She tugged him to the dance floor but he had followed willing only if it meant dragging his feet along the way. Once she settled on a spot she soon was looking at the other ladies to mimic what they were doing and he followed suit. It felt very weird and unnatural to be dancing this way. He was stiff just like she was as they attempted to move but soon they fell into their natural pose. She scooted in close which his arm that rested on her side slid around her waist as she lifted onto her tiptoes to whisper in his ear. ”Who cares,” he whispered back. ”If they have anything to say, they can take it up with me.” which even he wouldn’t really be listening unless they spoke ill about his little rabbit. He nuzzled along the side of her ear before lifting his head up and took one more glance around them before focusing in on her. He felt terribly nervous still especially now that they were more in the open even if they were amongst a sea of people.
Her question had him shaking his head no. ”I haven’t, then again most of these types of events aren’t open to the public neither.” Or he would sneak in and be a creature of havoc but she needn’t know about that. This is what had him nervous and why he was so insisting on not attending to this soiree. Something seemed suspicious about the whole thing but maybe it was his paranoia getting the better of him. He should enjoy his time with Larkin. She spoke about the fairy next and that would have had his ears pinned had he had the wolf ears on his head. No less he still bristled at the mention of the fairy. She was a big help, no doubt, but that didn’t make him a big fan of her. She could ---…. He had to shut his brain off. This was not the time for it and he didn’t want to shake up the wolf any more than he already was. For once he was letting the human remain control and not fight for power. This would have been a perfect spot for him to try and pull his crap too. So many lives.
He grinned softly and nodded his head. ”You put up with my bullshit all the time. I can at least take one night and reward you for it.” Larkin Silvaris

Ives was whisked away and Rook was left glowering at the guards that dare hold him back. He didn't want to get himself kicked out so he willed himself to calm. Crossing his arms and watching as some came up to take his companion's arm. Twirling him into a dance. It took only a second for Rook to recognize her, it was the Almoner. The woman who would have all the answers about what had transpired a few days ago and why Rook could remember practically nothing. What had she been after? What had been her reason for whatever she had done to them? Rook's lip wrinkled into a snarl but he could see Ives speaking with her. Hopefully he could get some answers. Making a scene would accomplish nothing other than to leave Ives alone with the crazy bitch. His foot tapped as he waited although unheard among the large crowd.
It felt like he waited hours before finally the lower class began to mingle with the nobles and royals, he took several long steps to come to Ives side. His blue eyes narrowing and following the retreating Almoner before returning to the Lore Keeper. Ives immediately told him that he had found out nothing and Rook nodded, letting his eyes study his face and stature for a moment as if checking for a weakness or ailment. "You are unhurt?" He ask carefully, obviously bothered by being unable to come to his aide. When the arm was offered Rook felt a bit of his worry fall away only to be replaced with something else.
"Are you sure about this, Ives? Arriving with me is one thing...dancing another." Of course the rumors had been flying arond them for a couple months now. But a rumor was different than something verified. Rook didn't take his arm but rather waited for him to be certain of his decision. This wasn't just something such as Ives revealing that he had a relationship with a man but it was 'Rook'. The drunkard hot headed soldier with more baggage than anyone should be allowed. "I wouldn't blame you." He said softly, his blue eyes flitting briefly to Ea. Yet another transgression that Ives wasn't even honestly aware of.

Larkin's soft swaying could hardly be called dancing but she was enjoying it all the same. His soft nuzzle against her cheek made her skin tingle and her eyes briefly close with contentment. Anyone who was around Larkin very long would quickly learn that the little hybrid thrived on contact even if it wasn't the sexual sort. There was a calming reassurance to it and most times she didn't even realize that she was pushing for it. She shook her head when Felix said he put up with her. "You put up with me all the time too, what reward do you ever get?" She blushed when a less than ladylike thought entered her mind but chose not to voice it.
"Do you think we should say hello?" Larkin said, again referring to Eriu. It seemed impolite to not say hello to the woman who had opened her home up to her. But Larkin was...Larkin and soon enough her thoughts drifted away from the pretty fae and onto something else. Some elven fellow...wait...was that Ives? He was whisking a little white haired woman around, twirling her and dipping her like a skilled dancer. She hadn't even known Ives could dance. She hadn't even spoken to Ives since she was kidnapped...would he be angry with her? She had paused in her dancing, a worried expression coming to her face. He must think she had abandoned him, just like her brother.
"Felix..." She said softly, her arms still linked around him although her grip had loosened as her scattered mind focused on the people around her. What if her brother was here? What if he saw her? Would he...take her away? "We should go." She bit down on her lip and dropped her hands so that one would link with his. "There are people here that know me, I don't...I don't want to be taken away." She had wanted it for so long, her freedom, to go back to her old life. But slowly Felix had become more important than what she did have and she wasn't willing to let him go. She gripped his hand tightly, as much as she was enjoying herself. Enjoying dancing...it wasn't worth losing him. She dipped her head and used him a shield against a few familiar faces, her wide blue eyes half-lidded with concern and disappointment.

Post by Oceane on Sept 19, 2017 8:28:39 GMT
Oceane had decided to attend the ball. It was very odd, and perhaps an even more odd decision that she had actually suggested. Still, nevertheless she was here, found herself in this, attire of clothing that one would hardly imagine her to be in. Well it was a long story. She had decided to come to the very ball when the crew was notified about the occasion, receiving an invitation on perhaps one of the ships that they pillaged. With the scroll in their hands and reading allowed what they had said, most entirely dismissed the idea. Well, not Oceane. She had desired to go, only in hopes that they could find their previous captain. The current Captain, Captain Avander, eventually agreed to go. The pirate ship made its port alongside the shores of Emberi, the others were free to do as they pleased or even to come along with her and the captain. Though many took this opportunity to get themselves drunk at a local tavern. Seemed much like the crew. Indeed, they were not the most deadliest pirates that sailed the seas, however they managed somehow. Oceane had thought she had chosen fine clothing for this event. She chose one of her finest black coats, that went all the way down to the floor, the nicest boots, gloves, pants, and shirt that she could find. Not to mention the nicest hat that she could find. Coming to the ball dressed in such attire, she thought that she had done the finest job in making herself look presentable. Of course some of the clothing had been pillaged, though some had been what she acquired as a pirate over the last few years. They were very expensive, costing much coin though the ones that were taken she assumed must have been far more valuable. The hat, the dark brown material pointed over her head, was something that had found drifting in the ocean's water one day. She decided to keep it, however she had hardly worn it. This is one of the many occasions that she had decided to.
Marching up toward the castle, the woman looked left to right, seeing no sign of the captain. Well, that was because they had decided to arrive there at different times. He claimed that he had business to take care of before his arrival, which she found plausible, although she didn't know what it was. Some sort of personal business no doubt, she assumed. She continued her way up toward where the ballroom was, however she was not permitted entry. Questioning her concerns as to why, she was then brought to a seamstress, who apparently loved the way she looked. Taking off her old clothing and replacing it with the new, the seamstress had redressed Oceane in a manner far beyond her expectations. Well, her attire wasn't quite as flashy as most of the other dresses and suits she supposed, but the seamstress argued that a woman had no right wearing pants to such a ball. Oceane didn't like what the woman then stuffed her into, doing her hair up all fancy and whatnot all the while saying how much more gorgeous she looked. Looking into the mirror she had saw had been put into a dark blue gown, one that puffed out from her hips and all the way down to the floor, adorned in all sorts of flower and leaf patterns. Her hair had been done up in a do that was surrounded by flowers of all sorts, a few feathers and a couple of jewels. She didn't know what to say, and she continued to stare at herself in the mirror with widened blue eyes. The seamstress then placed a necklace around her, followed by more and more of them. The older woman then looked at her in the mirror, her head alongside hers as her arms wrapped around her shoulders. "There. Isn't it wonderful?" she asked. Oceane just looked at her confused. The dress was nice, but, she liked her original attire much better. Then the seamstress sent her off into the ballroom, without even a protest for her old clothes back. However she then heard from the others that they could retrieve their clothing back once the night was done, so she would make sure to retrieve them once all of this was over.
Moving to the front again, she waited for the captain. There was no sign of him nor the previous captain as she continued to wait, her arms crossed over her chest as her eyes glanced around. Then Avander did arrive, and seeing that he came greatly pleased her. None of the others were going to be in attendance, she thought, so seeing him was like a bliss within the midst of a storm. She looked at him as he arrived, seeing him in a fancier attire than she ever saw the pirate captain in. There was a woman by his wide, not an unusual sight. "Thank you," she replied to his compliment. "You as well." Her attention then turned to the other lady, that stood at his side. His younger sister? Well, Avander never talked much about his family with his crew, and that was quite understandable. Though, she didn't know if she knew about him being a captain or not, so Oceane decided to play it carefully.
"Pleased to meet you Sefira," she greeted. "I am Oceane, a fellow worker of your brother," she decided to say, her eyes averting to him. She then began to face toward the long hall, head turned over her shoulder back to them. "Shall we go then?" she asked.

He continued to look at the prince when he spoke, arms still crossed over his chest but his expression seemed rather relaxed. When Luhan poked him he did nothing but blink, and his next following words he thought about. A masquerade ball being risky to put on? Hmm, maybe. Though he wasn't sure what a ball over there would even look like, so he didn't say anything, for he could not judge how his father would even host one. But, they were at a ball now, so they may as well enjoy it while they're there. His mouth dropped open slightly when he complimented him. Ladon returned a smile. "You look very handsome yourself," he said, and indeed it was true. Although no matter what Luhan wore he would always be handsome in his eyes. Then, as he looked over toward the dancing crowd Ladon's eyes followed over there as well, gazing upon the twirling dresses along with the spinning suits. His gaze returned to him, watching him as he spoke. Not necessarily, he was about to answer about whether or not he liked to dance, but then Luhan spoke again. His gaze peered out toward the dance floor once more, then returned to the face of the prince. He knew that he was shy, as he always was, however it seemed that he wished to dance, or at least to him. Giving in, Ladon rolled his eyes playfully, taking a few steps toward the floor as he reached for his wrist, turning to look at him over his shoulder.
"Well, we can try, since we are here," he reasoned. The dragon didn't know how to dance either, but perhaps they would fit in more if they did dance. Taking another look he could see many couples who were... not the greatest, at dancing. If the prince followed him onto the dance floor he would then hold both of his hands, and begin to move his body slowly to the sound of the music. "I think it goes like this," he said, trying to intimidate how the others were dancing. He had nearly forgot the other reason why he was there now, as his focus was entirely on the prince. No one would see them together, for they were lost and unrecognized within the busy crowd. It was better this way.

Luhan felt his cheeks grow warmer at Ladon's words, causing him to shyly avert his gaze. He tried his best to suppress a shy smile but he failed, feeling as if butterflies inhabited his stomach. "Thank you. Although, you always look attractive no matter what you're wearing." A gentle smile formed over his lips, only to widen his eyes in surprise as he watched the other simply walk towards the dance floor. "Oh-- I--" He bit his lip nervously for a moment, gracefully holding onto Ladon's hand and following after him. He went along with the male's lead and after couple moments, he couldn't help but stifle a small laugh as they danced. He felt more relaxed now, he didn't know what he was so nervous about earlier. He only hoped that Ladon was having fun too.
He shyly gazed up to him, his own ears perked up as he swayed his tail in content. There was this.. fuzzy feeling in his chest, but he then remembered that both of them were dancing among a lot of people. Surely, the prince was taught about ballroom dancing, around the time of that masquerade ball he mentioned earlier.. He simply forgot about those dance lessons throughout time. Holding on to Ladon's hand he slowly moved it to rest it along his own waist, Luhan's hand then resting on the male's shoulder. He leaned forward to nuzzle his nose against the male's jawline before pulling back, containing himself from any further actions. "You're really good at dancing after all. Did you secretly prepare for the ball without me?" He joked playfully, before examining his surroundings. "This is really nice.." He hummed in delight as they continued to dance together along to the music, wishing that both of them would have fun like this more often.

As the melody played he continued to sway back and forth slowly. He just moved with the music, getting lost in the crowd and the whole idea. Even forgetting himself that he was a dragon for a second, he really believed that this was his true self dancing with his loved one amongst all these people. His eyes closed when the prince had gotten closer, and he placed a firm hand around his waist, lost in the moment. But then Luhan moved away, and at that was when Ladon opened his eyes. Though he continued to hold his hands, dancing all the same. "No-" I'm just doing what everyone else is, he was going to say. However he didn't want to ruin the moment, and instead he just continued, swaying his movement back and forth as he prince spoke. "Yeah," he agreed. He then came closer, closing his eyes once more as he imagined them alone, dancing to music within the halls of a large palace. The two looked quite the opposite of each other indeed, their colors in strong contrast of black and white. Light and darkness perhaps. That's what Ladon began to think about further, losing himself as he danced, unconsciously pulling the prince close to his chest. He then leaned his chin next to his head, just wishing, hoping, that this could last.
But he was a dragon. A guard. The other was a prince. A werebeast. It was bound to end eventually.
Though he did not wish to think of that, but even still those thoughts crept into his mind. How could they be together? His eyes then opened, glancing around at the others who danced. Was there someone here who could help them? Was there a kingdom that they could live together in without worrying about his father? His mind continued to ponder, however he then realized that it may be impossible to leave the clan in the first place. No matter what they did, his father would always search for his son, he presumed. Then if they found them together then Ladon would definitely lose his position, or worse. Such capital punishment aside, perhaps it was a risk that he was willing to take. If only there was a way. A way for them to dance like this again.
Leaning closer he then pulled him even closer to himself, whispering in his ear. "Let us lose ourselves in this night then, for it may be our only dance," he then said, then suddenly he whisked the prince around in a circle, twirling him as if he were a woman dancing with a man. A smile was present on his face, something so rare that night indeed.

Before Eriu could reply, the man was lost into the crowd, and she was unable to find him again. She had reached out a hand in the direction where he had gone to bring him back, but he disappeared into the midst of the ball. The fae then decided to search around more, to see if she would encounter anyone else she knew. But as the music continued to play, she bobbed up and down dancing all in her lonesome, however happy despite it. Her head gazed around at all the other people here. There were so many of them! She lost herself into the very crowd as well, eyes dazzled by all the fabulous wear. She bumped into a few dancing couples, then made her way between the arms of a few, which made them angry for some reason. She then found herself headed toward the aisle where the entrance was, taking a break from all those many people in the center. Though the bubbly fae still looked around, the pink hem of her dress twirling a little. It was then she saw a familiar face come down the hallway, accompanied by two women at his side. Rushing up to him when he arrived to the ballroom, Eriu nearly jumped into his face.
"Avander!" she greeted joyfully. "It is good to see you here!" Her wings fluttered behind her excitedly, however she did not lift off the ground. She then turned to the girls at his side. Both of them looked really nice! "You two are gorgeous!" she smiled widely. "I really love both of your dresses!" She took another glance at their clothing. Indeed they were extremely fancy, probably even nicer than what Eriu was wearing. They were both dressed in darker colors, and she liked the sparkles on one but also really liked the flowers on the other. The blonde girl just gave a curt smile as a greeting and a thanks. Eriu then turned to face Avander again. "Did you guys just arrive here at the ball? What do you guys think of it so far?" she said all too quickly. She looked giddy and excited, almost jumping up and down since she was having so much fun here. She then realized they just came, didn't they?
"Aw! You guys missed the best part!" she suddenly frowned, which looked comical in a way as she then slumped. Just as fast as it arrived it was gone and she was back to her cheery self. "You guys just missed the first dance. Everyone was dancing so well though! You guys should have seen the princess dance with that other guy!" she then went on and on about how the ball was. Then, from the corner of her eye, behind the trio, she thought she caught a familiar sight. Long blonde hair, those big blue eyes, and a familiar blonde man... was that Larkin and Felix? Immediately, her face then lost all frivolity, pausing speaking as her head turned in that direction. Was that really them? She had to make sure and she then turned up to the man before her, speaking to him quickly. "I think I see someone I know. Oh, you can come with me," she then offered. If he wished to come with her that was. Though then she took off toward the two. She thought she had seen their faces within the crowd here somewhere. She then moved quickly and soon enough was standing beside them. "Larkin, Felix," she said, trying to get their attention. Were they really away from those bad guys? Were they ok? Those bad guys weren't going to be here, right?

Luhan began to grow curious after Ladon's short responses, tilting his head to the side. Perhaps his mind was preoccupied with something - After all, it's been a while since they had a proper conversation together, without being involved in some sort of adventure. He really missed their cuddling and kissing sessions.. He gazed up to the male as they danced, noticing how his eyes fluttered closed. He looked so peaceful, deep in thought. Although if he had to take a guess, Ladon's mind was anything but peaceful at the moment, he was once again worried about their future. Once their heads pressed closer together he felt his own eyelids slowly drop shut, leaning to the gentle touch and Ladon's warm embrace. After a moment or two he felt the male moving about and looking off to he distance, glancing up to him once more. "Hey, let me be the pessimist here, hm? Do not worry so much. Everything is going to be okay.. For now let's enjoy the moment." He placed a tender kiss on his cheek and gave him a small smile, listening to his response afterwards; he flushed at their close contact, only to blink in slight confusion.
Last dance? "It doesn't have to be our last dance, we can dance anywhere as long as there's m-- Oh!" His sentence was cut off as he was suddenly whisked away, emitting a soft sound in surprise. He then found himself back into Ladon's arms, laughing softly. Well, that took him by surprise. "Ah, I know this song!" He exclaimed, feeling rather proud as he quietly hummed along to the notes, eyes locking with the dragon's. Surely, it was the first time he saw him so carefree, and smiling brightly - it made that fuzzy feeling return to his chest once again. He couldn't help but return the smile, soon forgetting about the people around them as he danced in a more relaxed yet playful manner. He twirled himself once more, bumping into Ladon's chest afterwards. "Oh, hello there~" A sheepish grin formed onto his lips, taking hold of the other's hands as he childishly swayed their bodies from side to side, at the same time being careful as to not to bump to other people.

He snorted at her when she said he was too young. ”I am not. I am just right.” He was a proud wolf of who he was, where he came from, and what heritage he had. There was no doubt about that. Even if his brothers were a little rougher on him. Even so he learned a lot from his mother when the boys bullied him out of a lot of the male social gatherings. He learned what he needed to know and how to survive despite not having a positive male role in his life. It was okay though he was pretty sure he was doing a hell of a lot better than his brothers and possibly evens his father. Despite his mother being looked down upon for being a woman she had one hell of a head on her shoulders and Romeo couldn’t thank her enough for the time she put in. He supposed that was where his choice of company had stemmed from. Men just rubbed him the wrong way in general. A bunch of them were just bullies… but the ladies they had a welcoming yet primitive way of thinking and doing and he appreciated it. ”Coming from a world I did. You would be grumpy too.” he stated in a matter of fact tone. His dark eyes were cooled as he gazed at her this time. He didn’t come from a world of physical abuse it was more so mental. Mental from being the runt of the group and not like his bulky stronger brothers.
But look where it got them now.
She said there was still a million things she didn’t know about him and he laughed. ”Rome wasn’t built in a day.” he said off handedly. ”Besides I think if you learned too much about me in one sitting you would get bored of me or find that perhaps I am not worth your time.” that was probably the hardest truth he wasn’t quite ready to face yet. What if she did decide he wasn’t worth her time? He had fallen in so far as it were now anyways… there was no backing out. Instead of him hooking the fish… the fish hooked the wolf. He rolled his eyes at her when the mention of his drawings came about. ”I won’t admit a thing.” he said stubbornly. ”My lips are sealed. Just like those drawings won’t see the light of another day.” He pinched her side playfully as he grinned at her. The only other person who saw them was Branwen and even she teased him about them. ‘A mermaid on the brain’ was what she called it. ”Really think about what? I don’t think about it often. Don’t really have to.” Why would he? He sees the real thing quite a bit why would he have to worry about a dream version of her? Or was she talking about the whole aspect of him actually dreaming about a real person? ”Its…. Odd.” was all he could say. ”But you know ever since I actually met you haven’t had them anymore.” and now that he says that watch him dream about her tonight. Would be his luck.
Noelle was attempting a very offended act as he called her a premadonna. He was pretty sure he was right on the nose. ”Because then our relationship would be too normal and I don’t know about you but I would rather not be mainstream.” He purred. He was swaying in the dance with her now. Leading her around with ease. ”Im not a very mainstream sort of guy.” He said offhandedly. Which he wasn’t. Her perhaps went against the norm of his kind and though he had attempted to get in with a pack he had quickly backed out last second.
He tsked her about the spinning and she said that she couldn’t help it. Her next statement of course got him arching a brow. ”Im not sure I would enjoy being knocked into.” Though he knew what she meant. ”Im giving you a hard time.” His features relaxed. Giving a shrug of his shoulder he spoke once more. ”To be honest I figured you would have been going anyways and I thought to myself maybe I could make it in if I had a pretty little princess on my arm.” once more he was teasingly jabbing at her. ”And look where we are. I got in.” His arm crept a little lower though he of course was doing this subtly to not bring full on notice to them. He then spun her out and then pulled her back in his nose lingered close to hers, eyes on her lips for a moment. ”How does all of that make you feel?” Noelle Luna

When she finally rode up to the city, was when the mage first began to doubt her decision in coming to the ball. She had never been much of a party person, why was this one so different? Firmly, she reminded herself that her recent successes deserved some celebration, and despite nobody else knowing of them yet, she was celebrating. Dancing, a bit of drinking, food... and the amusement of watching the tense peace between races all gather into one room. How... quaint. Her eyes rolled, even as her mount shifted uneasily as he carried her into the city and up to the castle. Her cloak was a dark shadow billowing behind her as she pushed him faster. She was already fashionably late.. perhaps even more than fashionably. Not that it truly mattered. She doubted that the King expected everyone to arrive, truly. In fact, he probably preferred that many of them didn't arrive at all.
There would be people who probably didn't wish her there. A short chuckle came from her. She would stay for a while just to spite them.
At long last she stood before the entrance of the ballroom. There was a servant there, a herald that stood ready to announce people as they entered, but she waved him off, glowering fiercely when he stepped forward anyway. Her voice held a chill to it that made him pause. "I require no announcement." She turned to look at the men who stood at attention guarding the door. "Open the door." As they began to swing the doors fully open to allow her to pass into the ballroom, shadows slipped from her like smoke, darkening the doorway. They slid along the ground, dripping down the staircase much in the manner that a low fog would, and she came to a pause at the height of the stairs, looking like the center of a fire-blast.
Her skin, so dark that it was almost shadow it self, was sharply contrasted by the silver of the dress she wore, and accented by the charcoal lines of it. To the normal eye, she looked as though she were wearing a gown that held pieces of the sky, draping off of her shoulders and slipping in a waterfall of silk and satin down her legs. The neckline slid from off her shoulders and into the gentle curve of a sweetheart, showing a hint of bosom. A decorative, black corset tucked her waist in slightly, accented with silver charms of the moon and stars hanging from it. And the skirt showed a hint of her legs, as if the material were gossamer thin. Three thin braids hung down to frame her face, and the rest were pulled back into a high pony tail, draping down. At the end of each braid was three beads, made of all colors. Everything about her was a tribute to the goddess of the Night, of mischief, of shadows. Simultaneously it followed the rules of modesty, and yet teased with the hints that there were so much more. The doors began to close behind her, and she flicked her fingers gently, shoving them closed faster with an audible sound that would draw attention towards the entrance. A small smile curving her lips as she looked down upon the ballroom floor, and upon the colorful gowns and outfits of those below. There was something haughty in her eyes, something dangerous in her smile. But most recognizable of all, were the silver spikes that cut through the darkness of her skin, forming around her eye. The blatant mark that showed her to be a mage.
Shadows faded slightly, coming to simply cling to her, along her feet and skirts, as she stepped toward the short stairway that would lead down to the dance floor. Already her eyes darted from face to face, looking for those she recognized, and smirking slightly.

"Most likely, princess, I spend time in much worse places than you're inclined to go." The words teased, almost mocked but not with any malice. He quite liked this pretty young woman- for royalty, she seemed like a treat. Still, this royal family was the same one he had lived under as a child, whose poorest children were left to be victims. He held them no grudge. No one could tend to all of them. But it was quaint that she visited the markets to visit the common folk. His eyes briefly wandered to the rest of the ball, curious, taking in the sights of the glamorously dressed nobility. When she spoke of Arlyn he only laughed, not quite rolling his eyes.
"Master Arlyn is a kind man and a good mage, even if we don't always see eye to eye. Fire and water, you know?" He chuckled and shook his head. He could hear the song beginning to wind down and it was with some regret that he led their dance to the foot of the stairs so they could end it properly framed. His smile turned to a smirk when she spoke and he almost made a very inappropriate comment to make to royalty when the music ended and he flourished her a bow. "Perhaps later tonight my thoughts will turn in that direction, Princess Rhiannon. For now, I am chaste as a nun."
The next dance was starting and though he considered offering to partner her again, the crowd was suddenly surging with a mingling of both common folk and nobility. While the heat and closeness of the crowd were welcome to the heat-hungry mage, he decided that a little space to observe would be useful. With another, shallower bow he let the crowd sweep him away, pausing by a servant briefly. The only things that seemed to be out in abundance was alcohol but at his request he was brought a flute full of nothing stronger than water. Feeling appropriate for the situation, he floated at the edge of the dancers, slowly navigating the perimeter of the room. He thought he spotted a familiar elven face among the dancers but just as he thought to approach (it had been fun, after all), he lost sight of Rook among the masses. Shaking his head, he eased out on one of the balconies.
A quick glance froze him in place as his gaze settled on the dark figure perched on one of the rails, looking very sharp in a tall dark and handsome sort of way. One of Ea's hands lifted to the piece of amber that nestled against the silk on his chest, the warm stone rolling easily under the touch of his fingers. "Carlisle." The name was practically a purr, pleasure suffusing each syllable. "I didn't think this was the sort of affair that would have interested you. Perhaps Erin demanded you take a night of respite after all you do to care for her?"
He moved closer, trailing his hand along the rail, stopping not quite close enough to be touching.

He admired her composure. Though he was not without his own defense mechanisms, his were different from hers. She could simply show nothing- it wasn't a skill he had ever possessed. He could turn aside a question or verbal attack with his tongue but to hide his emotion he could only throw humor in the eyes of those who would exploit it like sand in the eyes of an attacker. Despite the scars she bore, it was easy to see why some of the younger members of the pack seemed to think she was invincible. He could believe it, if he let himself be swayed by fantasy for a moment.
The swan tried to follow her gaze to the man she mentioned but he could find no certainty in the faces of the people around him. He shook his head. "I have fought Immortals in the past, but never in battle or casually have I met the commander of their army." Though curious he did not press. He was rather enjoying the whole event and he thought perhaps it would be safer to let her only say what she wanted to say on the matter of foreign powers rather than pry. If that meant his voice was unusually mild to match hers, then so be it. Despite his bet, he was quite hoping that it was a good night and they could avoid any outbursts.
Her request, however, caught him off guard. Warin hesitated a hair too long and even though he was not much of a dancer he could tell that they were off from the music. He wasn't even sure if the music had changed- his thoughts were on too many things, from the Immortal Commander to the steps. Now he concentrated on correcting the timing of their steps, only meeting her eyes again once he had it worked out. "Certainly fair." He voice was light, as thought it meant nothing. And it shouldn't mean anything. His relationship with the glass he'd been trying to work had become strangely important, and was tangled with more emotions than he'd originally realized. He should have known it. Still, he didn't really have an objection to her request. It was only unexpected.
"Now, if I start the fight does it still count?" He grinned, trying to draw attention from his fumble.

Djinn had little interest in a ball, especially one held in the Emberi kingdom. He had a bit of a ...name for himself in Cendra. Hopefully none of the guards that had been pulled in to keep the peace would recognize him. He was here to gather coin from the overflowing pockets of nobles who were just dying to flaunt their wealth. Royals would be around as well but they were more dangerous game than he cared to hunt on this night. He was dressed in white and gold with his dark brown hair slicked back against his head. His pale blue eyes glimmered with mischief as he stood at the top of the stairs and off to the side a bit just peering down at the dancers.
It was by chance that a beautiful dark skinned woman would enter then, and make quite the impact. He smirked at the theatrics then looked down to see several curious eyes turning to watch her. He laughed softly to himself and turned back to the beautiful woman who....had a silver mages mark? No...No it couldn't be the mage from the woods? Could it? There was something familiar about those dark eyes, her presence. It wasn't as if many mages carried the same mark. Well, she certainly cleaned up nicely. Djinn smirked and decided to swoop in given that there wasn't a companion on her arm.
With all the fluidity of a cat he slipped to her side and looped his arm around her own, his free hand moving to pat her hand in an almost reassuring way. It was then though that his fingers would feel a tingle, a slight jolt that made his eyes slip to her in a sideways glance. Little minx was worked up apparently. But she did live in a swamp...something like this might be out of the norm for her. Hell...it was out of the norm for most of them.
"You look stunning." He said in a most proper way that was unfitting for him. But then following those words he would lean in to whisper in her ear. "But who is guarding the kelpies?"
Djinn's clothing although the cover is much longer and coat like.

Post by Carlisle Hilthrom on Sept 20, 2017 20:29:09 GMT
Carlisle was still debating and early escape when the soft utterance of his name startled him and made him turn to see Ea. He didn’t speak at first but dipped his head and rubbed his neck, he felt like he was drowning. It was ridiculous for a commoner to pine after someone who danced with princesses. Someone who commanded a room and drew everyones eye. Carlisle was indeed the opposite. The soft shadow in the back that went unnoticed, the commoner who couldn’t even afford his own fancy clothing for such an event. Tonight Ea was dressed in perhaps the most exquisite get up Carlsile had ever seen him in although he nearly always wore a sign of his wealth. Something he could understand after hearing about his youth.
”Ea.” He eventually returned as the mage drew nearer. His dark eyes still down cast and legs still crossed comfortably where he sat even if a tension had come to his body. A rigidity not there before. He looked up at Ea’s words and smiled. ”It isn’t. My mother has Erin tonight…I think they are both enjoying some bonding time.” He didn’t say the reason he had been pushed to come here although it did occur to him. The whole, my mother wants me to find someone to court ideal wasn’t the best talk for dimly lit balconies outside of bustling parties.
He watched as Ea’s hand slid over the railing until he stopped at his side. Nearly touching. Nearly. He could recall that night, that kiss that had made his knees weak and his inhibitions vanish. But reality had pulled them back all too quickly. And now it stopped him from doing what he wanted, what he desired. Ea wasn’t just someone from Cendra. A commoner like himself. He was someone of title and note. Someone who shouldn’t be wasting his time with a man like Carlisle.
”You are quite the dancer.” He found himself saying. His dark eyes moving away from Ea and back at the entryway that would open to the ballroom. Hopefully he hadn’t noticed his staring, he couldn’t bear it. ”The princess is also light on her feet but...I think you stole the show.” A twitch of a smile would quirk his lip upward. ”You should be inside dancing, Ea. Not out here with someone like myself.” A commoner. Someone below your station. Someone with nothing to offer. But he didn’t say any of those things. Instead he looked down at his lap, his grip on the railing tightening slightly. He wasn’t trying to push him away exactly, but it would be easier for his crush to die now instead of being allowed to flourish. This attraction that only seemed to grow.
But by increments his fingers would loosen and creep over so that a couple of them rest on Ea’s hand. The heated skin familiar and at the same time making his heart flutter with excitement. This feeling couldn’t be healthy.
