Appearance:
Oceane almost always wears a solemn expression on her face. Often aloof, the pale woman stands often in the distance, watching over the situations that unfold. She appears to be calm in most events, even if they are dangerous ones. She rarely smiles but when she does it is usually in the company of ones she cares about or out of politeness. She has long blonde hair wavy like the ocean itself, and appears to be lighter than usual due to many years she lived. Her appearance is quite youthful despite her age. She normally wears typical pirate or sailor attire, sometimes but often not wearing a matching brown hat. Her tail is a pearly white with a light blue shimmer, and the ends of the fin are tattered.

Personality:
Extremely mellowed out, Oceane is a calm person. She is quiet and diligent, contentedly swabbing the decks. Even though she might seem cold and distant on the outside, she really does care for others. This is done mostly through action and does not speak of it. As a pirate, she never kills anyone. If a crewmember or another person tries anything on her, she just might trip them overboard with her mop, but that’s about it. She still has combat knowledge and prowess, but does not prefer to show it. Hardly anyone knows that she is a merfolk, as she pretends to be a human. But overall she is extremely loyal, to her captain, her ship, and her friends. Though sometimes she can be a little mischievous, pulling some small pranks or saying witty remarks. Sometimes on land she will go out in search for the previous captain. Secretly she is still very loyal and dedicated to the protection of the Crown of the Merfolk and the kingdom, and mostly to everyone in general.

History:
When Oceane was first found, it was from the darkest depths of the deep sea. Black. That was her first memory. Just the never-ending darkness. When she was found, it was assumed that her family had committed suicide together, for what other purpose would she have all the way down there? Or at least they tried to, as the child seemingly survived unscathed. This is what she is told and believes to be, as she has no other recollection of a real family. Her name, simple and plain, was given to her. Oceane.

[break]
She was found by a group of nomads, travelers that ventured by caravan. They were making their way to the kingdom. It was a pleasant life, and they made a decent living, selling their trades at nearby stops and delivering messages here and there. She was given some work to do as well, running tasks and such. But it was pleasant. Soon, her true purpose was revealed. The caravan had found her so that they could sell her to prostitution. Well, they did so once they reached the city. But as a child, she was still happy, as she did not have to do any work just yet and she did not realize what that had entailed. As she was being sold, a woman that stood out from the crowd offered a high price for the girl. Long blonde hair, and donned in a brown cloak, the woman soon took it off, revealing the exquisite armor that lay underneath. It turned out that she was apart of the guard, not only that, but Captain of the Guard, and arrested the ones who participated in these dealings outside the law.
[break]
[break]
The woman took care of the girl, and brought her to the guard where she was to be apart of. For the first time in her life, Oceane had found a purpose. To protect the kingdom, to protect the king, she was told. She took this responsibility with great honor, and for a great many years, she showed exceptional loyalty to the kingdom and its crown. She grew older, but then somehow the company got promoted to the Royal Guard, from which they moved from protecting the streets to the palace itself. Oceane was ecstatic, and very pleased to serve the current King himself. They have done so for ages, continuing to protect the royalty and the palace. She had made it her life’s purpose. She had known no family, but now her kingdom was worth risking her life for. She had promised so. But one day, the Captain returned from speaking with the Commander, retrieving a special stone that had been found from the far reaches of the ocean. The Captain asked the guards to all touch the stone, for when they did so their physical prowess would be increased. But they had to keep this a secret, for they were granted special access to it in order to further protect the king and his household. Each one had placed their hand on the stone, absorbing its dark aura. When it was Oceane’s turn, she took a look at the ghastly thing. Where did it come from? It brought her mind back to the darkness of the deep sea. She refused. The Captain just nodded, and the process continued.
[break]
[break]
It was then Oceane began to question the guard. When she tried to know more about the stone, what it was supposed to do, how and why they needed it, she was responded with rebuttals from the Captain. But the Captain still treated her with respect. Oceane was the only one who refused to take the powers, but somehow that was kept a secret as well, as many thought that she had. Over the next course of the years that had past, the guards began to change. They were stronger. Much stronger than before. They became feared. They had begun to take some questionable orders without refusing. Killing those who disobeyed the king and nobles, to make sure that the peace would stay within the kingdom. But as Oceane also worked with them, she was not as strong as they. One day, she was called for by the Captain, and on her way to her office, she noticed something. A door left ajar, a gruesome stench coming from the other room. Peering in, she saw within the darkness, a royal guard killing one another. The other slid to the floor, among the bodies of the other dead bodies. Before the only one standing turned to see who was at the door, she quickly closed it. She than swam hurriedly to the Captain, begging for answers about what she had just seen. The Captain then revealed to her that it was what she was going to speak to her about, and said something along the lines of she never should have trusted the Commander, which Oceane did not understand. But then the Captain made haste, telling her about the dark secret that their company had held. All of this was planned, everyone in the guard currently were people that no one would care for, from the orphanages, slaves, prisoners of war, prostitutes, those that had no name in this world. They were planned to be tested with this stone and its magic, and so if there were to be repercussions, it would not matter. The Captain said she truly thought that it was for the benefit of the kingdom, and that the risk was worth taking, but the Commander had already knew of its effects. Oceane then questioned why he would do so if he knew they were going to die. The Captain responds that it was a sacrifice to make in order to further develop the magic. Right now, the Captain explained, the magic was already beginning to take its toll. It made them stronger but it had also corrupted them, turning them into mindless and hollow husks of what they once were. She too could feel it. The Captain then ordered Oceane to kill her. For the benefit of the kingdom. And she did so.
[break]
[break]
But someone saw. The door was left open, and someone saw Oceane pierce the Captain through the chest with the sword, her body falling to the floor as blood swirled in the water. She was seen as a traitor. But as the other guards came, the only few ones left, the ones that were now corrupted, the ones that were once people she called her friends and family. With her Captain’s sword, she fought. They were stronger than her, but she still had her mind in tact. She killed them all. She was seen as a merciless killer in the palace, but she escaped before more men could come. She killed the rest in her company.
[break]
[break]
She wandered the underwater realm, still within the kingdom but a shadow. She was still wanted for her crimes. Unfortunately, those who tried to snitch on her she also killed. It was the price for staying around. She wanted to know the whereabouts of the Commander. What was he planning? Did he know? She couldn’t really tell, but eventually she found out that he still resided within the Castle. The King apparently did not know about the Commander’s plans. The Commander went about as if nothing had happened. Something was not right. She vowed to kill him, even if it meant risking more in the process. One her way to the palace, she tried to reach him, killing many, but alas, he got away. Her reputation further spread as a murderer. Again, she had to escape.
[break]
[break]
But the kingdom was nowhere safe for her. Instead, she roamed the seas, killing bandits out of defense, further staining her Captain’s sword. She became known as the “Dark Wave,” leaving all in her path stained in dark blood as quick as a wave. Over time, she grew more experienced. More feared. Soon, she had nowhere to go. Everywhere she searched, there was nowhere for her to stay. Everyone feared her. So, she made her way to land.
[break]
[break]
It was there she had found her next purpose. A group that had devoted themselves to the gods, most notably the God of Water. She herself was very religious, and was also very devout to the God of Water, especially once after she was named the Dark Wave. Despite her name being known underwater, on the surface she was no one. She was free, but as a merfolk she did not belong on land. She also had nowhere to stay. Not while the war still raged on. But these mages did not stay in the college. She did not know why, but she did not question it. She got to know the leader very well, and he was just starting this group. He was the leader, and recruited more to join him. Their purpose was trying to get closer to the gods, to learn more about them. She thought it was a noble cause. So, she had sworn to protect him and the group, while they traveled and preached. It was the least she could do, as she had no other life than to defend. She became their guard, and soon the group began to grow, and so as its group of guards.
[break]
[break]
As she continued to defend the group from that point on, she did not really know what happened during the ceremonies. From the leader, he would only say that their attempts at learning more about the gods had failed. They had to continue on with their research. Soon, time after time, the followers disappeared but more came. The group always had a stable number. But their devotion to the gods was noble, this is what she believed. She did not notice the number of people stayed the same. But then, as a ceremony was taking place, there was an attack. The guards quickly took care of the ones who tried to attack them, but then noticed that they have come from not only the school of mages, but Cendra. Oceane went in to tell them what happened, but she only found dead bodies. Fresh ones, torn open, eyes widened. They were experimented on. The only one left in the room was the leader. Flashes of what happened with the Royal Guard flashed through her mind. She was determined to find out what actually happened and to kill him. He explained that this was the only way to get closer to the gods. It was the only way to learn more about them. She moved to kill him, but then, he trapped her in a dream. He was a powerful mage, one that had the ability to enter people’s dreams. But he would be in the dream too, and if he were to be killed in the dream, he would be killed in real life. Within the dream, she tried to kill him. It lasted for a very long time, as he was a difficult man to fight against. He tormented her about her past, showed her horrors upon the which she had never seen, revealed to her that he knew more about her than she knew. She had trusted him before, was loyal to him before, and when she had told him that she came from the deep sea, he was intrigued. It was the reason why he let her join. He was going to experiment on her sooner or later, as he believed that she might have a connection to the God of Water, despite her firm belief that it was her family trying to commit suicide. For a few more years, she still tried to kill him within the dream. It was like a maze, difficult to navigate and trapped within her own dreamscape that was now filled with horrors. He also tormented her about her loyalties, why she killed so many people. She tried not to give in. Eventually, she had done it. After a long fight, she killed him. This meant that she killed the leader of the cult in real life, too. But, as she then awoke from the dream, her sword was stained with blood. While she was within the dream, she had killed many. All the innocents for the experiments, and continued to guard the cult. She killed anyone who stood in their way. Was it really a dream of her fighting against him? Or was it a mental fight against his control over her actions in the real life? She would never know.
[break]
[break]
She cast her Captain’s sword into the sea, letting the blade fall into the depths. It was stained with blood that it did not deserve. She did not protect the kingdom. It was tainted with the blood of innocents that she had vowed to protect. Her Captain would have not been proud of her.
[break]
[break]
From then on, her reputation as the Dark Wave had spread even further. It now began to spread on land, despite the fact that the cult had disbanded after their leader’s death. But now, she felt anger. She felt angry at what she had done. She would let them know how horrible the Dark Wave could be. So, she began to attack pirates. Neither safe within the ocean nor the land, she would mercilessly kill those whom no one would care for. Those happened to be the pirates that roamed the seas, pillaging villages and attacking others with might. Luring them to their demise, Oceane continued to release her anger, slaughtering everyone on those ships she came across. It was also a way for her to make a living off of their cargo and resources. But as her reputation grew, she would also become their target and become hunted. Many have attacked her as well, over the course of the next few years, she became a target from those who wished for betrayal for limbs or ships that she took. The fight to survive became more brutal, and she often found herself alone in the empty ocean, trying to make a living. It was then when her anger had died down, and her bloodlust began to slowly cease.
[break]
[break]
After many, many years that past, Oceane tried looking for new jobs. Underneath the water, there was nothing to be found. She was still exiled from the kingdom, and could not go back there. She tried to become a merchant, but no one was interested in her wares. No one would hire her as a mercenary. She had abandoned the name of the Dark Wave, so she became a nobody. No one wanted to hire her, as she had no other skills beyond combat. She became a wanderer, roaming the long, open, empty sea that was ravaging with danger and loneliness.
[break]
[break]
Over the course of many more years, the name and legend of the Dark Wave had become lost in the past. But Oceane herself was still an exile of the kingdom of the merfolk, so she could not go back there. Land was also not an option, as kingdoms had become closely linked together, a thing of the alliance. After a long while of thinking, she decided there was only one place for her to go. She would have to become a pirate.
[break]
[break]
Once a pirate killer, now she would have to become one. She searched for a ship to join, and eventually found one. The captain of the ship let her aboard, and with that she began her new life. She was content with merely being a deck swab, a nobody. Over time, she became loyal to the ones that had taken her in. Her identity was kept secret, and at first she had tried to disguise herself as a human. Only a few have figured out about her real race. She was making a good living of being a pirate, as the crew was successful in its many attempts to claim the seas. She was satisfied with her current life, but then, one day, the captain vanished.
[break]
[break]
The new captain of the ship took over, and Oceane was just as loyal to him as she was to the previous one. She remained on the ship, but would sometimes go on land in search for the captain that had originally taken her in.
