Oceane somehow found herself in the Tropicala Huts. Wait here, the captain told her. And she did. Sitting patiently on one of the more obscured huts away from view, her legs dangled down into the air, right above the crystal clear water. Her head peered down, seeing the light blue and white shapes moving back and forth within, occasionally seeing some fish or a sting ray pass by. She was alone, behind her was a small pool and behind that led to the large room within the hut, made for lovers with one long bed in the middle. But, she wasn't here by ordinary means. She didn't pay to be here. Instead, this is one of the many adventures of a pirate. She was here illegally technically, as the ship just came by and dropped her off. This was all sort of some elaborate plan that Oceane was to take part of. Others as well. Apparently the plan was to spread the crew across these huts, and wait until the time was right to pillage the place. Maybe the captain thought to send them here to scout the place? But Oceane wasn't given such orders. Instead, she continued to look down at the sea below. She had never been to these huts before. It was quite a peaceful place. She guessed that they were newly founded, probably around the time the treaty was made. There was no way the merfolk would have made these commercially for other races to join in otherwise, she thought. The merfolk were profit-focused by nature, although she wasn't certain who owned these huts exactly. Maybe it was the opposite way around, maybe it was one of the other races that made profit off the merfolk, who knew.
The pirate continued to sit, feeling the warm tropical wind fly past her, lifting her long blonde hair slightly. The sun was high in the sky, and the seagulls cried as they flew overhead. Indeed, this was a nice place to be. She wore her usual attire, consisting of her sailor's clothing, white blouse, dark pants, tall brown boots. She sat still, looking into the air with sort of an interest in the environment around her. Although, she was merely waiting for the captain to return. Would they really be pillaging this place? She wondered how that would go.

Fish in a bowl
A good king is supposed to stay in his kingdom, but Earindil couldn't help himself. His wanderlust sometimes took hold of him and didn't let go until Dorsina was out of sight. Not much was happening in his kingdom, so he was sure he could slip away for a day or two, as long as he made it back soon.
He was aware of the huts those humans liked to use. He'd even seen them a few times, but he had never set foot in one of them. He wondered if they were popular. Maybe he could sneak into an uninhabited one, just to see what they were all about. Simple, he knew, but he liked simple. Well, when it came to the human world.
The Wavesplitter swam until the huts were in sight. The water was clear enough that he could see far into the distance. He broke the surface when he saw them, only his green eyes peering out of the water. From where he was, there didn't seem to be much activity there. He went back underwater and swam closer. Anyone above him could see where he was; this water was unlike the briny depths he'd grown up in. No, he went underwater because it made him feel better. He approached one of the huts and repeated his earlier action of looking above the peaceful water. No one about. He rose so that the water's surface tickled his jawline.
Movement in the corner of his eye made him dip down again. He turned toward it. Oh, it was only a girl. His eyes flicked to her feet, then up the line of her legs, all the way up to her face. She seemed innocent enough. Looks can be deceiving, he reminded himself, even as he swam in her direction.
"Here by yourself?" he asked sweetly, his mouth barely out of the water. He offered a smile without showing his teeth.

Oceane's blue eyes lifted, to see a man's head pop out from out of the water surprisingly. Though it wasn't surprising to find a merfolk in the ocean, one here was. As the water was mostly empty around these huts, she couldn't say for certain that merfolk would often swim around here. His question and his smile made her worry, hopefully he wasn't one of the merfolk that owned these huts. She expressed a bit of a frown, however she kept her cool for the most part, her face expressionless otherwise. She was here unauthorized, and if she was fortunate enough for him not to be the owner, then most likely he was just another man, or a merfolk, as he obviously was. Though as she looked at his face, he looked rather familiar... but she couldn't pinpoint who he was. But perhaps it was just coincidence, and she did not think of it any longer. Instead, the woman brought her legs up from their dangling position, hoping that he wouldn't cause a ruckus and splash them somehow. She then stood in her spot, looking down at him casually with a somewhat rather aloof glare.
"I am not," she lied. She didn't know how much longer the captain would be, but if he so wanted her to be here for a reason, then she shall wait. What to do if anyone were to interfere with the plan, she did not know, but she couldn't scare the man off. Instead, she would have to keep him busy, especially if he did in fact own these huts. She didn't know what to think if he were to kick her off. The captain would be incredibly disappointed. That and other than the fact that she would probably be kicked out into the ocean. Were any merfolk to recognize her tail, were they old or wise, would know of her true identity. That was something she doubted a young merfolk would know, but she would hope not to let that happen. If anything she lied to most of her own crew and many others that she was a human. And same to this man. "I have a few friends with me," she spoke. She had to continue to play the part that she did buy these huts with her own money, and, despite looking like a sailor, she had to make him assume that she had paid for it with her own money. As they were alone, she could only hope that maybe she would buy enough time until the captain put his plan into motion... whatever it was.
"They will be arriving here soon I think," she then said thoughtfully, rather a little bit more light-heartedly. "You're welcome to stay until they come back, they always like meeting new people." It was a lie of course. She didn't know when they would come back, or who. And if this was a bandit or a thief... were he to attack then there was a way she could run. If she could make it through the room and out the door there was a long bridge extending to the other huts. The other crew members were supposed to be spread apart on the other huts. But, she was the same as him if that were the case, she wasn't here by ordinary means either. She was trespassing just as much as he was, so there wasn't much she could do. The only thing she could do was wait and distract him until the Hollow Heart might run him over... if he didn't get up onto the deck that was. But she didn't know how long they would be, nor what this fellow wanted. Was he here just to check out the huts? She couldn't say she would be surprised. But this place looked excellent for thieving. The merfolk made a fortune off the rich other races coming here, and the solitude provided just as much opportunity for someone like a pirate to rob them. But if she didn't keep him talking... he might grow suspicious otherwise. Whoever he was.
"What brings you to these huts?" she then asked. Although it sounded like a casual question it was for her to gain information about him. "Here to see what they're like?"

He watched quietly as she pulled her feet away and raised an eyebrow. Curious. Nevertheless, he heard her reply and nodded. But he didn't see any friends. Something felt strange to him, but he couldn't say what. For a brief moment, panic struck him. What if she recognized him? He wasn't exactly supposed to be here. No, he told himself, A little human like this? She wouldn't know me. And if she did... what can she do to me? He was, after all, a king. He eyed her again, sizing her up, trying to act casual about it. He didn't know it, but he wasn't very good at acting casual.
"Me? Oh, just curious." he pushed himself up farther out of the water to rest his arms on the floor of the little deck. He rested his chin on his arms. It wasn't very comfortable; he had to keep treading water with his tail and hold himself up with his arms. Oh, but he was strong! He could do it. "And what about you? Coming to see the ocean without getting your eyes wet?"

A short answer from the man as he hopped onto the deck, making himself comfortable apparently as his arms rested on the deck. There was another pool that was near them, Oceane didn't care for it for she wasn't even going to use it. Heck this wasn't even her place to begin with. She would have offered for him to go in there, however she still remained wary due to the shortness of his answer and his redirection to her. Had he really come here just out of curiosity? It could have been an honest answer no doubt, however the merfolk did not often come here to visit these huts, or at least in her mind. Were it out of curiosity maybe he would have checked with those in charge, or maybe that wasn't the way he worked. But she couldn't think of it any longer with suspicion, instead she had to come up with a reason for being here. She carefully stepped back to ensure that he wouldn't try to drag her into the sea or splash her or anything like that. She was a 'human' after all. Her backstory came to her pretty well, for she had used it so many times. Even he had claimed her to be something other than merfolk, judging from his words. But it was the fact that what she was doing here, she needed to come up with something. Nevertheless, she spoke to him with partial truth.
"Yes, though I have been at the ocean before," she spoke to him with a partial smile. Any merfolk might have been offended by his words, though truly that is what some would feel for someone living in these huts. "My parents were fishermen, so fortunately I had the chance to live at sea during my youth." The words she spoke with coolness, drifting off her tongue with ease. "However I am here because my friends had invited me to come along. They paid for the rent and such, you see we are celebrating a birthday." Wow, such cleverness. Coming here for a birthday party? She surprised even herself. Though, it wasn't too doubtful. It wasn't unbelievable that one might come here to celebrate something as such. But going to the huts might have been considered too extravagant. Or maybe even unfitting due to the fact that they were designed for romantic interests.
Her eyes continued to inspect the ocean behind him occasionally, wondering when the captain was going to arrive. What sort of plan was he scheming? She was also waiting to hear or see some sort of signal. A blast of a cannon, a yell for pirates, anything. Though she also hoped that she was doing at least a decent job of keeping this man distracted. But she knew that her time might run out soon. She could lie all she could, but he may catch on. She also didn't know when her 'friends' were going to come back. Though if any of the crew members did arrive, maybe they could play along until it was time for the plan to ensue. Of course now he will probably ask her more questions. Who's birthday was it? Well, she could spin the lie... it would be the captain's of course. After all, he was the one that came up with the plan. How mischievous she was. But for now she had to judge what it was this man wanted. But maybe he was just harmless... but she couldn't tell.
"There's room over there, if you like," she said, gesturing to the pool beside them on the deck. Perhaps that would make him more comfortable. Maybe if she got caught she could spin the lie that he was here first... now that was something she was truly debating.

He listened with a smile on his face, partly interested and partly trying to employ some charm. "Fishermen, eh?" He briefly recalled a story he liked involving a fisher's daughter and a man from the sea, but since he had no interest in romance - least of all with this girl - he put it out of his mind. Instead, he looked over his shoulder at the sea surrounding them. She'd stepped away from him again. He wondered why. "I love the sea, don't you?" he asked. "Don't worry. I don't plan on drowning anyone today." He turned back to listen to what she was saying. A birthday party in the huts? He was skeptical in the first instant, but when he had a few seconds to consider it, he smiled again.
"That sounds fun. I'll leave when they get here. Wouldn't want to disturb anyone. " Even though he was surely disturbed by his presence. Well, he was already there, and he didn't want to leave just yet. Lucky for him, she offered the pool. He looked it over and finally nodded. "I think I can sit there for a while." he said. He moved toward it, finally settling when he was comfortable. It was better than hanging onto the hut, anyway.

She watched the man as he made his way over to the pool. Indeed whoever owned these huts or was going to stay here wasn't going to be happy with saltwater mixing into fresh as he entered. But in fact it might not even make much of a difference, however the small water trail he made was noticeable. But then again it wasn't odd for waves to splash against the deck. Not that Oceane would have to explain for it anyway. Despite his statement, she gestured him not to as she waved one hand slightly. "It is alright, they enjoy meeting new people," she reminded him. There would be no need for him to leave... yet anyway. When her friends arrive that would be when the plan was put into place, or so she thought. But as this was a good opportunity to wait, Oceane sat in one of the chairs next to the pool. Bundling her legs together she looked up at the sky, the clouds moving at a slow pace. Only time would tell when they would arrive. A moment of silence crossed between them, and her attention was still focused on the sky. She then brought it back down to face him once again, looking at him nearly from the corner of her eye.
"So what do you think?" she asked, partially out of curiosity. "Were these huts what you expected them to be?" She wondered if he knew anything about them before he arrived here, or perhaps he just happened to stumble upon them. Either way, it was a good way to make conversation. As Oceane tended to be quiet, she would let him to some of the speaking for her. But she, she had thought the huts would have been much larger. But to make them profitable seemed to be the merfolk's number one priority. Instead of making them good quality, they used the 'on the water' as an excuse to make them appear a luxury. Which was quite baffling in a way. Other than that they were quite nice. It was like homes for those who did not have a place to stay on land or under the sea. But the view itself was quite breathtaking. The weather wasn't so bad either. To her they weren't so bad... if only she had somewhere like this to stay when she had wandered alone.

He knew the difference between fresh and salt, and usually he preferred saltwater, but he couldn't deny that it was more comfortable in the pool. Although, he was beginning to doubt that her "friends" would be pleased to see him. However, he wasn't worried. If it came to it, he could defend himself. He let the silence linger between them, feeling no need to speak. Instead, he looked out over the ocean and thought about the freedom it offered. Her words brought him out of his reverie. "They're alright for human structures. I've seen bigger houses." He shrugged. "But they are on the sea, so I guess you can't expect them to be lavish." And, of course, there was the profit they made off them. Earindil loved a bit of shiny coin. At least he and his people had that in common, if nothing else. Still, if he had been fully in charge of their construction, he would have wanted them to be just a bit more comfortable.

"I see," she replied pensively, looking out into the distance. She was silent for another few moments, wondering just how much longer this was going to take. The captain typically didn't abandon his crew, would he? She assumed not, but as she knew he would be coming back soon, she had to entertain this... guest. So far he seemed decent enough, though one couldn't be too wary. Realizing that she had been quiet, she tried to come up with more to say. However there wasn't much to talk about as they had both been here by unordinary means. They were occupying a hut that most likely belonged to someone else, a guest that had yet to arrive. Though they would have to wait until that happened, if it would happen, but by then she couldn't keep up with her facade any longer. Her story of coming here with her friends would be found out. But she thought that there would still be time left before the pirates returned... hopefully. As she tried to think about what to discuss, only a few questions came to mind. Her head turned to him as it tilted slightly, looking at him curiously.
"I've been wondering... what do you do for a living?" she asked. Knowing full well that he could ask the question in turn, however she had her story all laid out. And her reasoning for asking him, well, she was a human after all. Supposedly. So her knowledge of the sea was supposed to be limited. But it couldn't hurt to ask, to try and find out what the Kingdom of the Merfolk was up to. Certainly he would know much more than she. And it wasn't often that she got to talk to merfolk. Not like this. In such a peaceful setting, she rarely found herself in ones like this as the pirates were typically busy sailing the seas or pillaging villages. In a way this was... nice, for a change. "I... haven't met many merfolk before," she said, her blue eyes averting to the side. "I wonder what you do in the sea." As if it were so big and amazing, so mysterious to a landlubber such as Oceane. To some, it might be a wonder what the merfolk do under the sea, as if they did things differently than on land. But she knew perfectly well what they did. As she herself had done so many things.

She was waiting for something. He ought to leave. But he didn't want to. Even though he was nervous about staying in the pool, he stayed put. Was it curiosity? Oh, probably. Unfortunately for him, this girl was also curious - or so it seemed. He wasn't entirely sure how to answer her question. "Me? Hmm..." For a second, there was an expression of panic on his face, followed by something best described as confusion. Then he smiled his most charming smile. "How to explain? The shortest way to say is that I work in Dorsina, in the court of the king." Well, that wasn't a lie, was it? No, it was the truth. He did work in the court of the king. He was the king. She didn't need to know that.
However, he was pleased to talk about the sea to a human. It was nice to talk to someone who didn't know what it was like beneath the waves. "I'd imagine it's a lot like any other kingdom. It's just underwater. There are guards for the king, soldiers, aristocrats, and subjects. At least, I think that's what it's like on land, too." He folded his arms in front of him and rested his chin on them again. He moved his bronze tail up and down slowly, in and out of the water. It seemed he was at least comfortable enough to be fidgeting absently.

She looked at him as he answered, an expression of perplexity washing across her face as it took him so long to explain what he did, like it was difficult for him to. Either it was complicated, or he was lying. Either way, he claimed to work within the court of Dorsina, something which caused her to be surprised. What if he really did work for the king? Just for how long? Did he know who she was? Did he know the commander from all those years ago...? All the thoughts of what he could be ran through her mind. Although her look was an expression of shock, she tried to play it off as awe. Perhaps he would think so considering she was human after all. But why was it that his face looked so familiar... was that why? Though she couldn't still pinpoint who he might be. If anything, majority of the people she knew had died. So what in the world could he possibly be? One of their offspring perhaps? "Ah, is that so?" she asked rather nervously, smiling to hide the fact as she looking over to the side. "So what is it that you do there?" she then asked, her eyes trailing over back to him. But then realizing that his situation seemed to be a bit... complicated, she decided to follow up with another question. "I mean... do you know the king?" she asked as if it was some awe-inspiring thing to know him. She herself didn't even know what the king looked like now. As far as she could remember, she had seen him when he was just a boy when she was a guard for the previous king, whom she swore her oath for defending to. Though she couldn't help but wonder why he was not stating his occupation directly, maybe he was just embarrassed, or even worse, what if he was sneaking away from his duties when he wasn't supposed to? Now that would be just shameful. But, more importantly, she wanted to know if the commander was still alive, still there in the castle. But she couldn't let it get out so quickly. Her head turned to face the ocean.
"Land is quite like that," she said, as if she had been there for her whole lifetime. "But I really haven't had the chance to meet a king or the nobility, though I am sure they are same as underwater like you said," she spoke, trailing off in false wonder. She then returned her gaze back to him. "I haven't seen many merfolk soldiers though, so sometimes I can't help but wonder, do they have a commander? What is he like? Your kind is fascinating, I'm sorry, I must be asking too many questions," she then said, her eyes filled with amazement however she then looked bashful as she looked away in embarrassment. Hopefully that would be enough to get him to answer, and truthfully since she was just a mere "human" after all.

As he looked at her, his brow began to furrow. Now, looking at her face seemed to remind him of someone. He'd been too self-absorbed to pay much attention before. His curiosity was starting to get the better of him. Ah, but she was asking if he knew the king. "Ehm... Yes, I know the king." Indeed, he knew him personally. "Why do you ask?"
It took a few seconds, but his eyes narrowed in suspicion. These questions of hers were getting stranger and stranger. "Of course there are soldiers. They usually stay in the city, depending on what their jobs are. And there's a commander, too, naturally. Why the interest in him?" It was a suspiciously specific person to ask about. Most humans or land creatures wanted to know more general things about life underwater. He studied her face, her large, clear blue eyes, her light complexion, and of course the yellow hair. "Wait a minute." He paused, and then an almost devilish smile spread across his face. "You're not what you say you are, are you?"He shifted position to get a better look at her. "Who are you, really? I'm terrible at remembering faces, but I swear I've seen you before. And not on land."
By that point, he was leaning forward, eager to hear what she would say. He'd even listen to a lie if it gave him a chance to figure it out.

Oh, so he knew the king. She was surprised, although it wasn't quite evident on her face. But, it was becoming rather concerning. How close was he to the king? Just how long was he in the court? If he had been there long, that meant that he might have... been there around the same time she had. Of course, she had to play it cool. As he spoke she looked at him in interest, awe in the fact that he was speaking about Dorsina even though she had come from there. However as he continued, her demeanor weakened, looking less and less interested as he spoke, and rather more worried. He asked her why she had asked about the king, then the commander. No particular reason, she was going to answer. But the information about the commander was vague. The real question was, was he the same one as all those years ago? Was that the one that sent her entire company to their cruel fates? The one that she had tried to kill all those years ago? Was he the same man? Though, she couldn't ask any more questions, but this man's position was also concerning. Just who was he in the court? Why was he dodging the topic of what he was... Just as about she was to answer that she was just merely curious about them, he spoke again. It were as if he came to a sudden realization about something. About her. He then gave a wicked smile, one that was most disconcerting. She was struck as he questioned what she was. At first she was going to try and refute his claim, however it was his next statement which sent everything downward in a spiral. This was a bad sign. If he recognized her face, that meant... No, hardly any merfolk were as old as she was. If he was, then she surely would have recognized him. Though the hint of familiarness was there... just she couldn't remember seeing his face, as much as she tried.
Which was bad, considering he thought he recognized hers.
She tried to hide the shock on her face, however it failed in the fact as she stared at him, eyes wide. Was he there in the castle that day? The day that she had tried to go and slay the commander? Did he truly know her as the Dark Wave? Or worse, perhaps see a drawing of her in a 'Wanted' sign. That would be even worse. She wanted to back away, she wanted to stand and move backwards away from him. It was nerve wrecking not knowing who he was, or his name for that matter. But, Oceane had to hold her ground. She was but a mere fisherman's daughter now. Nothing more. Internally, she had to believe her own lie or else it would fail. But even if he did know who she was, what was he going to do to her? Her name lost to the past, surely there wasn't a bounty on her head now. Or perhaps there was, or an old vengeance, hatred toward her fro killing someone he loved. That was very plausible, considering she had killed many. Had he been on her tail? Was he waiting just for the right moment for her to be alone, then mess with her here on these huts? Or maybe, maybe it was just a mistake. Maybe he couldn't identify her as well. Nervously, she glanced out into the ocean. And there it was. The Hollow Heart, on the horizon. A little, tiny ship it appeared to be, in the great distance. She could have sworn she saw the captain on the ship as well, piloting it by his lonesome. But the ship was headed directly toward them, but it would take a while before it reached there. Only so much longer she would have to wait. She then looked back toward the man, ready for anything but playing along with her original pretense.
She looked at him, appearing to be puzzled. "No," she said, tilting her head innocently as if he were mistaken. "Perhaps you are confusing me with someone." That could happen, or maybe even so in this situation. "I do not recognize you, so I believe we have not met before..." she trailed off, hoping that he wouldn't be digging in his memory for more information. Whoever he was, he hadn't stated what she was yet. Maybe he couldn't pinpoint who she was, like he him. Until he would say who she was, or where he knew her from, only then was the time she could defend. Otherwise, her story of being a mere human would have to continue. But maybe this was a good time for introductions. "I am Oceane," she introduced herself. "And you are...?" No doubt about it, maybe his name would reinforce her memory. She did not reach out to shake his hand, fearing what plot he might be scheming within that mind of his.

Her silence said a great deal. Yet she continued to deny knowing him. And, to his surprise, she finally introduced herself. He nodded, still suspicious. "Oceane." he echoed. That only served to make his suspicion grow. But, she'd asked for his name. He sighed. Then, he pulled himself out of the pool and back toward the sea. Rather than jump in, he sat on the edge of the hut, his long tail dipping into the water. He glanced at her. "I'll tell you, but you have to keep it a secret. And if you don't, I can always drown you." he said gently, raising his eyebrows. He was beginning to doubt if she could be drowned.
"My father named me Earindil. He was the king before me. I'm sure he's the one you'd remember. If you knew him." He watched her carefully, ready to launch himself into the water and make a fast escape. He didn't like the look of things. He hadn't since his arrival. And he should have left a long time ago. Of course he realized that now that he was invested in the conversation. Now that he had a reason to stay. No, he hated the look of things.
