It had been around two weeks since he’d last seen Solara, but only ten days since he’d returned from the wilderness, from Alvina’s territory that was so secluded in the Naihan mountains. To have reached out to the she-wolf at all, to have called in the debt she owed him from his not having killed her at the ball, had been something of a gamble. He hadn’t anticipated gaining any real information from it. And yet, putting the noses over her entire pack of predators to work, something had turned up. He’d received a letter, dropped by a falcon which promptly flew off – no doubt one of her beasts - rather than a raven or a pigeon. Contained on the page had been a single line: Multiple horses passed through on southern border. Saw neck brands. -AAlmost immediately thereafter, Connor had retrieved a pack, tacked his painted mare, and set out for the grasslands where the ruins of her ranch would stand. Where she would be camping, unaware of the news that was to come. Fortunately, compared to the last time he’d been out to those parts, temperatures had cooled significantly. With fall on the way, he was even accompanied by a cooling breeze for much of the ride out. When the line of her fence finally came into view, he at once tightened his grip on the mare. In the daylight, there was a stark contrast to the smoky evening when he had been there last. A small kick and a small, sharp sound from his throat sent her into a headlong gallop, much in the same way he had that night, however. He shifted his weight, body rolling low over her neck as they approached the charred heap which had once been her home. Solara Ell Polst

She had left the castle the same day as her talk with Connor, after a few hours of sleep of course. She planned to rent a room at the inn eventually but she was doing alright camping on her land. The nights were cooler but nothing that couldn't be remedied with heavy clothing and a bedroll. It had rained once and that had been quite the event that left her soaked and looking like an unhappy feline. But thankfully the last couple days had been clear and on this say the sun was bright as well. Her brother Enzo had been pitching in to help her out as well. It was surprising to her really that he would go out of his way to do so, they barely knew one another. But it was nice to have someone to call family.
She was returning from taking a dip in the small pond near her house. Feeling much better and hopefully in time to allow her hair to dry before night fell. Her stallion had one massive fenced in plot to himself. it was his shrill whinny that brought her attention to the path that led up to what was once her home. The familiar coat of the paint and the dark-haired rider would have normally been a welcome site but there was an urgency to how he rode. Bent over the shoulders of his mare to move swifter with less resistance. She dropped her towel and hurried up to meet them. Running to the open space in front of the remnants of her home where the road he was on would intersect it. Her dark hair that had been pinned in hopes of drying smoothly fell free as she ran and now fell in wet ringlets around her shoulders. She was dressed in a well work blouse and slacks, boots already on her feet.
Without the preamble of a greeting or hello Solara stepped to the side as soon as the Commander drew near. "What happened?" She ask hurriedly. Her dark eyes moving briefly to her stallion as she wondered if she should get his gear on. He looked unhurt so she didn't bother to ask, the mare as well looked in good health if sweaty.

Her stallion whinnied with the appearance of his mare. Seconds later, her form came running from behind the dark ruins of her former home. He almost smiled at the way her curls, however damp, bounced as she hurried over. Shifting his weight as they closed the distance between them, he gave a small pull the reins of the paint. At once, the spirited paint dug in her hooves, churning up dust in her wake. Tossing her head, she practically danced in a circle, seemingly feeling cheated after he’d rescinded the freedom to move her head so quickly so quickly.
Solara’s eyes were sharp, reflecting a keen alertness with his appearance. Connor was pleased in that moment, prideful of the fact that he had something to offer. A direction to go on, even if it would potentially send them somewhere that he wasn’t particular welcome… and where a particular she-wolf might’ve been. Solara might get a kick out of the first bit, at the least, were they to go together – No. Not were they. He’d already decided that he wasn’t inclined to sending her off into pack territory, after her horses, without assistance. The man had reached the conclusion on his journey to the farm. That aside, while Alvina wouldn’t want to intervene in his matters, that didn’t mean she’d take kindly to someone else showing up by themselves.
From one of his saddle bags, he produced the small piece of parchment, folded neatly in two. He held it down in Solara in offering, waiting for her to take the scrap before he shifted to swing down from the mare. “I know where some of your stock is. I called in a favor from a werewolf acquaintance after you left, and just got this back.” The details, he could explain them later.

He didn't speak at first, just thrust a folded scrap of paper out to her that she plucked from his fingers and unfolded. Her eyebrows narrowed as she read the words. One part sticking out to her. Neck brands.. Her brow wrinkled with confusion and she looked up to Connor when he landed on the ground beside her. The answer to her question rising on his lips before she could speak. Her eyes widened when he verified that he knew where some of her horses were and Solara didn't know what to say. He had literally rendered her speechless.
After a couple beats of silence she suddenly moved, her arms wrapping around the Commander in a quick possibly rough hug before she stepped back. "I don't even know what to say." A horrible thank you really but in her smile it was readily evident that the lithe woman was thrilled. "Southern border, I'm not sure where that is. Could you sketch me a map or even just tell me how to get there?" She was moving now, tossing words over her shoulder as she moved toward the pen that held her stallion. A quick shrill whistle brought him her way. His slender legs eating up the ground as he hurried toward the gate. Solara slipped his bridle on, something he thankfully had no qualms about and dipped his head to allow for her short stature. The saddle was a little trickier and heavier. But she could manage as she always did. With both arms wrapped around the saddle she stepped over to the stallions side. Tossing the blanket on and then hefting the saddle up with a little less ease.
"Is that near the clan territories?" She ask Connor as she worked. Her hands cinching the saddle tight around her mount and giving it a once over check before she took his reins and walked him over to where the mare stood. Not releasing him because he was a stallion, and she was a mare. She idly played with one of her dark curls as she contemplated her next move. It was a most girly thing for a woman such as herself to do but she hadn't even noticed. "I'll need to get my dagger, some food, coin-wait."
Why hadn't he sent a messenger? He didn't need to come out this far to give her a message, he was a busy man after all. "Why did you bring this to me and not a messenger?" She held up the note between two fingers. The note that gave her hope amidst all the devestation.

Connor’s arm wrapped around her shoulders reflexively, unbothered by the roughness of her motion. He was enthusiastic, pleased to have gained traction. Her own enthusiasm, much like the occasions when he got her to blush, was something of a reward for his effort. Allowing her to slip away, he set to collecting his mare’s reins as she began peppering him with questions… jumping to action. He lead the paint over so they might speak as they got ready. “That border refers to Alvina’s territory.” He confirmed, while she set to tacking the stallion. Seeming to realize the name might not mean much, and that she was already guessing what was to follow, he met her question with a nod. “Blood Rose territory. It’s a pack of predators – beasts which trickle in from all over the place, when they’re persecuted or kicked out of their own clans.”
He didn’t offer to draw a map, nor to supply the information for how to get there. Both of those things… he technically wasn’t supposed to do. He suspected Alvina would know he would turn up accompanied this time, that she might dismiss it if he didn’t tell them much detail… But she wouldn’t like it. She’d be furious. Despite that, he’d also promised Solara he’d be truthful. And so, he was trying to be. He waited for her to catch the snag, to notice his lack of answer.
She paused, and rather than noticing, seeming to run through a list aloud as she twisted her curls in her fingers. Things were moving quickly; he himself agreed that time would be of the essence in tracking the animals before they disappeared again. He started to open his mouth, to supply the next bit of critical information, the proverbial wrench in the situation, but she found another question. The question. He regarded her with a small smile. “The Alpha in that territory, she won’t take kindly to outsiders traipsing through. She and I have an arrangement from before my time in the military; I’m not supposed to bring Immortals there. Which is why it’s fortunate that they were… Sighted South of it. So, that is why I didn’t want to involve a messenger in this” He cleared his throat. “And… I don’t assume the horses are unaccompanied. So I was planning to come with you.” His words came smoothly, his eyes challenging her.

Alvina. The name meant nothing to her although she had heard of the Blood Rose pack in passing once or twice. The idea of being near a few outcast werebeasts didn't bother her in the least but she was aware that there were territory lines. Lines she couldn't safely cross even with a treaty. She had turned to look at Connor when he didn't follow up with her other questions. Taking his silence as a way of saying he couldn't or wouldn't. "But, you can't or won't draw me a map." She supplied with a soft sigh. Pushing her dark mass of curls back from her face and giving Connor a look.
Then the explanation came. He couldn't bring immortals there. And their destination was just south of it. "I'm barely even an immortal though, still in my youth. And I hibernate like a bear, or at least thats what you call it." They weren't real reasons and she didn't expect them to be enough but she leaned back against her stallions side with a look of frustration on her features. She was thinking, thinking of a way to find this location he couldn't tell her about. And then he slid the comment in as smooth as water over stones. "Come with me?" She repeated and crossed her arms.
It wasn't as if she had anything against Connor. Just the opposite really. But the last help she had taken from him had ended awkwardly. Albeit not as badly as she could have...she could be dead. Even so she was hesitant to accept and her dark eyes locked onto his. Not backing down from the commander even if she did have to look up to him to meet his gaze. "I cant start to depend on you for everything, Connor." Her words were level but soft at the edges. "I appreciate what you have done but I'm sure I could manage from here...plus I have my brother Enzo and Odom." Of course she didn't imagine that either of them had the combat experience that Connor did. But she had another reason for not wanting him there. A reason she wasn't about to let him in on.
The last time he had helped her he had lost the use of his hand. She wasn't willing to let him risk his health because of her again. It was just a matter of finding reasons other than that to say, and convincing him to make her a map.....it was unfortunate that he was as stubborn as she was.

“Both. I can’t because I promised I wouldn’t.” His smile was dry, unamused. He could tell from the look that followed that she was more than dissatisfied. And then came her jest. His nose wrinkled a little. “I could know you for a thousand years and you’ll never let me live that down, will you, Lady Ell Polst?” The use of her full title; Connor had to meet her prod for prod.
Any jokes or personal prodding ceased with the crossing of her arms, and the reluctant look scrawled across her face. He met her gaze unrelentingly, his hand absently moving to pat the mare’s sweaty shoulder as she protested. Couldn’t depend on him for everything? It wasn’t as if he hadn’t been around for a couple of weeks, leaving her to her own devises. Even that had been something he’d voiced concerns over. And yet, as she spoke, he found his thoughts drawn in, curious.
Connor couldn’t really think of her having mentioned a brother previously. It was perhaps a touch awkward for him to learn of such a relationship right then, but then again, he hadn’t been inclined overly to speak of his own family, beyond the father which had rescued Solara from her slumber. That had been back when they’d first met. Not inclined to dwell on the thought, his brow arched as he tilted his head. “I suppose they can come too, as long as we avoid the border. Unless your brother or this Odom are trained to deal with armed men on their own terrain?” A jab, yes, but given the way things had gone last time, the way he’d found her pinned with a sword at her chest, he wasn’t willing to see her go alone.
He shifted then, passing the mare’s reins over her neck before throwing a foot into the stirrup. A moment more, and he was astride her, gathering those reins into one of his gloved hands. “You know, considering that, it might just be best for me to go by myself.” His voice was half teasing, then, he changed strategy. With almost a whiny, boyish tone to his words, he continued. “I put in a lot of work on this. You can’t deny me my climax right at the end.”

Solara's eyes narrowed menacingly on the Commander. Did he really just call her Lady Ell Polst? Someone had his big boy pants on today. "No, Commander. I don't generally let things go." He went on to say that her brother and Odom could come along. People that she hadn't actually intended to bring in the first place but she wanted to sound as if she had 'someone' to help her and wasn't going to charge in alone. Even if that had been her plan.
He continued to goad her and the scowl on Solara's face only deepened. He could be such an ass when he wanted to. Without a word Solara strode over to where she had left her belongings and tossed everything she needed into her pack. Leaving her bed roll laying over the fence so that she wouldn't have to tote it around. The less baggage the better when they needed to move quickly. A soft click of her tongue brought the stallion back to her that had wandered a couple steps away and was nibbling curiously at some grass. After she tied her things to the saddle she put her foot in the stirrup and tossed her other leg over. She wriggled a bit to find her sweet spot in the saddle and then reined her stallion in close to Connor's mare. Purposefully making her horses hip bump against his mares.
"You will not be leaving me while you go on a mission to retrieve my horses. Connor Lachesis." She leaned in the saddle then, closer to him as if she were about to deal him some secret. "And I don't recall ever denying you your climax." Her voice has fallen to almost a purr then but the look in her eyes was still devilish if coy. If he insisted on going them so be it. But if he ended up injured this time she was just going to have to wrap him in blankets and stick a warning on his back. When her stallion decided to get a little too inquisitive about the mare at his side she pulled his rein tight to force him into a quick circle. Distancing them from the duo and putting his mind somewhere else.
"Well then? Were waisting time, Commander. I don't know how you do things back at the castle but out here we make the most of our days." If he was going to play this game then Solara would return swing for swing. He did call her a Lady though, that was a low blow by all accounts.

The entire interaction was one which he found himself intensely amused by. He knew he needed to keep concealed his grins, less she find them insufferable. He certainly knew might have, had he been the recipient of such goading. Fortunately, with her back turning to collect her things, he could allow the fleeting appearance to crack his features.
The look ghosted away when she finally called for her mount. A small squeeze sent his mare several steps closer to them as he waited for Solara to fasten her things in. It was when she finally reined the mount in, something which caused him to tighten the grip on his mare’s reins less she take a nip at the stallion, that his brows shot up. The sultry tone, accompanied by the look on her face, prompted him to shake his head at once. Grunting as a means of response, lest he give her the obvious acknowledgement that she… well… was right, he gave his mare a small kick.
Her tail swished as she moved forward, reined neatly in a circle as Connor’s eyes met Solara’s with a challenge. The corner of his lip twitched with a small smirk. “I knew we’d make better time without the others anyway.” He couldn’t help it. Her ruse – her attempt to dissuade him – had been almost laughable. He had to tease her for it.
Not waiting for a response, he exhaled a sharp sound. At once, as if she’d been fired from a cannon, the paint mare took off enthusiastically back down the road from which they’d come only a short while before.
They were off to the Naihan Mountains.
