THERE'S NOTHING LEFT FOR ME WHEN ALL BEAUTY'S DESTROYED Night was closing in and he had gone as far as he would allow his legs to carry him: Duskmire Woods. If Lucia was alive this was about as far as she would have made it before getting caught like she usually did but there was absolutely no trace of her. Because of her absence, Killian had been a lost and more apt to get into trouble than usual. His working had been aimless and he hadn't cared much for the treatment he would receive later for leaving. It wasn't like him and though the guards knew something was going on with their best worker none of them had taken the time to care. Not like they should. It wasn't their job to care what was wrong with their employees but it was unlike him to be punished so much. Much like this night, he knew he would be drug back sooner rather than later. he supposed he should make them work for it and wait for them to come. He took a moment to look around his surroundings. He was a bit of a more open area, able to see the flat land spread out wide in front of him surrounded by trees. In that clearing, he could see the stars something he had found himself often looking to for some kind of guidance... or answer. But like most nights even the stars had nothing useful to prove him with. He really didn't want to believe she was dead but he knew what he smelt. It was blood and it wasn't just any one's blood it was her blood. The wolf hybrid had done something to her but his only problem was he was getting absolutely no closure. There was nobody to confirm his suspicions. There was no evidence of where she even was. It was almost like she disappeared right at Felix. Sitting down now at the base of the tree, he wallowed in what freedom he had left. Resting his arms on his knees he fiddled with a piece of grass between his fingers. Maybe he should just accept the fact she was gone. Even if he did it still didn't hurt any less. She was his friend and that was something he would never get over. Lowering his hazel eyes for a moment to the grass he could pick up the sounds of footprints. he stayed quiet hoping whoever it was would go away or simply miss him. He wasn't really in the mood to deal with a visitor of any kind let alone be dragged back to work. Once the footprints step, a familiar smell caught his attention and made him look up. He didn't really have to squint to see who it was. Thankfully his vision was great at night. "Djinn? What are you doing out here? You are the last person I thought I would see...." his tone was anything but happy. Truthfully it didn't hold the usual affection it did when it came to seeing the male fae. It lingered on emotionless and perhaps a little broken. word count ✖ Djinn ✖ notes if you want

Djinn didn't call anywhere home. Not Cendra, not back with the fae. He was a wanderer, a drifter with no place to call home. Tonight he had taken refuge in a tree, his nimble frame allowing him to climb high into one of the towering trees to rest. As the night rolled on he awoke for no obvious reason but something felt...out of place. With a wrinkle in his brow, he climbed down and began to aimlessly walk. Yawning and shoving a hand through his hair as he moved in no obvious direction. It was completely by chance that he would stumble upon the feline sitting at the base of a tree. He was surprised to say the least and a smirk immediately planted itself on his face only to fade when he noticed the normally upbeat Killian seemed rather...depressed.
At Killian's greeting the furrow in his brow deepened and Djinn crouched down in front of him. His normally cocky carefree attitude replaced with worry. Why was he out here? Was he even allowed to be? Had someone harmed him? "Just who did you expect to see out here, Killian?" He ask slowly as his blue eyes roamed over what he could see of the man's skin. He didn't see any major injuries but...something was definitely going on here. "...why are you out here in the middle of the night? Are you even....allowed to leave?" He asked as tactfully as he could manage. He pursed his lips then reached out to gently let one of his hands rest on Killian's knee.
The man was a werebeast, he knew as much. But these woods would swallow anyone alive not familiar with the creatures that haunted its depths. "Did someone hurt you?" He ask in a softer tone, one that had very rarely even been heard. But Killian had a quality to him that brought the gentler side out of Djinn. Not an innocense really but a kindness that had somehow not been defiled even living the life he had. He was aware that Killian would speak sweetly to anyone to get the coin, it was his job. But he believed, perhaps foolishly. That there was more to it than that.

THERE'S NOTHING LEFT FOR ME WHEN ALL BEAUTY'S DESTROYED His gaze drifted from Djinn before he even really answered him. He was staring off again. Almost as if he was expecting Lucia’s appearance to come a crossed the open area in front of him. He chewed on his thumb nail now as Djinn was crouching down next to him. If it hadn’t been a touch to his knee, he probably wouldn’t have further acknowledged the male fae. Despite his open affection towards him the male panther was lost in thought. Lost in his own feelings. It wasn’t usual he let his emotions get the better of him. In his line of duty he was better off shut off to the core but the moment that Djinn spoke again, tears started to brim the male panthers eyes for a moment before sucking in a breath and swallowing it back. No. He wouldn’t let those escape even if he wanted to. It was always when someone asked what was wrong was when those tears wanted to come to surface – even if the fae didn’t quite use those exact words. ”No one I suppose.” he said quietly. ”Probably not…. No.. actually no I am not but I don’t care.” It was evident as much as he sat there awaiting for his captors to track him down and drag him back. Another series of harsh lashings for his disobedience but nothing could hurt as bad as his heart did at the moment. ”You probably shouldn’t be here when they come. They’ll be looking for me.” Djinn would know who he was talking about. He rest his head backwards and legs finally fell flat spread out in front of him. He wiggled his feet a little back and forth in a nervous shake attempting to keep things locked in attempting to distract himself from the onset of emotions trying to push back out again but as Djinn spoke again it had been the second time he drew his hazel eyes back towards the blue ones of his partner. ”He killed her, you know.” of course he didn’t know. ”The fucking pathetic hybrid killed Lucia. I know he did.” Anger was now slipping into his words, a feline growl nearly covering them in aggressive ferocity. He couldn’t help it. Even when his lips closed the panthers hissing remained. His teeth were gritted. ”A person can’t just disappear into thin air… a person can’t just be gone.”One would almost expect that he was this upset because of love. However it wasn’t love it was more of a feline bond that anyone who wasn’t feline couldn’t understand. Unlike canines, felines weren’t as accepting of most of their own kind however when they find another cat they clicked with it was a sort of possession that came over them. A need to be in that other felines company, a strong urge to protect their companion. ”He didn’t deserve her.” He hissed again but if it were up to him no one deserved Lucia. She was a diamond in the ruff. ”the moment she told me she was mated to him. I knew it was going to be bad. He was going to hurt her… that wolf was going to eat her alive…… I just didn’t think he would literally do it.” Or maybe he did and just didn’t want to believe it. Breathing through his nose again, he shook his head. ”sorry, Djinn. I’m not trying to burden you with my issues.” Eyes dropped to his hands. word count ✖ Djinn ✖ notes if you want

Something was bothering the feline, and badly. Djinn rubbed his chin with the knuckle of his finger as he waited for an answer. But the answers only brought more questions. Djinn scoffed when he said he shouldn't be there when they came. "I can handle myself, Killian." He said with a small smirk. But that turn of his lips quickly faded when Killian finally began to actually speak to him. His friend? Lucia? Lucia....hmm....oh yes, that sassy little silver haired women. The hybrid killed her? What hybrid? Why? Was Killian out here on some revenge mission or something? His words were building, the animal side of him slipping in. Growling, hissing, it was so...unusual to see Killian with anything but a smile. But if his friend was indeed dead then he had a very good reason to be upset.
Djinn was silent as Killian continued to pour out his pain, eventually, he would move so that he could sit down at Killian's side with his back against the side of the tree. His shoulder brushing Killian's as he raked his hand back through his hair. Djinn did not do well with emotions, he could barely handle his own which was why they remained locked in a little box that only appeared very briefly on rare occasions. In this position, he couldn't see the other man's face, although his pain was just as evident in his voice. It was somehow easier to not be staring at him as he hurt.
"I'm sorry Killian, about your friend. If there is any way I can help you know I will." He again raked his fingers through his hair, the nervous habit occupying his need to be doing something when he was so overwhelmed and helpless in the face of another's pain. He slowly reached out to clasp his hand over one of Killian's and squeeze. Not holding his hand really as much as just a reassuring move, one that felt strange for him to try to convey. But again, the sweet man had a way of taking away his normal jerk attitude. "Come with me, alright? There's no use in just sitting here while those assholes search you out."
He didn't make a move to get up, instead he waited for Killian's response. "There is an inn nearby, I can get you some food. A safe place for you to rest." His mind was still turning despite his calm words. Had someone killed one of the girls? It happened but those customers usually faced the same fate. But the way Killian acted this fellow was still walking around. "You aren't burdening me." He said simply, not elaborating further. While the entire conversation made him somewhat uneasy he was willing to tolerate it just because of who it was that was in pain.
"She was mated?" He repeated curiously, that phrase sticking in his head. It didn't make any sense...why would her own mate kill her? Especially if he felt it too.

THERE'S NOTHING LEFT FOR ME WHEN ALL BEAUTY'S DESTROYED Once the damn of emotions broke, he started to sober up. He didn’t usually let those type of things get to him but most things weren’t his Lucia either. The moment Djinn’s shoulder touched his though it was like suddenly he was brought back to a steadiness. Physical contact. Even just the smallest amount of it did him wonders. It somehow grounded him when he felt like he was running in every direction, spiraling out of control, having nothing to latch onto before getting blown away. But the moment that contact was made it was like he was snapped and locked back into place. With the assurances and pressure of Djinn’s shoulder in his own, he breathed through his nose sucking in a breath. He pressed his shoulder in a little harder against the fae’s as he spoke saying his condolences before telling him to follow. Finally, hazel eyes shifted towards the male fae and he gave a slow sobered smile and nodded before bumping his head against his shoulder and arm in only a way cats do. ”You are too kind to me.” He didn’t really think he deserved it. Not for the sins he had committed and the rather dirty things he keeps doing. He did wish there was something Djinn could do. He was almost sure the man was capable of doing it but with how unstable Felix could be… he didn’t want to lose Djinn also. So he kept that comment to himself even if he wanted to say: Kill him. Even as the words were on the tip of his tongue he said another set instead. ”Just being a friend is more than enough.”A slow nod was given to his question. ”She was. To a wolf. The last I saw her she said they were working it out and she seemed happy. I was glad. Felix --… he’s…. hard to be around. Funny how he was the guardian over her squadron.” he probably said too much as it were. ”However Felix turned on everyone. Stole the boss’s specific girl and hid her and eventually got caught. I think his heart was in the right place…. Trying to save that girl but somehow everything just went wrong. Lucia must’ve gone to get him and being the mouthy young lady she was, he probably got swallowed in the shadow of his wolf and---…” his jaws tightened not finishing. He didn’t know if that was the whole story as he was primarily reciting most of what he was told or overheard. The thing that bothered him the most was that he couldn’t even find Lucia’s remains. It was like she was gone. The one last good thing he could do for his friend gave her a proper burial and he couldn’t even do that for her. He didn’t want to say anymore and instead just drug himself up and away from Djinn. ”Well if we are gonna go we probably should soon. I can smell them getting closer.” he said quietly. ”Unless you change your mind and wanna give me back.”Trying to cheer himself up he snickered. It was an attempt but still quite dead to his usual upbeat charming attitude. ”At least this time you don’t even have to pay for my company.”word count ✖ Djinn ✖ notes if you want

Djinn was silent, observant. A far ways from his normal charismatic self. But the bump against his shoulder caused him to tip his head down blue eyes moving to watch Killian from the corner of them. ”You are too kind to me.” What a strange thing to say. Had he been kind? Djinn had used him just as everyone else who purchased the sweet fellow had. He had taken his pleasure of the flesh and then left him to wallow in that hell hole day after day. When he felt the pressure against his shoulder steady and firm he pushed back although acting as if he hadn't noticed. It must be hard...losing someone he cared so much about. It was for that precise reason that Djinn didn't make connections. Or at least that was what he told himself.
”Just being a friend is more than enough.” He closed his eyes on that note and leaned his head back against the rough bark of the tree. Must he be so sweet? Even now when he had lost his friend he was still kind. "Must you always be so nice, Killian." Djinn said lowly his blue eyes opening to peer up at the darkened leaves above them. Barely able to distinguish between the shades of darkness. The story he told made a muscle in Djinn's jaw tick but otherwise, he gave no reaction. Before when he had served his people during the war when he had been hired by those snotty nobles. Those people who looked down on anyone less fortunate just because they had wealth. The night workers, they were scrambling to stay alive. And even amidst their dark world they made connections, tried to save one another. How anyone could look down on such a strong people he would never understand.
A pulse of pain moved up his spine and Djinn's body tensed until it passed. They called them phantom pains. But how could something he didn't even have hurt? How could he still feel that wing as if it were attached? Perhaps the answer was obvious. Like the feline at his side who was aching for a lost friend, a loss didn't take away the memories. And knowing what you once had was perhaps the most painful ache of all. Suddenly Killian pulled away and was on his feet leaving Djinn blinking as he waded through the fog of memories. "We should." He agreed. Djinn climbed to his feet and straightened his long coat, tugging at his shirt to straighten the band that held his wings firmly against his back. He still had two out of four and while they weren't enough to help him they would draw attention, draw pity. Making the small nub that remained of his missing wing spasm helplessly as it tried to mirror the movements. "I have no intention of giving you back." He said without looking at the cat, but just what his words might mean was left to be determined.
He smirked a little at Killian's words and began to walk. "I'll probably spend more filling that belly of yours that I ever do buying you." He joked and shoved his hands into his deep pockets. "How long have you been out here anyway?" He was struck then by just how....innocent the man seemed. Not in certain ways obviously. But there was a pureness to him that hadn't been tainted in Djinn's eyes by being a man for hire. He didn't have that darkness in his soul like many did. Like Djinn did. It was something to be marveled but at the same time the more sadistic side of him was licking its chops.
Trust....it was such a foolish ideal. Who really knew anyone?
He walked with long strides, leaves crunching softly underfoot as he moved. "How old are you Killian? We have never really....talked." No. They always had better things to do.

His attraction for Djinn laid just about the same with everyone he was extremely close with. He flirted, he liked touching, he liked doing more sensual and passionate things with him. His feelings towards the fae were no doubt strong and no doubt there, however, he just went with the flow of things. Perhaps he was very foolish to trust Djinn but he couldn't help it. He wanted to. In part, the other male took care of him and that to him meant more than foolish words. His actions even said he somehow... somewhere... might care about the cat too. He wasn't innocent enough to know that there wasn't something dark about the man he was quickly beginning to get enraptured by. That didn't mean he feared him or was worried about how far he could place his trust in him. If he ended up paying for it well then he supposed he would. It didn’t cross his mind as a non-possibility. It was a high one. Just like with everyone else he dealt with.
At his words, he merely gave Djinn a brighter smile. "Only to those I like enough," he said. There were those he was kind to like it was his job and then there were those who were like Djinn, he enjoyed being kind to. "Do you wish me not to?" He asked curiously. He could try but he didn't know if he could successfully pull it off. He stood there and waited for the other man to follow. He agreed when he said that they should get moving and of course added on he had no intentions of giving him back. Another meaning never crossed his mind, he was just happy he had a little more time away from a place that brought on depression. ”Good. I didn’t really want to.” that had been the first mention of him ever saying an honest negative thing about the lifestyle he lived. Usually, it came with no words or a simple bounce around the question when it came to how he actually felt being there. ”Not right now at least…” And with that, his mood shifted as he went about distracting himself with something else. He washed that emotion away quickly, letting it roll off of him like water.
Once Djinn moved, he followed almost obediently. Keeping in perfect step with the other man he listened as he asked how long he had been there. ”Before it got dark,” he said. ”I didn’t really know where to go. I never got much further than this before I was caught and dragged back.” he shrugged his shoulders. That was if he did try to escape. ”Honestly that was only twice. I never really leave the city if I do leave the workers quarters. Never saw much of a point to …. Running.” It might have sounded hopeless but he wasn’t meaning it to be. There was no point primarily because they had like a locator on them. They knew the lands almost better than the captors did but then again the guardians surveyed the lands all the time. They were always out.
His hands now were retreating into his pockets as he walked fluidly along. Listening to the following question his hazel eyes shifted from the ground and their feet up to Djinn’s blue eyes for a moment. That was a weird question to him. Why did his age matter? ”Why?” he asked. Not that it was a bad question but he wondered if Djinn was suddenly getting second thoughts because he was clearly younger. ”I’m not clueless, Djinn. I know there is more to you than what meets the eye. You use me and I know it.” a shrug was given. ”But that doesn’t mean it’s not because I don’t want you to. I don’t… really care.” that was kind of sad to think about but people use people. It was how the species lived. ”Life has played out in such a way that I would question the true intentions of people who were being honest than the ones who sweetened me with a lie.” Eyes drift from him and back out in front of him. ”But that’s okay. Doesn’t mean I don’t know what I am getting out of all of this or not getting….. nor does it make me like you any less.” A small curve of his lip moved upwards as he looked back at him. Djinn didn’t seem to be the emotional kind and Killian tried not to be. Emotions made things sticky, you get attached then you get hurt. It was how the universe worked. 'But to answer your question. I am 24. I'm assuming you are an old timer?" he poked fun playfully.

Djinn hadn't answered Killian's question about being less kind. While part of him wanted to push the man to be gruffer so that others wouldn't see him as easy prey another part of him liked the vulnerability. If only so that he could feed off of it himself. As they walked Killian would answer his questions and Djinn would look over at him on occasion before back to the dark path in front of them. "You never saw a reason to run? You are sold like some commodity but you never sought to put an end to it?" Maybe it said something for Killian's tolerance, or maybe like so many others he had been broken by the dark industry that marketed in bodies.
The question about Killian's age was answered in a way that surprised him. He looked over his shoulder at the Feline, eyes narrowing for just a moment before the suspicion faded and he looked back to the path he walked. "I was curious is all." He said simply, his thumb sliding back and forth over his palm where his lance would appear if he willed it too. He laughed softly when the feline finally gave his age. Twenty-four. Weres aged well, he could have been well over a hundred and still looked so young. But Djinn had suspected he still had his youth, at least physically. "I assumed you were but a cub, and I am pretty old actually." They hadn't done this before, the simple back and forth of questions that would let them learn about one another. Things had always been careful, measured, limited to only that moment in time.
This was different and as simple as it might seem it was still something Djinn just didn't do. Even Eriu who knew more about him that he preferred. Even with her, he kept his friendly joking facade up at all times. It wasn't hard as cheerful as the fae always was. But Killian just by being Killian made his walls crumble. It was worrisome. Djinn looked up at the dark sky and blew out a slow breath. "I am one hundred and seventy three years old, and I feel every damn one of them." Physically he was fit, even more so since the loss of his wings that pushed him to work harder just to do the simple things a fae would do. He was quite light on his feet, athletic. But mentally the fae felt his years like a heavy weight on his shoulders.
Thankfully the inn could be seen at that point, just on the edge of a small little town that didn't even have a name. Djinn would pause in the shadow of the trees and stare at the wooden building before reluctantly shrugging his long coat off. He didn't like removing it but Killian needed to stay hidden. He looked more exotic than many people here and if anyone came searching his description would be an easy tip off. "Here, put this on and pull the hood up." Djinn fidgeted with the ties that held his wings firm before sighing and moving inside the inn. Late at night as it was the elderly woman who sat there appeared half asleep anyway.
"We need a room." Djinn said and dropped some coins on the counter. "One or two beds?" She ask with a yawn. Djinn hesitated but his deep voice came again, a bit softer this time. "One." She didn't care one way or the other and handed over a heavy key. "First door you'll see when you go up the stairs there." Again he reached for Killian's hand and would pull the feline along with him up the stairs. After unlocking the door he would usher him inside then relock it. "I think food will have to wait until morning." He apologized while dropping the key onto a small wooden table near the door.

Had the feline been any other person he probably would have taken Djinn’s words to heart. Unfortunately, though he didn’t. He didn’t see the problem with his actions. How he had seen it though that was a type of survival method he was proud of doing. Unlike the other girls, he didn’t get harassed as much if he did run. He didn’t get beaten nor did he get as mistreated. He was being smart in his methods even if the other man didn’t see it that way. He could see the questioning in his eyes though when he did look his way and with fluid motion, he kicked a rock out in front of him. ”What's the point when you inevitably get drug back? Besides no one leaves not unless it's in a body bag.” One could say he was taking a huge risk being out here as it were. ”So you are probably wondering why to risk it all now… or maybe you're not…. But to be truthful, I can’t say I care right now.” there was a lot he didn’t care about right now and getting hurt or possibly killed -- likely not the last one it loses money -- was one of them.
They continued on their way and he could see there was a definite change in his companion right now. He wasn’t his usual charismatic self. In fact, he seemed to be glowering and he wasn’t sure why. Did he get too emotional for him back there? He hadn’t meant to open the floodgates and usually never did unless he was alone. Even Lucia didn’t see Killian torn up about anything. He did his best to bounce around such emotions and evade them as best he could but sometimes it catches up to him and unfortunately, Djinn had been there to witness it. His depression crept up and got him and held him in a chokehold for a moment. ”Wow you are really old.” he said before leaning over and nudging him with his shoulder. ”Should I start looking for old peoples homes?” He was trying to lighten whatever he may have darkened even if he wasn’t entirely in the mood to do so. However, he wouldn’t let his emotions get the better of him again and regretted doing so in the first place. He wasn’t a pansy. He had control over his emotions. He complained about feeling all of those years he had and Killian nodded. ”You must have seen and done a lot. I have just in my short few years. I mean twenty-four is by no means an amazing feat but I am pretty proud of myself for making it this long. In my world, not many make it for too long not when you start out at such a young age like I have.” It was where he had learned to shut up and do as you are told if you wanted to live. He had the will to survive and so he just adjusted with each different handler he has had.
Once they reached the inn though he was surprised when he was handed the male's coat. His eyes lingered on it for a moment as he could see Djinn’s hesitation in the matter and then the way he had adjusted the band on him. If Killian had learned anything over the years it was to not ask questions. Making up a simple thing in his mind he left it at that. It was probably safer that way as he didn’t want to offend him for asking probably such a weird or common knowledge question. Maybe all fairies did it? Truthfully he didn’t deal with other fairies but Djinn. The people he usually dealt with were other weres, some humans, elves, and immortals…. Primarily immortals. Taking the coat he slipped it on and nearly purred at the attractive smell. It caused his skin to nearly vibrate with such intense invigoration. He bit down on his lips to keep the purr from escaping nearly trembling as he tried to keep control of it. It seemed so silly to be purring at a smell. Even his cat was wanting to take the coat and roll around in it, soak up the scent and mask his own musk. Once he was sure that control was put back into place he was then further instructed to put the hood up. He did as he was told but the purring almost escaped again as the feeling of warmth and safety was overcoming him. It was weird. The sensations he was getting throughout his body.
They headed inside and he gave the place a quick look around. Curiosity getting the better of him and nearly slipped the hood off but remembered Djinn saying he needed to keep it on. After buying the room -- or was it bed?? … he was grabbed by the hand and whisked up the stairs retreating to the safety of the room from prying eyes. Once in he tugged the hood off his head. He was nearly high off of the smell of the fairy and wanted to keep it and snuggle in it but of course, he knew he should probably hand it back over. Holding the edges of the coat for a moment in his fingers he slowly peeled it back off. ” That’s fine. I'm not all that hungry right now anyways. Also, H-here.” he said. ”You probably feel naked without this thing. You smell really good by the way….” It was a random comment there at the end but as he thought about the smell the purr finally escaped.
He looked at him a little shyly for a moment. ”Damn it sucks being a cat sometimes.” he laughed and then cleared his throat before heading into the room more and dropped on the bed. The comfort of the mattress welcomed his tired body. ”You know they will track us here eventually right?” He watched him with soft hazel eyes. He was a little tired more emotionally than physically but at the same time sharing a room with no bought time with Djinn had him slightly wired. ”We always get dragged back.” He lifted his head and rested it on his hand while his elbow was propped on the bed.

Djinn’s lips had twisted into a smirk at Killian’s rhetorical questions. ”I suppose your right, it is the definition of insanity to do the same thing repeatedly and expect a different outcome every time. Maybe that just means you are sane, Killian.” It was the statement about not caring that made Djinn’s shoulders tense, just a little. Was he suicidal then? Was this some desperate attempt at ending it all? It seemed rather prolonged, there were much easier ways to end it than running into the woods in the middle of the night and waiting for some kelpie or devilish beast to snatch him. ”You will survive.” Perhaps that sounded harsh but it wasn’t as he intended. He meant to say the pain would fade with time. That slowly he would see her face less and less until he could go nearly an entire day without thinking about her. Some wounds never truly healed on the inside, just scabbed over. [break][break] When Killian said he was old he cracked a smile and looked back at him with a sideways grin. ”I know, right?” When he mentioned old folks homes and Djinn chuckled. ”Just no stairs. I don’t wanna’ be the fae that forgets he can’t fly and ends up eating dirt for breakfast.” His cold eyes softened on the younger man when he said he was proud to have survived as long as he had. Indeed his profession was not one that anyone grew old in. ”Indeed.” It was after that when they arrived at the inn and he gave up his coat. Once they were inside the room Djinn ran a hand through his shaggy locks and scratched at one of his tattoos that licked a little higher near his throat. [break][break] He felt naked around anyone without his coat. Of course Killian had seen him without it on several occasions but it was always for ‘good’ reason. Just standing around shooting the breeze made him feel bare and open to questions. He gladly stepped forward to take it back when offered slipping it onto his arms and rolling his shoulders to get it back comfortable and snug against his slender frame. Killian’s comment made him smirk. ”I forget sometimes that you are more sensitive to things. Being a were and all. But…thanks.” [break][break] The purr came then and it was at the embarrassed reaction from Killian that an actual smile came to Djinn’s face. ”As long as you aren’t hissing at me I’m fine, I like hearing you purr…” Perhaps there was a bit on an innuendo to his words but he didn’t follow through. Instead he walked over to the windows, nodding in response to Killian’s words about being found. ”Yes, but not tonight.” Always. How could something so eternal sound so defeatist? But for someone who didn’t even really try to escape how would he know? Someone who Djinn assumed didn’t even fight back when they would force him home but bow his head to their will and do so willingly. [break][break] ”Eventually, Killian, you will find a reason to fight harder. And always won’t seem so long.” It might be ‘a someone’ or even just his youthful exuberance fading away. But eventually he felt the cat would start to see the world like the rest of them and understand that their time here was limited. Some, like himself, chose to squander it. But someone like Killian with so much life ahead of them and so much potential….he shouldn’t be so defeated. [break][break] Djinn would slowly walk over to the bed then sit down beside the man who was already lounging there. There was a hesitance to touch him. It almost felt…wrong. To keep him away from those men and their influence and then just use him for his own devices. ”Tell me Killian…just what type of cat are you? I’m assuming not one of those tiny ones that wander the street.” A hint of a joke, a slight grin. ”We have this one night until they take you back away from me…” His voice trailed off then. He would like very much to shove the dark skinned man back onto the bed and wake everyone in the damn inn with his loud purring. But perhaps that wasn’t the way to go, yet at least. [break][break] ”Is Killian even your real name?” He ask to distract himself from the fanciful images that cluttered his mind.

He felt the warmth coming from his body as he pointed out the obvious. It was weird to get such a timid reaction but this was Djinn we were talking about. This was an interaction that was not paid for and so he didn’t have to put on a show. He could be his sweet self. He made his way over towards the bed and flopped. He had no secret hidden agenda, not this time, instead, he just laid there feeling the fluff surround him in a comforting manner. Hazel eyes opened though when he spoke about purring and hissing and he chuckled. ”Lucky for you. My cat seems to like you.” He said ” besides I don’t think I could hiss at you.” he said. Of course, never say never. Really the only way to truly get on this felines bad side was hurt someone he cared about but well Djinn luckily was one of the few and he didn’t think he could hurt himself to get such a haste reaction. ”Besides you know all of my spots to get me purring anyways. Rub my belly and I will be your friend for a lifetime.”
He was definitely anxious. Anxious about being alone in a room with the male fae, anxious about the pounding on the door would inevitably come, anxious about what tomorrow would bring. He lifts his head up onto his hand as his elbow propped it up on the bed watching as he made his way over and sat down next to him. Probably seemed silly to be so relaxed especially when he didn’t need to be lounged but being a cat that was how they made themselves comfortable. He listened as Djinn spoke but he didn’t answer. He felt like his time was coming soon, maybe sooner rather than later, but for now, he was wanting to live in the moment. ”Maybe but until then I guess I won’t know.”
Almost perking as he spoke about the feline part of him, he laughed. ”I would be a very large house cat.” Now that he thought about it Djinn had never seen him in his feline form. ” You also never asked so I assumed you didn’t have interest in knowing.” Most people didn’t care enough to ask as they were only with him for one thing and one thing only. He nuzzled his leg up to his hip before resting there again. ” I’m a panther.” He lift up now to where his upper half was leaning on his hands, chin tucking towards his chest as he stared up at him with predators gaze. He was lingering close to Djinn’s face his nose only inches from touching the faes. His expression began to change into a calmer and yet dangerous one with harder edges and possibly more calculated. ”You ever see a panther before, Djinn?” he asked curiously his voice hushed with a small purr curling into his words almost seductively. Only one corner of his lips tugged up in a half smile. A soft growl vibrating his chest.
As the last bit of his words still hung around in his mind, it made him think. ”Away from me” those words sounded a little oddly specific something lingering in them that he wasn’t quite sure of. ”Only for a short time, I imagine. You seem to always find me one way or another.”
Allowing his head to move back a bit, he allowed himself to fall back into a seat next to him as he watched. His next question got him to pause a moment. ”As far as I know it is. I mean…. Before I was put into this industry I could have had a different name but from what I remember it’s always been, Killian.” He nodded his head. ”Do I look like I should have a different name? And what about you Is your name just Djinn or do you have a last name? Where did the name Djinn come from?” he asked curiously before pausing again and then spoke once more. ”Since when have you taken an interest in getting to know me better?” he asked curiously not that it really mattered. He enjoyed the conversation. ”I’m not complaining just didn’t seem like a very Djinn thing to do.” He leaned forward and bumped his head into his shoulder again, friendly and affectionate.

[nospaces] [attr="class","LDtable"] [attr="class","LDmain"] [attr="class","LDcontainer"] [attr="class","LDtriangle"] [attr="class","LDcontent"] A panther? Ah…he supposed he could see it now. But even when Killian had that look in his eye it was hard to picture him as a large cat hunting down prey. Maybe that was because in Djinn’s eyes he was always the victim. ”It isn’t as if we usually have much time for talking.” He reasoned, but they both knew the reason was different. That up until this night neither of them had ask questions, crossed that line. [break][break] Killian leaned in then, looking almost dangerous if he wasn’t such a gentle man. ”Not in the fur.” He answered with the hint of a grin. Not missing the tone of his companions words. Killian leaned back on the bed then and said that Djinn would find him as he always did. ”Yea, Cendra is one of my most common haunts.” He didn’t really live anywhere. Djinn’s home was wherever he decided to plot down for the night. Most often it was up in a tree or an awning of a business. Somewhere he could be up high but not somewhere he would need to fly too. [break][break]
He lay down beside Killian with his hands behind his head. Looking up at the ceiling he replied to his question with a completely serious look on his face. ”Yeah. Killian just doesn’t suit you. I was thinking like more of a Tom or a Johnny. Ya know, something plain.” He smirked then and looked over at Killian. The man was anything but plain, but that was why he teased him. Djinn felt quiet when the questions turned to him as they would in a normal conversation. This at least had an easy answer. Even if it was hard for him to let even this little truth be heard. ”It’s something I started calling myself at a young age. I did have another name once upon a time but I haven’t used it in so long it doesn’t feel like ‘mine’ any longer. My sister is likely the only one who would remember it.” His blue eyes had fallen away from Killian’s face and down to watch the soft rise and fall of his chest. He didn’t like talking about himself but it was harder when looking someone in the eyes. [break][break] Djinn didn’t answer Killian when he inquired as to why he was asking these things. Nor did he react to the bump against his shoulder. Why was he? He shouldn’t be. He knew that. But still he felt that pull to connect and oddly enough the desire to protect. It would be someone he couldn’t, that was fitting for his life. ”It isn’t.” Was his answer. Not really an answer at all but more of a way to end the conversation. The cat was right. He needed to stop, this wasn’t what he did and it could only lead to trouble. [break][brea] Djinn would move suddenly, tossing his knee so that he rolled atop the other man and had one knee resting on each side of his hips. One hand planted on each side of the feline’s skull as he stared down at him. A shadow of something passed behind his dark eyes but then Djinn leaned in to roughly claim Killian’s lips, one hand moving behind his neck to pull him closer and restrict him from pulling back at the same time. He pulled back briefly, just enough to speak. ”Is this more like me?”

Most didn’t see that side of Killian primarily because he didn’t show it often. He did, however, have a dangerous side. A murderous side. His beast lived well and strong in him but to be truthful, it was hard to get him that far. That was because he had always had to stamp that side of him down and let it lie with usual charming and bouncy carefree behavior. Besides who likes being angry and gloomy all the time? He sure didn’t. He would rather live life the way it should be. As he spoke truthful words, the panther nodded his head with a soft but lingering smile. ”Kind of nice to know you are at least a little curious.” There was a light flickering in his hazel eyes of life and curiosity. The fairy made him curious there was no doubt about it and there were numerous things he wanted to ask but always feared of crossing a line. He enjoyed Djinn. Enjoyed his company and didn’t want to piss him off if he was trying to get too close and get more out of it than just a clientele relationship.
The feline tipped his head a little at Djinn’s grin, admiring the smile for a moment before letting his eyes guide back up to Djinn’s listening as he explained Cendra was his commonplace. He nodded his head before sitting back on the bed. ”I would love to go somewhere else.” he said. ”Maybe see those mountains I have heard about.” His eyes narrowed for a moment as he peered over at the door. He had never made it that far, he was surprised he made it this far now and though he knew those men were out there looking for him ready to beat him and drag him back…. A rebelliousness was steadily coming alive. Eyes shifted back to Djinn as he lowered onto the bed now, his head lowering just a tad to better see him as he shifted. ”I don’t think I am bad enough to pull off a Johnny.” he snickered. ”You could though. Bad boy attitude who steals from the rich and gives to the poor.” He shifted a little closer to him. ”You think I am plain?” That wasn’t something he had heard before. Most people came to him or Lucia because of their exotic looks. People were attracted to that sort of thing. He never really understood why but he supposed it was just what made sex sell better.
He wanted to ask what that name was. It sat on the tip of his tongue eager to come out but from the sound of Djinn’s voice, he was hesitant to say anything anyways. ”Makes sense.” He said. He could see what he meant. After not using a name for so long you just kind of lose it. It becomes foreign. He had heard of people doing it besides one could be surprised at all the things he has heard.
The change was evident as Killian pestered about why he was curious. It didn’t seem like it was in Djinn’s character to want to get to know someone so he wondered why him. No less Djinn cut it short maybe displeased with his answer. He frowned a little as Djinn moved in on him but quietly kissed the man back, purring behind it. He didn’t push backward he allowed Djinn to have the control for now. Just as he pulled back, a more feline cast was to his eyes as he stared into Djinn’s darker casted ones. ”I didn’t mean to offend.” He said quietly pushing his free hand down in between them, along the fairies legs, Killian leaned in closer lips linger closer he whispered. ”We can do whatever you want…. Just… don’t bring me in this far only to shut me out later.” He nipped Djinn’s bottom lip, tugging it with the rough quality. He was by no means a dainty wilting flower and refused to be treated like one.

[break][break]
"The mountains..." Djinn repeated while staring up at the ceiling. "It's harsher there...the air so thin that you can drag in deep breaths and still feel like you are drowning. Niwetri, you would have probably liked it there if you could tolerate all the fae." He smirked, his kind could indeed grate on the nerves of the other races. Tricksters, many of them hyperactive and spoke all too much. Djinn liked his home place just fine, it just wasn't home to him. He was a wanderer by heart. The thought of putting down roots had never really occurred to him, not when he lacked them even from the start. He caught Killian's nervous glance at the door and spoke without turning his head. "Don't worry, that window is unbarred. I could get both of us out of her before they could bust through the lock." He blinked then rolled his head to see the feline. "And if all else fails I have my lance." [break][break] He laughed softly at the Johney comment. "If I had only known before taking up Djinn. And I was being sarcastic Killian, you are anything but plain." His lips turned into a wry smile. "But I'm sure you know that. You don't get so many clients because you're ugly." Djinn had rolled atop him then. But it was an apology his words elicited from Killian and it made him frown. "You didn't offend me." He said softly, his hard gaze softening as he stared down at him. He could try to explain things such as his reluctance to make attachments, but would that not just make it worse? Or even draw pity. God he hated pity. Just seeing it in someone's eyes made him instantly want to vomit. [break][break] It was part of the reason why he didn't often walk among his own people. [break][break] And those words...damn the feline if he couldn't kill the chance at some good fun that would erase all chance for conversation. He growled when Killian tugged his lip but his grip on the nape of his neck was suddenly gone and in one fluid movement Djinn was up and off the bed. One hand waving almost accusingly at Killian. "You cant do that!" He nearly snapped, but it wasn't anger in his eyes but a desperation. Fear. "I never let you in Killian. I never let you in to shut you out." His lips pulled into a thin line as he stared down the sweet fae who he had indeed let his guard down for. It was just unfortunate that he had spoken of it. He was breathing quickly although if it was because of the hunger he felt for the man in the bed or the panic that went wild in his brain was a mystery. But slowly his arm fell and his tense shoulders sagged. [break][break] "You don't want in, Killian.....trust me. You don't want to meet my demons, 'boy'." He purposefully said 'boy' as if it were an insult. It wasn't. But it was time to push him back. He had been stupid to let it get this far. To tell him as much as he had. He closed his pale blue eyes and looked over toward the open window. By chance seeing the glint of a blade. "Get up." He said quickly but calmly and reached out to grab Killian's arm, attempting to drag him from the bed if he didn't move quickly enough. "Out the window, I can take care of whoever is standing watch outside." He hesitated and then reached out to squeeze one of Killian's shoulders reassuringly. "I've got you." Then nudged him toward the window. [break][break] They were loudly knocking on the door then and Djinn silently conjured his lance. The weapon that was longer than he was tall and made up of a glittering moving mass of black particles. "Damn! What is it?? I paid good money for this bed." He yelled toward the door that his back was turned to. The knocking got louder and he heaved theatrically. "So help me Sharon I told you I'm not coming home until you bathe! Its horrible!" If Killian was through the window at that point Djinn would follow him. Deftly making his way down with an easy jump, his lance catching earth before he did and absorbing the shock. "You alright?" He ask his companion quickly but his attention was already turning to the two men that were hurrying toward them with blades drawn.

He listened to him speak about the mountains and Killian found himself closing his eyes. A smile started to tug at the edges of his lips, soft and quiet. ”Maybe that is the change I need.” He didn’t elaborate what he would mean by it as he didn’t see the point. His prime goal was just to be rid of what made him be stuck with his old life. Be somewhere new whether it was a harsh environment or not. Didn’t matter. So was he glance towards the door after a moment. Was it for him to just run now and see if he could make it? Or was it because he knew they would be there shortly. He didn’t fully know himself and as Djinn spoke he said nothing in return. Part of him knew that Djinn meant well and yet the other side, the stubborn and rebellious feline he could be felt sheltered. He wasn’t broken. Not yet at least nor was he some delicate thing that should be handled with care and protected. He could deal with what punishments were given.
So was his life.
Eyes opened when he found that the fae had made his way on top of him and though part of him didn’t necessarily want to go down this route he most certainly wouldn’t say no. His time with Djinn was always what it was paid for and that was the end of it but this was new. This was… exciting. This was change. However, it seemed Djinn didn’t want him asking any more questions. He spoke honestly as that was a very Killian thing to do but it seemed the male fairy couldn’t handle it. He got off of him and slid off the bed. The feline rose up sitting on the edge of the mattress as he could see frustration rising. He said nothing though listening as he was scolded saying he couldn’t do that and that he would never be let in. That was probably the worst of it, more so than being called a boy.
There had always been a deep-rooted rage in Killian, one in which no one had the chance to fully see or drag out. As his cat bristled beneath his skin the look of the human didn’t change. Today would not be that day. A hiss was trying to make its way up his throat but he had almost as dignifiedly swallowed it back. The muscle in his jaw twitched as he took a moment, attempting to soothe the jungle cat who unsheathed claws waiting the ‘go ahead’. ”I’m not scared of you nor will I be.” He said coolly. His tone was even and calm not nearly reflecting his inner feline’s defensive gestures. His cat wanted to move forwards but the human merely made the large feline lay back down. To wait. Djinn was not the enemy nor would he ever be. He was merely desperate and he could see it. There was more to the man he saw in front of him that he was willing to tell the younger lad but that was okay. However… ” you don’t get to make those decisions for me. I have seen, heard, and been through more than you could ever imagine. Enough that should have broken me in the beginning. So I will be the judge of what I can’t handle, Sir.” the last word was hissed almost in defiance as he stabbed at him for being like the very men that bossed him around. That beat him. That told him he was nothing.
That was when there was pounding on the door and instinct told him to run. He was going to be caught but it wasn’t he who had made him move as it was Djinn who was dragging him to the feet and towards the window. Slipping out and over the edge, he made his way to the ground with ease about the same time Djinn was close behind him. Eyes for a moment were on the blade before shifting towards the men who were now running at them with blades drawn. There was no true out on this one and he knew it. Even if Djinn was successful in getting them taken care of more would come and of course, more would come after the fae. He didn’t need to burden his companion with his troubles after all….
This was not Djinn’s problem. This was Killian’s.
Lifting to his feet and straightening his posture, Killian stepped around the fae who guarded him. ”It’s alright.” He said as he placed a hand on his shoulder much like Djinn had with him upstairs. ”It’s been fun but I have run my course short. I’ll be fine…. As always.” He shot Djinn his most charismatic grin one that was hard to read by the professionalism he had behind it. ”Just go..” he nodded his head encouraging him to. ”Running would be detrimental as they are about as resilient as cockroaches.” He moved away from Djinn towards the men who met up with him the rest of the way and grabbed him roughly. He didn’t once look the Fae’s direction again instead the couple who had him were already attempting to tote him off as two others stayed behind to finish off – or try to --- Djinn.
