Eriu sat on one of the ledges of a small building, her legs dangling down as they swung back and forth. She looked down at the ground below, wondering when her friend Djinn was going to catch up. She sat there with almost the patience and laziness of a cat, a cheshire smile on her face as the fairy hummed in her head. It was quite a busy day in Cendra City, the many bustling people in the streets, and the many market vendors selling their wares as they talked amongst the crowd. Although, she was sitting in one of the more empty streets, an alley way in which no one walked upon. Clothing was lined from wall to wall, along with tarps and colorful fabric. The buildings were made from the usual creme colored clay, although the buildings ranged in height. The sunlight hung high over her head. It was a beautiful day in her mind. The skies were clear, hardly any clouds save for the tiny ones that dotted here and there. She continued to sit and wait, knowing that the other fae should arrive soon. Eriu wondered if there were any festivals here in Cendra. She was probably going to miss one in Niwetri, she just knew it. But then again, they always had festivals in Niwetri. She was gone for maybe only a little more than a week when she travelled with Djinn. She was sent on a task to scout and see if there was some sort of monster rumored to be in the Ruined City. While it seemed like this would be a concern of the human kingdom, or any other kingdom other than the fairies' for that matter, they believed that it was for the good of the treaty. It wasn't rare that forces of different races would join together, especially ever since the alliance was formed. But, maybe it was just something to give the swordsmen to do. However, Eriu was sent alone first, to see if the monster was even there. Of course, she didn't mind it. In fact, she rather enjoyed it. She had a chance to bring her good friend Djinn after all. She had always admired his noble cause, stealing from the rich to give to the poor. There was something heroic about it that always gave her inspiration. Even if he sometimes stole from the royals. But Eriu didn't mind. They could probably replace anything he stole anyway, in her opinion.
She continued to wait, and it seemed like a while until she saw him approaching. Eriu smiled with her mouth wide open in greeting. "Look what I found!" she exclaimed cheerfully. Reaching behind her she pulled out a bag of coins. "I took this from one of the guards. He was mean. Bullying a few homeless kids on the street," she said, tossing it to Djinn before even waiting to see if he would catch it. "But... I didn't do anything else to him..." she pouted pensively. There wasn't much she could do. He was a guard of Cendra, and if she did try to do anything to him it would break the law of the swordsman. Although she would have normally yelled at him though, which was something she thought about doing. But the huge pouch of money was just dangling behind him so obviously. She couldn't miss the chance to take it.
"I don't know where he is now though," she said, looking up in the air. She snatched it and ran. But she hoped that Djinn may be able to give it to those poor kids.
She then looked to the side surprisingly as she heard a few guards approaching. "Here you are!" one of them bellowed. "Thieves! That one stole my pouch!" he exclaimed, pointing directly at the fae that sat on the roof. "Seize them!" The guards approached closer, and a few seemed to have recognized the male. "And that one stole from many others! He was the one we were looking for!" They all then started running towards the two.

Djinn had been having a look around town. He had accompanied Eriu on some mission to kill a monster or something…he hadn’t paid much attention. But it wasn’t as if he had any reason not to stretch his legs a little and traveling with Eriu was anything but boring. They had parted a few hours before. Djinn had went looking for a coat he could lift that would conceal his wings and Eriu had went…hell if he knew. Once he had found a coat and taken a look alone he was strolling casually along when he noticed her up on a low building ledge and with a roll of his eyes and a graceful almost weightlessness known to his kind he bounded up onto the ledge to plop down lazily beside her.
He smiled at her enthusiastic greeting and snatched the bag of coin out of the air before it could sail past him. Reaching down he died it to his belt with deft fingers. Blue eyes flicking up to her as she told the story of how she came across it. He didn’t like the idea of a guard bullying children in the least. He would have to think of a way to use the coin for some of the children of Cendra. It wasn’t as if they could keep anything of value on their person without it being stolen or beaten out of them. Maybe he could make a large fancy meal and dole it out to them….it would take some thinking.
”I’ll look into it.” He said with a careless easy smile even as the wheels turned in his mind. He was swinging his legs back and forth in the air with all the care of a child when the angry voices reached them. He chewed idly on his nail and stared down at them then looked over at Eriu and down to his finger. After spitting away the tiny piece of nail that clung to his lips he spoke. ”That the ass that was picking on the kids?” He ask her. Completely ignoring the presence of all he angry men.
His left hand stretched out and a long bladed staff suddenly appeared. The dark particles rolling and moving like the cells of a living beast. ”You’re losing your touch Eriu. Letting them track you like this.” His voice was chiding but there was a smile on his thin lips.

"Yeah," she nodded in confirmation. That was the mean guard alright, although she didn't expect him to come here, nevertheless to find them. "I'm not!" she pouted lightly. "I was just thinking we could talk to him about being nice to those kids," she said, standing upright on the small roof. She then looked at the approaching, running at them at incredible speed. That was when realization hit her. She looked at Djinn. "Wait... they can't get up here right?" she asked, but at that very moment, one of the guards shot lightening from his spear, appearing to have some sort of magic. Luckily the fae just barely dodged the attack, looking as if she were striking some bizarre pose. Her eyes then moved back to the other fairy's again. "Guess not," she laughed nervously. The guards then reached the wall, screaming up at them from where they stood.
"Surrender!" the mean one called. "Or else face the punishment!" Without waiting for an answer, the guards were already making their way toward where they had sat, the one magical guard continuing to shoot lighting in the direction of the two. Eriu jumped as the bolts were headed directly toward them, looking at Djinn fearfully for an answer. "What do we do?" she asked all too quickly. Another bolt landed by her feet, and immediately the fairy took into the air, flying as she dodged the magic that seemed to be aiming for her at the moment. Though as she flew through the air she could she Djinn down below, and she looked at him worriedly. The other guards and the ground seemed to be inching near him, almost reaching where he was. "Djinn!" she called out. Another lightning bolt she barely dodged. She could almost feel the electric current fly past her through the air.
"How do we talk to them peacefully?" she then called out to him, although it seemed to be inevitable at the moment. She took another moment to think about it, before flying closer toward him again. "Need some help?" she called, if he wanted a ride into the sky or fighting on the ground, she would readily assist.

Djinn looked at her pointedly. "Well I made it up here Eriu. So I wouldn't assume its impossible for them." His pale eyes moved to the man with the staff, watching as the electric bolt shot from its tip. He knew Eriu could take care of herself so he didn't bother to tell her to move. She wasn't a fool. But as the guards moved closer the attacks came faster and Djinn sighed, raking a hand back through his hair in annoyance. Eriu took to the sky to avoid the attacks that mostly appeared to be aimed for her. The one that struck near him caused Djinn to roll his eyes. "If your aim is that horrible at least we never have to worry about you reproducing." As agile as a cat his kicking his foot out so that he would drop to ground in front of the men.
He crouched to absorb the drop and looked up at Eriu where she hovered nervously. "Don't worry love, I'll take care of them. Wouldn't want any trouble to come your way. I don't think peaceful is what they have in mind." While still looking up at Eriu and seemingly preoccupied he suddenly moved. The action almost to quick to catch. His lance suddenly striking out in a sweeping strike that would knock several helmet clad heads together. "Fly!" He called to her and roughly elbowed a man in the side that grabbed at him as he passed. His long legs quickly carried him past the men. His lance taking a glancing blow from a bolt that shot at him. It sizzled and cracked but absorbed the blow without disintegrating, it would take much more than that.
Djinn could run quickly. His feet eating up the beaten bath beneath them and increasing the space between him and the guards. He had no intention of killing anyone today but he did plan to return to plague a certain guard. Just maybe not when he had all his merry men with him.

To give up who you are, I'll live without your face, your smile, regret it more than dying, and dying so young She looked down as the man nimbly jumped down into the swarm of guards. The fae almost flew down to help him, but as he spoke she halted in the air, nodding but had a worried look on her face. "Alright," she agreed, before taking to the skies again. She hoped that he could make it on his own.
The guards chased after the two fae, but it was made difficult because one was in the air and the other was fast on the ground. The large guard slowed, halting the other men. He looked at them with malice in his eyes. "We need to stop them! Call the mages! Bring them here and don't let them escape!" He continued to stand there as the others barked orders, calling over the other guards to fetch the magic makers. His arms were placed over his chest. He wouldn't let them get away with this. This is the last time someone would know to steal from him.
Eriu made her way into the sky, nearly up into the clouds as she could see. The sun was even worse up here, she could feel her eyes beginning to burn. Once she thought she was out of range of the lightening bolts, she turned around, seeing the city far below from a bird's eye view. She sure hoped that Djinn would be ok. If only she had magic far more useful than enhancement, then she could see where he is. She squinted her eyes, flying downward toward the city again. They must have lost the guards, she supposed. Upon a closer look, she noticed someone surrounded by bright colors. Well that was strange. She flew to get a closer look, but at that moment, the colors were headed in her direction!
Without a moment to react, she was hit by the attack, a bright green clouding her vision before she could feel herself plummeting toward the ground below. |

Djinn was focusing on running. Vaulting over carts and obstacles, spinning to avoid slamming into pedestrians. But this was his element. He was completely at home running for his life. One had to learn how to run when they couldn't fly. There was a sudden loud cracking sound that made his steps falter. Blue eyes flicking back to see a mage looking up at the sky just before a burst of color tore through the air. "Fuck." He didn't know what type of magic it was, but it didn't look good. "Eriu!" He called and gave a guard that had caught up to him a hard elbow to the back of his head after evading his blade. But he was too late. The ball of magic slammed into her and sent the fairy spiraling toward the ground. [break][break] His mind began to speed through his options. Ways to cushion her fall. Thankfully she was barely behind him but up so freaking high. Panic surged in his chest and forced him into action. Running he took a leap and snatched at a low hanging gutter. Gripping it he pulled himself up. Feet rising to push against the stone building as his hands found holds. Before long he was on the roof of the two story building and scrambling to the side that Eriu was falling toward. But not quite...she was going to miss it. Several curses fell from his lips as he scrambled. His feet kicking small plates that had been overlapped to waterproof the roof to the street below. A few striking guards, a few striking innocents. [break][break] And then she was so close. So damn close. His nub of a wing jerked painfully and his good wings struggled against the binding that held them firmly against his torso. Long limps carrying him where they couldn't he lept from the edge of the roof with arms outstretched to catch the little blonde fae. As soon as he snatched her in his arms he tried to catch them with his legs on a nearby overhang. But with the added weight he didn't have enough control. They spiraled quickly toward the earth only to be saved by a slow moving hay cart that absorbed their fall. Djinn didn't bother to speak to the cart owner or the guards that were on their tails. [break][break] "Eriu! Eriu!" He wriggled out from beneath her and grasp her shoulders. Shaking her in his attempt to wake her.

To give up who you are, I'll live without your face, your smile, regret it more than dying, and dying so young Her head was dizzy, eyesight viewing nothing but endless swirls of colors. She couldn't tell what sort of attack hit her, but it did its damage anyway. Feeling her head spinning, she could feel something soft that she landed on. The rest was just a haze, but soon when they both fell into the cart she came back to her senses. Her eyes fluttered open, feeling the bumpy ride beneath her. Her eyesight still was still adjusting to the light though. From what it seemed she saw Djinn's face.
"I see stars..." she mumbled. Was this the will of the God of Cosmos? Her mind still wasn't all together yet. She continued to lay there, her head spinning. What sort of attack was that? Whatever it was, it seemed to disorient her, although she really couldn't make out much of what was currently happening. But all she knew was that it was bumpy and uncomfortable.
"There they are!" yelled another approaching guard. "You there, stop!" two approaching from ahead of the cart called. The unfortunate driver tossed the reins high in the air from surprise, turning abruptly as the horse neighed. Eriu could feel herself being tossed around, landing on the other side just barely falling off. She placed a hand into her frizzed blonde hair, feeling more awakened than before. She tried to shake the dizzy feeling away.
"Djinn?" she questioned, looking at him in surprise. What was he doing here? The last time she remembered she was in the sky, then something hit her. Oh yeah, that mage. Did he catch her fall? "You saved me?" But then, another abrupt turn from the driver, causing her to slide to the other side. It seemed that the guards were coming from all over the place, the driver having no control over the horse.
She looked over the side, seeing the guards in all sorts of directions. There was an incoming line of hanging cloth coming up. Her head gazed in Djinn's direction. "Hold my hand," she said. When the cart quickly approached, another guard with a long spear poked it toward her, but the fae took off into the air, nearly missing it. If Djinn took her hand she would toss him onto the clothing line. Hopefully he would be able to hang onto it. |

Djinn turned to see the guards. His pale eyes narrowing at the men that just didn't know when to give up. The rough toss of the cart that sent him tumbling to the opposite side caused him to yelp and go rigid when his injured remainder of a wing was hit. It was like a shock to his system that made his teeth lock together and his back arch. But thankfully it was short lived and after a couple long breaths he was able to move again, if sore. "Nice hair." He tossed at Eriu and nodded that he was indeed Djinn. "Sorry if you were expecting someone else, love. Its just me." At the comment about saving her he shrugged uneasily. "Nah, just wanted to try flying one last time." He smirked but another toss of the car made him suddenly grapple for the railing. Not wanting another repeat of the first thump against his back. [break][break] The horse was frantic and running mad through the street. His mind was moving quickly as he tried to think of a plan but apparently not as fast as Eriu's. When she offered her hand he took it without hesitation. The toss landing him so that his arms snatched at the clothes line. The rope burning his palms. His strapped down wings fluttered uselessly against his back as he began to work his way to one side of the line. Hand over hand despite the burning in his palms. It was better to move than end up a pinata for the eager guards below. [break][break] Once he reached a building he skittered up the wall with all the tact of a spider. His hands and feet finding drips as sure as any arboreal beast. "I hope you have a plan!" He called up to Eriu as he climbed.

To give up who you are, I'll live without your face, your smile, regret it more than dying, and dying so young Well, at least that worked. They weren't on the cart anymore, so that was good. She couldn't see the horse anymore as it ran about in the street. The poor thing. She turned to Djinn, hovering in the air as she flew toward him. Eriu didn't think much of the plan after he grabbed the clothing line. Pink wings fluttering in the air she landed onto the building alongside him, looking down as the guards approached from down below. She could escape easily, but what about him? The fae turned her head to the side, they were close to the fortress wall of Cendra. They could make it out of the city, but, they couldn't go back... Well, not that they could just call it a day and go back to the inn. The guards would be searching for them if not having caught them already. It was their only chance. They could head to the Fallen City Ruins afterwards. It was her destination anyway, but what about those kids? Who was going to return the money to them? Were they really just going to leave them to starve like that...?
"Over there!" she pointed to the same wall. There was now a single guard walking across it, but they could probably get past him. There were only a few buildings in between, she could probably help him get across if she could grab him in time. But that was when her attention turned back down toward the guards below. "Take this!" she heard. A group of children were down there, throwing stones at the guards. It was those same kids!
"No! Don't!" she called out to them, but now the guards irritatedly turned toward them, shoving their spears in their direction. She turned to Djinn hurriedly. "We just can't leave them!" she pleaded. "There has to be someway we can get the guards somewhere else," she thought, her head moving side to side as she looked for a solution. She couldn't think of anything! What could they do...? |

Eventually Djinn made it to the roof of the building he had been climbing, all the while Eriu fluttered nearby. He grunted and straightened his back. Blue eyes flicking to the wall she gestured at. Really? This...this was why he didn't stay around many of his own kind. Things were a hell of a lot harder when the people you were with couldn't fly. At this point Djinn was dead weight. "Seriously?" He ask. But at the sound of a guards voice and then the cries and thrown rocks from the children he moved over to that side of the roof. Peering down at the ruckus below.
"Damn kids." He mumbled. Foolish. What they were doing was so dangerous for them. But they couldn't very well have a battle royal in the street either. That would end in bloodshed. Likely their own and any innocents that got caught in the crossfire. But then a though hit him and Djinn reached down to grab the small bag tied at his hip. Holding it out he turned to Eriu. "I think its time we give back."
"It's raining gold!!" He yelled loud enough to get the attention of peasants and denizens that wandered the street. Suddenly he forced his lance to appear and sliced the bag so that it would rain down coins over top the guards and children. The people nearby started forcing their way into the melee. The children were snatching coins. The guards were helpless and their calls to back away went unheeded.
Suddenly Djinn spun away from the edge of the roof and called up at the pink winged fae. "Now we run! Or...fly." And then he took off toward the wall, knowing that the woman could simply fly herself there. It took some long jumps where his lanky frame came in handy. His long limbs giving him that extra distance needed to stretch between the buildings. But eventually he reached the outer wall of the city and took another massive leap. It took some scrambling that was less than graceful but he eventually managed to squirm until he fell over and landed on his feet on the opposite side. Throwing himself into a roll to reduce the impact he sent his eyes to the sky to watch for his companion.

To give up who you are, I'll live without your face, your smile, regret it more than dying, and dying so young She looked on with astonishment as the golden coins fell to the floor. What a smart idea! Eriu had barely any time to react before she was told to run... or fly in her case. Nodding quickly, she took off into the sky. "If you feel like you're going to fall call my name!" she said, flying ahead just in case there were any more guards ahead. They had to be quick. The guards were distracted down below, but they might catch up soon. Fortunately those kids were going to get back what they deserved. Pink wings sparkled through the sky as they fluttered, and she occasionally looked back to see if Djinn was doing ok.
Building after building, she glided over. So far, no guards. Other than the one that was on the outer wall of course. But he seemed distracted for the moment. She assumed that they could probably get past him, going at the speed they were going. She continued to fly, although this time faster. The exit was right ahead, that was their escape! Her eyes just focused on the incoming trees that surrounded the outskirts of the city, but that guard was still there.
As she approached he suddenly turned around, seeing her come directly at him. "Excuse me!" she yelled, landing right into him as she forcefully pushed his helmet over his head before jumping over his shoulders to escape. The guard fumbled with his helmet for a moment, before suddenly realizing what happened. He turned around to face where the fae had flew, peering his head over the edge of the wall. Leaning with one hand and placing a cursing fist in the air, he did not see anything incoming from behind him, leaving him vulnerable for attack, or escape past him. |
