Aside from the basic abilities of all mages and extremely limited precognition in battle, Renata is a master of the element of air. She is able to both forecast the weather, and forestall and bring down all forms of precipitation, earning her the moniker "Stormbringer" in her travels. She can also hear the wind, which can tell her what is ahead of her and if there is someone nearby. She can also control lightning to a certain degree, which often lead to her shocking people as a child. Renata can also call down an extremely powerful tornado or hurricane, though this exhausts her; furthermore, she is capable of a limited flying and levitation ability. Lastly, she can harden the air around her or someone else to form a protective shield from projectiles.

Renata is rather petite, standing at barely 5' 5'', but makes up for it in her sheer presence. With brown hair on the long side that she tends to keep up and out of the way, and bright dark eyes, Renata hasn't missed the fact she is easy on the eyes in a long time. As a busy protector of the school, she often wears various tunics or robes for practicality, but isn't shy about picking flattering pieces. In addition, Renata always carries a set of long knives on her belt. She has a black tattoo of lightning arcing up her left forearm, causing her to wrap a bandage around it whenever among non-Mages, and a short, pale scar, cutting through her left eyebrow - a gift from when her parents were killed by humans.

Renata is, above all else, extremely protective of her own. Lledrith School's scouts saved her from the same death that came to her parents, and in return, she is determined to protect both the residents of the school and any other Mages she meets. In addition, while, never a fan of education in the classroom beyond gaining control over her own powers, she is very inclined towards politics, to keep an eye out for anti-Mage sentiment if nothing else. She is also charismatic, tending to gain attention whenever she enters the room, and is an eloquent speaker in public with a tendency towards to sarcasm.

She has a soft spot for children, whatever the race, but is very much wary of the adults of any race. However, Renata is extremely adaptable on the battlefield, doing whatever it takes to win - her definition of it, anyway - but off it, is criminally stubborn, wary of outsiders and non-Mages, especially humans. Towards those she trusts, though, she would do whatever it took to help them if they were in danger, and inside the school, is known for her her compassion towards students and willingness to go along with harmless pranks and to cut them some slack in class.

Renata barely remembers her parents, who were killed when she was barely three years old by xenophobic humans, after a drought where they lived resulted in mass starvation. While her mother had some latent abilities relating to air, and her father able to communicate with animals, neither of them had much training or were particularly strong; as a result, they were unable to defend themselves or their daughter when the local population turned on them. Thankfully, there was a scout in the area who was able to take her to Lledrith School. Renata has lived at the school all her life, with the few close friends she's made living there. Her childhood was relatively peaceful, with no attacks on the school, and she was able to gain control of her powers in peace - though this often led to some interesting changes in air pressure during puberty, when her temper would occasionally get the better of her.

Renata did not become aware of her sexuality until she was seventeen, after two failed dates with classmates; when they attempted to kiss her - while she was, initially, receptive to the idea - she felt almost grossed out each time, but still kept romantic feelings for them. After much discussion with the school counselor and nurse at the time, she managed the courage to come out, and has been single since, as much due to her priorities with the school as anything else.

Renata has known her abilities since she was very young, and only realized her ambition to gain the position she has now after a brief attack on the school when she was sixteen. No one was seriously hurt and damage was easily repaired, but it made her realize that she never wanted to be helpless when someone attacked her home ever again. Thereafter, she worked hard to master her abilities, finally gaining her mastery when she was twenty-three by successfully redirecting and calming an imminent hurricane about to ravage a coastal village. Nowadays, she helps out with the children in the school's care when not keeping a wary eye on local politicking or the school's protections.

Since Renata was first brought to Lledrith School, she has been accompanied by a Dire Wolf answering to Caryn, who is very twitchy towards strangers who come near her mistress.

Renata has a slight tendency to give people light electric shocks if they piss her off,  particularly in the morning, which she is never a fan of.
