His boots crunched in the snow as he hopped off of the cart he had rented with two well-built steads to help him cart the materials he had bought. The person he had luckily rented off of was a friend of his so it was fairly dirt cheap for so many days. Since he had no horse of his own at the point and time the cart came in handy even if it made him feel like an old woman also. His breath steamed out from between his lips as he took a quick look at the property checking to see if he saw anything… as usual still no signs of Solara or of life.
His sister had been gone for days. It was unusual for her but he supposed she was entitled to do whatever the hell it was she wanted. He wasn’t her keeper. She didn’t need one and hadn’t needed one before he came along. As it were she was the one helping him out. She gave him material to build on his own house on her land and was even willing to pay him to help her fix up the ranch and train horses whenever that got back on the train. However she was gone, he was bored, and had little to no income coming in still. He picked up random jobs here and there where he could. Chasing a horse, training, fixing, hauling… He did what he could and it was enough to keep food in his and Branwen’s stomachs and bought some material here and there.
The wind was icy against the bits of skin that were exposed but he didn’t plan on staying out there that long. He wasn’t dressed for it and the sun would be falling relatively soon. He was just wanting to get the things out on the property in his makeshift, poorly made structure so he could come back and work on it later --- like tomorrow. Lucky for him no one seemed stupid enough to be doing much out on the property snooping around but most knew Solara and most didn’t dare reckon with the forceful charm she had. He had to hand it to her she was respected enough that most people just left her alone…. Of course, the location was nice too and well out of the way also.
Yanking the tarp back he lugged picking up the pieces of material he did have and started placing them inside the small shack that would hold them for now. It didn’t take long and about half way through he heard hooves approaching. Stepping outside the shack his green eyes squinted a bit against the brightly lit snow to see two black figures atop horses. They didn’t look exactly friendly and so shutting the door behind him he stepped towards the cart ready to pull something out from the back and whack them with it if they decided to get gruff. ”Oh heeey, we sure didn’t find her but we found the wolf-lover.” one of them hooted at the other. ”Why I reckon we did.”
Enzo quietly arched a brow as he stood there watching them atop their horses. The poor things looked run to death needing a break as they were ancy enough to keep dancing around not holding still and wanting their riders off. ”Pardon?” He inquired. He clearly knew who they were talking about but he was going to play dumb for the sake of not saying anything else. ”Yeah you know, that pretty little thing that goes by the name Branwen.” A sick grin plastered itself on the man’s lips showing all five teeth he had in his mouth. ”Yeah she gave our buddy a little love bite and we were coming to pay our…. Dues.” The way they spoke the last word caused Enzo to bristle a little. She was by no means rightfully his but he sure couldn’t help but feel ire strike in his blood. ”Yeah. Yeah! Have you seen her around, wolf-lover?”
”Enzo.” he warned. ”And no I have not. Look if you two gentlemen don’t mind, I’d like to finish my project and get on my way. If you are looking for her you are looking to the wrong person.” He leaned his arm on the side of the wagon ready to reach in and grab the shovel he knew was right there. If anything he could at least knock one off their horse. ”Oh I think we found the right person alright. Why are you hiding that murderer, boy? Don’t you know she eats people?”
Surely not his Branwen. She was different now. Not that they knew that nor could he tell them he knew where she was or had any associations. ”You’ll be next you know.” One said and then the other shushed him. ”If you see her.. Tell her we are looking for her and we WILL find her.” With a strong heaving kick to their horse's sides causing the steed to blow out air harshly they kicked off and headed off into the distance. ”We’ll have her pelt before the weeks end!”
It left a rather bitter taste in his mouth and a head full of questions swarming around like bees. He would have to be careful heading back to the Tavern to be sure he wasn’t followed. Once through, he locked the shack back up and headed back towards town and the tavern, taking long enough with several stops to destinations in between to be sure he wasn’t followed. Dropping the cart back off he walked back the couple or so blocks to the tavern. He wasn’t sure where Branwen was but needless to say he was going to be asking her what had been going on.
Stepping inside he shut the door behind him. ”Bran?” Branwen Colworthy

Branwen was starting over. There was no other way to put it. Enzo had given her a second chance by erasing so many of her dark memories. Things she couldn’t get over no matter how hard she had tried. But now she had that chance to move on, and she was using it. Enzo was off at the ranch and if she had a chance she would join him later to help out. She knew little about the actual work but she was a werewolf and rather strong because of it. She could help him unload or stack wood if need be.
But first things first. The small tavern in the town they were staying in was understaffed, Branwen hoped that maybe she could work her way into one of those positions. She ran a brush through her long umber hair and stepped out into the sunlight, immediately flinching she rubbed her eyes until she found the shadows again. Her eyes had bothered her worse lately. Being even more sensitive than before, blurrier. But perhaps it was just the natural progression of her vision. She had known it was coming, she just hoped she would be at least an old woman when she lost her sight but the way it was going…she wouldn’t be.
She stepped into the bar and after a brief word with a barmaid she was able to speak with the owner. ”Here, lets take a seat so we can speak.” He said with a kind smile and gestured toward a table in the corner. Bran gave him a smile and followed him. Sitting down in the booth when he gestured for her too. Surprisingly instead of siting across from her he sat down beside her. ”So ye is looking for work? Whats a pretty little thing like yerself capable of?”
Immediately Branwen felt awkward and scooted as close to the wall away from him as she could. The question was strange but the man was not exactly ‘normal’. ”Umm…I was a bartender and a barmaid a few months ago. I’ve been out of work and I’m looking to-“ Her voice cut off abruptly. Blue eyes flicking down to see the hand that he had lain on her thigh. ”See the question is how bad ye really want that job…” He said with a smile, his fingers slipping upward and beneath her skirt.
There was no hesitation. With a sudden loud snarl she gave the man a hard shove. Knocking him onto his side out of the booth. She climbed out of the booth, intentionally stepping on his hand as she did so. ”Not that bad.” She growled at him and headed for the door. She could see a wide smile on the barmaid’s face. Turning she caught sight of Enzo and stopped in her tracks. He said her name like a question, as if she had done something wrong. She looked behind her at the man on the floor and then back to Enzo then stepped forward to grasp his hand. Pulling him with her out of the tavern and onto the street, then into the shadows to keep her eyes from throbbing.
She immediately pushed him back against one of the walls of the small alley and leaned in to place a brief kiss on his lips. Grinning mischievously before stepping back to give him a little space. ”Did something happen? You’re not usually back this early.” She gestured to the tavern. ”I don’t think I will be getting the job I was hoping for though, I’m sorry….I know I haven’t been pulling my weight.” And it bothered her. She had always been independent. To depend on someone to feed and cloth her was a big change.

He wasn’t sure which one shocked him more. The fact that he had men coming to him asking about Branwen and saying she had recently given their friend a love bite or the fact that she now had a man on the ground stomping on his hand not allowing him to get up. His green eyes were focused on her and though he tried hard to not look accusatory it slipped a little into the way he said her name. She seemed to come back to the realization of what she was doing. Immediately hampering off from the fallen man and grabbed him by his own tugging him out of the tavern and back out into the cold.
Surely this wasn’t what they were talking about. Surely this was just a coincidence of what he had been told. But everything seemed to suddenly be coinciding with one another now. Was he scared of her? No, but he probably should be. The rumors were becoming true right before his very eyes and he was just now seeing it? Had the darkness crept up that quickly? She pulled him into a dark corner of the alley and shoved him towards a wall planting a kiss right on his lips which he eagerly took though it was a little hesitant. He was still bewildered with what he had heard and what he had seen. His green eyes rested on her pale ones as she stepped back just enough for him to clearly see her face better. He gave her a small smile but it was one that obviously stated he had something on his mind. Her question had him nodding. ”I wasn’t doing any work on it today.” he said. ”I was just dropping some stuff off.” He didn’t fully like all the space between them and immediately found his hands looking to rest somewhere on her body whether it was her sides or hips, arms, it didn’t matter as the touch was almost a reassurance she wasn’t just going to dissolve into some black shadow right in front of him.
She wasn’t bad. Branwen was a good person just mixed up with poor choices. Poor choices didn’t make bad people.
A soft but forced chuckle escaped him, fiddling with the material of her clothing for a moment. He cleared his throat and shifted his weight on his feet again. ”n-no I don’t think they take kindly to being stepped on.” His expression turned worried. ”Why were you manhandling him, Bran?” he questioned. ”Are you---….. okay? I mean you know not having any problems?” He felt silly prodding around like that but he didn’t want to accuse her of having any control over her wolf. He couldn’t be too careful after all. How was he supposed to help her if she was going to try and eat him?
He suddenly felt his heart drop to his stomach. ….. He really shouldn’t think like that.

He returned the kiss but there was a hesitance there, something was obviously on his mind. She had stepped back then to give him space, her hands sliding up his arms when they sat loosely on her hips. "I see. If you need help I'm here. You know I don't mind." He laughed but it sounded strange. Bran rubbed her thumb over his arm and waited for him speak. Hoping that he would let her in on what he was thinking.
But then it all came out in one nervous gust of questions. "I..problems?" She frowned. She wasn't proud of who she had been. She was aware it wasn't good. That she had been pretty messed up. But it sounded like Enzo thought she was slipping back because of what he saw in the tavern. Her grip on his arms loosened but she didn't let him go. She could understand his worries. His concern. But it hurt because she had been doing so well, trying so hard. Even in there she hadn't killed that man...she had before for something akin to that gesture.
"The tavern owner put his hand under my skirt, thats why I acted that way in there. He wanted me to be with him if I wanted the job. I turned him down, obviously." Branwen chewed on her lip and rubbed one of his arms warily. "I'm not relapsing or something like that...really. You worry too much." Bran allowed her pale eyes to linger on his face, she had never thought she would be back in this state of mind again. Not after her humanity had been torn asunder so by her wolf. But here she was, in control again. And she would fight tooth and nail to keep it that way.
Branwen reached out to pluck a little splinter from his shirt, still appearing slightly concerned. "Have a done anything else to worry you like this? I thought I was doing so well..." She rolled her lips between her teeth. "I mean I am doing well. That's the first person I've put my hands one other than you since you..." Her voice faded away, a soft frustrated growl creeping from her throat. "You believe me...right?"

That was always his big problem wasn’t it? He let his head get ahead of himself without really thinking things through but Branwen worried him. What she did when she was under that trance she was put under – at least he thought it was some kind of charmed entrapment – she was not herself. But did he really know her well enough to call a bluff on that? Maybe she was some kind of beast inside and the other man had just unlocked that side of her? However, if that were true why didn’t she enjoy it? Why was she so tortured about the prospect of finally unlocking her true potential? That to him was the real key. Had she been who she wanted to be she wouldn’t have been so miserable, she wouldn’t want to do good instead of wrong. Her pale eyes were looking into his and though she didn’t physically pull away, he could feel the distance starting to sink in. He immediately grabbed her hips not wanting her to pull too far.
He couldn’t let her sink. Even if it were untrue or maybe it was he wouldn’t let her go down alone again. Not this time.
He listened to what she said and he slowly nodded his head before furrowing his brows. He wasn’t a man who often showed aggression but oddly enough when it came to the idea of men taking women’s bodies as though it were owed to them, it was a tough pill for him to swallow. ”Then he deserved every bit you gave him.” but then flashing her a smile and a tip of his head though the worry still obviously reflected in his green eyes. ”I wouldn’t have stopped at the hand though.” Lifting one hand he brought it to her cheek tucking locks of wavy brown hair behind her ear even as she said he worried too much. Maybe she was right. He had to have a bit more faith in the situation after all. ”But if you were having a problem you would tell me right?” he said. ”Not saying you are but… you know if you ever did.” He lowered his hand for a moment as she was now picking some wood off of his shirt. Her question had him shaking his head now and he sighed quietly. ”No not you, per say.” He started. ”When I was at the ranch a couple of men were looking for you.” it was nothing really surprising he had encountered plenty of people from her past when she went on her wolf maddened hunts. ”However this time it was different. They said it was recently.”
Or so how they were playing it. ”They said you had given a ‘love bite’ to a buddy of theirs and well obviously they weren’t very happy. Have you been in wolf form or anything?” He wasn’t trying to accuse and he was really hoping she wasn’t seeing it as that he was more trying to figure out if maybe it wasn’t actually her. She’d been with him most of the time and most nights she was curled up with him in bed. ”I believe you..” or well he wanted to believe her but he still had a little bit of doubt. ”I just want to get the whole story. If I have to kill a motherfucker, I will.” or he will at least try. ”But I also need communication too. I hear one thing but see another. Do you get me?” he asked softly. ”I just want to know everything if there is anything else. You know?” he would assume she would want the same thing if the shoe were on the other foot here. Wouldn’t she want to know if he was with another girl or something stupid like that? Instead of pointing fingers and accusing saying she did it, she would just want to ask. He hoped she wasn’t upset with him for being careful but well it was all he had left in this situation.

He caught her hips and the action drew her gaze back to him. When he tucked a few locks of her wild umber mane behind her ear she closed her eyes and nuzzled into the touch. Opening them again so that she could meet his gaze. ”I would tell you, Enzo. I promise.” She didn’t want to sink back into that beast she had been. Killing so indiscriminately, torn apart because one facet of her soul was darker than another. His hand dropped away from her cheek and Branwen watched him, her form stiffening when he said men were looking for her. It hadn’t been so long since she had been a plague on these lands. Stealing bodies to fill her stomach. Killing just for the thrill. But she had that under control now.
She frowned and shook her head. ”Enzo I haven’t-“ She fell silent and looked down at the space between them. Her brows furrowing in thought. She couldn’t remember shifting. She was fairly certain she hadn’t. And she knew she hadn’t bitten anyone…right? ”I haven’t shifted since you helped me.” She said softly, still obviously troubled by what he was telling her. ”At least I don’t remember doing it. But…I’ve been with you during the night. You would have noticed if I disappeared, right?” Her words were worried, she needed to convince not only Enzo but also herself of her innocence. She wasn’t that person anymore, she refused to be.
Branwen felt her heart racing, hearing about this was like hearing that some darkness had returned to taint her soul. Surely she hadn’t fallen back into old habits? And she should at least remember if she did. ”They want to kill me..” She said softly. If it came to that point would killing them push her over the edge? She would obviously bite and play with Enzo but nothing extreme. But what if she needed to defend herself? What if she tore flesh from bone?
Hearing Enzo say that he would kill someone forced Branwen to shake her head no, one hand moving upward to rest against his cheek. ”No. Not for me. I can fight my own battles and I will not pull you down with me.” It was his statement that to her sounded as if she had done something wrong that made Branwen’s shoulders sink. ”I didn’t know that I had done something wrong.” She said carefully. She had already explained the bar incident to him. What else had there been?
”It sounds like we need to talk to them.” She said quietly. Trying to hide the disappointment in her voice. She understood his suspicion. His concern. But it still hurt. Especially when she had been trying so hard.

The look she gave him was somewhere between worried and confused so he would chalk it up to being either unknowingly doing it or it wasn’t her at all. She nuzzled his hand and he did his best to only steal glances towards her eyes. His power was a little better since learning a thing or two but too long of a gaze could send the both of them in a disorienting predicament. Right now was not the time for one. Entering her mind once was enough. A simple nod was given as his hand dropped but she still remained contact with his body and one of his hands still on her hip. ”Is it possible to shift without you knowing it though?” He had heard of force shifts before but somehow that didn’t seem like an ‘i didn’t know it was happening’ type of situation. He imagined you would feel it coming and have no control to stop it.
Unless she was lying to him….
He blinked his green eyes a few moments and pulled his other hand from her hip now, chewing on her lip looking a little uncomfortable. He didn’t want to believe that. She had been doing great why would she lie to him about it? Why did he even let his mind go that way in the first place? Branwen wasn’t like that… she wouldn’t lie…. ”I would like to think I would but it depends how deep in sleep I am in I guess.” He said looking at her pale ones for a moment. ”Cause that would be the only time you wouldn’t notice right? If you were asleep?” but maybe she fell asleep on one of the mornings he headed out? Perhaps she didn’t notice it then. His brain felt like it was stuck between a rock and a hard place and he found himself rubbing his temples a little. He could take the pressure. In fact, his power put a lot of pressure on his head anyways what with days of migraines and random nose bleeds? But this whole confusion, his worry for Branwen's safety it was enough to feel like bricks landing on top of his head and sinking him into the ground.
She repeated his words and his eyes dropped from hers now but he didn’t nod or shake his head. He clearly remembered them saying the would have her pelt by the end of the week. He doubted it, truthfully but it was clear on what their intent was. She told him that he wouldn’t get drug down with her and he snorted at her. It wasn’t often his unruly ways got in the mix of things. He liked to believe himself to be level headed but he was still a man. Despite her obviously having more fight in her than he did that didn’t make him useless. He still had the urge like any other male out there to provide and protect. ”I’m apart of it so I am already in your battles whether you like it or not.” stubbornly he stared at her. He knew she could handle herself, he had seen it. He had also been on the butt end of her ‘handling’ herself. The weight of the issue was starting to settle on her shoulders now and carefully he pulled her towards him. ”We’ll figure it out. Maybe it wasn’t you. Its entirely likely they are just trying to stir up problems.” He wasn’t sure if talking to them would be all that brilliant of an idea. They seemed like they weren’t the talking type of gentlemen. If they saw her it was likely they would want to strike her down. ”I doubt words will ease they gentlemen. They seemed convinced.”

The last bits of contact fell away leaving her feeling vulnerable. Her shoulders rose in a small shrug when he asked it if was possible. She didn't know...she didn't know much of anything at this point. Like why this was happening when she had been trying so hard to do things right. Why it felt like Enzo doubted her. She thought they were close, he had done so much for her. But to feel like he didn't trust her made her chest ache. "I don't know." She said warily when he again asked about her shifting without knowing. "I don't think most people had issues like I've had.... it's not like I really have anyone to ask. We could speak with my father but..." Branwen frowned and rubbed her arm. "I don't really want him to know what’s going on. He would just worry."
Enzo refused to let her carry this burden alone and somehow it made it harder to face. What if she had failed and reverted to her old ways? But worse, now couldn't even remember it. He pulled her close with falsely reassuring words and Branwen sighed. She wrapped her arms around him and hooked her chin over his shoulder. She couldn’t have been closer if they were one being.
”I didn’t do it.” She affirmed for him again. Her hands fell to settle just above his hips, her lips claiming his in a brief but meaningful kiss. ”But we should find them…before they find me. I’m not worried about two human’s killing me but…” Her blue eyes rolled down the immortals body in appraisal before she grinned mischievously. ”-you might be a little more ‘breakable’ than I am.” She would kiss his cheek and step back slightly to keep herself focused. Being too close to Enzo she could easily lose her focus.
”They didn’t say where we could find them?”

He wasn’t trying to show his distrust, he was just unsure of what to do. This had been going well or so he thought. But to have strangers approach him with the want to hurt Branwen didn’t settle very well with him. This was his Branwen they were talking about and though they weren’t anything official that didn’t mean he didn’t have some kind of protective streak over her. Listening to her speak, his green eyes watched her movements. The more he watched her and how she behaved the more he was starting to see it. She wasn’t lying. She didn’t have the commercial movements of a liar. To him, her movements were worried and self-conscious. A liar would, of course, mimic the same thing but you could always tell they were fake. They would seem mechanical but Branwen seemed fluid. ”No I wouldn’t really want to worry him either but if it’s a possibility of you simply not knowing… Is it worth a shot? I don’t really know any other shifters. I know maybe one? But she is a rabbit and I wouldn’t know where to find her.” Little Larkin. A sweet tiny rabbit he had found in the forest who had helped him find a lost horse he simply couldn’t track. Though he wasn’t sure how a rabbit would help a wolf and besides that he didn’t wanna put either of the two in an awkward position. If Branwen was having issues with her wolf he didn’t want to put her in front of prey.
It definitely wasn't Larkin he had to worry about, it was definitely Bran in that scenario.
She soon moved into him and he allowed his eyes to close for a moment as he pulled her in. He knew his words weren’t that much help but he wasn’t just saying that to her, he was also saying it to himself. He wanted to believe they would figure it out and once they did they would be able to fix it. As she rests her chin on his shoulder and leaned and kissed her on the temple but it wasn’t long before she caught his lips with her own when she turned her head. She said she didn’t do it and she wanted to talk to them about it. This made him stiffen even as she attempted to jest at him saying he was breakable. Rolling his jade eyes he snorted at her. ”Please. I am immortal it’s gotta take a bit to kill me also.” maybe not as much. He didn’t heal like a werebeast could but simple wounds and illnesses wasn’t going to take him down. ”I'm not a fragile human and besides my power could come in pretty handy.” He argued.
She asked about finding them or where they could and he shook his head no. He didn’t think it was wise but he supposed they would be found sooner or later whether they went to them first or not. ”They met me out on the ranch and they took off east from there. Only thing I know to do is go back out there and head the direction they went. Maybe you can pick up a scent or something.” they had horses so maybe she could trail that. Or tracks there were always tracks. This whole thing made him feel uneasy though. Something about the matter just felt like something terrible was on the forefront and there was nothing he could do about it. ”You wanna try that?”

Another issue with visiting her father was that his cabin bordered Alvina's territory. Alvina had welcomed her into their fold back when she had been lost and off balance but in the end, she hadn't been able to help the young she wolf. She wasn't sure that now was the best time for a reunion. "He never had issues like mine so...I doubt it." Also, the last time she had arrived at his cabin it was with her mate in tow. It was one of the few memories she still had of Connor, one of the few she assumed that weren't full of blood and pain. But she could only assume. "I doubt a rabbit would really understand bloodlust..." She replied softly. Her pale eyes closing for a moment as if to block something out. Not a memory. But an inkling. She had still the occasional urges. Especially around Enzo. When his head would dip a certain way and she could see the strong column of his neck open and vulnerable to her. But unlike before, she had more control now. The ability to stamp down those urges instead of being overwhelmed.
"It could...but it's not worth seeing you curled up in bed with a headache for a few days." But then an idea hit her. She but her lip and held it in until he finished speaking. Tracking them from the ranch? That would mean...shifting. She hadn't tried it yet. She felt a small bit of fear but nodded anyway. "Sounds good." She said with a nod. Bran reached up to cup his cheek with her hand, her thumb rolling back and forth over his skin. He couldn't meet her eyes for long she was aware, but it didn't really bother her. "If you are determined to use your ability for this though...you could check my memories. Even if I cant access them you can...right? You could see if I had attacked someone?"
It was a little scary to open herself up like this again. Her eyes hadn't recovered from the last incident. A strange lingering effect. It wasn't crippling...yet. But it made things more difficult. She tried to hide the fact that they were still bothering her. That she had to squint a little more to make out details now. But she worried that he noticed.
"What if...what if when I shift I cant control it? You would be alone with me out there. I know you aren't weak but..." But Bran had a werebeasts strength. A wolfs teeth and claws. And a strong thirst for blood the rose in her chest from time to time even now. In her wolf form it would be even more prominent. "But if I hurt you I couldn't forgive myself. And since my control is in question, if you go with me you need to be armed....heavily." She tensed as she spoke. Her body tightening at the stressfull thoughts running through her mind.
"I just don't want to lose you." She reasoned softly. Her pale blue eyes drifting downward to his chest.

Aside from Bran, Larkin was the only shifter he actually knew of. He nodded and chuckled softly despite the topic. ”Be kind of funny though if she were bloodthirsty.” it was an entertaining thought amongst the strain of stress. He was trying to think on the positive side and if a tiny bloodthirsty Larkin was the light in the dark when he was going to enjoy it for a moment. Sighing quietly he wasn’t sure what else to do. She already said she didn’t prefer he uses his powers even though he was sure his powers could be the very thing that keeps her skin on her hide.Sure she could attack them but in a quick jiffy where was that going to get them? Besides he would rather not have anyone lose their life. ”It won’t be that bad.” he tried though she knew it was true. His head would feel like it would explode and given the type of zap, it could put him down and out for several days. ”If I have to use it to save you, I’m going to.” he stated stubbornly. She, of course, would advise him not to but he naturally would go with the situation. If it called for it he was going to.
She agreed to track them and that was when it seemed something came to mind. Eyes lingered on hers for a moment before quickly moving them away when he felt a pulling sensation on his head. He had to be careful with the eye contact and though it may not bother her it bothered him. However the more he tried and practiced it he could do it just a little longer over time. ”I could but is that you trying to get me to trust you?” he frowned for a moment as he quickly moved his eyes back to her before dropping them again. The warmth of her skin on his was comforting. He didn’t want her to think she had to just to prove to him her innocence. ”I don’t want to cause a problem like I had the last time, Branwen.” What if this time her eyesight didn’t come back? As it were he felt terrible about it the first time. He knew her eyes had been sensitive to things and that was something he should have considered the first time. Messing with her head would obviously mean messing with the way her vision was. ”If you… lost your eyesight because of me.” he frowned softly and grabbed her by the wrist quietly moving it to where he kissed her fingers. ”I don’t want to hurt you.”
Then came her next worry about not controlling her shift. ”I’ll be fine.” he said. ”We will cross that when we come to it. As I said, I can knock you out if I need to.” unfortunately his power did work when she was in wolf form. That had been how he had gotten her out of his old job when she decided it was a smart idea to show up as a wolf. ”Have some faith in yourself.” He knew she would mean something like a weapon but even if she was coming at him rabid he wouldn’t harm her like that. She spoke softly again and he leaned in on that note giving her a deep kiss. ”You won’t.”

Branwen was quiet for a few moments. Her blue eyes locked on his even as his green shifted and squirmed to avoid a long connection. For a moment the she wolf felt a deep weight settle into her chest. She frowned and swallowed. "I feel like you're always looking after me." She said quietly. "Its hard not to feel guilty about it...sometimes I wonder if you would have been happier if I had never walked into your life."
She had asked him then about digging through her recent memories to see if the men were in them. But his question made her pause. "It is, but not only that. I want to know for me too." He felt guilty about last time. Last time when she had asked him and he had saved her from herself. "Enzo...I wouldn't have lasted. The way I was. You saved my life." He kissed her fingers and they opened at his touch. Unfurling like the wings of a butterfly from its cocoon. Her thumb ran across his lower lip and she gave him a warm reassuring smile. "We can try the other way first."
He had more faith in her than Bran had in herself. She nodded in response to his words but didn't speak. She couldn't help but be nervous. It was a huge step for her. He understood, she knew that much. He had felt her emotions, seen her experiences, knew her thoughts. He knew who she was down to her very core. And yet he still remained at her side. A loyal friend despite the darkness. But were they just friends? Sure they had done things but that hardly meant they were 'together'. "I hope you're right." She said eventually. Her words laced with worry.
It wasn't the time for such questions. She knew it wasn't. But still, she found herself speaking as her hands fell to settle on his hips loosely. Her bright blue eyes on his chest, afraid to meet his gaze. "Enzo I know we haven't...I know that I've been..." She sighed and ran her fingers through her long wavy locks. "-that you don't tru-" Fuck this was harder than it should be. In the end she sighed in frustration and cleared her throat. Taking a step back she looked around, focusing on anything but Enzo. "We should get going I guess." She mumbled distractedly.

His brow arched as he listened to her talk. ”I don’t.” there was no hesitation almost blurting it out before she could even finish her sentence. ”It was awful not having you in my life.” but she wouldn’t know that. She didn’t know how it felt when he didn’t have her there. It was a pull he couldn’t explain and still even to this day he didn’t know why he felt so strongly to keep her around. But he did. He needed her and that was a hard thing for him to admit to. The wolf for some reason had him wrapped around her little finger and there wasn’t anything he wanted more. ”You just worry too much. If I didn’t want to or didn’t want you in my life than I wouldn’t have worked so hard to keep you in it.” He wasn’t sure why this was bothering her or where it was coming from. She had quite the insecurity going on but he didn’t know how to fix it.
The talk of entering her head though definitely caused him some anxiety. Feeling his heart thudding a bit in his chest but she said that they could deal with the first step first. If they could even get out of the first step first. He tried his hardest to keep positive about things but it was hard when he wasn’t even sure himself. He supposed he was just putting it towards the Goddesses to not let him down. They brought him this far surely it wasn’t going to be in vain? As he was about to suggest in going she started speaking again and he could tell she was feeling very conflicted with something. ”We haven’t??” he was a little confused by what she meant by that. Was there something she wanted more of him?
She started talking again but taking back what she said earlier. He should ponder on it more, to get her to tell him what she meant and to tell him what she was feeling but he supposed this was a bit more of a pressing matter. So with a nod of his head, he grabbed her hand. ”Alright. Let’s get this show on the road then.” Giving her hand a small squeeze he started to lead her out of the alleyway giving her enough time, of course, to help her eyes and do what she needed to do to make it more comfortable for her.
--
Once out at the ranch, he stepped down onto the snow feeling it break down and crunch under his weight. Green eyes traveled towards Branwen. This was gonna be her show from here on out and he hoped that she didn’t have trouble like she anticipated. ”Don’t worry. I got you, okay?” her gave her a grin and winked at her. He didn’t want her to know he was worried too. They hadn’t willingly tried this out beforehand so it was like walking in blind. But if there was a problem he would handle it as it came.

She didn't answer him nor did she try to broach the subject again. They had bigger issues at hand anyway. It was silly to focus on something like that at such a moment. Eventually, they headed back to the ranch. The entire ride in the wagon Branwen had been quiet, obviously worried about what might happen when they reached it. She hopped down from the wagon, hearing the snow crunch under her boots. Blue eyes turned to Enzo and she nodded, taking a deep shaking breath she began to disrobe. Not wanting to ruin her clothing she handed it over to him to hopefully keep handy for her. She didn't want to be naked in front of some complete strangers. Just being bare in front of Enzo made her squirm a little...and he had certainly seen all there was to see.
The cold nipped at her skin and Bran took a long breath to steady herself before she shifted. The shift was as smooth as ever. Her body falling forward and bones reshaping. Her face lengthening. Hair erupting from her skin like a furry tidal wave. She took a few steps forward on her furry paws, her strange bright eyes flicking back to Enzo. "Its ok...so far." She said telepathically although even there her voice shook with worry.
The wolf's nose dropped to the road, picking up the strong scent of a couple humans and Enzo. It had to be them. "You may want to get the horse." Bran called back to him. Unsure if he had the stamina to keep up with her on foot. Her kind was built to run for miles on end. His? Not so much.
Her tail lashed back and forth as she waited for him and then turned to run. Her nose dropping toward the road on occasion to check for scents. The town they were apparently bedding down in wasn't too far away. With her chocolate legs still beating steadily beneath her, Branwen made her way into town. Her tongue lolled from her mouth and the wolf turned back to see if Enzo was still with her. It was when her face was turned that a rock would strike her, one the size of a fist clubbed her right in her icy eye. The wolf yelped frantically and stumbled back while pawing at her face and whimpering.
"Its a wolf! Go get the men! She's back to attack someone else!!" Apparently word traveled fast here. Branwen was still whimpering and rubbing her eye with her leg. A bright streak of red easily seen beneath her plush fur. The kid had one hell of a throwing arm. She needed to speak to them, to tell them she was here to fix things. But it was hard to focus when her eye felt like it was going to explode. "Enzo-" She tried to get him to speak, hopefully he had arrived by then.
