Magical Ability:
The Kiss: A kiss from any merfolk can grant the ability to breathe underwater to someone, the older the merfolk the longer the gift can last but it has a maximum of three days. Callista's kiss can last for a day at most, which is rare. Most often it will range between 12-16 hours.
[break]Siren's Song:Merfolk have a gift or magic known as Siren's song. They can lure others to them and bade them to do their bidding. The older the merfolk the stronger the song. The younger merfolk can rarely get much use of their song, but it also depends on the willpower of the person being sung to.
With Callista being around the two hundred years old, her song is not yet at its most powerful. She most often uses it to suppress feelings of fear, weariness and general laziness in her crew, in battle she will often be found with a tune on her lips, inspiring and coaxing courage - and at times blood-lust - forth in her crew. She is able to weave the song into her voice at times, but most often she is not doing so and only when she loses her temper is she prone to weave it into her voice.
[break]Her songs effect depends on her target(s) state of mind, willpower and their view of her, if they have a positive view of her or are open to her her song will find its way easier than if they are not.

Appearance:
This fierce little lady has no quarrels with her appearance. She doesn't take much care of her body, she bathes regularly, washes her face whenever there is fresh water, but otherwise she lets her hang loose held in place by a hat. Her hair is a fiery red, small braids are found here and there with small rings or other trinkets woven into them. Her hair falls to the a point below her shoulder-blades and her tangled locks always carry a heavy scent of sea. Her eyes are a clear blue. Her face was once fair and clean, but now it is most often covered by a layer of salt and dirt. Her face carries the traces of the merciless winds she faces everyday and yet she keeps a youthful appearance when you consider her age and occupation.
[break]
[Break]She wears loose clothes, which do nothing to show off her figure. Most often you see her in a loose, long sleeved shirt in a washed out color, underneath that a simple top. She wears trousers in dark colors with a belt, which serves to hold two small cutlasses. She wears several necklaces, one carry a vial of poison and another was a gift from her mother. She wears several silver rings to protect and help make her punches do extra damage. Above that she wears a long coat which serves to isolate her from the wind. A broad belt holds it all in place. She is not the most impressive looking pirate on the seas, but she is still a force to be reckoned with. Her body is well muscled, but much like her ship, she relies on speed to reach her target faster than they can act and she is rarely in a position to overpower stronger opponents, she can, however, push the pain aside and will fight till the very end. Daily shouting matches with the winds have made her voice hoarse.
[break][break]
Her tail is a six feet and seven inches wonder of greens, blacks and golds. Her dorsal fin is green and black, minor side fins in golds and greens and her tail fin is mostly gold - almost white at the end- greens mixing with the gold closer to her body. The scales shimmer with gold in the light, even the greens and blacks.

Personality:
The captain of The Bloody Maiden was chosen to be the captain due to her ruthless nature in battle and her almost reasonable nature towards her crew. However, she has not seen this many years as a captain without learning a few things, she gives her crew someone to look to in times of need and listening to her crew is a key part in how she has remained on the post. She is a rather uncomplicated woman and at times she is one of few words and lets her actions speak for her. She believes that you can promise as much as you want, but if your actions don't match your words, she will rarely trust you. [break]
Her temper can be quite an obstacle for her at times, she is quick to anger and putting on a minor dominance display is not unheard of. However, smiles come just as often to her as the storm she can whip up in a matter of seconds. Her smiles never really reach her blue eyes, she loves to joke with her crew, even though you have to get to know her a little better to see when she is joking and when she is serious, because she rarely gives any more hints than a raised eyebrow and a change in voice, perhaps a friendly elbow in the side. Not only that her humor is rather grim, dirty and carries a small grain of truth at times. When it comes to her crew members she would like to trust them with her life, but in reality she would never truly trust them a hundred percent. She sees them as a sort of family and she would do whatever she could to keep them, safe, satisfied and their lives interesting. That being said she doesn't let them give her the run-around, she expects loyalty and if not she is not afraid to dump them, dead or alive, in the ocean at the first sign of disloyalty.[break]
Despite being a rather pleasant captain towards her crew, her trust is not easily earned and she gives no second chances. She has suffered too much in this life to be kind to every being she comes across and she only shows affection when she knows none will judge her or deem her weak for it. [break]
[break]She has little respect for the rules of the kingdoms - on land and in the sea- and she follows her own head, her own sense of right and wrong and she can be a mystery to some when it comes to her reasoning, but one thing is for sure about the red-haired captain, she keeps her word once it is given. [break]
She doesn't want to share her past with anyone, but rumors and stories of how she came by the Bloody Maiden, why she hunts down slave-ships and what she was before her life as a plundering mermaid are circulating, she never denies or confirms any of them. Finding them rather funny at times. She is quick to protect the weakest in the world and often she takes pity on hybrids, giving them a place on her ship if they need it. She never truly reveals why she is doing things, she doesn't need to explain herself to anyone but herself and she likes it that way.
[break]But above all else, she is a pirate and she has the mouth of one too.

History:
Callista was born into a small village of merfolk. Her father was the quartermaster on one of the Kings ships, her mother was a highborn mermaid with a beautiful singing voice. Callista had a relatively normal childhood, when she reached the age of twenty she was training to become a soldier, learning to fight with spears, sword and harpoons. She had her head full of dreams of becoming a general. So when interest from a couple of years older merman became apparent she started to alter her dreams, she wanted to become a general with a certain merman by her side. So she strove to become the best, to become worthy of the merman's attention. Everything was going according to her plan, when she swam to meet her future husband in a nearby reef. On her way though, she became entangled in the net. Panicked, she was hoisted up and she was met with the sight of a strange crew. The crew proved to be that of a slaver ship. They had been fishing for food, when she had been caught in their nets, at first she hoped to be set free, but sadly, she was not so lucky. [break]
[break]The ship named,The Maiden, was quick and carried smaller groups of slaves, to be sold at underground markets. To serve the highest bidder. Callista had yet to grown old enough to have any real use of her song, so as she was hoisted up on deck she could do little to defend herself. At first the crew wanted to fillet her, thinking she would taste as any other fish, but when her tail split and shrunk into a pair of legs they thought differently. The captain took a liking to her, thinking a mermaid would prove useful in the future, he kept her. Threw her to the slaves in the crammed hull. She lived in darkness. Not being able to move to without elbowing the person next to her. At first she fought whenever a few members of the crew came for her, but after beatings she let them drag her along. The captain never had any regard for her safety and health, she was simply the most interesting cargo he had at the moment, so it was she who had to suffer through the mans unhealthy obsession with fire. The first time she lay with a fever for weeks, the second time she almost died. The burns scarred her back. The captain broke her spirit and she whenever the captain grew bored of her, she belonged to the crew.
[break]She was in the service of the pirates for years as their slave, she cleaned, she brought news of the state of the slaves in the ships hull. She stopped more than one attempt to overtake the ship. As she grew older and she found her voice to be more powerful, she started to keep the slaves in check, simply because she would suffer is she did not. It was when she turned fifty years that she found some will to fight back and reclaim her freedom. There were few of the old crew, which had caught her, left. The captain was growing old and the younger crew members started to rely more on the quartermasters word and guidance than the captain. It was then that she started to work her way under the skin of the quartermaster, she sang to him when he was troubled, smiled and did as he wanted. She kept it up for three years before she finally sang the man to open her chains and let her go. She dove over the railing and when she felt the water swallow her her tail grew back. It was an old familiar feeling, as she swam she cried. A sorrowful sound emerged from her throat as she swam. She was back in the ocean, free from her prison on the ship. Her body was scarred, dirty and her mind was just as so. Her once clear and innocent blue eyes were filled with regret and hate. She fled to the deep and eventually found her family. She found her admirer had been wed, one of her brothers were dead and the rest were fighting in a war she knew nothing off. Callista licked her wounds and tried to restore herself to the mermaid she had been, but with no success. She trained with her father, who saw that she had no will to fight and wanted to send her to her mother, but Callista refused. She kept to her self, took care of the bruises and cuts she left the training grounds with everyday. Eventually she grew ruthless. She grew to find life in the heat of battle, she found her strength and her fathers approval were gained once again, but she found no rest from her nightmares and memories. She grew vengeful and angry.
[break][break]
[break]The Maiden was sailing under the command of the old captain yet, he was on his last voyage, when his rest was disturbed by the sound of shouting and bells ringing on the deck. When he emerged from his cabin he found three dead crew members, throat slit and the wind carried a sweet song. From above a shadow jumped down from the mast, when he saw who was standing on the deck smiled at first, the song stirring pleasant memories and chasing away the urge to draw his sword and gut the mermaid. She sang up until the point where she cut the captains throat. The rest of the ship wasn't spared. Every familiar face was killed and those she did not know she threw in the ships cell. She had her revenge, a ship drenched in blood and no crew. So she traded the prisoners freedom for their service until they reached a port.
[break][break]
[break]The mermaid and her small crew reached a port, the crew went to the land and she dove back into the sea. Restless and with no purpose she became a crew-member on one of the Kings ships. She started at the bottom of the pecking order and worked her way up, she plundered and sunk enemy ships in the name of the king. And then it all ended. A treaty was in place and the restless mermaid couldn't find the joy in claiming taxes from foreign ships. So she abandoned the kings service and walked, for the first time, on land. She sought out the crew members who still lived, found the previous quartermaster, but he fled when he saw her. She never found him again. She became a regular guest at a tavern filled to the brim with thieves, pirates, murders and other desperate folk. She heard of a ship transporting slaves, something she didn't think still happened after the treaty was in place, She expected to hear no more of it, that the kings fleet would take care of it, but when news of the slaver ship coming to the little town reached she felt the anger and memories of her time aboard a similar ship stir. When the ships crew visited the tavern she challenged the captain to combat, if she won the slaves would be set free, if she didn't she would join them. The mermaid ended up in the hull of the ship with the rest of the unfortunate souls.
[break]This time she was stronger though. She weaved her song into her speaking voice, the other slaves were mostly hybrids and the long voyage they were on had broken down their will. They listened to her because she resembled hope, even if it was just a small speck of it. Callista fed the slaves the strength and courage to rise up with her against the crew. In the end they took the ship. Callista guided them to a safe port where she let the slaves walk free, though a handful decided to stay and serve her. She refused them at first, but when they followed her she took them under her wing. With her new crew she came by a fast, strong ship and named it The Bloody Maiden a reminder of what she came from. What had shaped her into the woman she was today. She started to hunt down slave-ships, sinking and killing their crews. She liberated eh slaves, offering them freedom and expected nothing in return. Her crew were free to walk away at any time. It changed over the years and as she became known for being a ruthless pirate who fought like a beast and she was often mistaken for a long-haired man due to her attire and rough voice. [break]
[break]Time passed and as the times changed so did she and her crew. They grew more reckless and the thought of only hunting slave-ships subsided and the Bloody Maiden started to plunder small towns along the coasts, foreign and along the coasts of Oedir. The trading ships weren't safe either. Riches and the like grew increasingly important, but to the captain it was a fun little side business, she still engage every slaver-ship with a dreadful tune on her lips and her crew at her back.
[break] Sometimes she walks on land to give her crew a break from the sea and enjoy the towns and all they have to offer, at those times she retreats to the water, enjoying her freedom to do as she pleases and having none to answer to.

Miscellaneous:
She has six scars on her back. Some are burn scars and others are not. They are a couple of shades lighter than her skin tone. Her other scars are not as obvious as these, but she does have more than this.
[break]
A small tattoo of the symbol of the god of the sea between her shoulder-blades.
[break]
The Bloody Maiden is filled to the brim with cannons and has more firepower than you would expect of a ship of its size. It is build for speed and rigged with hooks and saw-like sides designed to rip through the hull of an enemy ship. The ship most often ports at Scavenger's Port or in the lower lands of Mir.
