I t was amazing really. The things that if done everyday could become normal and routine. But was it horrible that he cherished those few moments of closeness? That moments after when she could imagine just for a second that it hadn't been a business transaction but an act of passion were the reprieve in her mind numbing day. Of course the jingle of coins always brought her back. She had to keep pushing on, one day she would get 'the boss' paid back. But would she like who she had become when there was no one else holding the reins? She bit her plump bottom lip and leaned back against a wooden support of the large stone building that she called 'home'. A couple of the more enterprising girls had already set out to earn coin this morning. Lucia couldn't help but wonder if anyone had ever bought her freedom from him. Not in the two years she had been here at least she knew. Lucia licked her dry lips and took a bite out of the apple that would serve as her breakfast. Her gray eyes turning to observe the morning crowd in the marketplace. On this morning with the sun beating down on her tanned skin and the smell of various foods being offered up from vendors she could feel her stomach clench hungrily. But she wasn't about to waste her hard earned coin on something as silly as an edible treat. Her lips twitched into a practiced coy smile when a man slowed down as he made his way past. But he kept moving and Lucia returned her attention to the apple that was now mostly gone. (Open)

Aislyn couldn't really say she liked cities. They were dirty and crowded and too many people pushed up against each other. She wasn't sure if it was always this crowded or if she simply had the bad luck of only visiting when it was exceptionally crowded. Still, there were some things that simply couldn't be collected or made in the places she traveled. Certain rare plants only grew under certain conditions and there were people who made their living cultivating such things.
So here the albino were was, dressed as much as she cared to for the modest of civilizaed folk. A white linen vest, sleeveless and belted at the waist covered her torso. Today she had even managed to dig what passed for a skirt out of her bag. Really it was just a long scarf of cloth she twisted around her hips. Her feet were bare. Most seemed to look at her as either a vagabond or a woman of low reputation, but she didn't seem to be bothered by their frank appraisal of her. Over her shoulder she carried a pair of bags lashed together, a little like the packs an animal might carry.
It had taken almost an hour to haggle for the tiny, dark glass vial now carefully packed away in her things. It had been pleasant- the woman recognized her as a fellow healer and they had chatted while bargaining, had tea even. She had no real other business in the city but the traffic drove her inevitable to a marketplace and a sweet, rich scent caught her sensitive nose above the scents of bodies and refuse. She traded a hangover cure for a cone of sweet roasted nuts from a vendor and retreated to the side of the street to enjoy her spoils. She almost bumped into another woman who seemed to have a similar idea, enjoying something like a breakfast on the side of the street out of the main traffic.
"Good morning," Aislyn offered, her expression shifting to a slight smile when she caught the feline undertone of the woman's smell.

A flash of ivory drew her attention and Lucia dipped to the side just in time to avoid a rather pale woman who was trying to escape the hustle and bustle of the crowd. One of her brows rose with surprise but she kept the practiced smile on her face. Inhaling she took in the sweet scent of the roasted treat that the woman carried. Something that made her salivate. But also the undertone of something else. Something not so human. Something prey. She was a werebeast and from what Lucia could gather she was likely some sort of deer or antelope, it could be hard to discern them at times. ”Morning.” She returned and tossed her apple core then crossed her arms and leaned back against one of the buildings supports. Her eyes darted to the other girls nearby and her lip almost unperceptively rose in a threat to the one who had started in their direction then retreated. It was everyone for themselves here. They all needed to earn coin. But as Lucia’s silver eyes returned to the pale almost willowy woman she felt her stomach sink. She didn’t really look well-endowed with coin. ”What brings you to the city?” She ask to break the ice. There was a distinct wild smell to her, not the stagnant dry fumes that the city was filled with. But something more exotic and fresh. Lucia sidled closer, probably too close given that the woman wasn’t likely here for companionship but just to escape the crowd. ”May I?”She ask and if allowed she would take one of the little sweet roasted nuts and pop it in her mouth. Audibly purring. It didn’t quite sate her sweet tooth, but it certainly helped. ”I’m Lucia. Whats your name sweetheart?” Not that many clients would give their names. But she didn’t get the feeling that this woman was here for any ‘fun’.

Aislyn didn't balk as the other woman sidled closer- she was almost most comfortable around other weres, whether that was prudent or not. It wasn't that she disliked people, only crowds. And she certainly didn't mind pleasant smelling, attractive company. "Medical supplies." At first she was tempted to leave it at that, but then the woman reached for a nut and Aislyn tilted the paper cone towards her, an invitation to share with her. "There is a particular extract that I only get from a particular family that lives in the city. They are good herbalists and I have seen their garden."
Surely nothing the other woman cared about, but Aislyn was more than willing to converse. She popped one of the nuts into her mouth, studiously sucking off the sweet coating first. The bite of salt beneath the sugar satisfied a deep seated craving of her own. "Aislyn. Pleasure to meet you."
She didn't exactly put any emphasis on the word but her pale gaze, more blue than lavender in the bright morning light, skimmed briefly over the exotic were. Though not always in touch when it came to the ways of city dwellers, Aislyn was beginning to gather that perhaps the woman had been lingering on the side of the street for something other than a quick bite. She exuded a certain amount of blatant sexuality that wasn't exactly the norm. Aislyn's smile was a little wry when she again addressed her temporary companion.
It would not have been the first time Aislyn has paid for pleasure- she spent little time building relationships but that didn't make her like celibacy. Sex was as old a profession as soldiering- perhaps older. Lucia, to her, looked like someone who should have been a noble's mistress, a kept courtesan rather than selling her time on the street. Time too valuable for the likes of her, she suspected. She did not carry much coin on her, doing most of her business in trade.

I nteresting. Medical supplies? Was she some sort of physician then? Maybe she wasn’t as poor as she appeared. Lucia’s silver eyes slipped unabashed down the ivory skinned woman as she spoke. Lingering where the loosely tied shawl like skirt hung around her hips. ”Are you an herbalist then?” Lucia ask when her gaze flitted back up to the woman’s face. Her head dipping a bit and a smile coming to her plump lips when a name was given. Aislyn. This likely wasn’t a business arrangement then. But oh well, mornings were slow anyway. It wasn’t as if she would miss out on many opportunities by taking a few minutes to speak with tantalizing stranger. Perhaps it was the predator in her that surged to the surface when prey was around. Or maybe it was the woman herself just craving a connection with another soul. But she didn’t hurry away or make an excuse to leave the woman’s side. Instead she lingered. Likely drawing curious glances from the other girls but she didn’t truly care. Conversations didn’t earn coin. But her being yearned for it all the same. It was a murmured voice behind her that made Lucia’s eyes narrow and her attention divert to the other ‘ladies’. She was certain she heard one of them say that they were going to tell Felix, which in itself was nothing. But if Felix told the ‘boss’ that she wasn’t pulling her weight the repercussions could be much harsher. She growled, a low sound that came from her chest but one that was barely audible and turned her gaze back to the pale friendly passerby. ”As much as I hate to ruin a nice moment….a girls gotta’ work.” Her lips twisted into a forced smile but suddenly Lucia stepped even closer. The nails of one hand sliding alluringly over the bared pale skin of Aislyn’s side. ”Were you looking for some companionship?”

Now she was watching Lucia more closely and she didn't miss the lingering gaze of the other woman. Unconciously she shifted her position, her hips swaying slightly to the side to give her body a subtle curve that softened her lean, angular body. She wasn't terribly feminine and she would never like soft, but the body language was still inviting.
"Apothecary and chirurgeon," the pale woman corrected gently. "I have herb knowledge but my skill set extends to knowledge of medical compounds and... the body." There was a slight pause on the last word and her smile broadened just a touch, dimpling one of her cheeks slightly. She followed Lucia's gaze to see what had drawn it, noting the eyes on them. It made her uncomfortable. They weren't outright hostile but there was something distinctly predatory about it. She resolutely turned her attention away.
The growl pulled a soft noise from her, low in her throat and not quite human. Her eyes widened slightly and her pulse sped. Prey response. Her face gave away her disappointment when Lucia spoke, mixed with a number of other emotions. Then she stepped closer. The elk-were seemed frozen though not startled. The animal part of her brain smelled the scent of predator all around her. Her breathing was quick and her pupils dilated under the slide of Lucia's hand. She leaned subtly into the touch and the tip of her tongue flicked out to wet suddenly dry lips.
"I wasn't," she said softly, "But I think I've changed my mind." She had a few small trinkets of higher value she kept on her for emergencies. While this wasn't precisely what she'd had in mind when she packed them, she didn't imagine she'd regret it.

L ucia felt...outclassed by the woman before her. Spewing a title of some sort that Lucia didn't understand. Her eyebrows that had narrowed with confusion rose a tad when Aislyn seemed to almost accentuate the word body. But certainly it was all just in her mind. "Knowledge of the body?" Lucia repeated, curious despite feeling unintelligent in the presence of someone who must be rather educated and skilled. Since her youth Lucia had basically been treated as a stray dog, an education or training of any sort was beyond her. To date her skill amounted to being able to please someone in carnal ways, quickly. After her question she had expected Aislyn to dip away. Some had a harsher response when being propositioned. But surprisingly she had been receptive and Lucia leaned closer, her hand now resting softly, possessively on her slender hip. "Come with me." She practically purred against Aislyn's ear. With that she would grasp Aislyn's hand with her own and throw an almost haughty look at the others. See I'm working. Her silver eyes seemed to say. If Aislyn followed Lucia would lead her to her own humble little room in the large expanse of the building. But calling it her room would have been a loose term. It was more of an office where she took care of her clients. There were no personal trinkets anywhere and the bleak stone walls did little to soften the rather dark space. There were various pillows scattered around the small room and a curtain had been tied back to serve as a door. One that Lucia would release once they were inside. But once there she paused. It wasn't abnormal for her clients to be nervous or unsure, especially if it was their first time with one of the ladies. And some were pushy and forceful. Knowing precisely what they wanted. But Aislyn felt like more of a wild card. She truly didn't know what to expect from her. Or for that matter how to approach her. "You must not come to the city often. I'm certain I would remember someone so striking."Flattery, but truth all the same. With her pale skin and hair she stood out almost like a ghostly apparition among the dirty disheveled crowd. Her skin wasn't dark and leathery from the sunlight and her eyes didn't carry that perpetual scowl that many did. Or perhaps that was just among the ladies she worked with. It was hard to differentiate at times. If Aislyn allowed it Lucia would reach up to tuck an ivory lock of hair behind her ear then step in closer until the distance between them was minute. "I know your like me." She said softly. Prey. That was what she was...but Lucia had a strong grip on her predatory urges. Even if they did surge from time to time. She turned her skull just a bit. Her soft lips pressing against the ivory skin of Aislyns throat until she could feel her pulse thrumming. Pushing the boundaries even now. She knew precisely what she was doing. Testing the limits with someone who could react badly to a predator at her throat. But then again some lived for that fear, those moments feeling so alive that everything seemed so much clearer. And then she spoke. Pulling back just enough so that her words could be heard. "But you're no predator. Are you Aislyn?"

Aislyn had few eyes for their surroundings as she was led into the building that smelled hotly of sex and bodies. She moved with quick and quiet grace, her own fingers curling around Lucia's to keep them from being separated. She followed closely but kept a careful distance, just enough that only their hands continued to touch. She wasn't certain how long it had been since she had touched skin that wasn't bleeding, kept close company with someone who was not sickly and in need of dire care. Nearly for the length of the treaty she had been something of a hermit, enjoying the peace of the wilds and not being called on to nurse people back to health just so they could die on a different battlefield.
For a race so long lived, death had always been a close companion of Aislyn. That awareness in some ways made life more precious and yet she had been content to be alone. The occasional night here or there with a stranger, rarely with another werebeast. Always those times flared something deeper within her, a desire for something she'd never quite been able to place words on. Her, in the darkened building, her eyes reflected less light and shone their truer pinkish color. As thye entered the small room, Aislyn kept Lucia's hand in hers unless the other woman pulled away.
"No, not often. I... the crowds-" she hesitated, searching for words. "They feel like traps." The last words were whispered as the feline lady closed the distance between them. She leaned into her, breath catching at the touch of lips on her throat. Her body was tense, almost quivering but not as though she might bolt. Her eyes narrowed to slits, sweet adrenaline beginning to surge in her bloodstream.
"I am only prey when I choose to be." These words came clearly enough, though soft. Then she bared her throat, chin tilted back. The delicate fingers of her free hand flexed and hovered just above Lucia's hip, touching fabric but not quite touching skin. "May I touch you?"

L ucia’s hand rested on the woman’s hip as her lips pressed against her neck. Inhaling deeply the delectable scent of her skin. Yes, she was going to enjoy this one. She could see that now. "I am only prey when I choose to be." Those words. Those simple decisive words made Lucia stiffen. Her muscles going rigid beneath her flesh until she forced herself to calm. It must be nice to be able to decide. To have a choice in anything. Her silver eyes had darkened but Lucia hadn’t pulled away. And when Aislyn ask to touch her Lucia merely smiled. ”I would be disappointed if you didn’t.” The hand holding the woman’s hip slid around to work at the knot that held her skirt firm and her lips moved lower to her collar bone. -Fade to black- It was the moments after that were her favorite. Those blissful few minutes before her companion could catch their breath and she could just enjoy the pleasure of being touched without something being expected of her. Her work was done and this was her own personal payment. Her coin inevitably went to the boss in hopes of one day earning enough that she could be set free. Knowing all the while her actions were futile. Sweat glistened on her skin through the tiny window and Lucia snuggled closer against the pale womans back. Her lips pressing against her shoulder and her teeth lightly dragging across her skin. While this had been a job it hadn’t been unpleasant in the least. The woman was attractive and there was something so tempting about having prey in the palm of her hand without acting on her instincts. Like a kitten playing with a mouse. But she was no kitten. And this woman was certainly no mouse. She sighed softly and let her hand rest on the crest of Aislyns hip. ”I hope you enjoyed that.” She murmured. A soft purr lying just below her voice. But soon came the part she hated. The payment. The leaving. The getting back out there on the street with someones taste still on her lips. But that was her life.

Whatever notice Aislyn took of her companion's stiffening was quickly lost in what came next. In the aftermath she drowsed, warm and content. Her eyes opened to mere slits, studying the tiny window and wishing in a distant sort of way that it had been snowing outside. A warm bed on a frosty day was possibly her favorite thing. Her mind was distant and quiet, in a way that it rarely was. Usually she was thinking. She enjoyed thinking, but she also enjoyed this sleepy quiet. Tucking her head down against one of her arms she smothered a yawn, back pressing more tightly against Lucia and her eyes momentarily squeezing shut.
Teeth against her skin made her still. A low, half-muffled laugh escaped her and she twisted somewhat to face her, looping her slim arms around the tanned woman's neck. She tucked her head down and nuzzled under her chin, content and almost playful. She wasn't yet thinking about the inevitable parting, lingering in the temporary comfort of companionship. "I did. Makes me remember the benefits of coming down out of the woods on occasion. Though I feel as if I owe you dinner- it was far and above anything I could've expected."
Aislyn drew back enough to meet the woman's silver eyes, her own a deep rose color in the dim light. She was more relaxed than she could remember being in a long time. The elk woman tilted her head and brushed her lips lightly against Lucia's forehead. Gradually, the practicalities of life were beginning to nag on the edges of her mind. She had yet to secure a place to stay for the night. Further, there were a few names she'd been given to seek out for referrals. She had intended to bide in the city for at least a few days and that meant finding work where she could. "If it is not too personal, may I ask what your beast kind is?"

S he smiled in response to her words and settled her chin lightly on Aislyn's head as she snuggled in close. Purring louder now despite trying to stifle it. Sometimes being part feline could be a pain. "Fancy dinners are best saved for women unlike myself." Ones that matter. But she said the words without remorse or self loathing, just a simple statement. When the pale woman shifted and leaned her head back Lucia's fingers gently brushed a few ivory strands from her eyes. Those haunting eyes that she hadn't really noticed up till that moment. But in the pale light of the window they almost seemed to glow. "Beautiful." She said softly. Closing her eyes when the woman's lips pressed against her forehead. The question surprised her but Lucia was curious herself what the woman was. She only had a board idea and was curious to know more. "Snow leopard." She murmured. The predatory gleam coming to eyes for a moment as the feline within her was brought to light. She took the woman's face between her hands and let her lips brush just over the surface of her lips. "And you my prey?" She used the word intentionally. Her voice teasing. As if the woman had become her victim in all of this. She took her bottom lip between her teeth and then released her to lean back. Her body arching in a very feline stretch. "Its not often I have the company of my own kind, this has been a nice change."

Aislyn made a slight sound that didn't seem like agreement, but she let the statement lie. Difference of opinion that. She could enjoy dinner with most civil company and she suspected that Lucia was at the very least capable of comfortable silence and minor small talk. Ah well, she mused, perhaps she would have to change her mind. That thought made her pause, reconsidering her thought process. Somewhere along the lines she had assumed there would be a second time. Perhaps there would be. If she was staying, she could seek her out again.
"Ooooh. I saw one once, in the mountains." She paused, head tilted as she recalled the moment. "I was coming out of a wood line into the snow and saw it on a ridge line." It had vanished shortly afterward. She had been shifted at the time and had briefly worried it would go after her. In the end, they had passed peacefully, two wild things in the night. She shivered a little as Lucia's lips brushed hers.
"Elk." She skimmed her hands over the were leopard's body as she stretched, admiring it openly and a little regretfully. The world was coming back now, the delightful silence fading. She finally pushed herself up so she was sitting, brushing her wild white hair back over her shoulder.
"Likewise, Lucia." She liked the name. It was pretty and just a touch exotic. It didn't quite catch the wild nature under the surface, but so few things did. "We should probably rejoin the world." There was genuine regret in her voice, and she didn't stop touching the other woman, just her fingertips trailing over the skin, ivory against tawny.

E lk. Well she hadn't been too far off base. But the moments of peace ended all to quickly. Aislyn sat up and Lucia knew it was coming a moment later. Rejoin the world. "Of course." She said with a practiced smile. Climbing to her feet she snagged her slip of a dress and pulled it up her body. Eyes flicking briefly to the pale skinned woman before she turned to the curtain. She hated the whole payment part. With some it was easier. Others it was more uncomfortable to mention, especially if she had enjoyed it herself. "5 Gold."It was a statement that made her body tense. A service traded for coin. "Should you come back to the city again you know where to find me." She reached back to pull her long silver hair up into a loose knot and grabbed a small simple but well sanded stick to push through the hair to hold it in place. And then she waited for payment. It wasn't an exorbitant amount and pretty standard as far as the girls in this town went.

Aislyn felt it, almost like a physical wall. The smile, the careful physical distance. She looked away, sliding to her own feet and reaching for her clothes. It was a matter of moments to reassemble her garments, but she spent longer than she needed to fussing with the knot of the shawl around her hips. It was business. She knew that. The payment didn't bother her though it sounded low to her ears.
"It seems to me that your time is worth a good deal more." She murmured, knowing it wasn't her place to say but trying to fill the silence that felt suddenly too strange. She by her packs and popped the seam on one of the straps. A few gold coins spilled into her hand, along with a few jeweled trinkets. One was a gold ring set with a small ruby, easily worth much more than the price she had quote. Carefully stowing the rest, she set the payment on a small table. It seemed.... uncouth to just hand it to her. Then she slung her pack over her shoulder again.
"I'll be staying for a short while, at least. I've had some referrals for work." Tentatively, slowly, giving Lucia time to pull away if she didn't want the contact, she reached up to touch the silver hair. Seeking contact for her own reassurance but not wanting to push it where it wasn't desired. Halfway through the gesture she let her hand fall. "I'll be staying at the Ox and Bell." It had been recommended to her by her herbalist contact. "If you are ever free for that dinner, the offer is open. Work or not, your choice."
She didn't give her a chance to respond, almost afraid of the answer. There was no question about whether or not she would be back.
