Being a relatively young dwarf still, Arfath has a youthful and optimistic appearance, if not a bit naive. His dark brown hair is just past shoulder length, and slightly wavy. Unlike most dwarves, he keeps his face clean-shaven, except for a bit of a 5-o’clock shadow. His eyes are a dark chocolate brown, almost appearing black in dimly lit rooms. He stands at the normal dwarf stature, but due to traveling more than most of his kind, his figure is a bit more trimmed down, and his complexion has patches of tan as well as sunburns. His garb is designed not for battle, but for travel. Each article of clothing he wears is made for ease of movement, and is equipped with many pockets of all sizes. He carries with him a large backpack full of travel sizes of his lab equipment and basic necessities for life on the road.

Personality:

If someone had to sum up Arfath in one word, those who know him would say he was curious. Those who are mere acquaintances of his would say the same, but with a slightly different definition of the word. He has always been inquisitive, which no doubt is a trait he inherited from his father, a fellow alchemist. At any given time spent in his presence, there is a 50% chance that he is writing something down in what he calls his “Explorer’s Journal”. The rest of the time, he will either be discussing his latest finds with others, or flirting with whoever he fancies at the time. He has a quick wit, a bit of a silver tongue and can charm just about anyone who might be receptive to such advances. Though others might see his flirtatious tendencies as being a bit of a Casanova, he truly cares for the people he makes connections with. While most of his relationships are rather fleeting, it is usually because all parties are on the same page as to the terms of the connection.

History:

Arfath was born the son of an alchemist father and a toymaker mother. Both parents were rather successful in their chosen fields.

Arfath’s father was credited with the discovery of the secret property of the iron from within the volcano’s lava underneath Airen. When refined and turned to steel, the resulting blade retains a constant warmth that increases each time a heavy blow is landed. The blades can reach white hot temperatures without melting the steel, and is incredibly useful in mining tools as well as dealing a devastating blow in the “heat” of battle (pardon the pun). His father still owns and operates the company in charge of extracting and refining the “fire steel”.

His mother is an expert toymaker, crafting both stone, fabric and wooden toys for the children of Airen. Her attention to detail is unparalleled. The toy ships she crafts are exact replicas of real ships that travel the seas. She made dolls to resemble the emperor and empress in their youth, and are still the most widely sought after doll of toddler dwarves throughout the kingdom.

Arfath had a fairly privileged life growing up with two successful parents. He learned a lot from both of them, and was generally a happy child. His mother taught him how to carve stone and wood into whatever he could imagine, and his father had him in his alchemy lab as soon as he could walk and talk.

When he got older, he began to experience a feeling of wanderlust. Traveling around the mountain ranges wasn’t doing it for him anymore, and he craved to see the rest of the vast world he lived in. He had gained a love of all things related to gemstones on a trip to a cavern towards the peak of one of the surrounding mountains where the gems in the cave walls glowed a brilliant light blue every time the icy wind blew into the cave. It was then that he decided to travel the world in order to discover new gemstones and study their unique magical properties. With his knowledge of all things alchemical thanks to his father, he was given a grant and title of Royal Gemstone Specialist by the Emperor and Empress of Airen. Thus began Arfath’s exciting journey into the unknown.

Arfath carries with him a large backpack full of travel size lab equipment he needs for studying gemstones, as well as necessities for long periods of life on the road or in the wilderness. He has a bow and arrow for hunting, and a small hatchet made of his father’s “fire steel”. He carries a journal in which he is feverishly scribbling notes into at almost any given moment.
