I feel the chemicals kickin' in It's gettin' heavier
Head tipped upwards as black nose twitched. Golden optics for a moment closing as he kept scenting the air. He had heard rumors of a 'wolf pack' hanging around these parts. He normally wasn't one to go searching them out. His last experience with wolves in packs hadn't entirely been that great of one. In his old pack he had been shunned by his own littermates. He was different, unpredictable, and that wasn't something they liked. He was too much of a wild card and because he wasn't a desirable they started to weed him out. It was okay though not like he needed them anyway.
He wasn't really searching out this 'wolf pack' he had heard rumors about but at the same time, Gray wolf wasn't entirely sure why he was out here. Suppose one could call it utter curiosity but even he was unsure if that was the right word? Ever since he was young he had remembered others telling him that a wolf was naturally a pack animal and though he may feel the need to escape pack life now, eventually, he would go seeking out the companionship of his own kind. At the thought of that, gray ears flattened tight against his large skull. Lips twitched showing the very tips of his canines allowing a soft gurgle of a growl rumbled in his throat That was nonsense. Giving his head a shake he allowed it to work down his whole body shaking off the weird eerie familiar feeling creeping up on him. He was his own person -- or wolf... however you wanted to look at it. No the reason he was out here was that it was from prying eyes of on lookers. This felt more like home than any of the other places. It felt more secluded and a place he could breathe easier. A place he could be himself in.
Large paws started to carry him on through the terrain. paws extending out as claws flexed to dig into the topsoil of the earth to keep him balanced. Tail hung loosely behind him about as lazy as his ears now sat on his head. For the most part he was relaxed there was nothing around him for the time being speaking of danger. At least not yet. Though the further he began to walk the more something was starting to tickle his nose. Head lowered a bit, evening out with his spine as ears perked higher onto his skull. "Someone there?" [/b] He called out. It was a telepathic sort of speaking and so anyone -- if it were human would hear it in their head. Wolves, after all, couldn't speak like humans could.

There was a way of doing things that Alvina particularly liked. Sentinels, primarily Werebeasts in unassuming forms, would keep watch over the farthest reaches of the territory. In the event of a discovery, they would send telepathic alarms back, until the cascade of voices would eventually summon her to assess a traveler. Were they attacked, they were to fall back until assistance could be provided… Until their attacker could be dealt with. On that day, however, neither of these events was the case, for it was Alvina herself that crossed the new scent while she was out hunting.
Ordering the rest of the hunting party to disperse as she followed the trail, the blood-eyed Alpha took a leisurely place as she set on the scent trail. The odor of the newcomer was entirely fresh, and not in the least attempting to disguise itself as it lead through the overly large, intensely green ferns of the forest floor. Her pads carried her dark form silently, her claws not needing to break the forest floor to seize purchase. She was assured, familiar, and comfortable in the territory that she had long called home. Even as the slope gradually began swelling upward toward the brilliant blue of the sky, she kept her pace. The event which finally caused her, and the others nearby in the brush to pause, was the curious voice that leapt out at their thoughts only a few minutes later.
Of course, the jaguar and the other wolf nearby knew Alvina would give an order if she needed. Both, however, dispersed outward, intending to converge on the source of the voice as their Alpha herself set to seeking it out, drawing closer. Though his scent was stronger, the black she-wolf had not set her eyes upon him when she let out her own mental call. Her voice, the telepathic one, was gruff, level, and powerful as her verbal one. “Welcome to my territory, traveler. I am Alvina. What brought you to this place?”

A female voice was quick to return his calling. Ears tipped backward though not completely flat, they just showed his uncertainty that lingered on annoyance. He knew better than to be out right with what appeared to be an alpha. He wasn’t looking for a fight or really looking to be bothered. Tail hung against the back of his legs, ears relaxing on his head. However, he would not show absolute submission. She was not his superior just because she was the leader of a pack and he was an outsider. However, he would show respect. He at least had that common sense to him.
His golden optics searched his surroundings for the source. ”If I am being honest with myself and you… no actual particular reason.” He may be lying to the both of them. The unconscious part of this wolf wanted to be around his own kind. He needed that sort of interaction even if he tried so hard to keep it under wraps. ”Or maybe it was curiosity.” He said once more. He shifted his body to look an opposite direction waiting for the female to show herself. Though as the saying goes, Curiosity got the cat killed. However, he didn’t sense much of a threat in this voice. It seemed warm but strong, a quality he remembered his mother has. She had been a well-respected lady. ”I mean no trouble by trespassing.”

She could practically sense the inquisitive tipping of his ears as he tried to determine which direction she might've approached from. "Why are you curious? That feeling seems to have taken you quite a reach if you've ventured this far out." Perhaps his intention was to seek refuge in the pack? That seemed the likeliest, if he avoided saying so right away. It was rare for Werebeasts to stumble straight away into her territory if that wasn't the case.
Any searching he was doing for her was only to be expected, judging by his wolfish scent. She herself would've done exactly the same in his position. That said, she only had the knowledge that she was following his trail and that his smell was growing stronger against her dark, wet nose. Slowing her pace, she briefly paused to listen. Against the sounds of the forest, the soft tweeting of birds, and an expansive silence, she didn't detect sounds of movement nearby. Guessing he likely had paused in his course, she diverted from his path to circle around toward where she guessed he'd likely stopped. Her dark coat would likely camouflage her, as the pads of her paws dampened any sounds of her movements in the familiar territory. The first indicator of her presence would likely be the crimson orbs of her eyes... which proved the case as she finally spied his gray coat amongst the brush, scattered as it was with a small twinge of sunlight. "To your right. What is your name?"
No signs of aggression came from her yet, no twitching of her lips to expose ivory teeth. Only her ears pricked forward, alert, and her eyes commanding his attention.

She had a point and it caused his ears to flatten a bit against his skull. It didn’t matter however he knew there was probably more of a reason as to why his legs carried him this far and to this particular spot. ”Or simply looking for solitude from the hassle of eyes who are against our kind.” he pointed out simply. His voice, however, was flat. He didn’t like having to explain himself and though he didn’t try to be out right rude the wolf had a code he followed. Tail twitched a little with irritation behind him but he did his best to keep it out of his body language. He wasn’t looking for a fight let alone a reason to kill an alphess who was simply doing her job. The assassin knew she was innocent and it was those who didn’t get a bounty on their head that was safe from him. Needless to say, the skilled wolf wouldn’t let himself be bullied for no reason.
Head lifted when she finally decided to show herself off to the right of him. His body turned and head lowered to a respectable height though not submissive. Simply showing he knew and understood where he was standing. Her land. Her rules….
At least for now.
Ears lifted up off his skull, perking forwards for a moment before turning to a very lazy position. She wanted his name and part of him felt uncomfortable in giving it. His name was one of the things that got him easily picked on for. ‘looking for your Juliette?’ He mentally had to roll his eyes. ”Romeo.”

She regarded him with interest, noticing right away how he didn’t seem to overtly bow, and seeing plainly how his tail twitched with irritation. Both were indicators of a personality, or inexperience with pack order. Neither caused her immediate concern such that she considered him to be a threat. He merely seemed to have a spine at the least. “If you’re looking for that sort of solitude, this is perhaps on of the best places to find it. Though certainly not the only one.” The acknowledgement that he had sought out the place was there again. The curiosity, or his claim to it, was not something that had slipped by her.
And his eyes. He studied her, almost in the thoughtful way of calculation. Lowering her rear such that she sat on her haunches, she regarded him with a small nod as he answered at least one of her questions. “Welcome.” She repeated her short word of introduction from before. “So, what do you think of this place so far from the eyes of those against our kind?”

Holding his stance he listened to her words patiently. Of course, it wasn't but it was the one he had currently chosen. The words wanted to seep passed his lips but he kept them sealed shut. No, he shouldn't come off as an asshole to the alpha even though he particularly good at it. "Perhaps." he said with a strained voice to not let more slide out. He didn't need a bounty on his head right now let alone be forced to put one on hers. "I suppose it is more of a matter that I was in the area. Haven't your feet ever led you somewhere that your brain hadn't currently thought of yet? I do it all the time." and like most times it got him into trouble. "I appreciate the zen serenity and I thank you for the welcome but I may not be lingering much longer." or so he was convincing himself he wasn't. The large grey wolf allowed his head to lift slightly knowing well she got the message that he wasn't planning on making a jack ass out of himself. "As nice as it is. I'm not sure its a place I can stay in. Even if get rowdy being lost in my own thoughts all the time." It was true. If there was a saying he couldn't agree more with it was 'if you can't stand your own company, how could others?' he wouldn't put that on anyone. He knew how obnoxious he could be besides that work wasn't coming from quiet places.
Work came from places where there were people. People were what gave him jobs. Not nice scenery, soothing waterfalls, and the calming noises of wild life.
"But it's nice to get away every now and then." his mind was beginning to wander and teeter on wanting to stay. Maybe then he could stay away from that mermaid.
No.... no. What was he thinking? He had a life in the city he couldn't just abandon. Even without saying much this older she-wolf was beginning to get in his head and he wasn't sure he liked that.

“I suppose they have. But I’ve not been in a position to wander in such a way for a while now.” Her tone was pleasant, almost vaguely motherly. That quality was one of the dualities which really defined her as an Alpha. “That is the nature of my position, though.” At his acknowledgement of the serene, and his desire to leave soon, she tilted her head.
In a way, she was almost scrutinizing him. But after a brief moment, she simply nodded, her dismissal followed by a soft breath, though her blood-red eyes hardly seemed to drift away from him. She was still suspicious, and had lived for so long by being exactly that. For that reason, she wasn’t inclined to dropping her guard. “If you feel that way, that is fine. Know that this place is home to refugees, warriors, and all sorts alike.”
(Sorry it is short!)
