Elves

From the beginning....

The elves had been apart of the land as long as anyone could remember. Stemming from the Dryhtwood Forest, elves had always had a connection to nature and the animals. They often lived in clans, however there was always one king and his royal family to rule over them all. During the wars they had been the most peaceful of the races, often accepting fugitives and other races with open arms. However, this meant only if they swore their loyalty to the elves, provided that once they joined them they would have to fight against their race if that be so. They continue to live in the Dryhtwood Forest to this day, but instead of living in many clans like they used to they now live in harmony, although some do stay isolated in clans within the depths of the forest.

Blessed with magic from the gods and having a deep connection with nature, the elves are often kind and have a deep respect for the wilderness and the beings that live within. Many elves do not venture out of the forest, feeling safe within the familiar haven that it provides. They are the arguably the most tolerant of the other races, although some still hold prejudices. They often practice old ceremonies, having a respect for history and elders. Since many believe their magic comes from their ancestors, many pray to them and having respect for them as well. Many hold importance for the lore of the elves and their knowledge. The elves are also quite religious, worshipping all the gods, however they are mainly attributed primarily with the Goddess of Nature due to their connection to the forest. They live on average to three hundred years, and some even have youthful features even in their old age. Most live in the Aelfmenn Kingdom, where royalty rules. However, many still live in the forest and in the mountains, either by themselves or within small clans or families. The army of the elves still patrols the kingdom, and guard the forest from any danger that might pose a threat. Those to have moved to Cendra City are considered to be moving away from their culture and they often have a hard time fitting in with the other races, living in the poorer areas of the city.


Appearance

The elves are elegant creatures. They mainly possess human-like characteristics, other than the fact that they have pointed ears. Though, some elves have longer ears than others, and sometimes one can be mistaken for a human if the top half of their ears are obscured by hair. Most are slim and tall, but not all fit into these categories. Other than that their appearance varies just like any other race, including the kind of clothing they wear, if they bear any markings on their skin, or what physical characteristics they have.


Magic

Elves were blessed with having elemental magic from the gods, each element representing a different god. Some say that this was because they favored the elves due to their connection and respect to nature, while others say that this was because they were devout. Some even believe that certain families has connections to the gods themselves, hence passing down their similar elemental magic down their line. But no one really knows how or why the elves are born with elemental magic. But most believe that in a way their ancestors gave it to them. Though, elves inherit an element that runs within their family, although abilities vary. The elements are earth, fire, water, air, nature, light, darkness, and cosmos. Though there is another element that the elves possess, the element of spirit, which is often attributed to their connection to the beings in the forest and the gods.


Elf Ranks

Elf King: OPEN

The ruler of all elves, the king makes sure that all the laws of the kingdom are in order.The elf king often consults with his advisors on any matters that pertain to the kingdom, and they can choose who their advisors shall be.

Elf Council (8): Arden Illary (Nature), OPEN
The Council is ruled by eight members that represent and are closely associated to the eight elements, although it is not always the case. They are considered to be wise, and are usually elected by the elves. Sometimes an old member will hand down their position to someone they know they can trust. They decide matters that dictate leadership within the elf hierarchy, and often they provide as consultants to the elf king.

Elven Commander: OPEN
The army of the elves had been around since the beginning of time, and the commander has ever since been an important role in dictating the military. Their primary objective is to protect the forest and those within it. They sometimes serve in the Council as well as advisors to the Elf King. Their rank is earned by experience and notable achievements in the army. Below the commander are the many ranks, branching out into the military, city guards and royal guards. Elves are not required to join, and it is voluntary.

Lore Keeper: OPEN
The Lore Keeper is highly respected, as they store and write information all pertaining to elf lore and history within the Grand Library. They are considered to be very wise and are often consulted by the Council in times of need. They take on an apprentice to pass down their role, otherwise if something happens to the Lore Keeper the Council chooses one.

High Priest/Priestess: OPEN
The high priest has a very deep connection to the gods, a very religious figure according to the elves. They are believed to be chosen by the gods, however in fact many work their way up to the position or are chosen by the previous one. They are extremely devout and often preach the gods’ words, giving speeches at many ceremonies. They often lead the hunts that take place in the Sacred Hunting Grounds. Beneath them are many other priests and priestesses, and they live in the temples within the forest. They are also consulted by the Council in times of need.
