When Justus had arrived back, Elysia had welcomed him with a somewhat uncharacteristic emotional outburst, practically flinging herself into his arms as soon as he'd entered the castle walls. Later, she was a touch chagrined by her behavior. It was 'typical womanly behavior', something she tried to avoid like the plague. She was no fragile, delicate creature swayed so easily by a sweet word and honeyed voice. Still, she had stuck close to him ever since, as much as their duties had allowed. There were still things she had to attend to that took her out of his sight but she always finished them quickly and returned to him. This had been one such thing, a social engagement in a noble woman's solar that she had agreed to attend some time ago. Additionally, it was a noble family she had no interest in slighting. Still, she had been at his side when Victor's letter had been presented and they needed to discuss it.
Plus, there was the little matter of Kamaria's child. Surely the news would have gotten to the king by now via some other vehicle, but if it had not she still needed to feel out what his thoughts on the matter were. She thought he might welcome the child- he enjoyed being a father, she thought, and she had made a point to bring forth no other children. Not for the first time, she sent up a brief prayer to whomever might be listening that the child be a girl. A girl she would be able to control. A male child would be more directly under Justus or Ezra's care as he grew towards manhood.
She arrived at the doors to the king's chambers, having been told he had retired there for the afternoon, perhaps to work. One of the guards tapped on the door and announced her presence and Elysia gave him a moment more to collect himself before she swept in. She was gowned in brilliant burnt orange, accented with touches of brilliant gold and deepest velvet black. The gown was modest- by her standards- but it barely clung to her shoulder, the neckline cut low and wide so the ivory skin of her decolletage and shoulders were well framed. The only jewelry she wore was a flat onyx oval on a gold chain, at just the right length that it dipped into the cleft between her breasts, drawing the eye. A crown of gold and onyx sat on her honey-blond hair, pulled back into a tight, simple braid.
"My King." She paused when she saw him and swept her skirts wide, sinking into an elegant curtsy. Her head tilted down and to the side just so, inviting the eyes to the clean line of her neck. She held the pose for a moment, then rose with the same practiced grace, a slight smile playing across her scarlet painted lips. "I hope I am not interrupting anything, my love, but I had hoped to speak with you on the matter of the letter. We should form some response, and perhaps consider sending delegates to some of the other kingdoms."
This was a time for reaffirming who their allies really were, just in case it did come to war.
