Solara was living in Imfala castle for the time being. The commander being a dear friend of hers had not only saved her life from the marauders that would burn her home and kill her people but also saved her from a similar fate. He had arrived just in the nick of time to prevent the assassin from plunging the blade deep into her chest. But now she was trying to pick up the pieces. Her safe was thankfully still hidden in the rubble and after much digging, she had her coin again. Several days had passed where she would work on her destroyed home and then return to Imfala. But on this day she was just too exhausted to make the trip. She didn't assume Connor would worry...hell, half the time he wasn't even around so it was likely her presence or lack of would go unnoticed altogether.
It was a slow enormous job but she was working at it, slowly chipping away as she began to pull the boards and blocks one by one away from the wreckage. Salvaging what she could and putting the rest into a junk pile. She hadn’t made much of an impact yet…but she did have eternity to work on it. Her lone remaining horse had a massive paddock to himself. The one she sat in actually. It was far away from the house that it had thankfully remained untouched by the flames although much of the grass was scorched and yellowed.
”You think we can do it boy? Just you and me. It’s a big job.” The stallion as expected completely ignored her and continued the rhythmic jerks of his skull as he tore mouthfuls of grass away from the earth. ”First I need to try to track down the other horses. Hopefully, I can get most of them back if my brand hasn’t been covered. I never even had the chance to mark you, you had only been on the ranch a few days.” New blood, she was always on the lookout for new blood to add to her lines. This fellow with only a splash of white across his belly had the confirmation she had been looking for. Now sadly she had no mares to cross with him.
It was evening and the hot day was quickly turning into a cool night. She could have ridden to an inn in the nearest town but she needed to save her coin. Rebuilding would be very pricey. She had sold all of her family’s lands to get enough to build up in the first place. The attack itself still made no sense to her. The cryptic words about her mother, the needless deaths, the stolen horses….it just didn’t lead her in any direction. She was wondering now if the dying man had intended to say more. Your mother wasn’t very definitive.
And Connor…she was getting all too content in his company. She couldn’t allow herself to get accustomed to living with someone, to living with him. She had no intention of opening that vault and all the demons that were locked inside. The stallion drifted closer and Solara reached out to let her fingers trail down his dark face. ”I think we can handle it.” But as if to derail her optimistic thoughts the sound of hoof beats could be heard. The repetitive thrum that she knew all too well. Briefly, Solara recalled Connor’s words about someone coming back to finish the job but quickly shoved them away. They would have no reason to assume she would linger at a burned house. Whoever was coming likely didn’t know her home had burnt, or did. But the likelihood of it being one of those men was in her mind very low.
She sat up and reached for the dagger that she now kept on her person. Letting her fingers linger over where it sat low against her back much like Connor’s had. Even if he had only been able to give her one lesson so far. The training had been derailed for obvious reasons.
”Who goes there?” She called in a firm voice. Trying to sound more intimidating than a lone woman in a field beside her burnt home would likely be. She clicked her tongue softly until her stallion came up alongside her and then climbed to her feet. ”What business do you have here?” Her dark eyes strained against the pale evening light. Unable to make out much beyond the image of a figure on horseback.

Odom's father always told him that whenever he was out hunting to keep an eye out for anyone that was in need of help. Well, when he came across the smoking remains of a burned cottage. It was a shame such a well built home had burned down. Had there been a cooking fire that got away from the owner? Or was it set deliberately? There were the occasional ne'er-do-well that preyed on the seemingly helpless. Something he hated most foul. He saw no reason to purposefully hurt someone without cause. Sad. With a disgust he sighed and was just about to turn his horse away and leave when a voice emanated from the charcoal timbers. It was a female voice. ”Who goes there?”Even his horse was startled as he whinnied out in fear. It was all he could do to control the stallion but he did. "Whoa, Arion. Easy boy," he spoke softly to his mount as he patted his flank. "My name is Odom. Odom Ragnarson. Are you in need of help, Miss?" he replied to her inquiry. Solara Ell Polst, Open

Solara hadn't expected anyone to ride up in the late evening light. Her home hadn't been near a town or village but it appeared that smoke still tinged the air with enough potency to bring curious eyes. The stallion had been startled by her call but she didn't apologize. This was her land he was traipsing upon after all. "No, I do not require aid." Her own mount snorted when he smelled another horse in the air, another stallion of all things but Solara patted his shoulder to calm him. with a soft clicking sound of her tongue before heading toward the fence line so that she would no longer have to yell to be heard. He didn't appear to be one of the men who had ravaged her home, or he was a good actor.
"I'm Solara Ell Polst this is-was my ranch. Did you come because you smelled smoke, sir? Or opportunity?"
She wasn't foolish. Most hands that were offered to the needy came at a heavy price. It was entirely possible this man was no different. Offer assistance but at an exorbitant amount of coin. She leaned on the fence then, deciding to keep the dagger she carried concealed for the time being. Her slender arms folded over the rail as she watched the man curiously. Human perhaps...he didn't quite have the essence of an immortal. That effortless grace that rolled off them without even trying. "If you are here to help then I certainly hope you brought a stiff drink." Sadly she had forgotten her hearty drink back at the castle, and wine was a nasty substance that in her opinion was just a waste of good grapes.

'Neither, Miss," he replied to her inquiry. "I did not stop to bother you or seek to harm you in any way. I did see the smoke and was concerned as to whether or not someone was in need of any help or not. And yes, I have a flask of rye whiskey that I use for medicinal purposes," he cleared his throat as a way of not tasting the half truth he told her. "I would be happy top share some with you. May I get down off my horse?" he asked. The last thing he wanted was to appear as was an enemy as he was not. He was more than willing to help as well as get a closer look at the young woman. Her voice sounded pretty and he hoped the rest of her match it. Solara Ell Polst, Open

[blockqote] One of her brows rose as the man spoke. Medicinal. Right. Well, she took her medicine every night like a good little immortal then. "Medicinal you say?" She ask, not bothering to hide the teasing tone of her words. She was leaning against the fence now. Truly not far from where the man sat atop his horse. Her slender shoulders rose in a shrug that the man might or might not see. "As long as you bring the whiskey it makes no difference to me." She said, perhaps a bit carelessly.
Her stallion came over to curiously bump her shoulder and nibble at her bare arm with his lips. She pushed his dark nose away and turned her attention back to the seemingly harmless stranger, still watching him for any sign that he had an ulterior motive for his arrival. But Solara was no easy prey. Even if her training had been cut rather short she made up for it with sheer stubbornness.

"As long as you bring the whiskey it makes no difference to me."With a sigh Odom got down from his steed and, pulling out a leather flask from his saddlebag, he moved over to the burned timbers and held it out to her. "You'll find it a good quality whiskey taken from the kegs of my Father. Among many things he is also a brew master. I think you'll enjoy it. I know I do as do my brothers," he explained as it held the flask out to her. "If you like it you can have it. I can get more anytime I need it." He stood there as he waited, a smile on his handsome face. She might not have known it but he meant every word he told her. Solara Ell Polst , Open

Solara reached out to take the flask from his hand. Grinning a bit as she did so. "Oh? You and your brothers are ill often then?" She was certainly no one to point fingers at anyone who enjoyed their drink. She had quite the weakness for whiskey herself. "It's pretty late to try to do anything now Odom. But you are welcome to join me for a drink unless you have plans otherwise?" She took another sip, letting the liquid curl and burn on her tongue for a moment before swallowing it on down.
Her stallion snorted unhappily at the man's arrival, pinning his ears back in a way that made him look almost mule like. Solara reached out to pet his long face and shook her head at his antics. He could be like a watchdog at times. But she was rather attached to him, being her only remaining horse perhaps it was inevitable. Solara was watching the man closely, he was almost certainly human. She didn't pick up any signs that he was otherwise. But on occasion people surprised her.
"Correct me if I'm wrong, but you are human. Correct?"

"Oh? You and your brothers are ill often then?" An amused grin spread across Solara's face as he watched her take a drink from the leather flask. A sense of humor? A refreshing surprise for him. So many people act guarded when he first met them that he expected her to be no different. He had long ago expected the reaction that to get one otherwise was a pleasant surprise. "Well, it can also be used as a preventative to keep from becoming ill," he told her. "Personally, I am in extraordinarily excellent health and I owe it all to that drink." "It's pretty late to try to do anything now Odom. But you are welcome to join me for a drink unless you have plans otherwise?" Looking at the darkening sky he nodded in agreement. "Yeah, it is getting late. I think I will take you up on your suggestion," he nodded again. "When I go hunting I always bring my sleeping roll with me so I am always prepared, just in case." He wasn't sure how she would react to that but there was no hidden meaning in his words. He and his brothers were taught by their father to always be gentlemen towards the female persuasion. "Correct me if I'm wrong, but you are human. Correct?""Why, yes I am. You are very observant," he smiled. "I hope that's not an inconvenience." Solara Ell Polst, Open

"I see." She commented with a knowing smile. If his health was all due to this drink then it must be one hell of a drink. At the mention of his bedroll one of her shoulders rose in a small shrug. She may or may not sleep on this night, her kind was attuned with the darkness and while she was tired she wasn't completely content to fall asleep in the company of a complete stranger. Even a human.
She took another drink and eyed Odom strangely when he mentioned his race being an inconvenience. "No, living in the lands of Mir it would be pretty silly for me to have an issue with humans." Indeed all of her workers had been humans, then the attack had occurred. Solara settled down on a nice spot of grass and leaned back against the railing of the fence. One hand raising to motion Odom to take a seat.
"Come now, a lady cant drink alone." She handed over his flask to encourage him to get a drink as well. A grin on her lips. "So you are a hunter, Odom?"
