Djinn watched in shock as the man he had been trying to protect willingly walked back into the arms of his captors. "Are you that fucking stupid?" He snapped at Killian's back. His lips pulling thin at the sight of how roughly they snatched them up. Djinn had nothing against running. He did so, a lot. It was on par with his way of life. But tonight he didn't want to run. His staff glimmered in the pale light and he started to laugh ever so softly at his own stupidity. "Son of a bitch..." He grumbled to himself but then fell into an offensive pose, legs bent. One arm curling around his lance to cradle it. And then he lunged forward into the two men that would dare come for him. At the last moment twirling around so that his long weapon could crack the both of them and knock their heads together with an almost comical crunch. [break][break] Weightless. That would have been one way to describe how he moved. As if gravity had no hold on him. The moment his toes touched ground he was shoving off again. A leap and several quick steps carrying him quickly into one of the men that held Killian captive. His lance sank deep into the man's gut and a soft choked sound came from his lips. Djinn unceremoniously would shove him back and twirl his weightless land in his hand to sling the blood from it. [break][break] "WHAT TH-" [break][break] The last man who stood with Killian's arm twisted painfully being his back suddenly had a lance shoved through his neck. Severing his spine and ending him instantly. Without missing a beat Djinn forced his lance to dissipate into a puff of black particles and began walking. Roughly snatching Killian's arm as he stepped by him and attempting to drag the feline behind him. "What was that, Killian?" He ask lowly as he moved. The short little fight didn't bother him in the least. Once upon a time he had been a soldier after all. But that was a long time ago. He moved quickly, not once glancing back at the inn they had left nor the feline. Not yet. He didn't say another word, not one as they walked until he was certain they were far enough to be safe. [break][break] Without warning he would turn around and shove the werebeast roughly against the nearest tree. Not pinning him there and letting him go entirely, but those bright blue eyes of Djinn's would bore into him like ice. "I know you apparently don't have the backbone to fight against them but fuck Killian, I told you I'd protect you!" His words were harsh. His emotions unsually high. This wasn't Djinn, this wasn't the normal charismatic man who would have laughed and said 'that was fun'. This was a far deeper side to him that rarely saw the light of day. "I might be a goddamn cripple but don't you ever sacrifice yourself because of me, you hear me! Ever!" He was so upset that his entire body was vibrating with pent up energy even after the short little fight. His fingers curled over an imaginary lance and thumb rolled over his palm. His fingers pushing through his hair as he tried to ground himself, his emotions. He didn't like being like this. Out of control. Damn cat.

Was it wrong to think that this was the easy way out? Cause, in reality, it really was. He would go back get the beating and not think – or try to – about making it to the mountains like he said so dreamy to Djinn. It probably seemed like a silly thing to dream up but it was a big enough scenery change to satisfy the feline. However, of course, his Fae had to ruin said easy leave it be. Instead, the man was plowing through the four men like a hot knife through butter. As the man who held him got nervous, he twisted his arm in and around his back which caused him to wince but not cry out. Instead, his eyes watched his companion flawlessly take care of the workload like gravity didn’t exist. He was in awe by it, truthfully.
Much like the other men though, the one who held him was gone right along with his fellow comrades but before Killian could say a word he was yanked. Obediently he followed after the harsh tugging. He said nothing moving light on his feet after the fae until he was shoved and let go met with a rather grumpy man in his wake. He found it funny that most people didn’t think he had a backbone. That his obedient nature merely meant he was fearful… scared…. But what they didn’t realize it was intelligence. He knew what happened when one was rebellious just look at his dearest companion, Lucia. She was lost, thrown in a ditch somewhere. Besides that, if he was ever so obedient when he did do something his punishments were not nearly as severe as continuous offenders. The man keenly played his cards and picked fights where he knew he would be the one coming out on top. He didn’t need to boast about some hidden darkness he had deep seeded in him nor did he need to let others know it even existed because come a day…. They would really figure out just what kind of wild animal he really had.
His brow arched as he spoke of Killian giving himself up as a sacrifice and then once more protection. He wanted to laugh more out of frustration at being treated like he was a fragile woman. Did he not know what he has dealt with? Did he not know what it was like to become used to a life with pain? Taunting? To do things he didn’t want to but only because he was made to? Did he realize he didn’t have a soul… freedom…. So what was there to protect from when he had it done multiple times? ”It wasn’t a sacrifice, Djinn.” he said though his voice didn’t betray the coldness he honestly felt. Instead, it was even-keeled like he always was. So even and so serene. ”I did it because it was the intelligent thing to do. Despite what you may think those bastards won’t stop with just those four… or the next six…. Or the ten after that. They will keep coming and it all adds up to me getting caught anyways. Why raise myself in this falsehood of hope of freedom when I have none?” He tipped his head for a moment as he continued to watch him. He had never seen his fairy so in over his head, he was usually so jesting and sarcastic but something was wrong--- something…. Changed. ”You aren’t always going to be there to stop them. You can’t. It is physically impossible. If I expect to survive I have to play by the rules… their rules until I or someone else can break them from the inside out.”
Moving from the tree feeling his back tingle with sensations of pain he glanced over his shoulder for a moment. He didn’t want to go back. He wanted to stay here with Djinn. He wanted to see those mountains. ”and for the record, I don’t see you as crippled. I never have.” he said finally moving his gaze back towards him. ”I have always seen you as just Djinn.” He rubbed lightly at his wrist that had been harshly grabbed as he stood there pondering for a moment. It was a rather irritating question that kept coming to mind through this whole thing. How Djinn swore to have his back, to let him seek out freedom, to of course get so worked up he was seething with uncontrollable anger that was fueled with some kind of emotion. He didn’t understand. Maybe it was best he shouldn’t but the question came out anyways.
”Why does it matter to you….” there was more to that question but he cut it off. His lips thinning out as he let his hand drop back to his side. He wasn’t trying to anger him but he knew well he probably wasn’t making it better. There was nothing he could do about it though as it was obviously something Djinn had to work out for himself. He wanted to. He wanted to reach out to him and help slow that rapid heartbeat he could nearly hear thrumming in his chest. The quickening of his breath as he puffed it out of his nostrils… he, however, stood his ground not moving forward or backward just stood there with an unfinished question lingering in between them.

Djinn stared him down, listening to the words that in his mind were not from someone intelligent but someone defeated. "Because I can handle 10,20, 100. Whoever they want to send, Killian." He had never told the feline of his days at war, there were many things he hadn't told the man who he was now so determined to see free. Partially just because he himself never would be. But if he could let Killian get just a little taste then it was worth any price. He shoved his fingers through his hair and heaved a sigh as Killian went on to say he couldn't handle them. There was a tick in the corner of his eye as his aggravation mounted. Maybe...maybe he needed to try to get to Killian a different way. His blue eyes sliced to the side and Djin rolled his thumb over the soft groove in his palm that his lance had worn through years of use. "I told you I would protect you Killian and I will. But you have to let me." [break][break] He looked back at Killian then, his throat tightening even at the idea of talking about himself. He hated this. He hated all of this. He should have just walked away when he first found Killian in the woods. But he couldn't....because it was Killian. "You are so young Killian..." He said almost softly, his voice weighted and tired. Unlike before he didn't act as if his youth were something to be teased, but a gift. The feline said something then that made Djinn's eyes open wider momentarily before closing with a grin on his lips. "Good." [break][break] Why did he care? It was a good question really. Djinn stole coin and dropped it into the hands of others daily but it was rare he cared enough to actually get involved. He had walked by Killian every day, knowing the hell he lived but letting him sit there anyway. But seeing him out here looking so helpless, lost, and hurt. He couldn't just walk away, not again. Instead of answering him directly Djinn took a couple steps back and leaned against another tree, his hands shoving deep into his pockets and one leg cocking so that the toe of his boot pushed into the ground. [break][break] "You know I was an orphan?" He didn't say it trying to derive pity, he hated pity. But he was working around to something, something he hoped would stop the felines reckless actions and just let him keep him safe. "When I was born the war was still going full swing, both my parents died and it was just me and my sister with the other street kids. It wasn't bad, not really. The people of Niwerti offered the lot of us help as they could." He closed his eyes then and leaned his head back against the rough bark of the tree. "I thought I was big shit, who else could make a weapon appear out of thin air? My reality check came pretty fast." A cruel smile curled his lips. [break][break] "I was awake the entire time. Having my wings taken was..." He stopped for a moment, swallowing down the tide of memories that threatened to over take him. The pain...it had been so intense. He could still feel his wings being shredded. Could still hear the sickening laughter. Still taste the vomit on his tongue when the pain overwhelmed him. His eyes opened although half-lidded now, his body tense but not wired as before. "I cant just sit here and watch these assholes take your 'wings' Killian. Not when I know that you haven't even fucking used them yet." He ran one of his hands over his face and sighed. "Plus...your good in the sack so...having you around would be alright and all. I mean I only have so much gold I can spend on you." He tried to grin then but it was forced, an attempt to break the heavy tension between them.

He knew his way of survival was very different than his counterparts but this was also because they grew up in two different worlds. Djinn grew up in a world where he fought for his right to survive and for others to survive. Steal from the rich, give to the poor, create an equal balance. Whereas Killian didn’t grow up in a world like that. The panther had grown up in a world that beat defiance out of a subject. If you had an opinion it was best kept to yourself. If you broke rules you were severely punished or worse put to death. Neither world was easy. Both had their issues and both created the two men that stood in front of one another. ”BUT you don’t understand!..” emotion seeped in. It was accidental but it was there and almost immediately, he shut down. He turned his head away almost like he was expecting immediate retaliation for opening his mouth. Hazel eyes remained peering over his right shoulder but towards the ground, waiting, controlling. No less, Djinn made up for the sound that was left silent between them, telling him that he would do it if Killian would just let him.
”Getting hurt over me is stupid.” He said though his voice was tiny almost inaudible. Above nothing but a whisper. ”I just don’t understand..” He didn’t understand why Djinn would even want to. ”What makes me so suitable to be above everyone else that you could be helping.”
Why him.
What made him special above someone like Lucia or Larkin? Why was he more important than them? If anything they had more to live for right? No one would miss him if he were gone. No one would probably even notice so why does he deserve a chance when there were others who were far more deserving than he was?
Djinn’s next set of words made him frown a little bit look back towards him after a few more moments. Was that supposed to be an insult? Or a compliment? He watched as the man stood there for quite awhile in silence as if he was contemplating something. Killian didn’t make any move forward or back but stood there patiently waiting for him to formulate whatever was on his mind into words. He shook his head no at the question and listened as he began to tell the story he had waited to hear in all this time since knowing Djinn. He knew there was a story there, he also knew that Djinn was the way he was because of a reason. Like all of them, their past tended to shape the person who they are into today. His expression didn’t change all that much as he continued to listen until the last part when he said he didn’t want to watch him take his wings. That struck the panther a bit and his head once more dropped to peer down at the other man’s feet rather than his face. At his last set of words, a soft but genuine smile spread upon his lips but it quickly faded. ”Only good for a good time, huh.” It was a joke but part of it felt like the truth. That’s what he was used for right? From just about everyone, Djinn included?
He gave his head a small shake before dropping his shoulders from their tensed position. ”Okay.” Though he knew inevitably he would end up back in Cendra like always. Djinn couldn’t be with him all the time. Come a day he would be back but he kept that comment to himself. Lifting his hand he running it through his hair, he rubbed his the top of his head. Hazel eyes lifted again. ”Sooo we can stop pissing and moaning now and feel better about ourselves?” his expression lightened a little, taking a few short steps to stand in front of the leaning man against the tree. He wasn’t sure what it was or why but he was drawn to him…. Even if he was an asshole but hey most of the hot ones were.

This cat with his questions. Did he not value himself at all? Or so little that he couldn't see his worth? "Because you're different." Djinn said softly but didn't/wouldn't elaborate. Then after his story had been told Killian ask yet another question, or really it was more of a statement. "That sounds like me. Doesn't it?" He replied but looked away. He needed to build that wall back up. The one this damn cat had torn down without even trying. He laughed softly and shook his head when Killian shattered the remaining tension. "Sounds like a plan." He rumbled. But the steps that drew Killian closer caused him to turn back to him. To see that handsome face that he had been yelling at only minutes before.
"You can't see your worth can you Killian?" Djinn stepped forward then. Reaching out he let his thumb trail over his companions tan cheek, fingers lying softly just beneath his ear. And then he paused as if rethinking the movement. Blinking he pulled his hand back and began to walk, shoving his hands deep into his pockets to keep from letting his urges get the better of him again.
"Where should we go then?" He ask and looked up at the sky that was steadily brightening with the morning sun.
((Not sure if we were going to end this one soon so he could meet Solara and have them meet up again or what so I left it kinda open ended. Let me know if I should edit.))

Of course the more Djinn said the more he wanted to ask questions. However, for now, he supposed that would be enough to satisfy his brain for the time being. He stood there in front of him as he spoke but his expression made no change. Maybe it was just who Djinn was and yet he could see the silver lining around that dark cloud he was carrying around. The fae didn’t fool the cat. The cat could clearly see beneath that ruff and gruff that this man had so much possibility. Maybe it wasn’t just Killian who couldn’t see his worth but perhaps Djinn too?
He stood still as Djinn lifted his hand and touched the side of his face softly. ”No. I guess not…” It was almost reaction though, especially since they were arguing just moments before, that he would wince. Half expecting a nice slap on the side of the face and told to suck it up. However, it wasn’t a slap instead it was tender. His thumb running over his cheekbone causing his heart to speed up in pace. It was unusual. This weird anticipation he had. Though once more Djinn dropped his hand and started to head away and in a trance-like state the feline was following. He crossed his arms over his chest walking at a steady pace, giving a shrug. ”Where our feet take us.”
It was nice to have Djinn as a companion for now. Maybe he could help him figure out what his next step should be.
