Originally expected to be a twin, for twins had run in the family for several generations consistently, Ymir was a surprise from the start. A single baby with dark hair and dark eyes, they were originally called a she… Though after only a few months, one diaper change revealed an unexpected surprise. Ymir’s ability might be described as shape-shifting; originally uncontrollable, they have trained for years to dial in the ability to an on demand process. At will, they can convert their entire appearance between a male and female form. The changes are not mere illusions either; Ymir’s entire physical body changes in response to the ability: one person, with two physical bodies.



After many transitions, Ymir has a dedicated talent for focusing and can revert back forth in under a minute. In addition to this ability, the mage has a great skill with herbs… and poisons[break][break] Personality:

Ymir had a very normal childhood, though their mother, a Mermaid, passed when they were only quite young. As a result, they spent much time with their father and grandparents, initially, before their father swept their tiny family away from the coast in favor of returning to the Mage School, where her father was an instructor. That relocation itself made for an intense family rift, causing the Merfolk on Ymir’s mother’s side to come to loathe the Mage that was her father despite desperately longing for a closer relationship with Ymir.



For a long time, anxious feelings made it quite difficult for Ymir to have close relationships. Imagine an angsty teenage girl that was about to have her first kiss after a small interlude into the forest with a boy. Such an experience would easily be ruined if they got just a little too nervous, and reverted back to a masculine form. That aside, having a steady partner was difficult when you were able to revert between bodies, while your partner remained constant in one form. That difficulty was also worsened your partner commanded you to stay in only one body when both were equal extensions of yourself.



Over time, Ymir has come to control their ability with ease. Training beneath their father and mages at the school for a time, and a natural affinity for their talent, made it manageable. Now, they often times contribute to mentoring others, or developing their knowledge of herbs and poisons. Ymir currently does not have a preference to their male or female form per se, though each has their benefits and uses. Ymir carries many entertaining stories and anecdotes both from when the switch startled their friends and family when they were younger, and how more recently it has been used to explore and interact with new people.



Ymir has longed to meet and spend more time among the Merfolk half of their family, though until recently, leaving teaching had not been something their father permitted. It was only within the last several years that he passed after an accident, and she got recruited spying, that the option became a viable one. [break] [break] Miscellaneous:

Ymir tends to dress androgynously, though at times has been known to exploit the finer styles of dress for either of their forms.

Ymir's mage mark, the alchemical symbols for salt, mercury, and sulfur - representing the cohesion of mind, body, and spirit - is tattooed vertically on Ymir’s outer wrist on their left hand
