[attr="class","SScontent2temp1"] Magical Ability:
Connor’s touch brings sickness; whether or not it brings death is another story entirely. The young, sick, and elderly are at increased risk of suffering his plague. Why the Goddess of the Night gave him this gift is unbeknownst to him, though after so many millennia, two things are clear: each death his abilities cause is required to fuel his Immortality, and the memories of those who die are sure to haunt him to some degree after those victims pass. It is difficult to know who will be infected as even after his long life as an Immortal, Connor has some difficulty in controlling the ability outwardly. In times of heightened duress, he seems particularly inclined to infecting others.
The infection itself usually manifests as some type of respiratory issue. On the weak end of the spectrum, this might just mean that those closest to him suffer from colds after prolonged contact with him – just a sneeze, cough, or a runny nose. Like with hypothermia or almost any traditional illness, however, the longer one is exposed, the increased likelihood they might fall ill. This is how several of his fragile, mortal lovers have died in the past: after a romp in the hay or a romantic interlude in the tavern over a weekend, they might pick up a cough, which eventually evolves into raspy, gurgly breathing and oozing sores spreading from their lungs to their mouth. Eventually, the sores rupture to leak a type of black tar substance, sealing off the airways entirely leaving the victim to quietly suffocate. By this time, he has been liable to do two things: disappear, leaving the family to burn the body for fear of a plague being unleashed or dispose of the bodies himself.
He doesn’t make a point of telling many people about this ability. After all, friends aren’t liable to stick around if they suspect you might inadvertently murder them – especially if they knew it brought a sickening, euphoric satisfaction to you as they passed on. Those closest to him, primarily his father and sister, are aware of the consequences of his Death-Touch; he has told nobody still living of the euphoria he experiences. To most individuals, he simply identifies that he is one of the few who was not blessed with a gift from his Immortality.
[break] [break] Appearance:
Tall, looming, brooding. Connor is a man with dark brown hair and sun-tanned skin, and a body rippling like a coiled spring, ready to pounce at any notice. He has piercing, dark brown eyes flecked with amber, and a deep voice that can come off surprisingly velvety, or sharp as a whip when he issues orders. He is known commonly to almost always wear gloves, and always dons a knife in a sheath hidden at the small of his back. Another is typically always found in his boot.
[break] [break] Personality:
Despite his role as the Commander of the Immortal Army, Connor is for the most part charming. He is somewhat coarsely honest and occasionally sharp with his words, but his perception and awareness of those around him typically afford him benefit in resolving discourse brought by these traits. To many, his is the picture stoic calm: serious and unexcitable, though pleasant. He quite enjoys strategic analysis and loves games. He may also be described as calculating, cunning, intellectual, and particularly ruthless in waging war. Killing comes naturally to him, though the satisfaction and pleasure he derives from it remains largely hidden to the outside eye. His pragmatic nature and lack of remorse following death is perhaps the most unnerving thing about him.
Like his sister, he is not above using his charms to get the things that he wants. He quite enjoys his time with his lovers, albeit selfishly due to his unpredictable power. He has lost more than one lover to his talents, and those are perhaps the most haunting of the souls which have fed his Immortality.
To the outside world, the strategist might appear reckless, particularly following headlong binges into merriments. Internally, pretty men and women, and savory drink, have been perhaps the safest avenues he has sought in attempts to escape the voices and memories which build up in plaguing his mind.
Traditionally, knowing that strong physiological responses triggers his ability and in turn the blood lust tied to it, Connor has maintained a calm demeanor with meditation, prayer, and emotional compartmentalization. While he does not necessarily care if people die around him, for the thought is quite tantalizing, the idea of too many internal voices too quickly is aggravating to consider [break] [break] History:
Connor was born to his Immortal mother and was the adoptive child of a yet unnamed father. The memories of his life before the time he ceased aging all but absent, though he might like to know what in his mortal life he did to prompt his Immortality being gifted with his self-proclaimed curse. Without knowing, he has resigned himself to the potentiality of never finding out the reason. [break]
In his 2500 years, Connor has sought out new challenges every few centuries after boredom taints his activities. As such, he’s tried both humble and scholarly pursuits, and even once spent several centuries refining his skill as a minstrel. (His talent for song is far superior to his skill on the harp). One inescapable draw, however, has been his fixation on combat.
[break]
He has made a point to change identities several times to study under talented Mortals and Immortals alike, disappearing and dropping all contacts with his family each time. This was mostly achieved through careful selection of his teachers, and care in his disguises. Primarily, Connor sought to work with individuals who advocated for a more isolationist or anti-war approach, or those individuals who essentially chose to rebel against their people in favor of anti-war sentiment. As a product of such extensive training, and with what is perhaps his most defining talent, he has a gift for weapons and a refined knowledge of strategy. His weapon of choice is the sword and dagger and has been for quite some time. The uses of such weapons, however, have been questionable. A penchant for theft, threat, and acting even as a mercenary were the reasons why new identities were needed as he sought to apprentice under new experts. Another reason to keep up his façade, and something which not even his family knows of, are the deaths of each of his mentors. The strength of each fed his Immortality, bringing a toe-curling euphoria each time Connor finally bested them at their own skills and watched them later die of infection. In the two three centuries, he has not repeated these experiences, given his current challenge of ascending ranks in the military and maintaining his position as Commander of the Immortal Army. He had a point to prove by enlisting, and seeking to best all those beneath him. Nevertheless, that recklessness and blood lust remain expertly hidden but not forgotten. Such traits were things lost on his mother in her life, and his entire family following her death, which lurk in the shadows of his conscious waiting to be unleashed.

Connor’s family was not simply a single Immortal woman. Alongside his still-living father, he has two other siblings: a brother and a sister. Following his mother’s death (he was already 1280 at the time) a sense of loyalty developed in his relationship to the older Immortal that he called his father. Though Connor wouldn’t necessarily describe them as the closest, he has always hoped for the best for the man, and in some ways that he might not consciously admit, has pursued his approval. Of course, this is difficult when disappearing, hiding centuries of time from one’s existence, and disguising blooming blood lust and head sickness.
[break]
Regardless, at the present his father is one of the few Connor has sought to “do right by”. The other, though he would never admit it, is his sister, Rhea. He has been far from the “protective big brother” to her, preferring to watch her rise from her own failures, though he does care for her. He is also loyal to his majesty the King, the soldiers beneath him, and takes pride in his role as Commander of the Immortal Army, even if sneaking around in common people’s clothes and repeating unscrupulous activities that might one day cause him to lose his role
[break]
It should be noted that his appointment as Commander of the Immortal Army came following the death of the old Commander. After 190 years in combat, he and the king had forged a type of respect and bond acquired only through the "brotherly shedding blood" - ie: saving each other in combat. He had not exactly expected for the old Commander to be struck down when he did, though his promotion prompted through his loyalty to the King was not unwelcome. After 110 years, he has yet to grow bored in his role. [break] [break] Miscellaneous:
One of the only things Connor really cares about is a spirited, painted mare that he acquired after an inadvertent meeting with a very reputable horse-breeder that he also had a casual fling with. He takes bride in his weapons, combat abilities, and has been known to also enjoy his drink. He favors pretty women and the occasional man; regardless of gender, he respects people who have the will to stand up to him
