Words | It was hours before the first rays of sunlight would warm the city. But Olwyn was already up and about. Her father needed assistance. He could move about the house well enough as he had learned the location of their meager furniture. Olwyn was careful not to leave anything new about or move anything that her blind father might run into. After fixing him a breakfast from a few eggs she kissed him atop his graying head and hurried to get herself put together for the day ahead. She didn’t bother trying to look beautiful. She had no suitors. No one wanted to ‘burden’ of caring for her father. And Olwyn would not leave him to his own devices. To starve and wander around helpless and alone. Only someone heartless could do such a thing.
She was a little behind and thus she didn’t bother braiding her hair. Instead she just left the unruly pale locks to cascade down her back and shoulders. A thin white dress was slipped over her slender body and stepped out the door. They had a small house on the outskirts of the city. Their small area was made of mostly of humans…although it was possible Olwyn wouldn’t have known otherwise even if her neighbors were of the more exotic variety.
As she walked along in her loose fitting sandals she tried to remember whom had called upon her yesterday. And then remembering where those ladies or gentlemen had lived. It was mostly more well to do women than herself. Women who had fine dresses that felt like heaven beneath her fingertips. Dresses that were ornate and beautiful. But those dresses were often delicate…and that was where she came in.
Olwyn reached the house of her first customer and waited as the woman dug out the dress to drop it unceremoniously into her arms. Olwyn’s green eyes blinked with surprise and she looked up to see the older woman starting to lecture her on just how she wanted the dress sewn…oh and to not get it filthy in that hovel she called a home. Oh…and she wanted it back by tomorrow. Olwyn bit her lip and nodded. Feeling her cheeks burn from the woman’s careless words. Perhaps her home wasn’t beautiful…But she had a roof that didn’t leak and her and her father were always well fed….So…in her book….she was doing just fine. In the end she gave the woman a polite smile and headed on her way. Folding the dress over one arm as she hurried on to the next house that was a street over. Well…that had been her plan anyway.
It was still rather early morning. The streets shown almost orange beneath the new sun. Shadows were everywhere….and from one such shadow an arm suddenly shot out and snatched her. Pulling her into the darkness before she could even struggle. She was shoved against the building roughly, her back hitting the clay stones with enough force to knock the wind from her lungs. The large mans hands slipped down her sides…though it wasn’t her body he had on his mind…rather the tiny coin purse that hung there.
She coughed and tried to push him away but felt him roughly yanking the small satchel from her side. She had dropped the dress in the struggle and it was being trodden upon by the both of them. “Wait please! Just don’t take it all, please!” There was a weeks worth of pay in that tiny purse…and she had the intention of going to the market to buy some new material and sew her father some new clothes. Maybe buy him one of those sweet baked rolls that he loved so much. She tried to grab for the purse but the man was now annoyed. He had hoped for a quick grab and to disappear before drawing attention…but this little woman clinging to him and begging was bound to garnish plenty.
His hand flew forcefully back and caught her on the cheek. A harsh smack that caused her to yelp and loose her footing. ”Let me go you fool!" He snapped when one of her hands snagged the loose leg of his pants. Desperation fueled the fire. The need to keep what was in that purse. But an angry snort and a swift kick left her on her knees as the man hurried away down the alley. Glancing nervously over his shoulder to see if anyone was going to try to follow him.
Olwyn coughed and wiped a bit of blood from her swollen lip. She slowly moved into a sitting position and that’s when she noticed the dress. The now irreparable dress….How would she ever pay the woman back? That dress probably cost more than she earned in a year. Olwyn again wiped her bloody lip and fought back the tears that cast a sheen to her eyes. Looking down the dark alleyway she wondered what could make anyone so desperate and cruel.

In the end we all fall down ❝ It was a political nightmare, being here like this. The Queen had come to the human lands unannounced and undercover. Often she liked to walk among other races and see what they were like where it was permitted. The humans didn't always ask so many questions when they saw cloaked figures moving through their streets like others might. They certainly were a busy lot, always something going on despite how early you were wandering the streets. Their streets were not the winding forest paths she was used to or the intricate Elven architecture but she found them beautiful none the less. On her tail marched two cloaked swordsman, watching in case something went awry. The trio silently padded down the street taking in the sights and sounds of it all. There was no specific goal in mind today, no reason for being. A soft smile caressed her features as she thought of this. It was sometimes tiring to be royalty, to have every decision analyzed and have to solve every problem. There were times where she just wanted to blend in, to get away. She could not do that in her kingdom but here she could. The King was aware she did this, loathed it, but he could not stop her and so he decided to warily support it. They wandered aimlessly for hours until they heard a commotion down an alley way. Normally they would not have intervened, her swordsman. Yet they knew the Queen's heart and if they did not she would. Both turned in unison as one drew his sword and advanced on the fleeing thief. Cold Elven steel touched his throat as he was forced to a stop. Slowly the unnamed swordsman slide the length of his blade along the man's neck as a warning. " I believe you have something that does not belong to you." a soft feminine voice spoke out. The second swordsman moved aside to reveal a smaller cloaked figure who was more than a couple heads shorter. The man was willing to risk his own life to get away with his meager prize however. He nicked his own neck as he barreled into the two elven men and took off past them. The two elven men took off after him in the attempt to recover whatever was taken on behalf of their queen. Instead of following them, however, Luiniel made her way down the alley towards the human. She approached as closely as she dared and looked down at her. A frown showed on her lips, one of the few features that could be made out from beneath the low hanging hood. " Are you alright?" she asked. Her voice was melodic, soft and had somewhat of an accent to it. She knew it was not the physical harm that the girl was suffering from. Her movement seemed alright enough to show that she was not wounded. Her eyes moved to the dress that lay in ruins on the ground. Not only did she lose whatever that man took but a beautiful gown lay in dirty ruining it's fine fabric. " Is there anything I can do to help?" she asked. A total stranger needed her help, it did not matter if they were acquainted or not, she was going to help. MADE BY MINNIE OF FTS & GS

Words | It was a bitter pill to swallow. The loss of her hard earned coin and the spoiled dress as well. She wasn't even certain how to address the issue. It wasn't as if she afford to purchase such fine silks to replicate it. The sound of a scuffle in brought her attention back up to see the man who had robbed her struggling with two men before taking off again. She felt a pang in her gut but it wasn't physical. More of a mental twinge when she noticed the red smear on his dirty skin. The man must truly be desperate.
A lithe person heavily cloaked moved down the alley toward her and Olwyn pushed herself to her feet. Trying in vain to dust the dirt from her clothing. The back of her hand moving over her swollen lip in an attempt to wipe away the blood. The voice of the figure surprised her though. Heavily veiled as they were she hadn't known if the person was male or female. But the soft timbre of a feminine voice reached her ears and the human girl quickly shook her head. "Yes I am. Just shaken." She could see the downward angle of the woman's lips but little else. She didn't seem like one of the citizen's of Cendra which wasn't really very surprising. The city received much traffic and had quickly become a hub for the races.
Olwyn was reaching down to get the once beautiful gown when the woman spoke again. Slowly she shook her head and forced a nervous smile. "I don't think anyone can help this dress now. I will have to work something out with her, maybe a payment plan of some sort." Realizing that she was prattling on to a perfect stranger who knew absolutely nothing about her trade her green eyes quickly flicked to the ground as a nervous blush spread across her cheeks. "Forgive my yammering. I'm a seamstress by trade." A slight tilt of her head was given as she contemplated. Curious about the stranger but not wishing to overstep.
"Are you visiting Cendra? Many travel through." Her eyes turned in the direction the two guards and the man had went. Her hand raising to brush her thumb across her swollen bottom lip again. Only a tiny smudge of blood this time. "But not many travel with guards." A wry smile with a shake of her head. Blonde locks falling messily around her face. "Although it seems like a very smart idea."

In the end we all fall down ❝ The woman before her seemed to be quite tough, she could take a blow or two. Still she did not wish that on anyone regardless of what they could do. She would have felt uncomfortable being examined so closely if not for the cloak. There was a small chance she would be recognized at a glance but she did not wish to take the risk if she could avoid it. Her hands remained down at her side while she looked from the dress back to the woman before her. It was such a shame that such a lovely dress was ruined by a brute. " Then I am glad you have escaped with little personal injury." she said. Despite what had happened the woman seemed more concerned about the garments on the ground. Luiniel found it odd but there was most likely a story that she did not have. She did not have to wait long for it or pry as the woman before her offered it freely. A seamstress explained quite a bit about the situation- now the dress was her responsibility. Slowly her right hand vanished into her left sleeve as she rummaged around for something. When her hand found purchase, the sound of a coin purse jingling could be heard. Of course she had to offer even if it was not accepted. " I would be more than happy to cover your loss. You have already been through enough today it would seem." she said softly. She withdrew her hand and showed her the pouch she held in her hand. It was quite full but she had brought more than enough to get what she was after even if she gave it away. But of course she was probably not so trustworthy either remaining hidden beneath a traveling cloak. As she held it out to her she slowly reached up and removed the hood that obscured her face. When her hood fell back her raven hair came spilling out over her shoulders. There was a warm smile on her face as she continued to hold out the money. At this point there was no hiding what she was but she felt that she could trust that she was not going to harm her. Her pointed ears poked out from beneath her long dark hair and she seemed to have a slight glow about her. " I am just passing through. But I love this part of the world. I like to see how people live outside of my home." she said with a laugh. She was not going to lie but she was not going to give her the truth either if she pried any further. The armed guards were hard to explain away so she would simply choose not to go down that road any further. " Mm, yes well one cannot be too careful anymore right? Ah, I'm sorry, it is not like you need a reminder.." she said. The queen actually blushed for a moment feeling stupid. MADE BY MINNIE OF FTS & GS

The sound of coin drew her gaze down to where the woman pulled a bag of coin. The words that followed however caused Olwyn to quickly shake her head and smile. Holding up one of her hands to decline. "Thats a very kind offer but I cant accept it." No. She wouldn't let anyone else bear the weight of her responsibilities. She would figure this out...somehow. The woman had drawn back her hood Olwyn could now see that she was quite beautiful. Appearing finely boned and elven with her pointed ears that jutted out from her mass of dark hair.
Despite Cendra being a hub for the other races she still mostly saw and interacted with humans. Although she was very curious about the other races the strangers she did encounter didn't seem like the tolerant type to put up with a bunch of curious questions from a naive human girl. She listened to the elven woman speak with a small smile on her lips. She wasn't from here. And Olwyn found herself curious what it was like where she was from. She had never been outside of Cendra. Even when her mother was alive their farm had been just outside the city. Beyond that? She had no knowledge but her curiosity was boundless.
"Is it different then? Where you are from?" She couldn't help but ask. Curiosity killed the cat. "I haven't been anywhere but Cendra...its hard to imagine anywhere different." While she spoke her fingers slipped over the ruined garment thoughtfully. Feeling the stretched and torn fabric give beneath her fingertips.
The sight of the stranger blushing made her smile and Olwyn quickly shook her head. The action making it spin for a moment and she blinked until the dizziness passed. "No, no. Its alright." she gently touched her lip and frowned when she felt the swollen tissue. At least her father wouldn't be able to see it to ask questions. She didn't want to worry him. "He must have been very desperate to act in such a way." She reasoned. "Its the first time anything like this has ever happened to me here." A soft shrug of her pale shoulders was given and Olwyn reached up to brush a pale lock of hair back away from her eyes.
"They wont...hurt him...will they?" She ask referring to the men that had been accompanying her.

In the end we all fall down ❝ Luiniel knew that would be the answer before she had even offered. She could not blame the woman for wanting to get out of this herself. Being indebted to a stranger was not an appealing situation. Yet she wanted nothing in return for the offering of coin she made. Perhaps there was another way to fix the situation for her. " Then maybe you could show me around Cendra? Then it would not be something for nothing." she said. Of course a seamstress was most likely always busy. Perhaps she could help her out, it would be a nice change from her usual day. She replaced the money back into it's hiding place while she considered the girls question. Cendra and her home were entirely different in landscape and the way it was built. Elves built with nature, everything sort of had a flow to it without disrupting. Humans had a habit of clearing everything away when they built. " It is very different. More trees and rivers. While we have stone paths, a lot of our roads are still dirt paths. Some even have homes built right into the trees." she said happily. She did not mind speaking of her homeland. " Everywhere has it's charm. If you ever have the chance I recommend travel some day." she added, beaming. The kindness of this woman seemed to be overflowing. To even consider that the man was desperate when she was wronged. " After what he is done you care about his well being?" she asked. There was a puzzled look on her face. She understood forgiveness in some circumstances but this one she did not quite have all of the information to make that choice. Luiniel was not about to make that choice for the girl, however, and so she shook her head. " That choice is up to you. They will not do anything unless I will it so." and the look on her face showed sincerity. The point of this trip was to downplay her own importance and blend in but it was quickly moving away from that. Her head turned to and fro inspecting the alley before she decided a change of scenery might be better. " Maybe we could finish your rounds? I will keep you company and assist in any way I can. My friends will find me." she said with a laugh. MADE BY MINNIE OF FTS & GS

"You make it sound so beautiful. I cant really see travel in the cards for me, but maybe one day." At the mention of the man Olwyn turned her gaze away from the elven woman at her reply. "Foolish maybe. But yes. Many people struggle here, I can understand his desperation." Although truthfully she was lucky. Certainly she would sew until her fingers bled and her back ached. But her and her father had a home that was their own. And while the food on their table might not be of the finest sort they didn't starve. Compared to many others they were doing well.
"So...please don't harm him. But I would like my coin back if possible." A mirthless laugh then. To the idea of accompanying her on her rounds Olwyn wasn't sure how to react. It was a surprising request but after a moment Olwyn smiled and nodded. "Some company would be welcomed." Remarkably in a city this size she could still find herself lonely. A little companionship would be a welcome change. And perhaps she could learn more about this place she would never see.
With the ruined garment folded over her arm Olwyn began to walk. Glancing toward the pretty elf to see if she was actually planning to follow. "We had a farm when I was but a child. I miss living outside the walls. The air just seemed...pure. Here it can be almost suffocating at times. You live within the Aelfmenn Kingdom? Did I say that right? I've heard mention of it in passing. Truthfully I know very few elves." Realizing how brash her words might have sounded she was quick to turn to the stranger. "I-I don't mean that in a rude way, I just don't have any elven neighbors or customers. But with a city like the one you described I cant say I would choose Cendra either." It was then that Olwyn realized she hadn't introduced herself.
"Oh! Where are my manners. I'm Olwyn Coombs." She held out her hand but when her eyes fell on the smudges of blood and dirt she brought it back with a bashful smile. "Sorry."

In the end we all fall down ❝ If they returned with the man, she would do as the woman requested. She was not sure of the choice but far be it from her to stand against it. If the woman decided that it was not worth corporeal punishment then she would not inflict it upon him. While she was normally a kind person, she could be particularly harsh when it came to justice and punishment. Everyone deserved a chance until they were caught in the act. Luiniel shook her head, coming back to reality and the matter at hand. The sad way she spoke of lands she might never see somehow made Luiniel feel guilty for even answering the question. Falling into step with her while she spoke, Luiniel seemed to be in thought. No one deserved to go through life with a dream unfulfilled, especially not one that was so easily accomplished. " It is never foolish to show mercy to someone, even if they do not deserve it." she finally replied. If anything it made the girls company even more appealing than it had been before. Were she an Elf she would have made a great moral compass in an advisory role. She loved to do things that stirred the nobility into a panic but appointing a human into political affairs was not something she was ever insane enough to consider. " If it is in the stars we will see your situation put right. I will be sure to grant your request that no harm comes to him. He will be handed over to your city guards, we will let the law decide." she said. Of course that could also be more cruel than just a swift beating. Still she felt that justice had a need to be done in some form here. Best to remove him from the streets so that he did not repeat the act against someone else. Her eyes lit up as the woman went on to speak of a farm, of the purity of living away from cities. She never knew such things, Lu had always lived in the largest city in her kingdom. She laughed gently, nodding her head. " I can imagine that must have been lovely. Out there where the fumes from the forges and the smell of bodies densely packed into one place do not overwhelm." she said with a grin. Truth be told she would have chosen to remain just a normal elven girl were it not for the king. She might have known these things for herself, now she was stuck tied up in political problems. " I do live in the Aelfmann Kingdom, your pronounciation is correct. As beautiful as I make it sound, it too has it's own share of problems that make me long for the open country side." she admitted. When the Olwyn became flustered she could not help but giggle. She was not offended in the slightest. Her posture remained unchanged as did the expression on her face. " Our kind does not do well outside of the forests. We often end up living a life that is.. far less pleasant than one hopes. It comes as no surprise that you have no come upon many Elves." she said. When the dirty, bloodied hand was extended to her she looked down at it for a moment. If she were to get blood on the sleeve of her gown she could not so easily explain that away when she returned home. But at the risk of not being rude she took the hand in her own anyway. The sleeves of her gown were now visible and clearly made from elaborate and expensive silks. " You may call me Luiniel. At the risk of sounding rude, I apologize but I cannot give you my surname. Safety and all. My companions would take issue with it." she said sheepishly. Now that introductions were out of the way perhaps they could start to become comfortable in each others presence. " Do you only repair clothing or do you craft your own?" she asked, genuinely curious. MADE BY MINNIE OF FTS & GS

Olwyn was unsure how to respond to the beautiful elven woman's kind words so instead of speaking she dipped her head with a small smile. Appreciating that she wasn't lectured or 'taught'. There were some who wanted to much to push their way of thinking on others. It was just hard for her to see the darkness in others, even when it was right in front of her face. At the woman's explanation that the man would be turned over to the guards Olwyn nodded slowly but inwardly wondered if that were not a cruel fate in itself. He could lose a hand or a finger for thievery, or just rot away in a cell. But she didn't speak her concerns. Instead she swallowed them down and tucked the worry into a hollow in her gut.
Hearing the stranger speak of the elven kingdom again would have made Olwyn's ears perk if it were physically possible. As it was she paid rapt attention to not miss a detail. She had always imagined the elven lands to be all open and earthy. Thinking now though she could see how unrealistic that ideal was. Of course a city was still a city, even if differently formed. Olwyn couldn't read. Given her status it was something she had never had the time nor teacher for. Otherwise maybe she would have read some books about elves and their lore. As it was word of mouth was all she could depend on.
The sound of her melodic giggle was like a balm to Olwyn's nerves. She had been so afraid she might have offended her and was relieved that she had not. She briefly clasp the elf's hand. Her green eyes falling down to see the beautiful sleeve that was brightly colored and obviously of expensive fabric. Given that she had been traveling with armed men Olwyn wasn't overly surprised. Perhaps she was a noble or something. She wasn't particularly fluent in the twists and turns of court hierarchy.
"Luiniel." She repeated. Loving the way the name flowed over her tongue. It was so elegant yet free in its enunciation. "Thats a beautiful name." She continued to walk with Luiniel near. Her gaze flicking back to her at the question. "Umm, both. But more often that not I simply repair clothing for others. I sew all of my father's clothing and mine as well. But there are few noble women who would be excited about the designs of a peasant." She smiled. Not bothered in the least by what she had said. It was true, she simply wasn't current with the fashions and trends. She was much to busy to focus on such things.
It didn't bother her that she couldn't have Luiniel's surname. Although it did peak her curiosity a bit. Was she in danger here? "What is it that you do in Aelfmenn? Although I imagine many occupations would be like the ones here, if different in one way or another." She appeared lost in thought for a moment before quickly dragging herself back. "Forgive me, my mind wanders." She stepped up into the doorway of one of the nicer homes. Her pink reddened knuckles knocking on the heavy wood until an older woman answered the door.
"You're late."
There was no recognition of the swollen bloodied lip or the general disheveled look of the girl. But of course it wasn't expected. No one wanted to hear the helps woes. She stepped back away from the door and Olwyn gave Luiniel a fleeting smile before the human appeared. Suddenly a basket of laundry was deposited unceremoniously in Olwyn's arms. "Now there is a lot so don't forget anything. The pants need hemmed, they are too long for my younger son. The shirt has a rip in the elbow-but I cant remember which. And the dress needs to be taken out. It must have shrunk in the wash because I know I haven't gained weight with all the work I do." She heaved a sigh and ran a hand through her silver hair. Giving the elf woman at Olwyn's side a curious glance she then shut the door without a goodbye.
Unperturbed Olwyn turned around and slipped the basket under one arm. "I appreciate you coming with me. But if you are concerned for my safety I'm sure I will be fine. I've never been robbed before."

In the end we all fall down ❝ She found it a kindness that Olwyn used her name giving her the chance to correct her if need be. This entire encounter had given her more reason to smile than she had found in the last few years. It was refreshing, these interactions with the people of this world and not nobles. It was funny to her that she did not consider the noble men and women in any country to be the people. In most realms they were greed, arrogance and often the reason for a countries failings. If there was any hope for a lasting peace it was to be found among the common people who tried to make their homes better despite harsh conditions. Once more she found herself lost in thought, her eyes moved back to Olwyn slowly. " Thank you, Olwyn. Your name reminds me of home. The sounds are very Elvish." she said. She hoped that it was a compliment since the woman seemed to be tolerating her presence. It was popular in Elven naming to end a name in -iel or in -wyn. Luiniel wanted to capture this moment in her mind for the journey home so she might reflect on it. That there was a light in Cendra showed that it was not what she was told it was by her peers. If they were wrong about this place then how many other lands had grown more welcoming over the years? " Ah, yes, I could see that being a problem. Silly how we divide ourselves with titles is it not? I am sure your work is equally as lovely as someone in the circle." she said. Lu knew it was a matter of time before the question came and she was preparing to answer it the best she could. Then, when she opened her mouth, she decided to say it jest to see if she believed or not. " Well, Olwyn, I am the Queen of Aelfmann." she said. There was a slight pause where she looked fairly serious before the threat of smile was noticeable. Then she started to laugh at what she had said as if it were somehow funny, a joke. She would leave it up to the girl to decide whether or not to take it as a joke or the truth. Why would a queen roam the streets of Cendra without fanfare and a huge procession. Their reception was less than pleasant when Olwyn arrived to take a noble woman's garments. How did she manage to do this day after day with such little respect? It was from the blood of this woman's fingers that she was able to maintain her holier than thou appearance to the public. Anger swelled in her breast as she meant to say something but she was cut off by the door abruptly slamming in their faces. She blinked for a moment and seemed rather confused by how that all went down. " Is it like this for you ever day? That was quite rude and I'd have some pretty strong words for her.." she said, smile vanished into a scowl. Holding out her arms in offer of her aide, Lu shook her head at Olwyn. " Clearly you are fine on your own. I came along to assist you while we wait to hear the fate of your money." she said evenly. From where she stood though she did not feel that statement was one hundred percent true. She should have had a way to hide her coin, she needed traveling tips even for the streets of her own city. " Could I suggest something though? Maybe a hidden spot to carry your money?" she suggested. For a seamstress that would be no trouble at all. She did not want to seem too forward but she had to ask this next question because she was really curious. " So do you put up with the rudeness and the cold glares because of your father?" she asked looking a bit embarrassed for having asked so bluntly. MADE BY MINNIE OF FTS & GS

(Sooooo sorry about the wait on this! My muse has been so finicky lol)
"My name sounds elvish?" She was surprised but it wasn't displeasure that lined her words, rather an unbridled excitement that perhaps her name was a little more exotic than she had ever assumed. Who would have thought that her human parents would have given her a name that sounded elvish? She would have to ask her father about it later. Her mother though had always been curious about the wilderness and the races that called it home. Perhaps it had been her idea. At the compliment Olwyn smiled and turned her green eyes away, not knowing how to react to such a compliment.
Olwyn looked over at Luiniel when she said she was queen. Was that why she had the guards then? Olwyn's lips parted in a lesser jaw dropping reaction and she found herself at a loss for words. But when a curious smile and a laugh followed she forced a nervous chuckle of her own. Utterly lost and confused but not wanting to ask for clarification and look silly. "Oh well.." She said while still forcing amusement.
After she had gathered garments from the noble woman and turned around Olwyn was met by surprising words from the elven woman. She smiled and shook her head. "It's not so horrible. She is probably just having a rough day." But inwardly she did feel a seed of spite for the way she was treated at times. "Harsh words can only hurt me if I let them." She contemplated Luiniel's suggestion and nodded, her pale brows pushing together in thought. "That is actually a wonderful idea....a hidden pocket would be an unseen target." She hefted the basket higher and looked at the outstretched arms uneasily. After a bit of shuffling she managed to wriggle the tattered dress down her arm and hand it over. There was no way she would offer the woman the basket. She looked even smaller than Olwyn, more dainty although looks could easily be deceiving. "Thank you." She said after handing over the ruined dress.
Olwyn had began walking again but stopped at the woman's question. One that struck her speechless and caused her to stare until she tore her gaze away. "My father needs me, yes. But it is also just part of the trade. Few seamstresses are treated kindly." As far as she was aware anyway. "What would getting angry at them get me?" One pale shoulder lifted in a shrug. "The way I see it is that its just better to let these things go. At the end of the day these people put food on our table. If they want to be a little grumpy I can tolerate it." She laughed softly and began walking again. Hiking the basket higher up on her hip as she moved. "Can I ask what you do? Or maybe just something you like to do or are skilled at? I feel like I know so little but you know so much." She smiled to show that her words meant no ill intent and continued walking.

In the end we all fall down ❝ Her reaction was a welcome surprise in a world where people could not see beyond their own. The smiling soon became incredibly infectious and she could not resist yet another. That there were people in this world that were not haunted by the strife of the past age was a nice reminder. Being a long lived race everyone had some sort of ghost that lingered from a conflict that most did not want. While she would not go so far as to think her heart was pure, as it were, she still found it remarkable. " Yes it does indeed. If you were announced to me before I saw you, I would have made the assumption." she said. Lu was a terrible liar and most of the things she said were laced with clues almost too blunt to not give it all away. Lu took the tattered dress from her as she watched heft the heavy basket into her arms. No doubt this girl was much stronger than she appeared as well heaving peoples clothes about all day. But now was not the time for such idle thoughts, she needed to decide now how much to say to her. Perhaps out of her love of a reaction, boredom or even loneliness she decided to be up front about it. Surely this girl was trustworthy enough that she would not do anything to endanger either of them. " I spend most of my day riding horses. Tending to public affairs, solving Aelfmann's problems. If you're going to trust me enough to help you then I guess I can return the favor." she said. There was a momentary pause as she looked about to make sure no one else was listening. " ..but I am actually the Queen. I've sort of slipped away to see things in an unofficial capacity." she said with a thoughtful expression. With that off her chest she felt that she could answer questions a bit more directly than she otherwise would have. No doubt it changed the way the girl would interact however. She shook her head gently, looking up at the sky for a moment to judge the weather. " Your approach to your position in life is admirable. I thought I had patience but it seems I did not truly understand the word until I met you. To care for the elderly, suffer harsh words and even robbery to make a living." she said. This was the sort of thing she had come to these lands to find. People that reminded her that there was even a future worth fighting for; that the peace was worth it. " Is your father sick or simply too old to work anymore?" she asked politely. " I am also quite skilled at fencing, should you ever wish to learn how to protect yourself." she offered as an unrelated after thought. MADE BY MINNIE OF FTS & GS

Olwyn again stopped in her tracks when Luiniel's words hit her. Her green eyes quickly flicking to her and her brow wrinkling with concern. She truly was a queen? And Olwyn had her carrying a dirty garment and traipsing through the marketplace as if she were nothing more than another peasant. She didn't know how to react. What to say. She had never been in the presence of royalty. Even the functions where human royals paraded about she hadn't really attended. So having someone who was a Queen standing beside her, conversing with her, left her lost. "I-" She began but her voice broke away and Olwyn gripped the basket tighter. "I'm sorry I'm just...I've never-" Her voice failed her again but the human forced an apologetic smile. "Please forgive me I'm just a little surprised." And given what had already happened to her on this morning she was worried. A queen would be quite the target indeed. Olwyn couldn't protect her, she couldn't even protect herself.
She was pulled from her revelry by Luiniel's voice. Her green eyes darting down to the ground before back up to the beautiful woman's face. A queen was going on about her positive outlook when Olwyn couldn't even imagine the pressure she must be under daily. The scrutiny. "You flatter me." Olwyn said softly. "Having all that weight on your shoulders...I can't imagine carrying that." And yet she still seemed so light and free. Maybe it was because she was elven, or maybe she just carried her burden regally.
Olwyn slowly began to walk again. A thousand questions rolling through her head but she wasn't certain what she might be permitted to ask. "My father is blind, my mother passed years ago, and my siblings have all moved on with their own lives. Their own families. I'm lucky that I get to spend these last years with Da. My sisters act as if I am doing them some favor by putting my life on hold to care for him but I think its they that are missing out." She sheepishly looked over at Luiniel. "That sounded harsher than I intended. I love my family."
Several steps later Olwyn's curiosity finally crested and she had to ask something or burst as one after another bubbled up in her mind. "The queen, are you married then? Do you have children?" She was aware that elves aged much slower than humans so despite her young appearance this woman could be much much older than herself. "And...is it really safe for you to be alone? I'm not questioning your decision...I'm obviously just not a capable guard." Soft laughter followed her words.
Fencing? Olwyn's eyebrows rose and confusion colored her face. "I...I'm guessing you don't mean putting up a fence?"

In the end we all fall down ❝ It was clear that she was wrestling with the idea of speaking so casually to a queen. She could not say that she blamed the girl for it either as she would have felt the same way. If she had been more forth coming about it though she would have never managed to have any of this conversation with her. Sometimes a bit of harmless deception was alright in her book. Lu gave Olwyn a moment to let all of the thoughts in her head click into place before she said anything. " There is zero difference between you and I. I came into this world the same way as you. The difference between a commoner and royalty is luck." she said with a smile. She did not believe herself above anyone even if she was born into a noble house. " I state the truth, nothing more and certainly nothing less. The world could be better if more people who thought like you made the decisions." she said softly. Even the people she loved back home could be harsh in their policies which she wanted no part of. Despite being the queen her voice counted for less than that of the kings. Sometimes the ruling body enacted laws she could not stop, taxes she could not alleviated. It was simply how the world worked and it took more than one person to change all of that. Truthfully the weight of a decision you did not make was indeed a hard one to carry. " As queen you often bare the weight of a choice that was not yours. It can be.. like being held prisoner by your own people." she explained. She listened carefully as it sounded like Olwyn never found someone to simply talk to as often as she should. There was a thoughtful look on her face as she considered all that was said. Humans lead such animated lives for a race so short lived. " That would make you the heart. Every family has that someone. One person who without them the entire family would drift apart." she said. Never for a second would she have thought that Olwyn did not love her family. The fact that she was out here being pushed around was evidence. Her actions said more than her words ever could. When the questions turned back on her she paused for a moment. She was not offended, she was simply used to who she was being common knowledge. Everyone knew every little detail of her life and all the gossip which was stifling. " I am married, thought you would not think so. The King has little time these days, even for me." she said with a tone that could not hide sorrow. Sure, she had children, yet she did not see them very often either. " I do, have children that is. They would probably be about your fathers age." she said. It was often odd to short lived races to hear such a thing. It was the final question that brought her out of the downer that was her current life. Was she safe? A wicked smile spread across her lips, one not fitting of a queen. " I could have taken that man apart myself. I am smaller than him but I have the training our soldiers go through." she said and sounded proud of this. " I do not mean putting up a fence. I mean using a sword dear girl." she replied. Words | Olwyn had quickly found that she enjoyed Luiniel's companionship, her kind words and nature were comforting even with the title of queen looming overhead. At Luiniel's words the human felt compassion for her. How painful it must be to be forced to enact and support something you didn't believe in. Olwyn's work was tiring, tedious. But at the end of the day she didn't have to wonder if they had hurt someone else. It was women such as Luiniel that carried such a heavy burden. "I believe I have it easier, between the two of us. I don't know if that is a burden I could carry."
She listened to the details of the queen's life with a smile that faded in response to the Queen's obvious sadness over the king. Such busy lives they must live. And her children were likely Olwyn's father's age. It was hard to believe....she looked so young. Olwyn caught herself staring and quickly tore her gaze away from the elven woman with a slight blush to her cheeks. She shouldn't stare at a queen in such a way. "You look so young it is hard to picture you being older than my father." She tried to explain. Her cheeks still carrying a distinct blush that she hoped would quickly fade. Had she truly let her eyes wander? No...even if Luiniel had not been a queen Olwyn had never eyed another woman in such a manner. Or at least never admitted it to herself.
Thankfully the queen's words pulled Olwyn from her train of thought, her eyes widening and her grip on the basket tightening. Taken him apart? That sounded horrible. It was hard to see the elven woman before her as a soldier but she was accustomed to the site of large hulking men. "I...I don't think I could use a sword. On someone." She didn't know how else to say it. There was no use in her learning a skill that would have no usage.
