[attr="class","biggieno"] [attr="class","textieno"]Pink tongue slipped over drooly fangs as ears laid flat against his giant skull. A mix of blue-yellow eyes stared out from his hiding spot, crouched, poised absolutely ready to strike. He for the time being felt in tune, the wolf cooperating and not fighting for control but actually co-existing. Claws bedded themselves into the earth getting ready to jolt himself forward and land on the unsuspecting prey. 3[break]
Ducking a bit, keeping himself balanced, and silent. 2[break]
In an instant large body was propelled into the air from locked and loaded haunches. Jaws spread wide apart and in the instant, his front paws touched earth they slammed shut. Snapping together sending drool flying in the air. Everything moved in slow motion, the hare jumping for its life and his jaws clamping down and around the back of its hips. Sliding to a stop from the momentum of his force, his head shook violently back and forth flinging the poor creature around like a rag doll. It squealed and fought up until the end of its little body could no longer take anymore. Once it fell silent he stopped and glanced around him seeing if perhaps their small ruckus may have attracted attention before moving on to head back towards his camp.[break]
Large paws ended up carrying him to a clearing with brush swept out of the way, a small burning campfire, some clothes, and a seating area. It was all he had for the time being. Constantly on the move, he had no real place to call home and the home he did have he couldn’t spend much time there. The boss had him constantly moving. It was okay though at least he didn’t have to deal with the girls bitching. Moving closer to the fire he laid the hare on the ground and began to shift back into his human form. Grabbing his clothes he pulled them on, pants up to his hips and buttoning them, shirt over his head, and boots pulled onto his feet. Reaching over once more he pulled out a small blade and started to work on skinning the rabbit. It was a lonely life but it was one he had grown accustomed to besides what had happened in the cave with Lucia was enough to send him retreating from her company. He had to relive his nightmare that had slowly been killing him for years. Maybe that was what had put his wolf on his best behavior? He wasn’t entirely sure. He was just glad he didn’t have to fight him… at least not for now.[break]
After finishing taking care of the rabbit, he shoved a stick through it and hung it above the flames to start cooking. He knew the smell would probably draw something or someone in but he wasn’t worried about it. If this life had taught him anything it was to choose his battles. Leaning back a bit on his hands, blue eyes stared into the flames quietly. His solitude, however, hadn’t lasted long. Sensitive ears picked up a noise that was close by and by the smell of it… it was a someone. Shifting a bit his eyes darted to the exact place the smell came from. ”Hiding is not in your forte it seems.” he said voice absolutely monotone. ”Show yourself and save us both the pathetic attempt.”

Hunt
The scarred silver wolf moved slowly, carefully through the underbrush. She had followed the rabbit's spoor for a ways and she thought she was getting close. Very close. The sudden, pungent musk of another wolf suddenly choked her nose and she froze, a growl clamped down in her throat to maintain absolute silence. The sharp squeal and the smell of blood made her empty stomach lurch and her eyes narrow. That should have been hers. She waited, ears and eyes straining, for what felt like an eternity. Then she heard him move off, cat-quiet across the forest floor. She waited until she couldn't hear him anymore, then she moved slowly, stealthily forward and tracked the scent of blood.
She didn't follow it far before it joined the smell of campfire and the scent changed. She hung back, out of sight, circling the camp at a good distance. She lifted leg on a nearby tree out of a sense of sheer pique, hoping he'd smell it the next morning when he left. Or maybe she'd sneak in and mark his tent (if she had one) just to make a point.
Or perhaps hunger was simply making her more irritable than normal.
She crept closer as the smell of the meat roasting began to reach her nostrils. She wormed her way under a bit of underbrush, ignoring the scraping of the sticks against the scar tissue on her back where the fur had never regrown. Then he looked at her. She froze, dark eyes on his, lips peeling back in a silent snarl. Pathetic attempt, hah! Still, she had to admit that if she had been thinking more clearly she'd never have gotten so close.
That was supposed to be mine.[/b] Much like her real voice, her mental voice was low and androgynous, colored by irritation. She slunk out of the brush and shook dead leaves from her grey coat, surveying the man more clearly now in the firelight. Her head tilted a little to one side, a very dog-like look of consideration. There was something familiar about his features that she couldn't quite put a finger on, too annoyed and hungry to think really clearly.

[attr="class","biggieno"] [attr="class","textieno"]He wasn’t too concerned with the beast that was stalking him. If anything if they were there for his death, cool. He would probably gladly welcome the challenge. His wolf was always up for a bit of a scuffle with an animal who thought they better than he. He lived on destruction and chaos. His eyes were pointed in the direction the smell was coming from. Despite how quiet she may have been if her body was upwind he would have smelt her and it was what quickly gave her away. He’d been in the game of stalking for far too long to not know someone was on his tail. The voice that came through was highly irritated obviously speaking he had taken a meal. Eyes stayed on the wolf that approached, blue eyes narrowing only slightly but not in a menacing manner just complete observation.[break] On the voice alone he probably wouldn’t have been able to tell the sex but luckily smell was his stronger sense. Smell could tell you amazing things about the person you were interacting with. The only problem was the feeling his wolf was pushing was different and not the usual territorial brute. Instead it was familiarization. Calm, cool, accepting, and yet weary. The feeling was confusing at how accepting he was of this she-wolfs presence. ”Be quicker next time.” He commented, his tone holding a little bit of a chide. He leaned on his knees a little watching her. He could always extend the olive branch and say she was more than welcome to the meal but that was when pride stepped in. His inner ego said no that she just wasted time stalking him out attempting to make him feel bad about taking what she was hunting out. It was how it was in the real world. You strike first or lose out.[break] It was likely a dick move not being so accommodating but she imposed on him first. ”Well?... You going to stand there and look pretty or you going to leave?” He went back to looking at the meat of the rabbit checking to be sure it was cooking evenly. Blue eyes moved towards her calculatedly watching muscles, posture, any move she made he was well aware of it. He didn’t survive this long in the game to make foolhardy mistakes. ”Unless you have something clever to say then I might be incline to listen.” His tone yet again settled in on a monotone sound. cold and hardly warm even though his wolf was pushing him too.

Perhaps it would have made more sense to let it go. To go back to hunting her own dinner. But hunting had been oddly scarce in the area lately and she didn't feel like she could linger in any one place too long. She was still looking though she was no closer than she was before. Not even tracking down one family member made her feel like she had come closer to pinning down her transient father. She had been so young when he left she really didn't recall him at all. She huffed a little at his comment, lips pulling back from her teeth at the chiding tone.
When he asked if she was going to leave, she pointedly sat, her tail tucking close around her haunches. It was quite a prim pose, her head upright and alert. Despite the appearance of rigidity, she held herself in a similar wary readiness that he did- if he came for her, she was fairly confident she was faster. She had generally found herself to be faster than most other werebeasts and she relied on that when she came up against them.
Actually, I would like to ask you a question. Though the irritation wasn't gone, she had schooled her tone to something somewhat less agressive. I'm looking for a man named Felix. I believe he is going by Felix Cairo at the moment.
Never one to beat around the bush, she laid out her question and watched him. The dark eyes never left him, tracking his movements and meeting his eyes when they turned to her.

[attr="class","biggieno"] [attr="class","textieno"]A grin though barely existent made its way to his lips as he watched the young she-wolf promptly sit down in defiance. ”ooooh.” he said as he tipped his head, brows raising a bit. He liked it. Something about that simple move just made him give her a little respect. ”Alright then. I’ll give you that.” He said. It wasn’t an act of giving up but it was more of a sign of simple respect and understanding. If she thought her point was going to be gotten across than fine but he still wasn’t giving her a bite of his rabbit that he caught and killed on his own. He didn’t pity nor feed the needy.[break] Her silence was enough though to start making him feel a tad bit bored of this meeting at least that was until she finally spoke up.[break] ”I’m looking for Felix. I believe he is going by Felix Cairo…”[break] Had he been any other person the blood probably would have drained from his face but luckily with lets of practice this wasn’t the case. There was absolutely no reaction to the name. Now had she used his real last name it probably would have been harder to hide but this, this was cake. Never allow the other party to know what you were thinking and since he was a wanted man by many, it was something that was a necessity to learn. A curious expression soon played on his face much like a mask an actor would wear. ”Little young to be hunting down someone that dangerous on your own.” he mildly said with interest. ” what’s in it for me if I tell you what I know?” He was curious. ”Cause right now, I’m not really in the sharing mood.” His eyes glimmered a little devilish a hint of gold sneaking into the blue. Still, the wolf wasn’t feeling as wrathful as he usually did with this youngster and it was beginning to irritate him. Why was it when he needed him to do something he decided to behave? ”If you really want to know at least make it worth my while.” Or really honestly tell him what she wanted with him. He figured she was probably one of the latest victim’s family member looking to deal out ‘justice’. That also meant he wasn’t sure he was going to end up letting her go if that were the case. Someone too hot on his trail was a close enough call to him that he had to delete whatever evidence she dug up and what better way to do it than in a forest…. Right in the middle of nowhere.

It didn't occur to Wren really that stating her purpose bluntly might be counter to finding what she wanted. After all, if she was hunting a bounty she wasn't going to out and out say who she was looking for. Generally subtler means were better, and bounties frequently had decent information on where the query could be found. At least, the ones her contacts typically dug up. When he spoke of hunting, she snorted- at least as well as wolf can snort- and turned her head a little away from him.
Age is a poor indication of experience. Her voice remained cool, edged with irritation but she didn't rise to it. Underestimating her based on an assumption about her age didn't necessarily work against her. It could even play into her favor. Besides, one missed rabbit didn't make her a bad hunter. Alright, so maybe that had stung a bit, but the opinions of strangers didn't generally mean much to her. The smell of him, under the rabbit though, the musk of wolf- there was something chasingly familiar about it. Nothing she could quite put her finger on.
I'm not paying for information you may not have. she scoffed a little, hackles briefly bristling, then laying flat. I'm in no rush. I haven't seen him in over a century and a half. What's a few more years? There was, perhaps, a trace of bitterness lacing the last bit of that but she clamped down on it swiftly and rose, stretching languidly. Enjoy your rabbit.

[attr="class","biggieno"] [attr="class","textieno"]Eyes narrowed a little as she spoke the last bit about not seeing him in over a century and then continued to say she could wait a little longer. This… puzzled him. ”Half a century.” he parroted. His wolf shifted again this time the urge being that he should open his mouth and find out who she really was. It wasn’t a friendly nudge however it was one that was calm and assertive. One that said this young she-wolf was more than what she was letting him know. Blue eyes watched as she lowered and stretched before lifting up. Was she going to leave?[break] Another harsh nudge was giving to him to speak quickly. The demand rising in his chest as the words nearly rushed out of his mouth. ”You are looking at him.” He was a little concerned at how easy that was to come out. Never in his life had he been so willing to give up his identity to someone looking for him but it was almost as if his wolf knew something he didn’t. ”So what the hell do you want that you think you have to track me for so long.” He was bristling now, his gaze harsh and daunting. A defensive barrier was starting to put up and though the human felt threatened the wolf was in quiet observation. What was going on. [break] Almost in the same breath that he held it came to him all in a rush. ”Wait --….” He had run into Eriu only a short time before and she had said Wren had run off in her teen years. Was this the feeling he was getting? Was she familiar because she was Wren? It was a little hard to process his feelings and thoughts as they mushed together. He licked his lips almost in a nervous canine fashion as he stiffened. Brows furrowed trying to find the words to say and so he went the simple route. ”Renata?” He spoke the name with an unease tone almost as if it were foreign coming off the tip of his tongue. His gaze remained unaltered with no warmth towards her. He wasn’t a father excited to see his offspring for the first time. To be honest he didn’t know how to act towards another family member…. How do you act like a father when you didn’t have much of one to learn off of?

Her ears swiveled when he spoke, suspicion and eagerness rising in equal parts. Dark wolfish eyes turned to him as she paused, waiting. Listening. She didn't reply immediately, somehow seeing the wheels turning in his head. Maybe it was the musky scent of wolf that seemed to have somehow grown stronger around him. The sound of her own name laid back her ears, a wave of irrational irritation coming over her. She tamped it down with an effort of will, head low and eyes wary. To be honest, she wasn't sure of her reception here. She had about as little basis for interacting with a father figure as he had interacting with a daughter. She shifted a little to face him fully.
I go by Wren now, mostly. She finally ventured after a silence that stretched long and awkward between them. She had been looking for him for so long, now that she found him... she wasn't sure what to do with him. Though she didn't intend it to, her uncertainty showed clearly in her body. She never told me why she left you. Why you never came around. The words were picked carefully, not exactly questions but rather dancing around them, as though she weren't quite sure how to ask him anything. What would she ask? Why did her mother leave? He might not even know. She had no desire to whine to him about the hardships of her childhood- those paled to the real world she'd plunged herself into when she ran away.
Still, did he know how hard it was to grow up without another werebeast around to teach her? She and her beast skin didn't really quarrel, but then they had been forged together early on in the crucible of adulthood. She wanted to change, to talk to him aloud. She couldn't do that here though, where she would have nothing. Father or not, he was still practically a stranger and she hardly trusted him.

[attr="class","biggieno"] [attr="class","textieno"]Her uneasiness was mirroring his. What was the next move in this sort of situation? Honestly he had always imagined running back into her. Always imagined what it would be like and how nice it would be to reunite with his ‘once upon a time’ family. But the warmth wasn’t there and it was by no means growing. Cold blue eyes stayed on the dark wolf afore him as she seemed to switch between a constant set of emotions. Curious but wary. She had every right to be because he didn’t fully trust himself either. All those years ago he had nearly ended hers and her mother’s life and now here she stood before him. Would his wolf quit the quiet observation and strike as quick and unpredictable like a rattler?[break] She finally broke the silence as he was transfixed on his own thoughts. He nodded his head finally gaining to fluid momentum. ”Wren.. Right… I remember.” or at least that had been what Eriu had called her. He figured it was a name that she stuck with or—something of that nature. As he parted his lips to speak again she soon beat him to it. Her words slightly struck him in a more painful manner than he anticipated. He wasn’t entirely sure he was ready for this conversation. ”I didn’t really think she would.” he said truthfully. The way he had always known Eriu she didn’t want to paint him as the monster that he really was, she would have wanted Wren to see him differently. What had happened then surely couldn’t be the same as it was now, right?[break] ”That’s a long story.” He breathed giving her a small but very weak and humorless smile. Eyes finally dropped from looking at her and down to his hands. The smell of the rabbit stated it was done but he had suddenly lost his appetite. ”Things got messy and complicated is all.” Yeah like Wren nearly being murdered in her crib. ”Being a hybrid isn’t easy as I am sure you have come to figure out…. And sometimes it leaves us with an instability that at a young age you don’t know how to handle.” or really any age but worse younger he supposed since he was still dealing with the issues. ”My wolf got out of hand and Eri---…. Your mom was just protecting you.” he shifted uneasily.

She was silent for a long few moments, marshaling her thoughts. While Wren did not always think so carefully before she spoke, this situation was special. It had taken so many shapes in her head. This meeting had played out on the streets of cities, in prisons, on the deck of a ship- and yes, even in a forest like this one. And always it was hard to find what to say. As if she wasn't even sure why she had been so driven to find him, only knew that she- and her wolf- needed to.
Do you think my mother knew what to do with a young hybrid wolf child? There was surprisingly little judgement in the tone. Perhaps a trace of bitterness, but it was not really directed at him. Abuptly she shook her wolfish head and lifted a hind paw up to thoughtfully scratch an ear. It does not matter. I figured it out. She always tried to protect me. She did not know when to stop.
She paced in a slow, slinking gait. The firelight played over her grey fur and the bare patches of gristly scar tissue on her back where no fur grew. She was restless, wired full of energy that she didn't know what to do with. It wasn't like her to be nervous or anxious. She wasn't entirely sure how to handle it. There is time for long stories, if you would share. She ventured the offer cautiously, not sure of the boundaries her. Could she even push for more? She knew she wanted to know more.

[attr="class","biggieno"] [attr="class","textieno"]He didn’t think Eriu knew how to handle a child at all considering she acted like one much herself. However it seemed the fairy was competent enough to at least get her passed three main staged of her life before Wren took it upon herself to take off. ”I’m in no way shape or form to tell you what you should have done… but as that may be she had little to no knowledge leaving your mother wasn’t necessarily a wise choice neither.” He sounded like a father and it felt weird on his tongue. He was in no place to state what she should or shouldn’t have done but he knew one thing for sure being a teenager and having been running the world like you knew it all was unwise. Especially when he was out there lurking. He could have hunted them down. His wolf could have not given up and Wren would have been a great target. Fortunately for her Felix at the time refused to let the wolf escape again and damned him to the back of who he was. It wasn’t until recently had the wolf become stronger than the human. ”Glad to see you are still in one piece anyways.” he shrugged and glanced at the rabbit. He didn’t want it now. It was different when he thought it was someone he didn’t know but this was his daughter. This was the little girl his wolf had tried to murder. How could he tell her something like that? How could he even admit to it to her face? At her next set of words he nodded. It was true. Eriu had that aspect about her that he both defied and admired. It was only admirable because when he truthfully and honestly needed her… she was there.[break]
His eyes were now following the pacing she wolf. Looking upon her back seeing the gnarly scars that laid there. ”You say you have time but you look as though you are a bouncy ball.” he commented on her restless energy. ”I just wasn’t fit to be a father. My wolf ---…. Wanted to consume you both.” Consume sounded better than the word murder. At least in his mind anyways. ”She stole you away because he broke loose and attacked…. And ya’ll nearly didn’t make it out.” His brows furrowed. ”It was my fault entirely but he hunted and he preyed upon you two. She did the right thing.” even if she left him with no support for his failing sanity. That he blamed her for. No less the more reasonable side knew it wasn’t just them anymore. They had a child to look after and despite it being hard…. He had to let them go.

Her lips writhed in a silent snarl at his tone, hackles rising on her back as she stopped pacing to stare at him, glowering. He had no right to father her- she wasn't asking anything of him except answers and that much she felt she had earned. He had earned no right to tell her if the choice she had made was wise. Of course it hadn't been, but then she had been young. The young were often foolish. Had he not been young once too? Had a child with a woman when neither of them were prepared for such a thing? His follow up did little to soothe her irritation but none the less she covered her fangs and made some effort to look less angry. She settled for looking surly, which was a pretty comfortable look on her. The rangy silver wolf resumed her pacing. Nor did she respond to his jibe about her restlessness except with a slight pinning back of the ears. She wanted to hear the story, from his lips. When it finally came she slowed and eventually stopped. She did not face him full, body still turned profile to him though her head turned towards him, eyes glittering in the firelight.
Thank you. Surprisingly, the words were not ungrateful. For all that the story was shorter than he'd promised and perhaps less satisfying to some for it's lack of flourish, for her it was enough. She looked him over more carefully now, judging, weighing him against her, considering her own experience and the unknown that was his. Their pasts varied by twenty-odd years but did that really make a difference when their lives held more than a century?
She might have been right to fear you, but I do not. Brazen, perhaps, but it was spoken as simple truth. She would have absolutely bet her chances if they fought in human form, with her armor and her weapons at hand. In a battle of wolves- well, she doubted either of them would walk away. She was confident in her ability to take him though the glimpse she had seen of the black wolf told her it was larger and bulkier than she. She would likely not live through it, but she would make sure he didn't either.

His words weren't quite comforting and he probably knew why, he also gave her a very short description of quite a long story but he wasn't in the mood to be spilling out details to her. She didn't need to know about all of it in such a short span of time even if it was technically her history. She thanked him and his brow quirked at her. Why was she being so thankful to him? He wasn't quite sure what she meant on whether she was thanking him for actually telling her or thanking him for not succeeding in killing her. His wolf snorted at that. He knew well the beast would some how to find a way of sinking his fangs into that fleshy hide of hers. He always did. With anyone, he met the wolf somehow managed to sneak out. But for now the wolf was behaving and he was taking this opportunity to take Wren in for what she was. This was his kid. This was someone he had helped create and though he hadn't seen her since she was a mere infant crying in a cradle, he felt a small tiny sense of pride. He didn't have a hand in raising her but he couldn't say Eriu did that much of a terrible job either. The only true thing he was a little saddened to see was how much like him she was. She held a very aggressive exterior which to him could only be a thanks to a very unstable father. "Don't thank me just yet." he said. "There's still quite a bit of life ahead of you." and she had only begun it. Would she start hating him much like he did his own father? With this information though he wondered what she would do with it... if anything. Her posture seemed to change a bit more of a cocky but proud stance coming which only caused him to form a knowing smile. It was weak but there all the same. "I wouldn't expect any less." he said. He didn't aim to scare people and whether they were or weren't was their business. He didn't control what he did half the time. "But I don't think he cares." You don't have to have fear from a victim in order to kill them. @tag - words - notes - muse WHEN I FALL IN LOVE I FALL DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOX 2.0

It was hard to tell how to feel. Wren was not one for dealing with emotions so readily and now that she hed met him, had heard from him what had happened (at least in it's simplest form) what did she do? She was.... unsatisfied and yet her quest was fulfilled. Years of work swept away by a chance encounter, being in the right place at the right time. Though her attention was on him, her thoughts were moving on to other things. To work, mostly. She needed it. So she didn't have to keep skulking around the woods practicing her hunting techniques. She was much better at hunting people than food, though she was normally a fair enough hunter. She had plenty of experience.
The feeling is mutual. She responded almost dismissively, and she glanced past him to the forest beyond, ears alert for the sounds of the night. Then she backed a few paces away to the edge of the clearing, not quite willing to turn her back on him. No show of bravado was worth that with a relatively unknown quantity and he was still a stranger. Father or no.
I don't really think the life in front of me is your concern. You told me something of my past, which was all I have a right to ask of you. I am going now. She hesitated a long moment, then turned and disappeared into the brush with a whisk of silver tail.
