It was another day completed. Carlisle sighed and unbuttoned the cuffs of his shirt so that he could change his clothing before he went to retrieve Erin. Once he no longer looked like a murder victim, or a murderer himself. It was late evening and he was surprised that he hadn’t heard a soft knock on his door from the woman who watched her. She had a family of her own to care for which was of course harder with the infant on her hip.
When he reached her door and knocked it was her frantic husband that answered. Immediately peppering the tired physician with questions. Carlisle held up his hands and rose his voice to speak over him. ”You mean she’s not here?” It was then that the first tendril of fear curled around his heart. The husband, overwhelmed as he was struck out. Shoving Carlisle roughly back out of his doorway. He stumbled but didn’t lose his footing. Questions of his own rising. It was then that the guards arrived, the guards that the husband had ask for hours ago.
The next few hours were a nervous torture as he was questioned but given no answers about the whereabouts of his daughter. Words were thrown about like stones. Kidnapping. Blackmail. Return home they said and wait to be contacted. Hopefully whoever took them wanted something. And so he had. He house barren and empty without the cheerful chatter of the tiny girl. He sat down at his table. Trying to remain calm, his shaking hands barely holding the cup of tea that he brought to his dry lips. But eventually it slipped and smashed on the wooden floor in a rain of porcelain.
It was like something flipped in his mind. And the normally very calm and gentle dr lost his grip. He was on his feet and tearing apart the tiny kitchen. Slinging dishes, flipping the table, kicking at the dying embers of the fire. Eventually exhaustion took him while he slept amidst the mess he had made. A loud thump against the down stairs door was what woke him. At first he thought someone had broken in, an earthquake, something. But after a frantic stumble to Erin’s empty bed the memories from the night before came back to slam into his gut with enough force to make him sick.
The thump on his door was to notify him of a letter that had been pushed beneath it. Ransom. He notified the guards and left the money where asked. Pensive but hopeful this was it. But no one took the coin. And the next two days more letters came. Demanding more and more. It made no sense and Carlisle was quickly running low on coin. He wasn’t a rich man by any means and the demands of whoever had taken her were high. The guards did little more than say they would keep an eye out for the girl. Growing annoyed with the dr who pestered them day in an out to find her.
He came to see that if he were to get Erin back then he would need to take matters into his own hands. He made fliers. He spread the word among those he knew. He made his way through the streets calling for anyone good with a sword. It was the fourth morning without Erin that Carlisle had ask anyone and everyone who cared to earn what little coin he had remaining to meet up. From here they would strike out toward the only lead he had been given. Dryhtwood Forest.
He looked little like the man he normally was. The bags beneath his eyes had deepened and were nearly black. His tanned skin was pale and ghostly. The stubble that often graced his face was now four days of growth and there was a perpetual shake to his long fingers whose movements were normally so measured. So precise. They had to find her…they just had to. At the chime of the bell above his door he turned to see who was going to be coming along because with or without help he wasn’t waiting any longer.

"Good day!" the cheery fairy called, taking a long step into the house as the door then closed behind her. Ah, this was the right place right? The confused fae scratched her head for a moment, looking again at the flyer that sat in her hand. This seemed to be the place described, but she didn't want to barge into the place if this was indeed someone else's home. But the flyer stated that this was a clinic. She peered around, this didn't look much like a clinic, more like an ordinary house. Her eyesight eventually brought to the man, and immediately she saluted.
"Good day, sir!" she repeated, although this time with a little more seriousness however that hardly seemed to be the case as it piped from the girl. "I am Eriu Bloodworth, Swordsman of the Fairies. It is my duty to assist in your search for your missing child." Her posture then was slightly less stiff, and her hand lowered from her head as she looked at him confusedly. "You are him... right?" she asked just to make sure. She looked again at the flyer. "Carl... isle... Hilthrom?" she asked, looking back up at him. She flew a bit closer, inspecting his face. Those were bags under his eyes. "You don't look so good," she said, hovering in the air as her pale pink wings fluttered. She eventually landed on her feet again, this time looking up at him from where she stood. "Don't worry," she smiled reassuringly, sticking a thumb into her armored chest. "You have a swordsman on your side. We will find your child, I swear upon my honor," she said quite in an upbeat tone, despite the serious promise made. Although, she was one that stood by her oath. She had joined the swordsmen for a reason, to protect the Kingdom and the Church, although now it extended to the rest of the other races as well under the treaty, but one that she proudly served. To serve such a noble cause as world peace, was something she deemed was worth fighting for.
"So, is there anyone else coming along?" she asked, briefly turning her head back toward the door. So far it seemed to be only them two. How could no one care about this man who had lost his child to a kidnapping? Where were the guards in this? Wasn't Cendra City supposed to protect everyone within its walls? She couldn't see the justice in this man seeking for help through flyers. It was something that should call their attention. Fortunately some authority was able to assist him. Well, her that was. She was dressed in her full armor of the fae swordsman, and two serrated swords in their sheaths at her sides. She also wore a few pouches upon her belt, just in case they needed to stay within the Dryhtwood Forest longer than necessary. Luckily for her she knew her way around the forest pretty well, or so she thought. After exploring and even serving apart of the war within the very forest, one would learn their way around it. Although, she had not explored every part of it, and if his infant was kidnapped then she wouldn't know where they would hide. But they can discover where their evil hideout lay, she just knew it.

Aislyn had not been in the city long before she knew of Carlisle. She had heard of him through her various contacts and had looked forward to meeting him- after all, surgery was a rare skill and she hadn't met may since the war who practiced it. She had hoped to meet under better circumstanced. Word had come to the apothecary shop that his daughter and her caretaker were missing, kidnapped. She had almost mismeasured what she was weighing when she had heard, listening for details. It was an atrocious thing, to target a child. Of all creatures, the young and the weak required the most protection and in her eyes it was only responsible to offer aid. What kind of monster would she be if she didn't?
She was rather shocked when she approached the small doctor's home. The bell jingled over her head as she entered and she found only him and a faerie inside. She eyed the fairy with some reservation- though she didn't blame them for staying out of the war, their steadfast refusal to render aid or accept refugees made her a little distrustful. It wasn't a grudge really, but she wondered how much help they would really get.
"Is this all?" She asked quietly, running a hand over her hair. It was bound back- unusual for the elk. She carried no obvious weapon besides the large knife on her hip, as useful for gathering as it was for defense. She also carried a satchel though, full of small pouches of carefully mixed material that were loosely held together by string. Pull the string and throw the ball and the powder would fling out. Some had different effects, and she could tell them apart by the feel of the fabric and the type of cord they were made of. She didn't want to have to look to see what they were. In the bottom of the satchel was also a minimal first aid kit which she rarely traveled without.
"I am Aislyn. I... came to help." She couldn't think of what else to say. There were no words, she thought, that could balm this hurt.

He had packed some supplies including things for Erin if-no when they found her. He looked up when the fae entered his shop and tried to smile to welcome her. He really did. But he just couldn't manage it. "I am him, thank you so much for coming. Sadly yes...no one else has arrived." Had the situation been different he would have been intrigued by the fae who fluttered around and peered at his face curiously. He didn't reply to her comments about his appearance. Of course he looked like hell his child was missing. How was he supposed to look? Unaffected? He picked up his pack and slid it onto his shoulder. Dark eyes moving to the fae and lips parting to speak but just then someone else entered. A second woman although this one obviously not fae. He dipped his head in greeting to her.
"Erius, Aislyn, I thank both of you for coming. It appears that this will be the extent of our party as I cannot wait any longer. I have waisted too much time already." His mind appeared to wander before he pulled himself back. Swallowing hard the lump in his throat bounced. "I do not have much coin remaining after paying the ransom that was demanded time and time again. However what I do have I will gladly split between the two of you as soon as we return with my daughter. You have my word."
Perhaps that didn't mean much to some. But Carlisle was a man of his word. He gripped the strap that hooked over his shoulder with trembling fingers. "I know nothing about weapons and I am but a simple man but I will do everything I can to help the both of you." He took a step forward and closer to both women. The lids over his eyes lowering slightly when he spoke. "It means much to me that you both came. My daughter, Erin. She means the world to me. I don't understand why I was targeted this way but all I can hope for is that she is unharmed." He suddenly reached forward to lay a hand on each of them. Their hand or arm if they didn't move away. "Thank you."
His eyes appeared to shine after that and he quickly blinked and cleared his throat. Taking several steps until he waited for both of them while holding the door open. He was done waiting. It was time to act.

To give up who you are, I'll live without your face, your smile, regret it more than dying, and dying so young After his hand left her shoulder, she stood up more straightly than before, giving him a reassuring smile before heading toward the door. "I'm just doing my duty, sir," she said, referring to the coin. "I do not have need for coin, I imply for you to keep it for yourself and your daughter," she said, looking over toward the other girl that was white almost like snow, hoping that she would agree. Wow, she was sure stunning. Eriu hadn't seen anything like her before. The fae immediately turned to the woman. "Hello! I am Eriu!" she greeted cheerfully, reaching out to shake the other woman's hand. If she didn't take it she would be disappointed, but otherwise she would then walk toward the doorway all the same. She looked up at the man that held it.
"No need for help," she said quite confidently. "We are here to help you!" she said, dancing outside still facing him, eventually stopping to roll on her heels. "We can protect you while we help you search for her, right?" her eyes popped toward the direction of the other lady, wherever she was. She had trust in her already, perhaps it was a swordsman's intuition, to trust the others in the party. After all, she agreed to help Carlisle, so she thought that she must have the same prowess or just enough will to help in this case. But she did not doubt in her ability though, judging from the large knife at her side it seemed that she must be efficient with it.
The fae stopped a little in front of the others, watching the busy streets ahead. It would be a while before they would make it to their destination. But the fun about it was the journey right? No, they had to focus! His baby was in danger, they had to find her before the bad men did... bad things? What in the world did they want with a baby anyway? To raise it and teach it about the evil ways of the world? Eriu wondered.
"To the Dryhtwood Forest?" she asked, looking behind to see them if they caught up with her walking pace. She nearly bumped into the people behind her if they didn't move out of the way first. Wait a minute, that means they would have to stay at an inn right? What about after this venture? Eriu might as well gone broke. Maybe she needed more coin after all. |

Aislyn covered Carlisle's hand with her own, her heart aching in response to the emotion raw in his voice and body language. "I don't need any coin- no person should be denied aid in a time of need." She paused, then offered him a slight, encouraging smile. "I would be a poor healer if I was not moved by the needy."
When he touched her arm, she placed her hand on his, patting it gently, before she followed them both to the door. She was not worried about his usefulness in their endeavor. He was another pair of eyes to search and he knew the child. When they found her, she would need him. If they found her. Though she hoped they did, Aislyn was realistic. Kidnapping victim rarely survived long. What business would bandits have trying to keep such a young child alive? Either through impatience or even simple negligence, they might hurt or kill her.
Aislyn had brought little money with her. What coins she had were sewn into her belt- she didn't intend to use them when she was perfectly capable of fending in the wild (and preferred it). It didn't even occur to her that they might stop at an inn or some such place. If they did, she would happily make her bed in the wilds outside it. "Indeed." She followed the fae, nearly bumping into her when she stopped to look for them. As the ventured forward, she turned her attention to Carlisle.
"Is there anything more you can tell us besides what was in the flyers? Did the demands for ransom have anything strange about them, a smell or texture or unusual wording?" Perhaps once they got free of the city, if the kidnappers were indeed hiding in the forest, she might be able to scent them out. Her nose was not as good as a wolf's perhaps, but it was still good.

[nospaces] [attr="class","biggieno"] [attr="class","textieno"] Carlisle could scarcely keep up with the hyper fairy. His mind as muddled and grief stricken as it was her words just seemed to meld together in one big ball of happy that he couldn’t decipher. ”I-Yes, that’s where the lead pointed me.” At the second womans question he nodded and pulled one of the notes from a pocket in his pants. The paper was wrinkled and thin. The words having been brushed over so many times that they were barely decipherable any longer. He had read and reread that first note until the ink from it bled onto his fingers. Until he knew the words by heart. But it wasn’t the wording that he was showing the pale woman. Rather it was the streak of red on the back. A smudge of something that had at first stopped his heart when he thought it was blood. [break][break] But it smelled tart and after touching it to his lips he found they tingled. Being a man who made his own medications he knew the type of berry that would have that affect as well as match the hue. However actually being able to forage and gather them himself was out of his scope of ability. It was after questioning the foragers in the marketplace that he had been directed to the forest. But hadn’t told him where. [break][break] He brushed his thumb over the stain and would allow her to take the paper to study the mark if she wished. His eyes flicking between the two of them when he explained. ”I recognize this berry, and the foragers in the marketplace told me it was found exclusively in Dryhtwood Forest. But they couldn’t give me a direction or location. They were very vague about where they had found it for some reason…” He had even been cross with them in his desperation. Something that was very out of character for the gentle doctor. But he had felt like they had answers they just weren’t giving him. [break][break] ”If either of you know where these berries grow in the forest it could give us a direction. But if her captors are trying to live off these berries they might not even be alive when we reach them. They are a paralytic. I’m not sure which possibility is more terrifying.” Finding them dead or alive he meant. Because if they were dead who would be near to care for Erin? By the gods he hoped she was alright. He could never forgive himself if she was harmed or worse. The child had quickly found a place in the human’s heart and he was certain he could love her more even if she were his own blood. [break][break] Carlisles throat tightened and he rubbed the back of his neck with a shaking hand before taking off walking. Expecting that the women would do the same. He had no intention of staying at an inn. Not when his infant child was out there somewhere probably cold and hungry. ”We should hurry.” He said without turning around.

To give up who you are, I'll live without your face, your smile, regret it more than dying, and dying so young She took a look at the sheet, the red berry smeared across it. If she had to guess, she would have said it was blood. But as the man said, apparently he knew that it was a berry, nevertheless a paralytic. "I doubt they would live off such a thing," she said, continuing to walk alongside them. "If I were a kidnapper I wouldn't eat something that would do that to me. If that happened I think you would have been able to find your child by now," she spoke rather thoughtfully. The caretaker of the child that had also been kidnapped would have also made a run for it if they did, however she assumed that maybe they would have used it on them instead, which was a depressing thought.
"It looks like blood to me. Maybe they were trying to scare you," she said. She had seen a few tactics like this before. Scaring the pontiff was no easy task however when you had smart swordsmen. Well, not that she knew it was dyed liquid. Maybe it was the pontiff that knew already... she couldn't remember. But she did not know the different kinds of plants in the forest, nor the berries. If she was lost in the forest she might as well die from the poisonous berries. Do not eat red berries. That was a good mental note.
"If these kidnappers were organized," she said, rubbing her chin as she pondered. "The guards couldn't find them... My guess is that they are southwest of the Aelfmenn Kingdom." That wouldn't be too far from the city, but secluded enough that they could be hidden. But... didn't he say the foragers told him that it was in the Dryhtwood Forest?
"Can't we just ask the foragers again?" she asked, this time tip toeing to get into his face... from where she was standing. |

For a moment after he pulled out the letter, Aislyn thought the worse. But the slightly sweet smell came to her nose just as he was explaining. It was immediately familiar. She carefully took the paper from him as he and Eriu talked, bringing it close to her face and sniffing deeply. The scent of the berry itself was still there, faintly. Most of the other scent spoor was Carlisle. He must have been carrying this with him since he got it. Still if they could get in the area she could probably tell if people had been there recently.
She handed him back the letter. "I know the plant, I use it in a sleeping draught with other plants for certain surgeries." She tried to recall the last time she had collected it. It had been in the Dryhtwood forest and she thought she could get close to the area again if the landmarks hadn't changed much. "It's easy to lose yourself in the woods if you have some sense of woodcraft. If they've been surviving in the woods this long then I would guess they know their way around them. If they have a semi-permanent camp, their scent should be all over the area. I'm not much of a tracker but I've a better nose than either of you."
It wasn't meant to be a brag, only a statement of fact. She thought Eriu was on the right track though. The area of the Dryhtwood forest, if she was remembering correctly, was the right climate for this plant. And the area she remembered was heavy with undergrowth and brambles- that made it hard to move easily through and most people stuck to the paths and game trails. It would have to be far enough from the city and traveled paths that the cries of the baby and woman wouldn't draw attention. Unless they had someone with a bit of herbalist knowledge with them. Some basic herbalism was common among rough living folk, to doctor themselves. It wouldn't be too hard to make some kind of concoction to keep them quiet. Those kinds of things tended to be dangerous if used incorrectly though. She kept her thoughts to herself on that, not wanting to worry Carlisle more.
"Their plan shows some amount of cunning, so I don't think they'd be living in the woods without at least one person with woodsense among them." She fell into step alongside Carlisle, thinking. "I think we should go, and quickly. One of the foragers would make an excellent spy in the city to keep an eye on what's going on, since he would have a ready excuse to go into the forest for extended periods of time."

"A scare tactic? Its..possible." He said slowly in response to Eriu. Trying to get into the mindset of these men was nigh impossible for him. He just wasn't the cold and heartless type. "I don't feel that the foragers will give us any more information." He said slowly. A soft not was given in response to Aislyn's words and he headed off in the direction of the forest.
A day of walking had led to night. And then another. Not wanting a fire to give away their location Carlisle was lying on his back and staring up at the stars. Thoughts of his daughters well being were constant in his mind as well as the notion that he had failed her. But he kept a calm look on his face although his lips were pulled thin with worry. He rolled his head to the side atop the dry leaves that served as a bed. He felt alone, more alone than he had felt in years. Even before Erin's arrival. He had his parents of course, and was lucky for it given their advanced age. But he was dealing with Erin's absence alone and part of him envied those that had a spouse to help carry the burden. Someone to worry with him. But as it was that was a silly thing to think about and he forced the thoughts from his mind.
He would find Erin and he would never let anyone take her from him again.
Unbeknownst to the human they were actually very close to the came that Erin was being held at. Twelve men made up the small group who lived on ransom and thievery. The woman they had abducted with Erin had still been caring for her as best she could. Giving the child goats milk as the men allowed her to. But the babe was restless and stirred in the unfamiliar place that her father was oddly vacant from. It was her high pitched scream that tore through the forest and spurred Carlisle to jump from his bed of leaves. "Erin." He said breathlessly. Dark eyes turning to the two women. His daughter was alive. And she was close. Thats Erin!" He said again, louder this time.

To give up who you are, I'll live without your face, your smile, regret it more than dying, and dying so young Eriu was supposedly on watch. Even still, as she sat against the trunk of a tree, her head was titled to the side, eyes closed tight as her chest moved up and down steadily. She was asleep, all these days of traveling made her tired. Though, at least they were somewhat close to where they needed to be. Being a swordsman was hard work. Protecting these two from whatever dangers lurked. Helping find the kidnapped infant. Indeed, it was such hard work. She had never stayed up and had to keep up with such a hastily group. The rest of the fae were much more efficient. Then again, they had wings and could fly places. This trip was done merely by foot. But oh how tired she was.
As she slept during her watch, she dreamt. A swirl of unexplainable things, lost in a wonderland of colors, people, figures. That was to say, that she didn't sleep well. She heard the cries of a child. A high pitched scream. Her eyes twitched beneath the closed lids, grunting a little as her head turned. The dark wolf in front of her. Wren was crying. Eriu reached out to him. Felix, stop, she pleaded. She knew that he was in there somewhere. She couldn't let him hurt her little Wren. But her cries went unheard. Her child's cries went unheard. The wolf lunged at her. She then awoke abruptly to a man that stood in front of her saying something. Rubbing an eye, she further awakened. Erin? That was his child wasn't it?
"It's her? Are you sure?" she asked, getting up from her spot in surprise. Eriu then just realized that she fell asleep on the job. She soon stood, standing near him. "We should head over there then!" she said with haste. If he could tell where the cry came from then they should head there immediately. If it was her, then this was their only chance before the kidnappers could move again. |

Aislyn slept lightly, as a deer might in the woods, but comfortably. Curled on a pile of bracken and covered only by her mane of wild white hair, loose now, she has gone to sleep quickly after Eriu had taken watch. She had been ever a quiet and somewhat distant companion, only speaking up when she thought she had something to add. She woke when the child's cry ripped through the quiet forest night but did not move, only her rose colored eyes opening to scan the dark. It was only when Carlisle's voice began to rise that she moved, rolling to her feet and going to stand in front of both him and the fae, pressing a finger to her lips.
"Quietly," she hissed. "We are most likely outnumbered and it does not good to go bursting in. Besides, Erin could get hurt in a fight." She leveled her gaze at Carlisle, making sure hse was understood before she stepped back. She undid her belt and shoved it into her bag, then began to change. It only took a couple of moments before she stood on hooves, a ghost elk in the night forest. Then she bounded off without waiting. She could get closer like this, just another creature in the woods. And now with the full use of her senses she could smell the body odor and old food.
Once closer she picked her way along, until she could cock her ears forward and hear what was going on. The bandits had their voices low. A woman was weeping softly, and there was the muffled sound of a child suckling on something. She crept closer. Peering through a screen of branches the bandits had woven to camouflage their camp, she saw a woman with a babe. The babe seemed fine, though the woman's face and arms were badly bruised. There were six men that she could see, most of them settling back to sleep.
Come North! She called back to Eriu and Carlisle. It was surprising how close they'd managed to come without realizing it. There are six men, armed. Two on sentry, the other four seem to be settling back to sleep. If the woman with your daughter can walk then we might be able to get them out quietly if we can avoid the sentries or cause an appropriate distraction.

Carlisle nodded in response to Eriu's question. He was positive it was her. When Aislyn moved forward with hissed words and a finger to her lips he brought a hand up to worriedly cover his lips. Hoping he hadn't ruined everything in his excitement. He had never witnessed a werebeast shift and even with his excitement over Erin he couldn't help but marvel at the beauty of it. Of the pale haired woman as she turned into a majestic beast that took off toward the sound. He looked over at Eriu curiously but before long a voice rang through his mind. It was startling and something he had never experienced before but he recognized the voice as Aislyn.
Maybe it was how they communicated when in their alternate form? He wasn't sure but now wasn't the time to question. He followed her instruction and moved North. His long limbs carrying him as silently as he could manage through the underbrush. When the white elk was again within view he stopped moving and crouched. Quietly or a distraction were their options. Carlisle was no warrior but these women knew how to fight. He made the silent decision that he would cause a distraction and leave his daughter in their capable hands. If the infant needed defending there would be little he could do. If they tried to sneak them out and things went south they would loose the element of surprise. He was soft spoken with a surgeons soft nimble hands. But he was tall and lanky, fast if need be.
He knew the woman/elk would hear him moving again with those sensitive ears of hers. To Eriu he would nod to Aislyn as if encouraging her to stay put. To help protect his child. Something he had failed at doing about a week ago. He crept around until he could see one of the sentries. Looking around his feet as best he could in the dark he managed to find a rock. A good sized one that felt heavy and smooth against his palm. Taking a steadying breath he suddenly arched the rock at the sentry. The projectile slamming into the mans shoulder with enough force to make him grunt then cry out. "SONOFA-Theres someone out there!" He screamed. Calling attention to himself and the dr still hidden mostly in shadow.
Snatching another rock he slung it as well. Already hearing the sounds of several people as they hurried toward them. "Give back my daughter!" Carlisle bellowed, reaching down to grab a third rock when a pain suddenly shot through his body. "Damn fool came out here alone? He must be insane." One of the men had the gall to laugh. "At least we got his coin before he lost his shit."
Carlisle gasp and pitched forward. Dark spots bursting in his vision and making it hard to see. With one hand he blindly searched for the source of the overwhelming red hot pain. His long fingers slipping down his torso to feel the bloodied shirt that was pinned against his side. The head of an arrow pricking his fingertips. He wasn't one to curse, not often at least. But he did then. A soft 'Damn' falling from his lips like rain. The arrow was far to his right side. Another inch to the right and it would have missed him completely. But even in this location where it likely only snagged skin and some tissue the pain was making him want to pass out.
"Erin!" He gasp, his head swimming and movements fluid like a man who had downed too much drink. "What should we do with him? And the other two?" They began debating the fate of Carlisle, Erin, and her babysitter while the man gasp from pain. Finding it impossible to do more than hunch over with his hands pressed around the wound as best he could. "Dammit!" He growled. Sounding almost threatening for probably the first time in his life.

Eriu watched as Carlisle left, hoping that he would be ok. She then was left alone, moving north to where Aislyn had told them to go. She was unsure of what to do herself exactly, but as she neared closer, keeping low between the brush she could hear his shouts and the guards responding. She peered her head above the bush, some leaves obscuring the sight of her over her head. She then saw his bloodied chest, and the guards were asking what to do with him and the other two. Her worried eyes scanned across the camp, until they hit an older woman and a child. The one that he was so looking toward. That must have been her. Well, there were no other babies in the vicinity, it had to be. But what was the fae to do? She looked from side to side, seeing no sign of where the elk had hidden herself, but even as she was in the surrounding area, she could not spot any sign of her or anything white for that matter. Then narrowing her eyes, Eriu decided that maybe she had to get to them first. She couldn't let anything happen to the baby, and she couldn't let Carlisle down.
Not knowing whether or not Aislyn had some sort of plan other than this, the fae bravely dashed from the bushes, running past the trees and making her way behind the flurry of guards as they were distracted by the human. As she ran she drew one of the serrated swords from her sheath, her other hand gliding across the blade quickly. The sword then shown with a bright light, perhaps that of a violet or blue, before fading. It would be a lot stronger now, in case one of them attacked her. Rushing beside the woman and the child, she quickly gestured to the older woman that it was time to go, back into the forest. She hoped that she would trust her, as her armor gave away that she was apart of the fairy swordsmen and she was not a bandit. Well, the petite fae would not quite match the description of a bandit even if she was one. But as she gestured for them to go backwards, back into the forest, she whispered, "There's an elk waiting for you." She took one final look at them, making sure that they got out before her. But that was when she was noticed by one of the bandits.
Turning around in surprise, Eriu took a protective stance, shielding the two behind her from any incoming danger. She looked back behind her toward them. "I'll take care of it," she said hurriedly, and then returned her gaze toward the men standing before her. She wielded the blade with two hands now, facing it toward them. "You are under arrest, by the command of Cendra City," she started, with a determined voice, never faltering. "You will halt your business here in the forest, and face justice!" she said, dark eyes looking directly at them. Of course, she didn't work for Cendra, but perhaps it would instill some sense into them. A laugh was given in response. She repositioned her blade, firm in her stance. "Surrender peacefully, and place down your weapons," she said. Although, now there were so many more men around here. More so than she had predicted. But she had to remain brave. Brave enough so that she could at least get herself and Carlisle out of there. She could almost feel her legs shaking though, but she could not show them that she was afraid. She waited for the right moment. Waited for Aislyn to come and show some sort of sign that the other two were safe. Then she would fly to Carlisle and bolt out of there.

It was much different, Aislyn thought, working with civilians instead soldiers. Still she didn't have time to criticize either of their acts- they both acted bravely and in accordance with their natures, which was all anyone could hope for. She heard Eriu's whisper before she plunged in after them and rather than flying in to help she waited. She heard the swift and brutal conflict that ended so quickly with Carlisle and pinned her ears back briefly in concern, but then it was too late to think about that. The woman came crashing frantically through the brush and Aislyn quickly sprang from her hiding place to block her path. She gave a scream, quickly cut short by the elk's mental voice.
Quickly, come with me! Put an arm around my neck and hold on tightly. She knelt and the woman clumsily mounted her like a horse. It wasn't comfortable, especially when one of her arms snaked around Aislyn's throat in a vice like grip. Still, it wasn't strong enough to cut off her air and the strain on her back was fine in the short term. With a less-than-graceful heave to her feet she moved off quickly.
I have them! She called back to Eriu and Carlisle, hoping they were both able to flee. Though mental communication was useful when she was shifted, they couldn't exactly call back to her the same way. Still, she didn't intend to abandon them. She only put distance between the bandit camp and their two hostages before she found a quiet hollow, hidden by leaves and brush. There she stopped and the woman slid off uncertainly.
Hide there and try to keep the babe quiet. I will come back and return you to the city as soon as I am able. Then she turned and bounded back towards the bandit camp to see what had become of her two companions on the meantime. If the fighting was still going on, she could help. If not she might be able to help divert pursuit. If it was all over then she wanted her bag of supplies. If anyone was wounded they would be necessary.
