Appearance:

Sam is very nice to look at, and he knows it. He has dark brown hair that is usually short but curls above his head. Occasionally he'll let it grow a bit longer but most of the time he is swimming so it's easier for it to be cut. His face is angular, with prominent eyebrows and cheekbones and an almost permanent smirk which can be very hard to wipe off. Sam thinks he's pretty cool, and his confidence shows in his posture, the nonchalant way he stands. He's never been ashamed of his physical appearance. Whether he's in human form or not, he is completely comfortable in his own skin/scales.

Sam's tail is dark green and emerald. It is three times as long as his abdomen and is very sleek and shiny. Many merfolk have remarked that the colour of his tail reminds them of the inside a clam. He becomes human from the waist up, except for a line along his spine, which is a gossamer fin. Because of his tail, and the amount of swimming he does on a daily basis, he is quite well toned.

His clothes are well made but not the highest of quality. He'll often be seen in a white shirt and loose fitting pants. Because of the lack of necessity for clothes in the ocean, Sam keeps all of his clothes in a little wooden shack by the beach.

Personality:

As formerly mentioned, Sam is confident. But only in himself. He isn't confident in his abilities, and he often frustrates over getting small tasks wrong; like making a cup of tea, or an unfinished drawing. He can do all he needs to in the ocean, but his experience on land is limited to the very basics. This annoys him. He works hard to rectify this. And often spends large chunks of time working on things he struggles to do.

Sam isn't wrong. That's to say, he's fairly argumentative. He likes to be right. And he will talk someone to their grave, picking apart every argument they present. In relationships with friends, family, acquaintances, or romantic partners, he often forgets to communicate, and lacks a certain amount of empathy. Anything you want him to know, you have to tell him. He isn't likely to figure it out on his own.

While he lacks the ability to know peoples' emotions and feelings towards him, he shows a level of respect to everyone around him. If he really cares about someone, he makes the effort to ask them how they are feeling and isn't shy to ask anyone anything. He is confident in his abilities in social situations because he does it so often. But he does have a habit of taking charge. Even if he's not the host.

Sam is extremely energetic and will throw himself into any task with maximum enthusiasm (as long as it interests him). He will often spend days on a task that allows him to put all of his energy and talents in. This much enthusiasm can make it difficult for Sam to focus on anything than the task at hand, and when presented with more than one or two things to do, his thoughts become sporadic and broken between them all, and it could overwhelm him.

Sam has little time for tradition, and takes much joy in creating his own solutions to existing issues. When given the creative freedom, he'll tackle any problem with unabashed glee.

History:

Sam's mother, Karmina Tsunami , had him before she was married to Earindil Wavesplitter . He spent his early childhood in the tropics. He remembered only faint glimpses of his father, Karmina told him that she had loved his father. His time in his birthplace was nothing more than a distant memory but when he returned to the warmer ocean, there was an undeniable familiarity about the reef and the sea life there.  When Karmina married the King, Sam had gone with her to the capital. It had been big and new and scary. He clung to his mother and peaked at this scary man who was his new father.

As time passed Sam grew fonder of the King, but he always felt there was a rift between them. His mother, on the other hand, became busier and all of a sudden Sam was spending more time alone, and around strangers. He made more friends in the castle. Karmina taught him to fight in her spare moments, and Sam grew up quite happy. His education was top notch and he made many friends, but he always felt somewhat separate from everything. Like there was an invisible line between him and everyone else.

As soon as he was old enough, Sam left for the land. His first steps on land were the best and scariest thing he'd ever done. He spent 5 years on land, visiting his mother every now and then. The sea and the land hold equal worth for Sam.

Sam has a small house near a beach, but he only visits it when he's travelling from land to sea or vice versa. He carries a small dagger his mother gave him, with a tiny Kraken wrapped around the hilt, it's eyes made out of tiny pearls.
