Magical Ability:
Like all dragons, Nicodemus has the ability to become a human at will. His elemental power is earth manipulation, and he can use it in a variety of ways. He can split the earth's crust as well as bring on earthquakes with only a little concerntration. It is the smaller things that require his attention, such as earth moving and earth attacks. The earth attacks are when he uses earth and earthen materials of different shapes and intensities as weapons or with the aid of his weapons..

Appearance:
Nicodemus is ancient and no one, even himself, remembers how old he is. He was quite small for the first few hundred years of his life, but he steadily grew. He is now the size of a small sized hill and is quite strong and bulky. His wing span is 35 metres long and his height is about 28 metres tall. He doesn’t transform a lot, but when he does, he should be away from man-made constructs or he may destroy them by accident. His scales are deep blue of the sky in the evening, with hues of dark purple on the underside of his wings and under his chest. His talons are dark purple as well, along with the sharp tip of his tail.
[break]
His human form is quite handsome, but also fairly young for his actual age. He is constantly changing his look, different hair lengths and styles to fit with the times. At the moment he has hair that is shorter than his ears, usually just swept back out of his face. Nico’s face is quite angular, and his cheekbones are a remarkable feature of his face. His skin is an olive colour, and his body is thin and muscular. His eyes are a hazel colour, and he has long eyelashes that could make anyone swoon. He is tall, but not overly so, standing at 189cm tall.

[break]
Personality:
As ancient as Nicodemus is, he has not seemed to mentally age very much despite all the years that have passed. He appears very calm; however, he is quite emotional. He can hold grudges over centuries over small grievances, but he can accept apologies easily if they are sincere. He is very vengeful and when his temper is flared it can be hard to reason with him. There is nothing he hates more than a liar despite hypocritically being one himself. He doesn’t like sharing secrets or much himself which can cause problems between him and others, especially those who call themselves his friends. He is very secretive about his homosexuality and it causes himself to be very insecure about himself. When he was much younger it was punishable by death to be gay and even though it can’t get him killed, he still fears other people knowing.
[break][break]
He is unexpectedly clumsy with his words and his body, often starting conversations in the middle of a story instead of at the start. He also has a very strong will and can be very stubborn when he wants to be which on the flip side means he is very determined and persistent is all parts of his life. He takes advice seriously and tries not to dismiss other’s opinions as he doesn’t want to appear to be rude. This is due to his aversion to starting conflict, however, he has no problem causing more problems for someone who has irritated him. Nicodemus does not recover well from grief and always carries it around with him in his heart. When he loves, he loves very deeply and very strongly. He doesn’t form attachments very easily as he knows that mortal life is fleeting and even the races that live for half a century are babies to him. Not many people can earn his trust or loyalty, but he gives it to the people who have weaselled into his heart or other dragon elders that he respects.

History:
Nicodemus was born with two dragon parents, Laurentius and Sekhmet. His father was a large dragon that was a black with dark blue streaks and his mother was a pure gold dragon. His parents were 450 years old when they had decided to settle down and have eggs. He had an older sister, Melinoe, and an older brother, Arai. He was supposed to have a twin sister, but the egg hadn’t hatched. He was a quiet child, letting his siblings do all the talking and learning things from their questions and the way that the adults responded to them. He was innately curious about the human world and the creatures that lived outside of their little world. His parent’s were sure to always keep them away from the cities, not from fear but disdain of the other races.
[break][break]
They didn’t travel much, and lived on a tall mountain where Nicodemus learned control. His first few years of his life were uneventful and full of repetitive games. His siblings were much older than him, so he didn’t play with them very often as they were very rough. At 20 years of age, he was itching to leave the nest and find different prey and smell different scents. He wanted to explore the world but he was too young to survive by himself. He would often sneak into Melinoe’s sleeping area and discuss with her the secrets of the world that she had yet to experience as well. He made her promise that when she left the nest that she would take him with her or come back for him as she was 50 years older than him.
[break][break]
He had to stay back home with his father when his mother and two siblings left for their human outing. Nicodemus wasn’t happy about it, but his father was strict and serious, a very scary figure in Nico’s mind. His mother was softer and kinder but both of them had strong boundaries on what he could and couldn’t do. The family was gone for a good week, and in that week Nico sulked around and barely ate. He was worried for his brother and sister. His sister had chosen to take the form a strict looking woman, in her mid-thirties while his brother had taken the form of a young boy. Before they had left, they had practiced the transformation countless times, but Nicodemus just hoped that they hadn’t slipped up at all.
[break][break]
They returned home unharmed and Nicodemus pestered the two with many questions about the human world and what it felt like to speak in their language. In private, Melinoe informed him that the two siblings had to leave in the next few months. Nicodemus was distraught, and he went to confront his mother about it. Sekhmet admitted it was because they were planning to have another batch of eggs and she didn’t want the nest to become too over crowded. Nico could do nothing to stop them from throwing them out, so he did what he does best, he sulked.
[break][break]
A month before Melinoe was due to leave, their mother was struck down in a lightning storm, plummeting to her death on the ground below. The family of dragons recovered her body a few days after she died, and the family was thrown into grief. Aria left that week, not saying anything but obviously being overrun by grief. Nicodemus felt numb to the grief and he couldn’t believe that his mother had been killed by nature itself. Laurentius had been looking after the egg when she had passed, and that was all that he would do. He refused to leave and refused to eat even if it was hunted for him. He just stayed with the egg until it hatched. That duty done, their father left.
[break][break]
Melinoe acted furious that their father had left while Nicodemus was very confused. He supposed that his father had never seemed particularly caring of the children, but the leave them helpless like that. Nico couldn’t even transform into a human yet, not for another 60 years. Melinoe told him that she would stay and help him learn all the things he needed to learn. They named their sister June, and Nicodemus could see that Melinoe loved raising the dragonette. They spent the next 30 years raising her, and Nico began to learn to learn the common languages of the humans and other races. He noticed that raising both of her younger siblings was having a noticeable drain on his sister.
[break][break]
Two years before he could complete his human transformation, Melinoe’s hunting trips became more frequent and he was puzzled about the reason. One day, he left June alone to follow his older sister. He found her transforming into a human and meeting a human man. He watched quietly and returned once he realised that they were courting each other. He didn’t know what to do. He wanted her to be safe and he wasn’t sure if humans were safe. He didn’t say anything about it, just leaving it to be. Time passed, and he was finally able to change his shape. He had thought long and hard about his form, wanting to be old enough to be recognised as an adult but with a well-functioning body.
[break][break]
Melinoe seemed reluctant to let him go alone, but she had to stay with June, so he went to a nearby city. Everything was new to him and it was just as good as he wanted it to be the first time he learned of the other races. He spent three days there before he decided to leave. He was starting to be concerned for June and Melinoe. When he returned home, he found that Melinoe had brought her human lover to their cave. Nicodemus was furious and quite shaken. The cave was the families safe place and he was terribly upset that she had brought a stranger there. He retreated into his room after arguing with her about it.
[break][break]
The next day, Melinoe announced that she was leaving with her human lover. Nicodemus could say nothing, feeling betrayed to his core, as she wished them goodbye. June was heartbroken, and Nico was full of emotions, none of them good. He was determined to be a good older brother for his youngest sister, even if his older sister had abandoned him. A year after she left, he couldn’t hand being in the cave all alone without the rest of his family. June was starting to get lonely and anxious, so they packed up and left their first home. They travelled for weeks in the air, before they came across a family of dragons, with about six family members. They were chased off after a day or two on the family’s land, despite being small and young.
[break][break]
They found a mountain in which they made their home for about half a year. A group of dragons came across them and demanded to share the territory and there was nothing Nico could do but share it with the older and more scary dragons that could hurt him or his sister. They stayed with this group for ten years before they left in the night. Nicodemus had started feeling more tension as he became almost as big as a member there and believed that if they had stayed there they would have chased off anyway.
[break][break]
He had started to regret leaving his family’s home, especially as he spent another 50 years trying to find a new territory. June stayed with him when they settled into their new home, very close to what is now the Fallen City. It was enough forest cover for both of the dragons. June had been taught how to transform and she was a dark-skinned teenager with golden hair, but she had never experienced interacting with humans. He took her to the not-so-Fallen City and she loved it there as much as he did. They returned to their new home, spending three centuries there, returning to live in the human city a few times in the centuries that passed.
[break][break]
What disrupted their harmony was the arrival of a small group of young dragons and their elf friend. Lysander the handsome aquamarine dragon, Francis the fiery red dragon, Bella the grey dragon and the odd elf named Hank. Nicodemus found a familiar spirit in the other dragons and became fast friends with them all. June was pleased to have more friends and they had enough territory to support them all. It was like a dream come true for Nico, friends and humans nearby.
[break][break]
He was deeply shocked and angry to find out that Fracis and Hank were in a relationship and he told all of them how wrong and nasty they were which almost cost him his friendship with all the other dragons. He left for many weeks on his own, not being able to come to grips that his Francis was like his sister. When he returned, the other dragons were cold to him until he apologised. He was still uneasy but that had nothing to do with them and was instead all to do with Lysander. Once he had learned of the existence homosexuals, he couldn’t stop thinking about how much he enjoyed Lysander’s company. Nicodemus began to questions himself but the identity crisis was not solved when June came and told him that she was in love with both the elf and the dragon. It was almost too much for him to handle but he didn’t reject her.
[break][break]
They lived in most harmony for many centuries after that, until a war broke out between the dwarves and the mages. It didn’t affect them directly, but Francis admitted that his mother and father lived in the dwarf side of the world. The odd group of dragons all left the safety of their home together to find their families and make sure they were all safe. Nicodemus didn’t speak of his family so nobody asked him, instead asking June. She knew barely anything and would often creep into Nico’s sleeping area just to ask questions.
[break][break]
He enjoyed being with the rest of the group, but he had started to realise that he truly had fallen in love with his best friend. He was disgusted in himself so after another war broke out between the werebeasts and the humans, he announced his departure. June begged him not to leave but he insisted that she would be alright. She had her mates and she had her friends. He admitted that he doubted he would see them again soon but he hoped they would cross paths again. He went to the human capital city and enrolled to be a soldier. He wanted to learn how to protect himself better. He wanted to see the raw human side of people while out of the battlefield. He wanted…to experience things.
[break][break]
He fought in the war as a human, managing to scape by with his life. He left the army for a while and searched for his sister and friends. He spent a century travelling as a human and as a dragon throughout the nation to try and find his friend and he ended up settling in the a small human town. There, he apprenticed to be a blacksmith, but he was fired soon after due to his clumsiness. He started to become uneasy as word of dragon attacks on the Elf Kingdom. He knew that the Eldest Dragon had been attacked by some elves, so he began to wonder if that was the reason.
[break][break]
Soon after, he became a page. He worked his way up and became a squire. Here, he learnt all that he could about weapons. He left the kingdom before he could become a knight, not wanting people to notice that he did not age. He moved to a coastal city, where he learned how to weave and hunt fish. He would often transform over the ocean, but never go for a swim in it as he had never learned how to. He enjoyed the ocean sea and for two centuries he travelled along the coast, moving from town to town.
[break][break]
In one town, he came across Lysander in his human form. Nicodemus was surprised and overjoyed to see his best friend, but he didn’t show it. Lysander was happy to have his friend back and taught him how to swim in the ocean. The two headed back to the group together where he met all his friends once again. They were happy to have him back and he was shocked to find that his sister had tiny baby dragonettes. He didn’t know how to feel about this, but he acted happily enough for the rest of the group to believe him. He left within three years despite the protests and tried to find the source of his unrest.
[break][break]
Centuries passed by slowly as Nicodemus got sick of resuming different lives in different places. He found the City of Stars and lived there for almost two centuries, knowing that he would be mostly safe there and that no one would question him too much. He made a few friends there, but none as close as him as his dragon friends. That was where he lerned the true art of swordsmanship. Once he had enough of the sand and the sun, being trapped in his human body for way to long, he moved back to the Dryghtwood forest.
[break][break]
He knew that there were many wars going on, despite living somewhere that was cut off from the rest of the world. He had decided to stay out of things and lived off of the forest. This was where another earth dragon found him. Her name was Renae and she was much older than Nico however she wanted company. The two of them were friends for a long time, however she expressed that she was in love with him and he didn’t know how to respond. He let her down gently, however she still insisted that they would make good, strong children. Nicodemus had become uncomfortable by then and rejected her, leaving the next day.
[break][break]
He was out flying when he witnessed the first Dragon Hunt. He got involved but he was chased off by arrows that grazed his wings and under his eyes. He didn’t know the dragon, so he left without too many injuries. As a human, he ventured into the nearest town for some healing and was left with an explanation. The races had decided that dragons were too hard to handle and had started to hunt them down after towns and cities had been destroyed. Nico wasn’t very scared, but he was concerned for his race. He didn’t think that the races could bring many of them down, but he immediately sought out the information for the whereabouts of the Eldest Dragon.
[break][break]
He was directed towards the dragon and he had a long conversation with him. He ended up being dismissed and he returned home again. As the centuries passed and the dragon population got smaller, he realised the races working together to bring the dragons down was slowly starting to work and he began to get nervous about living by himself. He travelled far and wide, refusing to stay in the same place for too long. That was until he stopped into a small town and recognised a woman. It was his older sister, with three children. He caught up with her and found that her first lover had passed and she had one children with him, but the little girl had been a human. He found out that she had a new husband and she was very happy with her family.
[break][break]
He disagreed with her intermingling with the humans so much to have different generations of children, so he decided to leave. While he flew out, his sister followed. She apologised for not being a good enough big sister, but he ignored her, his first mistake. He heard the sound of an arrow, and it pierced Melinoe’s wing, bringing her hurtling to the ground. He followed her as she tumbled to the group, trying to catch her despite the almost constantly flow of arrows that rained down on them. He managed to fail and she landed heavily on the ground. A group of men ran out and stabbed her with spears, while others threatened him with their big pointy sticks. He couldn’t use his earth manipulation while his sister would be caught in the cross fire so he ended up with many injuries all over his body and he battled the men.
[break][break]
He recognised a man as he ran across to Melinoe and he relaxed, knowing that it was Melinoe’s husband, his second mistake. Melinoe’s husband was the one that dealt the killing blow. Nicodemus’ roar was filled with anguish and he fought even harder, grabbing his brother in law and crushing him underfoot. Nico soon escaped and spent a while trying to find his friends. When he finally found them, Francis and Bella were dead. He stayed with his friends, completely distraught. They all went undercover as humans in the human kingdom, and in that time Nico became even closer to Lysander.
[break][break]
He ended up admitted his love for Lysander and the sea dragon had to gently let him down. Lysander wasn’t interested at all, in fact he had been a relationship with Bella before she had passed. Despite the offer to be still be friends, Nico left, very ashamed and upset with himself. He ended up at the Grand Library for a good many years, where he volunteered to help in the upkeep of the books and the old building. He didn’t here from his friends and presumed them to be dead.
[break][break]
He left after five years, wanting some time to himself. He ended up finding a vacant cave where he settled in for a long hibernation. He woke up very hungry but not lonely at all. He had secluded himself from any contact at all, so when a huge dragon barged into his territory, it was a full out brawl. Nicodemus didn’t spare any strength in killing this dragon that he presumed had been trying to steal his territory and kill him in sleep. He ended up opening the ground below him and crushed the dragon to death.
[break][break]
Once he had recovered his senses, he realised his big mistake. He had just killed another dragon, something that was unacceptable since there was so little of them left. Fearful, he left cave and rushed away. Months later, a member of the Dragon Council found him, announcing that he was the Eldest Dragon as the only dragon older than him had been killed. Nicodemus couldn’t refuse the position, so he flew to meet the other elders. He was nervous meeting them, not being able to understand how he was the oldest. He realised that it meant that his brother and father must be dead.
[break][break]
He took on the role with much hesitation, glad that it was not a full-time job. He didn’t think himself as very wise, despite his worldy experiences. The next thousand years passed with much hiding and very few flights into the world. He and the council were reluctant to sign the treaty but they did, hopeful that ot migh help but doubting it very much. He recently came out of hiding, and took the job of the human royal family’s falconer.
