Magical Ability:
Summoning/"Planes-Walking"/Conjuration:
This particular school of magic has many names, all of which leave a particular distaste on most of the more strict mages tongues, and anyone who ever served in the wars and saw the horrors this particular branch caused by those that were born under its influence. The short version; Dorian is able to call into existence otherworldly beings and completely bind them to his will. These beings can vary wildly in appearance (skeletal forms, wolf-like animals, ghasts, wraiths, tiny impish creatures, humanoid demons, etc.) and ability, though most are used for combat. Every creature summoned always appears to have an aura of darkness and is easily identified due to this. It appears as if darkness itself seeps from their pores, but it is not darkness but a form of corrupted magic.
[break]
[break]
The size of the creature has a large effect on how taxing it is for Dorian. Small creatures are very easy to control, and often multiple can be summoned. Humanoid creatures can only be summoned one at a time and require a lot more effort. Larger creatures require an extraordinary amount of focus and strength. The control of the creatures is tied directly to Dorian's mind and his focus. If he ever loses focus on one it will break free from his control and gaining control again is incredibly difficult. Creatures free from his control gain their own will and can no longer be banished by him but must be killed. So even though they may appear as if they have a mind of their own, they are always totally controlled by Damien, I.E. will not act for themselves. Smaller creatures are far easier to control and sometimes Damien will allow them to have some freedom of will to be more useful. Humanoid creatures require his total control and may fight independent of him, but still require his total control. Creatures larger than a human require his total and absolute control, meaning they are literal puppets. He cannot act independently of them, how he moves is how they move otherwise they break free. Anything larger than this may theoretically be possible to summon, but impossible to control at this stage of his skill. Creatures that have broken free from his control almost always try to kill Dorian over anyone else. The size and amount of time he is controlling them determines how taxing it is on Dorian. Larger creatures can actually cause him to pass out and have major migraines if he tries to sustain their control for too long.
[break]
[break]
The more complicated explanation of his ability is that Dorian is not summoning these creatures from nothing. In the blink of an eye he is tearing a rift into another plane of existence and forcing these creatures out of it. This "rift" or "tear" can be sustained long enough to work two ways; meaning he can force creatures out of it, and he himself can enter it. These rifts can be used to travel very large distances in a very short amount of time. This is NOT teleporting though, on the contrary, he has to travel through this alternate plane to get anywhere. The reason it appears to be teleportation is because time is very different in that reality, one day there is akin to one hour in our world. Meaning he can travel an hour in the "rift" and it appears to be nearly instant. The rules of this reality are also very different, magic is much more powerful in this plane than, meaning it is an excellent place to study, practice, travel, and summon. There is a major downside to using it though (or several), first off the horrific creatures he calls in to existence live here in abundance. Secondly, the plane has an incredibly corrupting influence. As the use of the magic related to that place is tied to the mind, very extended stays here can actually destroy the mind of anyone not from there. This is one of the reasons why most magic users are strict on the use of it, because nearly everyone born with this ability falls to its influence and becomes what some might call "evil". As such, Dorian practices in secret and while some know that he is a summoner, few know that he is actually born to this ability (which he alludes to in order to keep the other a little more secret).
[break]
[break]
Combat Magic: Dorian is able to emit small blasts of fire, ice, and air during combat. None of these “blasts” are in and of the themselves deadly. They are only useful when coupled with with the strength of his sword arm and speed of his body. He blends their use seamlessly with his flow of combat much like using a second weapon in his offhand. While his defense magically is better than his offense, he wouldn’t dare challenge a mage who is focused on any of these three elements on their use. Not to mention he isn’t able to wield this elements on any large scale. While they can badly hurt if caught off guard, he has found it to be far more useful in tactical ways. E.g, using a blast of air to spray sand in an opponents face, a blast fire to hide the movement of his sword and distract, or ice to brittle leather armor.
[break]
[break]
Though it has taken exhausting practice and research over decades to get to the point he is at, and he is able to use them skillfully in combat. Outside of combat however, their display is quite pathetic in most aspects. Without his sword and actual physical skill it is unlikely that he could actually kill anyone with this, unless they stood very very still for a while. The fact that he only ever openly uses this magic has many questioning how he ever became head tracker, or even a use to the school due to the staggering limits and lack of power of this magic seems to have for him. This is because most assume that this is his main ability though, only because they have seen no other.

Appearance:
Dorian at first glance appears to be quite the intimidating figure. Standing at a little over 6'4" and obviously very fit from exercise and combat, he is doesn't appear to be someone who spends all his time studying within the school. He has dark drown hair that extends into a nearly permanent, and very well trimmed, beard. The dark hair often makes his light brown eyes appear much brighter than they actually are. His resting face often seems incredibly stern and serious, but there is always a slight playfulness (or deviousness) in his eyes and at the edge of his lips that suggest he isn't the rule bound person most at the school are.
[break]
[break]
He is almost always found to be wearing a mix of leather and chainmail, allowing for quick movement but good protection. By almost always, it is seriously an unnatural amount of time he spends in armor. As such he is also always found with two shortswords strapped to his back, a dagger tied openly to his ankle, and several bolas attached to his waist. Making it appear as if he is constantly ready to go hunting something incredibly angry. The armor is died a neutral shade of grey and a bloody red, much like the colors of the creatures he summons. When he is not dressed in armor he actually enjoys wearing very fancy clothing (again, grey and red shades). This and the fact that his hair and beard are almost always trimmed and styled immaculately might lead some to call him vain. Dorian prefers the word "dashing", but to each their own. Under these clothes he almost always has at least some leather armor on, even in heat... So yeah, he is always armored.
He has a marking that covers his entire back:
The symbol covers his entire back with the the eye being cradled at the base of his head and the outer points reaching up to his shoulders. It is the same symbol that each male of his family has always had, and is an ancient glyph representing a gate and passage.

Personality:
Trying to define and explain Dorian is much like trying to explain the taste of salt to someone that has never had it. Once you taste it, you know what it's like, but you can never quite use words to explain that. Likewise, in small doses it can make things great and amazing, and bring flavor and colorfulness into a scene. On the flipside too much will kill you, and in this, we have Dorian.
[break]
[break]
On the surface he is incredibly talkative, sarcastic, flirtatious, somewhat bothersome... annoying really... Ok, he can be obnoxious at times but let's not get hung up on that. Depending on your outlook Dorian can either be the life of the party or someone you want to sneak behind and slit his throat. He has an incredibly dark sense of humor, is overly sarcastic and very disdainful to life in general. In fact, in many ways, he appears completely apathetic to every difficulty anyone else has, including his own. He also has absolutely no bounds on who he flirts with, except for he is straight... mostly, he does have tendency to literally flirt with any creature that has a heartbeat (and some without). As such, he can be described as both charming and infuriating, which is exactly what he wants.
[break]
[break]
You see, this is his mask, it's what he covers himself with. He is charming enough to make you like him, annoying enough to make you hate him, and manipulates both of these emotions so that he can get what he needs and never actually reveal anything about himself. Deep down Dorian is incredibly passionate about the needs of his kind, being the mages, and as such is deeply interested in the politics and rumors of other nations (often involving himself in other courts to find ways to further the image of the mages or possibly protect them). With this in mind it's not hard to see that he is fiercely loyal to those he calls friends as well. If you manage the incredible feat of gaining his trust, you will not find a more loyal friend. This is about where the line is drawn though. He protects and helps friends and mages, but beyond that he is far more interested in himself. On top of this, regardless of his "mask", he exudes self-confidence, authority, control and dominance. Obviously a side-effect of having to focus so hard to control his magic, his power is literally the mental breaking and dominance of monster; as such, he tends to show the same focus and confidence in day to day life.
[break]
[break]
"Good" and "Evil" mean very little to Dorian, as do morality and immorality. He is far more interested in cause and effect. As such, despite his immense respect for the leadership of the school, he has butt heads with many of the masters on occasion for his views. Some of his views being his disgust for the Force of the Ashes Treaty, and the restriction of magic against mages (and himself). However, he takes his job very seriously, which is why the headmaster made him the head of the trackers (against the vote of some of the other faculty). As he is very concerned with the well being of mages, and their protection. That being said, it is often questionable whether his act of being a drinking, sarcastic, womanizing, hole of the buttocks that he is, is actually an "act.

History:
Dorian's story starts long before he was ever born, when the Namara family made a name for themselves. His grandfather was a very famous warrior and mage in the wars before the treaty was ever enacted. Cendrin Namara was a name known around at the time for being a remarkably powerful summoner. Conjuring into existence terrifying eldritch creatures. Among the masters of the elements he helped inspire fear of the mages among many other races. Unfortunately, it was also due to him (among many other reasons) that mages restricted themselves after the war. As the war went on, his grandfather would spend more and more time in alternate planes perfecting his magic and studying ancient horrors. His power grew outside of the planes, but his grip on reality began to slip. As the corruption began seeping into his very soul his power grew substantially, and he failed to care who was friend or foe. Summon terrifying monsters into existence he began to wage war on everything, including other mages. A council of mages decided to kill him before he ended up hurting their own people. So Cendrin Namara was assassinated by his own people for becoming a homicidal maniac, leaving behind a single son and his wife. This was Dorian's father.
[break]
[break]
Dorian's father grew in the shadow of Dorian's grandfather, both for the power he wielded, and the shame he brought on his family. So Arathor Namara, Dorian's father, set out to bring honor to the Namara name once more. Joining the school at a young age, before his grandfather had even been killed, his father began making a name for himself. Eventually becoming a scout for the school, seeking out those sensitive to magic and protecting the school from foreign threats. Untainted by the power that always passes through the Namara line, he used his powers respectably. After several years of quiet but honorable service he became a teacher working under one of the masters, it was there he met Aela. The two fell in love and by the next year, he married her. Soon after she became pregnant, and they became the incredibly proud parents of a bouncing baby boy; Dorian.
[break]
[break]
The family couldn't be more proud, or happy. Sure, there were a lot of people that reminded them of the atrocities his grandfather had committed, but it didn't matter to them, they had each other. Slowly people began to forget the fear they had for he name Cendrin Namara the summoner, and only think of the incredibly happy family of Arathor Namara; teacher. It would seem no happiness could last forever though. Dorian was born with the mark of the Namara's on his back, a mage. The largest mark that Arathor had ever seen or heard of in their family, and as a child he showed a natural aptitude for magic. As such he was brought into the school to be taught, as every mage was. Dorian excelled in the school, displaying skill, and arrogance. Arathor tried to warn him over and over of the importance of controlling yourself, especially with the magic they possessed. Despite being told to train only under guidance and restricted conditions, Dorian began sneaking out to explore what his abilities could really do. Summoning without permission or guidance was one of the many, many rules that Dorian had from his father; and one of the many he broke on a regular basis.
[break]
[break]
When Dorian was 17 years old he snuck out one night away from the school, as he had been doing for some time now, to practice his skills. This was the going to be a special night, he was going to try something his father had always told him not to do... He had realized that when he summoned something, it wasn't coming from nothing, he was actually opening a door and a door was something that could be opened both ways. So on this night, he was going to try and walk through the very door he pulled creatures from. Everything was going fine, he summoned a few creatures and banished them easily; feeling great. So he tried it, actually opening this door. It worked! The tear opened and revealed what seemed to be an entirely different world, one that was filled with total darkness and raging fires at the same time. Just as Dorian was about to step inside he heard a shout behind him, it was his parents. His mother got there first and pulled Dorian back from the "gateway", she began to scold him and whispered to close the gate before his father got there or he would be punished severely. Before she could finish talking a monstrous creature reached out of the gateway and grabbed her. Despite being a skilled mage herself the creature nearly ripped her in half as it pulled her inside its plane.
[break]
[break]
Dorian panicked, fighting frantically to save his mother, and in his panic lost control of the gateway. It closed just as his father arrived. Crying he explained what he had done and what happened. His father was quiet for moment and then told Dorian to go home, that he would find her. Dorian acted like he was leaving but hid behind a bush to watch. He watched as his father Arathor opened a rift... and stepped inside. As Dorian ran to out to call for him the rift closed. He was left alone in the darkness of the forest. He waited for several seconds, which turned to several minutes... and into hours... and Dorian fell asleep in the clearing. He awoke to the sound of the rift tearing open once more in front of him, the sun was shining now, and he rubbed his eyes as he watched his father step out of it... alone. His father's face was pale, his hands looked burned and the sword he normally carried was chipped, bent a little, and covered in a black liquid. Arathor stared at Dorian for a time in silence, then asked his son what day it was. Dorian said it was just the morning after he had entered, his father looked bewildered and then began slowly walking home. Dorian inquired about his mother and his father simply responded that he couldn't find her.
[break]
[break]
Over the next two years Arathor began spending more and more time inside what Dorian began calling the rift. The headmaster knew it and released Arathor from his position as an instructor. Dorian was old enough that he couldn't stay in the school anymore, and with his father gone had to find work where he could around the town to support his father's expeditions. Every time his father left though he spent more time gone. First it was only hours, after time it became days, and then months. By the time Dorian was 19 he had to watch his father's slow descent into madness as he spent more and more time in that hellish plane looking for his mother. His father when he was home often began talking to himself, screaming in his sleep, and yelling at whispers that didn't exist. Then one day he woke up and his father was in the living area of their house, dressed and hair combed. He told Dorian he was going one last time to look for his mother, then be done. Dorian pleaded with him not to go, and to just let his mother go. His father gave him a hug, laughed, and then opened up the rift, stepped inside and was gone. That was the last time Dorian saw his father, or so he thought. Once again, like that fateful night, he was left alone staring at a dark empty house. Dorian refused to work, he waited for days, and months, and years for his fathers return. Eventually hiring on as a spell-sword for a group of mercenaries; working as muscle or help for hire. For four years he worked for them, never hearing from his father.
[break]
[break]
Though it seemed like Dorian had moved on, he hadn't. The entire time he was with those mercenaries he was training. Learning to fight, to defend himself. He knew what was inside that plane, and he knew he had no ability to fight them. By the time he was 24 though, he felt he was ready. Ready to find his parents, or at least try to figure out what happened. He left the group, and began to privately summon monsters of all sizes, and then release them and fight them to the death with magic and sword to get a taste of what was inside. Then on one fateful summer morning he followed his fathers footsteps, and his grandfather before him, and opened the portal and was gone.
[break]
[break]
What happened inside that plane is a mystery to everyone, Dorian has never talked about it. All that is known is that he was gone for nearly 5 years, which isn't much time, but translated to the time within the plane is nearly 110 years. All that is known is near after 5 years there were rumors of attacks in the Duskmire woods, on the border of the Naihan mountains of terrible creatures. The school sent one of their trackers to investigate, but he never came back. One of the representatives of a school, a powerful mage, began to investigate for himself. He found that someone was summoning creatures and commanding them to attack people. After several days he found the person responsible, it was a mage, so tainted that he himself looked like one of the summoned creatures. The mage from the school and this "necromancer" battled for quite some time. The mage eventually began to succumb to the onslaught from the dark magic of this magic, but right as the dark mage was going to strike a killing blow a tear into the rift opened between them... and out stepped Dorian. His muscles hardened from decades of combat he turned on the dark mage, protecting the mage from the school. He cut through the summoned creatures protecting him, banishing some of them before engaging in a combat to the death with the dark mage.
[break]
[break]
After hours of battling the dark mage made a fatal mistake which Dorian took advantage of and sunk his sword deep into the mages chest. As the dark mage fell, the only words Dorian spoke were "It's over", before he himself collapsed. The mage from the school quickly helped him, recognizing him as the young Dorian Namara who had disappeared several years ago. He healed him as best he could, then carried him back to the school. Dorian was unconscious for nearly a week. When he came to he wildly attacked the nurses and healers of the school before they managed to calm him down and explain what had happened. Dorian asked what year it was and seemed completely bewildered that only 5 years had passed. Dorian took a great appreciation to the help from the school. It took nearly a year for him to completely recover, but when he did he asked the headmaster if he could serve in some way. Dorian never spoke of what happened inside the rift, but spent all his time recovering, studying, and helping in any way he could around the school. Eventually he was made a tracker as he gained the respect of the headmaster, and after several years became the head tracker due to his devotion and skill. It was discovered later that the man he killed those years ago had actually been his father, but few knew that.
[break]
[break]
To this day Dorian still fiercely defends the school and organizes the trackers to find those sensitive to magic. Some are apprehensive at his presence due to the history of his family, but he has proved his loyalty time and again and that despite spending so much time inside the rift, his strong will and skills over his own ability have not tainted him. This isn't to say he has completely proved his sanity, but at least his loyalty, and for the time being that was enough for the headmaster. Up until now everyone his family had gone on psychopathic rampages after being corrupted by their magic, but Dorian's willpower has proved incredibly strong... up until now.

Miscellaneous:
Dorian is very vocal about his disgust for moderation for mages, and several aspects of the Force of The Ashes Treaty.
He is a fairly heavy drinker.
He rarely uses his summoning in public, nor does he travel through the rift where people are watching very often.
He likes puppies.
