Magical Ability:
Arlyn has the power to manipulate water. He can only use this power when water is present, as he cannot conjure up water from out of thin air. He can shape and direct it, but cannot create any existing water force or take it away. It is restricted by ice and snow, as he cannot manipulate it for it is too thick. Arlyn can create mist or fog from existing water sources, however. He cannot manipulate different liquids such as oil, wine, blood, and is only limited to salt or fresh water. His powers originate from his mother’s side of the family, most of whom had water-related magic. His mother had the power to manipulate ice and snow.

In order to manipulate the water it uses up his energy, and the larger amount of water he is using, the more energy it takes up. Were he foolish enough to raise the ocean, he would surely collapse and die before it could even reach that length. Another weakness is electricity. If the electric current gets caught up in the water, it could prove to be an end for him.

One aspect that can be considered to strengthen his ability is that it is already in the form of a body of water. For example, manipulating water from a pond can be so much quicker and more precise than raising the water from beneath the soil or dew on the leaves.

Appearance:
An aged man, Arlyn has the typical appearance of an elder. Blue eyes and grey hair, the mage certainly looks that he went through many experiences. Often keeping a stern expression on his face and rarely laughing, he gives off the impression of the well-known teacher or as his Elemental Master title. He often dons himself in blue robes, the color of his element. He wears exquisite robes only on formal occasions, otherwise typically wearing his simple and plain ones. Arlyn sometimes carries a staff around, but it is usually when he is traveling.

Personality:
He believes that the unknown should be left alone, and is very strict with magic and knowledge. He cares very much for sustaining peace and helping those in need. Although, he is a no nonsense kind of guy, and around younger people he acts with a teacher-sort of demeanor. He is wary around those who research magic.

History:
The story of Arlyn begins many years ago, just before the war had just ended. His mother and father were both on opposing sides. The mother was a mage, the father a werewolf. However on the day they first met was when they collided on the battlefield, the werewolf had discovered that he had found that she is his mate. After a long series of conflict, the two eventually decided to run off together away from the war to live in seclusion on the border of the mountains of Naihan. Of course the mother was accustomed to the snow due to the nature of her powers and the father due to his fur. However that did not change that living away from society was a harsh reality but they were ready to embrace it. However they did not expect the worse things to come.

The brother of the father had finally found them after a long search, and killed his own for dishonoring the pack by fleeing the war. He spared the woman because she was with child but left her alone in the wilderness. The werewolf did not inform her of the war’s end, so she did not seek sanctuary within any city. Instead she continued to live as she had, alone but alive. She thought that she could raise her son in the mountains, until a year later illness fell upon her. By this time the boy was three, and was sought out by a mage sent from Lledrith. He came in search for the newborn with magic in the woods somewhere in the Naihan Mountains, but wasn’t exactly sure of his location due to the long time of travel. The mage arrived close to the border of the mountains and the Dryhtwood Forest in the north, to find a dying, sickly mother on the ground grasping tightly to her child. He quickly ran to aid her, however once he took the child in his hands she smiled, then closed her eyes, never to open again.

Distraught, the mage took the child as his own student, regretful that he was unable to save his mother. Discovering the water marking on his shoulder, he named the child Arlyn, which meant “water battle” as the mage knew that it would be a battle to control and learn his powers as a mage. He gave him the surname of Norwood, so that he can remember that he had hailed from the woods of the north. As he travelled with Arlyn back to the city, the mage helped many people along the way and stopped by many villages to see if they were in need of help. They remembered him as Suraci. He had the powers of light, and used them in many different creative ways in order to help others. Arlyn was inspired by him even at his early age.

In Lledrith, Arlyn looked up to Suraci as a father figure, however they maintained the relationship of student and teacher. Suraci was devout in his research of magic, aiming to discover many ways to use his magic to help others. He taught Arlyn what he knew, and how to best use his water abilities. Arlyn was fascinated with magic as well, and studied hard so that he could help others, just like his mentor. They sometimes travelled the lands to discover more about magic while aiding those in need. A lesson that Suraci often taught to Arlyn was that magic should only exist to help or defend people. He warned him that water can be a dangerous force, if not used correctly, and therefore he was strict with Arlyn’s usage of his powers. But the most important lesson that Arlyn remembered was “should those who use their magic for evil, to kill and slay others without a purpose, should be destroyed to protect the whole.” As Arlyn grew older, the duo travelled less, as Suraci was aging. Though the man continued to help others, he kept to himself more often, devoted more to researching his magic. Sometimes, he would lock himself up in the study, much to Arlyn’s dismay, however he remained kind. Arlyn presumed that it was because he was becoming elderly and needed more time to rest. However, that was until the day that Suraci said goodbye, and left the school to never be seen again. Arlyn, who could not handle being alone, studied hard so that one day he could find him. Some speculated for the reasons Suraci left, but he told no one the reason. Once Arlyn became a full-fledged mage as an adult, he ventured out of the city, in search of his former mentor.

From the Realms of Mir to the Dryhtwood Forest, Arlyn still could not find his teacher. Along the way, he helped the other races and many people, but doing that alone did not bring him any satisfaction, although he thought that doing this would make his teacher proud. He searched and searched, his magic becoming more powerful and his mind more experienced. However, he did find something quite particular near the Dangerous Reaches. He came across a very small village where the people had warned him to stay away as they fled, saying that whoever entered would be murdered. Determined to stop the force, Arlyn made his way into the town, to find a series of lightning bolts striking anyone who neared the center. He was wary, knowing that lightning was his own weakness, but he knew that he could not back away from this. It was a potential threat that could spread if he did not stop it. However, he noticed that it was caused by one person, one person who stood in the center with crazed looks in his eyes, the man once known as Suraci. Horrified and shocked, Arlyn moved closer to the figure, wondering if that could really be the kind teacher from many years ago, the one who had raised him. Suraci recognized him, and was surprisingly happy to see his former student. He claimed that he had found the truth, discovered what he could do with his magic, and how that he could help so many people. But Arlyn knew that he had gone insane, his mind lost in the research of magic. It was painful, and unfortunately a long battle, due to the fact that Arlyn had the lower hand, however Suraci was so determined to fight him, angered by the fact that Arlyn did not agree with his methods. It lead to his own downfall, as he was chasing Arlyn he struck by one of his own lightning bolts.

The many years after Arlyn spent his time in the wilderness, he wandered the lands alone. His mind pondered much about the use of magic and what it had done to his mentor. Eventually, he decided what to do. He returned to the city, and became a teacher himself at the Lledrith School, to make sure that the students would not become like his former teacher. He climbed the ranks over the years, eventually becoming an Elemental Master, taking the title of Master of Water. Arlyn took his role with great responsibility, maintaining order and working with others to protect their race. He also began to travel more, seeking out those who had the potential to become like his former mentor so that he could stop them. He traveled mostly along the coast, to battle the raging sea within his soul. Trying to control his powers, he tried to make sure that he himself would not become like Suraci at all costs. He eventually wandered the lands to help people like his teacher taught him, making sure that his powers would only be used for defense and healing, but he doesn’t realize that his fear of him and other becoming like his mentor might eventually lead him going down that same path….
