| S he had been called to the kings chambers on this night like many before it. She moved through the halls without fear of repercussion. Although she did still keep a watchful eye out for the queen. While the woman had never really even spoken to her Kamaria couldn't help but fear what might come if she did. She was the mistress after all, that generally wasn't someone that queens had warm fuzzy feelings for. Kamaria had left her dark curls down on this night and donned a robe over her slip of clothing. Once she reached the kings chambers she didn't step inside even with an invitation. She knocked softly and waited while trying not to fidget in the lonely hall. Was he in a good mood tonight? She hoped he was. Justus had never physically hurt her. Intentionally at least. He was unnaturally strong though and he could easily leave bruises on her caramel skin without even trying. But the possibility was always there that he would grow tired or annoyed with her. Immortals were known for their fleeting infatuations. She didn't dislike her time with the king. However it did little to curb the lonely feelings she was left with. Perhaps that was why she had searched for someone to make a connection with. Someone like Ezra. It hadn't been intentional and she knew very well that she was playing with fire. Even so she couldn't stop. "My king." She said softly, lingering close to his door to keep her voice from carrying down the echoing stone walls. "You summoned me?" And then she waited for his reply. Her slender arms wrapping around herself as she waited to be beckoned inside. |

519 words for @kamaria notes: finally done xD. sorry it took a while. A PERFECTLY CONSTRUCTED ALIBI These were one of the nights he could not sleep , neither did he think that the sleeping queen would like to be awaken because of his lack of willingness to actually close his eyes for just a little while. Justus and Elysia had been on outs for a long period of time now , this was nothing new. After spending decades with someone sometimes think hit rough patches or things get less exciting. He remembered the days when everything was a lot simpler. Justus had never thought he would become king , being a immortal ... that wasn't something common that happened. His father had ruled for so long , that somewhere in the mist of it all they had lost track. The day his father had chosen his own fate was the day Justus thought he might have really become the person who he had been shaped to this day. He didn't think he was a unjust man , he didn't think he was all the cruel either. He was a king and he did what he had to , he always put the kingdoms best interests at heart.
The night he called on Kamira. The day he set eyes on her he knew her must have her. She was so innocent , so naive and that was what attracted him most to her. You don't get that from immortals , they had lived so long that they didn't have that innocence anymore. She had not been the first woman he had chosen to come live at court with him but she was much less materialistic then others. With the others the liked the very little power they had while they were at court ( not that everyone else liked them) , they liked the dresses and the jewelry. A lot of them just like the fact that they could share a bed with the king. But Kamira was different. He wasn't sure what her real need was , he wasn't sure why she even agreed to any of this. For the most part he like to just think about what they were doing in the moment. He never dared flaunt her in front of the queen , but she was no secret either.
Moments later of summoning her , she arrived at his door. He recognized her soft silk like voice once she spoke. Opening the door he laid eyes on her. Justus was in his silk pajamas. He motioned her to come inside , waiting then shutting the door behind her. "I did." , he confirmed that he had summoned her to his chambers. "Come to me." , he motioned her to come to him again. His hand raising to brush her brown locks out of her eyes. " Tell me something Kamaria. Why do you stay at court ?" , he asked her with a raised eyebrow.
He knew he was strong , of course he was. That was his power even though that was nothing he shared with anyone but Elysia. People just knew him to be fit and strong. He never pushed the boundaries. His rested on the young human in front of him.

Kamaria entered his quarters when the king opened the heavy doors. Stepping inside she offered him a smile and moved closer when she was bade to do so. The gentle touch of his fingers pushing her curly locks back away from her face caused her to look up at him curiously. Something was on his mind. She wasn’t naïve enough to think she knew the king well at all. Only what he revealed to her. But it was obvious that on this night something was keeping him awake. Part of her wondered if he had nightmares like Ezra, although it was obviously something she would never ask.
His question surprised her and Kamaria stared at him for a moment with worry. Why was she here? Because he had told her to come. Because she wanted to escape the unforgiving shadow of her dead brother. Because of Ezra. ”Because you wished me to come here.” She said softly. Her dark eyes falling down to his chest where one of her hands would rise to slide over the silky material. ”Do you not desire me any longer, my king?” Worry tinged her voice although likely for a different reason than the king might suspect. Being sent away would tear her away from Ezra, something she didn’t even want to think about.
Maybe she needed to step up her game? Was she boring him? How could she fix it? Obviously she would be lacking the experience of many immortal women who had centuries to learn how to please a king in his bed. But Justus would have known of her race before taking her as his mistress. What reason he might have found in an average human girl like herself she was unsure. But even if this life was at times lonely and bound to end in tragedy, likely her own death. It was better than what she had left behind.
She moved closer to Justus until she brushed against him. Her fingers tentatively reaching up to undo the first button of his pajama top. ”If I have bored you my king you need just tell me what it is you desire.” Her voice dropped a bit lower, and Kamaria leaned closer so that her lips could graze the bared flesh of the kings chest. No. She didn’t wish to be replaced. She didn’t want to lose the only man she had feelings for. She didn’t care if she had beautiful dresses or drawers of jewelry. But she did want to keep living here in the lonely castle full of unfriendly faces.
”Is there something keeping you awake on this night?” She ventured carefully. Wondering if the king needed to get something off his chest even as her lips lingered a mere breath away from it.

Justus wasn't a cruel man , he was just complex. Neither did he seek out to hurt people that it didn't call for. He knew his power was great , he understood his strength. He knew that he was a lot stronger then he had ever really used , because there had never been a need to push it to the limits , because he could easily let this power go to his head and that was a dark place. Letting a power like his consume you , you could get lost and once you get lost like that there was no coming back. No one in the kingdom would call him a unfair king. Neither did he expect to turn into some tyrant over night. The centuries he had been alive he had learned a great deal of balance.
Opening the door , he watched her come into his chambers as graceful as ever. That was another thing that appealed to him when he first laid eyes on her. How graceful she was and how innocent she was. It was rare to come across that kind of innocence to be in his kingdom. Immortals usually just kept their innocence very young and as they got older it disappeared with the things that happen to witness over the centuries they live. "If I was not the King I am Kamaria. Where would you be now ?" , he asked her. Wrapping his arms around her small waist.
She was really something. But his mind was curious to better understand her. He didn't see her as a object , even though everyone at court might think other wise. He did love what they did , he found enjoyment in her but he did find her a curious thing. Justus wanted to pick her brain this night. His eyes resting on her small face. Licking his lips unintentionally. She asked him what he desired and he pushed her away gently. " For you to tell me the truth." , he was very blunt with her.
" I'm usually awake at night." , he told her without hesitation.

Kamaria felt the king’s arm snake around her waist and settled into his touch comfortably. His question made her frown and she looked away as she contemplated her words. All this time she hadn’t given the king much information about herself. Of course he knew the basic things. But did he know she had a fiancé that she hadn’t loved? That she had been ready to marry the man just to get out of her family home? She wasn’t as sweet a girl as he likely thought her and while she hated to tarnish her image in his eyes she found truth falling from her lips like stones.
”If you were not the king you are and had not brought me here…I imagine I would be married to the man I had been betrothed to. Toiling away to try to make ends meet while saddled with a man I didn’t love.”
The king set her back away from him and Kamaria didn’t make a move to close the distance again. Her forehead wrinkling with concern. ”The truth?” She repeated softly and wrapped her arms around herself. Dark eyes moving up to the king’s face. ”The truth is that there is a man here that I care for, that I hope cares for me. That is why I remain here my king.” Listening to the conversation it would be easy to think she was referring to the king and simply too afraid to outright say it. But it was Kamaria’s way of being honest. It was what he wanted.
It wasn’t as if she hated the king. He had given her this life away from the ever judgmental gaze of her parents. Their nights together were always very pleasurable. A twinge of guilt settled into her gut as Ezra’s face flitted through her mind. Would the king be hurt if he knew? She didn’t think he would. She felt like a thing even if he didn’t treat her cruelly. Like a plaything to be discarded whenever he might see fit.
She clutched her arms tighter around herself and while staring up at Justus she spoke again, still keeping that distance between them. ”Is my answer sufficient, Justus?” She ask softly. Taking a risk by using his name.

519 words for @kamaria notes: finally done xD. sorry it took a while.  A PERFECTLY CONSTRUCTED ALIBI
Justus listened as she spoke , really listened to her. He wasn't as harsh as people tried to make him out to be , he was just very firm with his people. He was the king , he didn't have time to show weakness. He didn't have time to breakdown , be emotional or think with emotions. The kingdom would be at risk if he thought emotionally and not logically. "Making ends meet with a husband ? Hmmm , doesn't sound much like a husband to me. Women should never struggle when they have a spouse , you should be taken care of and comfortable. All marriages aren't ones of loves but they all should benefit both parties." , he spoke with a stern voice but gentle at the same time. His people usually didn't wed for love , sometimes it could be the case but many immortals learned to love whomever they were with. Getting married for love alone wasn't something one did , it was careless and at the end of the day could cause problems. Marriages were more like business proposals. What could that person bring to the table , one that you shared. It definitely had to be more then a fork and a napkin. But the way she explained her situation it didn't seem like she was happy about it. Neither did it seem like it was ging to bring her some sort of relief.
He asked for the truth and she spoke about a man that she stayed for , Justus tilted his head back gently. His hazel eyes running over her. " Is it me you speak of?" , he asked her. The tone in his voice was calm but he would be anything but calm if she told him anything but him. She was his , he had brought her to court. Justus was old , forget the way he looked. He didn't age , he was centuries old now and he was no fool. He wasn't sure how upset he would be if she told him anyone else besides himself. Neither did he know how he would really react. He was testing her. Of course it would be better for her to tell the truth , then lie to him. If it was one thing Justus really hated it was a liar.
Kamaria asked if her answer was sufficient and he shook his head. "No. A half truth , is a whole lie. That was what we would say in court. So tell me the truth dearest Kamaria." , he pushed her to answer him. Tucking his hand under his chin , as he sat. One leg crossed over the other.

She felt like a rat in a trap, caught without an escape. Asking questions like these, so pushy..pointed. Did he know something? Was he aware of the time she had spend with his son? Kamaria was well aware of how the king hated liars. But if he didn't know she would be the lamb to a slaughter without reason. She was truly and utterly trapped. Her stomach tightened painfully as his fingers gently tilted her head up to meet his gaze. She felt as if she would be ill and faint all at once. Then it hit her hard, the nausea that had been coming and going the past few days. It slammed into her with enough force to make her wince and jerk to the side before she was utterly and horribly sick. Hopefully avoiding getting any of the vile fluid on the king. She coughed and her eyes filled with tears as her stomach expelled all of the contents it held within.
When the spell finally was over Kamaria wiped her lips and a had across her sweaty face. Her skin unusually pale and her body feeling utterly drained. Her dark eyes hurriedly moved to the king, embarrassment and fear rocketing through her. "My King! I'm so sorry. I didn't- forgive me I haven't felt well. I will get a maid right away." She took several steps back and looked out into the call, catching someone close she called for them to bring a mop and bucket.
She was shaking although if it was from fear or the exertion was unknown. Stepping back inside the room she looked nervously to the king. She couldn't believe she had gotten sick in the kings chambers. Hopefully the king himself was unscathed. She had been feeling rather tired for a few days now but this was the first time she had actually been sick. And of course it was at the worst possible moment. "Please forgive me I will get it cleaned up." Her head dipped and her dark eyes darted to the floor as she waited nervously for the maid to arrive.

Kamaria had to be one of the most innocent in the kingdom. She was human after all , once you have lived for decades and experienced things like the immortals ... that innocence that he was attracted to ... that was the innocence that went away. Immortals don't ever stay to innocent for long , it was very rare for one to be naive or ignorant at his age. She had been a breath of fresh air and he did not share his women with other men. Never. He had brought her to his kingdom to be his mistress. Justus made sure that he fully explained what this was. This for him was not love. He cared for Kamaria , he wanted her to progressive successfully in life and he absoutely though highly of but love that was definitely out of the picture. He stood before her , his head tilted to the side as he wanted for her to answer. The way she was acting put doubt in his mind , as his jaw clenched. She was taking to long to answer and he did not like that. His hazel eyes looked at her firmly.
It was obvious that she had got a wave of sickness , the next thing he knew she was throwing up and he was moving to the side. His eyes never left her though , beckoning a maid to come in to clean it up was a problem. Neither did he think he was disgusting either , he had seen worse. Grinding his teeth together , he listened as she spoke. " You've been feeling like this for a few days ? And you sit." . he motioned her to take a seat as he waited for the maid to come. " They will give you a bath and a change of clothes her. You stay her tonight." ,he said firmly. This was not really up for debate as he started to pace slowly. His hands behind his back , a worried expression coming across his face.
He swallowed past the lump in his throat. He wanted to ask her something but he didn't want to know the answer to it. He didn't want that pressure on Kamaria and neither was he sure she could really handle something like this. "Are you pregnant Kamaria?" , he asked in all seriousness. " Do you think there is a possibility" , he asked her as he stopped pacing turning to face her. Of course there was a possibility that she could be pregnant. He had his way with her often , he hadn't been thinking too much. Not that at the time the king really cared about consequences.

Kamaria obeyed the king and sat down in own of the ornate chairs that decorated the room. She nodded when he repeated her words as a question, her cheeks still flushed red from both being ill and the embarrassment of it. A bath and new clothing sounded wonderful but the thought of staying in the kings chambers, possibly causing even more of a mess worried her. Justus had never been unkind to her. Perhaps that was why she found it so hard to lie to him. She was a plaything, a toy. But she wasn't treated wrongly. Even so she knew that angering the king was not a good idea and if he kept asking questions she wasn't certain how much longer she could evade before the guilt caught up to her. It wasn't a question though and the finality his words carried made her look down at her lap. Her fingers nervously toying with one of her brown curls.
His pacing made her even more nervous but it was the questions that made her feel like she could be sick all over again. It was a thought she had been forcing away for days. It was entirely possible, but what would happen to her if she was? What would happen to the child? She wasn't prepared to face the weight of being a mother and it was terrifying. But also...who was the father? "I-" She started to speak then stopped, her dark eyes turning up to see the king. Would he be angry with her if she was with child? What is she was made to leave the kingdom?....Then she might never see Ezra again. And Ezra....how would he handle news that she might be with child? Would he be angry with her?
"I don't-I was afraid to mention it and I-" Her words were tumbling over one another just like her thoughts and Kamaria pressed the heels of her hands into her eyes to physically hold back the tears. "I don't know how to be a mother..." She said at last. Not looking at the king now. It was true, her mother had never been happy with her. She would never treat a child of her own like that. But she knew so little about being a mother and felt woefully inadequate. "Are you angry with me, my king? I know this isn't...this isn't what someone would want of a mistress."
