Arista sighed deeply. Rainy days were never good for business, no matter how good it felt to be wet again for the mermaid. Only the most dedicated land walking shoppers were out today, as well as a few children splashing around in rain puddles, and these shoppers were more interested in necessities like food and bolts of cloth. Jewelry wasn't on the minds of many of the denizens of the city. However, the mermaid was never one to give up easily, so she simply sat underneath the steady rain, allowing herself to get wet with few repercussions; her skirt covered up her legs and those were tucked underneath the table of her stall, preventing her from gaining too many scales. Patience was a virtue, and Arista intended to wait out the rest of the day to catch a customer.

Michael was sopping wet. His aunt had decided to stay in the markets, convinced she had to sell her wares even in the pouring rain. She had insisted that due to Michael's bruised hand and scuffed knees, he wasn't allowed out of the marketplace by himself. At least for today and tomorrow. He had decided to escape the motherly crutches of his aunt and explore the other stores. He had yet to use his pocket money yet and he planned on spending it on his aunt as it was her birthday in the upcoming month. He didn't think many jewelers or clothing sellers were out today as it had been raining since the morning, however, he spotted a young woman who appeared to be selling jewelry.
He approached the stall slowly, his eyes taking in the wonderful handcrafted necklaces and bracelets. Shells were used in a magnitude of different ways and he almost let his mouth fall open at the prices of them. They were much cheaper than he first expected, but it was still a healthy chunk out of his wallet. He let his eyes travel along the seemingly countless jewelry and he glanced up to smile at the woman. "Nice weather we're having." He joked, taking a hand to wipe away some of the water in his hair.

Arista gave a smile as the young customer approached. She always found it easier to converse with the younger patrons than the older ones; they were nicer, usually. He talked about the weather and she looked up at the dark grey clouds. Then she looked back down at him and smiled. "I think so. I've never minded the rain." She didn't bother telling him why exactly she enjoyed the rain. "So, are you looking for anything in particular?" She was still watching him carefully; even though her jewelry wasn't the most expensive, she had occasionally had young thieves come and steal from her stand.

Michael nodded at her answer, looking through the necklaces and bracelets that she had on display. He quite enjoyed looking for gifts for people. When his aunt had to buy presents, she usually sent Michael out to find something that would suit them. He was always nervous about buying his Aunt a gift, despite all of this. She meant too much to him that he would be so disappointed if he couldn't provide her with something that she would love. He glanced back up the young woman, answering her question honestly, "Not anything in particular but for someone in particular. My aunt's birthday is in another month and we won't be back in Cendra City for a while so I thought now would be a good time to buy her gift."
He sighed softly, "Your jewelry is beautiful but I am unsure of what she would want."
