Kai let out a soft huff of air, head nodding in acknowledgement of Alvina's position. Alpha, then. Intriguing, that she would be the one who came out looking for the small boy. At the same time, perhaps comforting. An Alpha that cared about those within her care. Good. Already she was distracted by the scrapes that Michael had and the boy stuttered out an explanation, turning to show her his bruised and scraped back as well. The stallion snorted at the reminder of his hooves, still splattered with gore and blood. He should have waded through a stream or something.
His head rose some as he heard the rustles in the bushes of the rest of the group, and his eyes sought out those who were there. They were mere shadows in the bushes for now, though as he breathed in he could pick out separate scents. His ears perked forward, listening to the slight noises that came with their presence. Even as he did so, he spoke. -I fear I was too focused upon ensuring I didn't stumble and send him flying. We both missed the ambush the beast had set up. It must have been quite hungry to go after a human upon a horse's back. It will endanger nobody else, though.- He shifted, one hoof lifting slightly as he let a hind leg relax, tail flicking back and forth.
He snorted, and itched his muzzle upon his knee for a brief moment before looking at Alvina. -I trust that you'll get him home safe to where he belongs. - It was spoken without any sort of question to it, merely looking for confirmation that the task he had taken on would not be abandoned.

The she-wolf’s attention lingered on Michael as if to prompt his explanation, and though firm, also had a soft quality. Her dark ears remained pricked as he launched into his explanation. Alvina watched as his eyes darted with anxiety, and it wasn’t long before he stumbled slightly over his words. Lost hunting – then attacked by a cougar. That would certainly do it, particularly for one of his stature. Even in a shifted form, a fox wasn’t a fair match for such a creature, not without having others or even a better, basic grasp of fighting. That would be a point to discuss with Merissa… soon. Roused from her thoughts as he turned to display the damage to his back, her lips twitched. It took restraint to keep them from drawing back to reveal her teeth altogether.
‘You have a few to show for yourself, dear. But we will treat you when you get back. Don’t worry.’ Less rigid, more motherly, her voice came with a gentler tone.
As her gaze shifted, there was a renewed firmness, but also a kind of respectful appreciation for the stallion. Their guest, in that moment as it were – who was glancing around, supplying further explanation as he surveyed the nest of predators who had practically surrounded him. ‘Thank you for assisting.’ His involvement spoke of his character, the action offering a kind of concrete thing upon which to base judgement. It was an easier thing to consider, rather than the pretty words of so many who had stumbled into their territory beforehand. Her tail flicked with consideration at that thought. ‘It seems a fortunate thing that you were in the right place at the right time…’ She began, head tilting slightly with her impending query. She took a few tentative steps, preparing to take the lead and get them on their way. ‘Might you like to join us in taking him back? We can offer you a warm bed and a hot meal for what you’ve done today, if you’ll take it.’

Michael turned back around, nodding silently. He didn't want to admit it, but her familiar soothing tones helped him relax a little. He could smell the rest of his pack now and the unrest in his chest had calmed down. He watched as Kai seemed to be calmly scratching himself, shifted his weight from side to side. Nothing felt comfortable and everything hurt it seemed, so he soon resumed a more straight position. He was quietly saddened that the horse seemed to foist him onto his pack. He knew that Kai was only helping out of the kindness of his heart, but Michael had kinda wanted to repay him in some way. All that the stallion had gotten for helping him was hositility and attacks from predators.
He stiffened as he heard his alpha begin to start a sentence that almost accusitory but he breathed a little easier as he heard the rest of the sentence. Alvina was offering Kai dinner and a place to sleep. It wasn't a lot for saving Michael's life, but it was more than he expected his pack leader to offer. His eyes went wide as saucers and he turned to the stallion, "Aunt Marissa would love to have you over! We have a spare room that you could borrow and I'm sure she wouldn't mind cooking you breakfast too since...you know...you saved my life." he tried his hardest not to gush but it all came out at once. He felt indebted to the stranger and he wanted to provide commodities that he did not previously have.
He then shuffled a little further away, running a hand through his hair as he felt awkward. "Not that you have to take up the offer." Michael glanced side to side, suddenly feeling quite embarrassed. There was no reason to be so excited for someone to rest in his house for the night. He dropped the hand, his hair suitably ruffled to match his emotions and scratched body. He then focused his intensely blue eyes on Alvina, trying to force the question passed his lips. He felt ashamed that he didn't know the answer to the question he was about to ask, "A- Alvina...will I be able to shift without hurting myself? It's really cold."

Kai made a soft noise, his ears flicking and his expression turning into something that could be called a smile, as Alvina offered him a place for the night, and then the boy fairly gushed about how delighted his aunt would be to have him visit. He bumped Michael's arm gently in a silent sort of thanks before nodding to Alvina. "If I am welcome, then I would enjoy a warm place for the night, and food. I will accompany you."[/i] He took in a deep breath, and then let it out, all four hooves becoming solid upon the ground again. He was about to ask if Michael wanted to ride again when the boy asked Alvina if he could shift, and the werehorse covered his snort by sneezing off to one side, loudly.
Of course the boy could change, so long as he could maintain the focus. It seemed like a silly question to the horse. But perhaps it wasn't so easy for the boy as it had always been for him. One could never know.

Alvina was pleased to see some life surge into the boy with the excitement her offer brought him. He was paler than she'd have cared for, and with the heavy scent of blood still clinging to the air, she was already preparing to send word to her sentries to get the needed materials ready to treat the boy. Her crimson gaze lingered intensely on the stallion as she awaited his reply, her head finally bowing as his words game forward. 'Welcome to Blood Rose, Kai. We will show you our best hospitality.'
She was preparing to turn, to accompany Michael on their way back, when the boy's words caught her ears as leaves tremoring in the breeze. Her ears flicked forward toward him, nose twitching as she breathed in the scent of the blood that still tinged the air. 'You will be fine. It might be difficult to concentrate enough to do it, but it might also help your injury.'
Her voice was gentle again. 'Do try, then we will go eat and clean you up.'

Michael gazed up at the horse as Kai bumped his arm, his eyes shining with admiration. He was glad that the werehorse would be able to join him and his aunt for he night. He flickered his eyes towards the wolf as she welcomed him into the pack. His entire body hurt but there was joy that he had returned home to his pack and family. He smiled softly, ignoring the sharp pangs in his back and chest He glanced at the werehorse suspiciously as he sneezed, a small frown forming on his lips. Was Kai getting sick or was he laughing at Michael? Either answer to that question would upset him so he quickly turned his attention to his alpha as she instructed him that he could transform.
He nodded and closed his eyes for good measure. He visualised his fox form, trying desperately to ignore any pain in his body before he sunk to the floor, his body morphing into it's canid shape. He blinked a few times, his vision shifting as he came to grips with the fact he was seeing very differently. Once he had righted himself, he blinked up at the wolf a few times as if to see what she wanted him to do next. He was very much ready to go home and head to bed.
