The Battle Royale had been a fiasco. The whole human kingdom was in shock at the loss of their king, and were preparing to transfer to their new king, Corvo. While Osric knew his friend would eventually ascend to the throne, he hadn't been expecting it to be so soon. The king, after all, had been in such good health. He might have had ten or fifteen more years in his reign before Corvo had to take over, if he hadn't been murdered. Osric wished he could have done something, protect the king better, and the princess. But he had been preparing to be in the next bout and hadn't been in the box with the royal family.
It was over now, anyway. They had returned to the castle, and the knight had resumed his training in order to prepare for whatever may come next. He was in the training yard of the castle now, hacking away at a practice dummy. It was nothing like a real enemy, though. Frustrated, and feeling down, he sheathed his sword and stepped away from the dummy and over to the bucket of fresh water for drinking. It was no use practicing with an enemy that stood still.

Corvo Dufour... Corov moved with a strong strides across the castle's training yard, sword in hand and his black dog in tow. He wore a dull expression on his face and his eyes had lost what little spark of laughter they held. He was clad in leather armor with a breatplate covering his heart front and back, a cape donned with wolfskin and fur to keep the cold at bay. His black curls were pulled back in a low bun. When one's mind is in a bad place bad decesions were waiting to happen. Most people dealt with them in a sensible manner without causing a scene and kept their troubles close to them. Corvo was good at keeping his troubles close, but lately all he seemed to see was pity, questions and doubt.
He was tired of it. He knew, he needed to pick himself up and find an outlet for all this pent up anger and sorrow, so when he had seen Osric hacking away at a dummy he had made his way here. Even though he favoured having Osric as a sparring partner, anyone in the yard could have helped him out with training and giving him a feeling of not wasting his time...
He unbuckled his swordbelt and exchanged that and his sword for a wooden sword. He undid the buckles keeping his cape in place and looked to Osric.
"Isn't your technique is too good to waste on a dummy, Osric?"
He looked at his old friend who stood over at the water bucket. They had practically grown up together. They had gone through their training together, Orsic had been at his side for so long and the human hoped he would be there through whatever may come in the future. The heir to humanity had a bad feeling about the future...

Osric, taking a sip from the dipper in the bucket, looked up as he saw Corvo approaching. Their relationship had never been a formal one, but he felt the need to do something resembling respect, for whoever might be looking on and take his casualness with the prince the wrong way. He dipped his head. "Corvo, good afternoon," he said carefully, unsure of how the prince was going to act. He knew that he must have been devastated at his father's death, but he suspected that the prince, who was so proud and independent, didn't want pity, least of all from one of his good friends.
Osric gave a rueful grin as he commented on his practicing. "Well, yes, I suppose so. But he is a more worthy opponent than some of these louts hereabout," he said, giving a teasing smile to another, younger knight nearby. The knight, in turn, unbuckled his own sword belt and grabbed a practice sword instead, settling into a defensive position in front of the prince. "So, you want to fight, do you?"
