He said they did many things, tsking her for forgetting. Larkin frowned and her cheeks burned red with embarrassment. "I am sorry...I-I'm sure it was-you were-I hope we didn't hurt the baby..." She fumbled for words quietly, to think that she could have been with someone and not even remember it was startling. She had only been with Felix and she remembered every moment of those times. Larkin fiddled with the blanket until he offered her a glass of water, pale fingers reaching out to take the glass and bring it to her lips for a long drink.
He held out his hand and Larkin switched the glass over so that she could give him her nearest one. She was obviously a little concerned as she slipped his hand into his although a small smile lingered on her lips. His lips pressed politely against her flesh before she pulled it back to her chest. It felt odd to be treated like this after the last few months of hiding and running. "The first?" She repeated with a slight tilt of her head. "There are others with the same name as you?" She took the book and laid it across her legs, letting the bottom of the glass sit softly atop it. "Larkin Silvaris I am also the first, that I know of at least."
He rose from his seat while speaking of the book, she was quick to reply. "You could borrow it? Then you could finish it." The clothing offered to her made her sigh with relief and after sitting the book and glass down she twisted around on the bed so that her back would be to him. She slipped on the undershirt and then the blouse. They hung a little loose but it was something she was accustomed too. Often even clothing that would fit a woman of her slender build would be too roomy in the front because she wasn't boasting the most womanly of curves.
Once she was clothed again from the waist up she scooted to the edge of the bed. Blue eyes moving to Khaalius as she spoke. "Where are we? I know you said this is your home but, where is that?"
She was wondering now if she was going to have a very long walk or if perhaps his home was near one of the cities. Suddenly her stomach growled loudly, almost theatrical in its sound. Larkin flushed a bright red and looked down at her knees, unwilling to acknowlege that the sound had came from her.

Khaal couldn't help smiling at the girl and the way she fumbled through her words. She seemed so innocent, yet at the same time tougher than he had expected. The woman had yet to even mention the bloodbath she had witnessed. Perhaps in her horror, she had completely forgotten about it, which was all the more peculiar to him.
The ancient man gave her a nod as she took the clothes, turning his back to her to add to the privacy she needed. Some moments later, he heard her shift upon the bed, and he turned just in time for more of her questions. The immortal looked her over critically, as though gauging whether the clothes fit her well enough. He paused for a moment, giving the girl a raised eyebrow, the slightest hint of disapproval at her numerous questions present in his eyes.
Not that it actually bothered him.
"Well, first things first." Khaal said, taking a seat and steepling his hands together. "Insistent as your were, you shouldn't worry too much about what we did. I was gentle. Besides, such activities cannot hurt the babe." He said with a slow nod. It was the truth, as far as he knew it, having been something of a midwife to many of his descendants. A slight smile tugged at him at the memories of his progeny seeking his counsel, back when him being a guardian actually meant something.
The fond memories slipped away, back into the darkest corners of his mind, and the smile turned a touch less genuine.
"And yes, I am Khaalius the first. A pleasure to meet you, Larkin the first. Many of my family were named after me, but sadly they are no longer around. A real shame, that." He said, and sighed, expression growing more pensive before he remembered her offering him the book.
"Ah, and as for your little book. I would love the opportunity to finish it. I'll make sure to return it in decent condition." The man went on with a nod, though he didn't make a move for the novel, patiently waiting for her to hand it over if she wanted to. In the meantime, he swept his arm towards the nearby window, which showed numerous trees just outside it, the ground here and there peppered with snow where it could actually make it past the canopy.
"We are in a fairly rural part of the world, somewhat close to Krizala. Thus, make sure you're dressed warmly. There are more clothes in the wardrobe should you need them, and if you start feeling cold-"
A distinct gurgling sound interrupted him, surprisingly loud for such a petite thing before him. Khaal found himself chuckling lightly, momentarily moving to get the silver, intricately designed tray of food he had brought her. "Well well. I hate to say it, my dear, but it seems to me you're not taking such a great care of yourself... Or the baby for that matter..." The immortal hummed, pushing the tray into her lap, meatpie, plate and silverware waiting for her upon it.
"Eat up." Khaal said, soft voice growing a touch firm and chiding. "You cannot enact your plans for your future on an empty stomach." He gave that a pause just to let it sink in, peering at her with a serious expression. "You... do have plans, don't you?"

Larkin blushed furiously as he spoke, her blue eyes darting downward as if she couldn't keep eye contact. "I-I was insistent? I'm sorry if I bothered you. I had only been with Felix before this and he-" As had been happening lately just the utterance of his name made her lose her words. Her throat closing tightly around them, fingers worriedly working at the blanket again. "I can't not worry." She said softly. "I have a way of messing everything up...but I usually at least remember doing it. I can only remember the marketplace...the fight. But then it just goes dark..." Thankfully the waving arm had been wiped from her memory.
She handed back over the book. Looking a little weighed down with all the worries plaguing her. He was moving then and sat a tray on her lap. Larkin looked up at him quizzically before back down at the food. She took up the fork and poked at the pie. Carefully pulling back the crust to see what was inside. Her stomach lurched at the site of cooked meat sitting among the juice and spices. So carefully she worked off a small bite of crush and only crust. "I am trying." She said quietly in response to his chiding words.
She placed the small bite in her mouth at his urging. Blue eyes turning to see him when he spoke of plans. Something she was apparently supposed to have. "I...I didn't know I needed plans." She reasoned softly. She worked her fork around the pie to pull another bite free and tucked her long pale hair behind one of her pointed ears to keep it out of her food before she spoke again. "What is your plan? Maybe having an example will help me make my own."
A few moments passed, punctuated by the occasional click of her fork touching the plate as she continued to pluck at the pie crust. "Have you had babies before?" She asked quietly, obviously a little timid with the subject matter. She was terrified of messing everything up but without Felix around she felt like a ship lost in the night. And being told he didn't want her had just driven that thought home. She wasn't good enough. Not for him. Not to be a mother. She was a failure by most measures. Larkin cleared her throat as the depressing thoughts closed in on her. Her pregnancy already making her an emotional wreck and losing what shreds of control she had.
"I haven't." The words came out sad, nearly choked. "This was...I didn't expect it. I've been trying. I just....he didn't want me, you see? It was going so well then he just appeared and he smelled like someone else. Then he said he didn't want me..." Her fork clattered against the plate and Larkin turned away from him to try to hide the tears welling in her eyes. Her hands that held the tray trembled and her stomach clenched painfully. "I'm sorry."

Khaal settled back into his chair, relaxed as ever as he watched the poor little woman before him. Apparently, Felix was the father, and there was heartbreak involved judging by the way she choked at his name. She bumbled about not remembering things, about trying and not knowing she had to have a plan, showing countless insecurities faster than Khaal could keep track of them. At some point, she handed him her book back, and he nodded gently, setting it aside for the time being.
The immortal contemplated his words for a moment, steepling his hands as he sighed. "Yes," He said gently. "...you seemed frightened and lonely, and you wanted to stay with me. One thing led to another, and I'd rather not go into any further detail than that, my dear. Hopefully your memory will return to you soon. It seems you've been through quite a lot lately." The man spoke, tone soft and sympathetic to her plight.
"And yes, I've had children before. And grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Many of them grew up here, in this very home." Khaal paused for a moment, having to battle down a bit of his own past that threatened to bubble up. "I'm an immortal, Larkin. I have a lot of experience with raising children. As far as plans go, I would advise you to let your child stay here, if you yourself don't want to. At least until you can put your life back together."
Perhaps it was something he said, or simply the weight of her own problems crushing her, but the woman began to choke on her words even more, until she turned away to hide her tears. Instantly, Khaal made his way to sit at her side upon the bed, letting out a soft, hushing sound. "Easy, dear. You're doing the best you can." He said softly, plucking a pristine clean handkerchief from a pocket and moving to dab at her crying eyes gently. "Being pregnant is not an easy thing to bear. But I'm here, and I will help you however I can." The man assured her, wrapping a gentle arm around her as he planted a kiss upon her forehead. "You're not alone in this. Not anymore." He offered her the cloth, in case she needed it further.
Something stirred within the ancient man when she started crying. An emotion he couldn't quite recognize, and it made him frown softly. Sympathy for others was something he had buried a long time ago, and he had to in order to survive and to remain as sane as he was. One can handle doing horrid things against their will only for so long, before learning to enjoy it.
A moment later though, he decided this fleeting feeling wasn't important, and focused once more on fishing for more information. "You said that he smelled like someone else." Khaal said slowly, tilting his head at the petite woman. "Is that – the sense, an ability you have?" He paused then, and noticed the state of the meatpie that he'd given her. Only the crust had been eaten, meat meticulously avoided. That got a raised, inquisitive eyebrow from the immortal.
"Is the food not agreeing with you, my dear? Perhaps there's something in the pantry that might suit you better." Khaal said, for once simply curious instead of chiding the girl.

An immortal...it made sense then that he would be so wise and knowledgeable. Everything he said had an air of authority to it, as if daring for his words to be questioned. "That is a lot of people. Where are they now?" He ventured on to say she should allow the child to remain, even without her. "I..." She hesitated. Not really knowing how to respond. She felt inadequate but it was also hard for her to just accept giving her child away. It felt...not exactly like it was wrong, but like it shouldn't happen. Like something bad would happen if she did. "I don't know." She said at last and bit down on her lip hard.
Her sorrow had drawn Khaalius closer. Larkin could feel the soft dip as he sat beside her. She sniffled but tried in vain to hide the fact that she was crying from him. Even when he was wiping away her tears. She leaned back against him, relishing the reassuring contact. She was someone who thrived on physical contact, even something as small as holding hands. "Thank you, Khaalius. For taking care of me and being so nice. I'm lucky I ran into someone like you."
Larkin looked at him with a small frown at the mention of Felix and the woman he had smelled of. She shook her head slowly. A tinge of worry making her brow crease. Didn't he know she was a hybrid? She must not have mentioned it. Hopefully, it didn't change anything. Some of the nicest people would turn against her when they discovered her blood wasn't pure. It was a shame in her mind that someone would put so much stock in something that couldn't be changed.
"No I'm...I'm a hybrid. I can smell things a little better because of my rabbit side. My only ability is paper magic." She chewed on her lip as worry coiled in her stomach like a snake. "Do you hate me now? My kind isn't really-" Her words broke away. After a moment she continued. "-we aren't well liked."
He mentioned the food and Larkin hurried to shake her head. "No! I mean, I don't really eat meat unless I have to. I cant stomach it well....I guess where I'm a rabbit. But this is fine! I promise!" She quickly smiled despite her bright blue tear filled eyes. It made a strange broken look on her youthful face that didn't sit quite right. "Why don't we talk about you some? If you are immortal and old then you must have lots of stories about your life to share. Right?" She paused a beat before continuing. "Why do you live here alone if you have so much family out there? Don't you get lonely?"

She was so adorable, so full of questions and concerns. Once upon a time, he would've nurtured her mind and spirit, to watch her soar and live a full life. But that was before his mind had been twisted. Now, what he wanted was to toy with the girl for his own amusement, bending her reality and watch her slowly but surely go mad. And yet still, that strange feeling nagged at him, like an urchin at his door pleading to be let in. He watched Larkin as she spoke, bombarding him with questions as she all but clung to him.
"I'm afraid my family are long gone, most of them at least. The war hasn't been kind to them." He explained softly, tone tainted with sorrow as though it pained him to speak of it. "The few that are left have scattered over the world and they're proving... difficult to find." The man admitted with a tsk.
"Nevertheless, that doesn't mean your child shouldn't stay here. This is a good, safe home, Larkin." He assured her, gingerly tucking one lock of her hair behind her ear as he spoke. "You don't have to thank me, my dear. Just trust me that I know what's best. I am just trying to help you."
When she told him of her hybrid nature, suddenly worried whether he hated her or not, the ancient man couldn't help laughing, his voice melodious with amusement. "My dear, sweet Larkin. I could never hate you. You are far too adorable for that." He pulled her into a tight, one-armed hug to emphasize it, and stayed that way in silence for a long moment before speaking again.
"So, am I correct to presume you're part wererabbit, part.... mage?" Khaal asked softly, blue eyes studying her face. "I could find someone to tutor you, if you'd like. Or I can do so myself." He offered.
Almost as expected, when he spoke of the food the petite woman was quick to defend it and assure him it was all good. It nearly got another chuckle out of the immortal, but he curbed his amusement and merely smiled at her instead. "Well, that's a shame. I know of this one great place I could take you to. Best vegetable soup and salads I've tasted in a century." The man said, a touch of a teasing smirk appearing on his face. He left it at that though, focusing on the barrage of questions she leveled at him.
Khaal hummed thoughtfully, giving the girl a nod as she turned the conversation to talking about him. "I do indeed have many stories to share, though with my age I've probably forgotten quite a few." The ancient man jested with a smile. "This... is my family's home, my dear. My kin may be gone, but this place still remains, and is tucked away from the cacophony of civilization. Enough to give me some semblance of peace. And, well... when I get lonely, I simply go traveling and meeting new people. Such as yourself."

He said his family was gone, many victims of the war and Larkin nodded knowingly with a frown. "I am sorry, my brother is all I have left. My parents did not survive the war. It seems like everyone lost someone to it." Larkin didn't answer when he told her what would be best for the babe. She just stared down at the food she had been given in thoughtful silence. Thankfully he took her hybridism well and even pulled her into a hug. Larkin, being the person she was. Relished the affection and practically scooted into his lap when he held her close. Her little bum creeping onto his lap as she balanced the food and drink on the tray he had given her.
She tilted her head when he asked of her biology. "I've elven and werebeast." She supplied with a sheepish smile. Her fingers rose to follow the same trail his hand when he pushed her hair behind her ear. Delicate fingers slipping over the point at the top of the curl of her ear. It wasn't an extreme point, but it was there none the less. "Lessons?" She asked curiously. Always eager to learn and absorb more information. "What is it that you could teach me?" Her words were not meant as rude, but curious. Although they could have been interpreted as such. "My ability isn't really the type that gets stronger."
She bit down on her lip when he mentioned a place that had two foods that sounded simply delicious. But she wasn't going to ask to go there. No...this was plenty. She wouldn't ask a perfect stranger to go through so much effort for her. Even if it seemed that they were more familiar than she had thought. "I am alright. But..do you have any strawberry tea?" It was easily her favorite drink. One that she had often pestered Felix about when she lived back in the little cabin.
His reasoning for staying in the home sounded rather sad to her. Larkin carefully reached over and sat the tray on the bed and scooted further into his lap, both her legs sitting to the side given that she was wearing a skirt that would work its way upward very quickly. "I am sorry you were lonely." The movement was tentative, her fingers just brushing over his cheek. She leaned forward slowly, the movement tentative and hesitant. Her lips would just briefly brush against his own before she sat back again. "I hope I helped with that, at least a little. If you ever get lonely in the future you can come find me too. I mean...that is if you wanted." She smiled and let her shoulder rest against his chest, her lithe body curled contentedly in a stranger's embrace. "I can always use another friend...and it sounds like you could too."
Her fingers reached out to play across his arm, making small designs and patterns over his sleeve. "Eventually I will go back to Aelfmenn, to live with my brother. Just tell someone you are looking for the Silvaris house." She gave him a friendly smile but grew a little more animated suddenly. "Oh! And that means you could see my library! I have lots of books you would be welcome to borrow whenever you wanted!"

Larkin was right that many have lost people in the war. It stretched on so much, that even folks of long-lasting races such as his own suffered loss. But little did she know that war wasn't what got his kin, for the most part. He was. Khaal hunted them down mercilessly until there were none that he could find. So when the petite woman told him of her own loss, he didn't feel much of anything. Family meant very little to him, ever since the lot tried to tear his mind apart. Successfully, he might add, though he didn't dislike the madness.
The woman didn't speak as he encouraged her to keep the child here, and kept silent until he asked about her hybrid nature. Slightly surprising, the woman scooted even closer to him, creeping into his lap while she balanced the tray. Khaal blinked at her complete lack of personal boundaries(not that he knew how to respect those either), but didn't object to it, one hand moving to rest on her thigh to help her settle in. To say that her squirming did nothing for the ancient man would be a lie, but he had expert control over himself, for the time being at least.
"Well, since you're half elf, that means your magic is elemental." The man gave her a knowing nod. "Most books are made with parchment and leather, perhaps paper as well, which suggests some fairly interesting ways your ability could grow. If I had to guess, you have affinity towards nature, and perhaps with time and effort, you could learn to manipulate plantlife and animals as well." The man said, pursing his lips lightly as he held Larkin close, wrapping an arm around her. "With your heritage, you likely have all the time in the world to develop your abilities, so settling for what you have now is a fairly silly thing to do, don't you think?... Now, where I would start is testing out different types of books and paper, and seeing if and how they affect your abilities."
As he pondered some more on how to approach training the lithe hybrid, she asked him whether he had any strawberry tea, a fairly difficult thing to find in the encroaching winter. But while one half of the world was in the cold, the other was surely to experience spring and summer at this time. Surely, if not that, dried strawberry could be found more easily. Entertained by the unexpected challenge set before him, the man chuckled at her request. "I'm afraid I don't have that on hand, but I am certain that the two of us can find some, if you're willing to go on an adventure with me." The ancient man smirked, a bit of mischief in his eyes.
He learned to expect a lot of things from the shy woman. Quirky, odd little things, but he hadn't expected her gentle touch and tentative kiss, judging her far too shy for that sort of forwardness. The man blinked at her, blue eyes studying her as she settled back down, curling up against him in complete trust. It made him sigh lightly, working not-entirely-fake sadness into his expression, though he kept the feeling well at bay. "Thank you, Larkin. I wish I had more friends indeed, so I'll have you if you'll have me." The man said, smiling down at her.
The woman went on to tell him about her very vague plans of going back to live with her brother, half-inviting the immortal to visit. The man hummed in agreement, but didn't get to say anything as she suddenly bubbled with energy, speaking of her library and books. She was quite a bookworm indeed, and her enthusiasm summoned a chuckle from the ancient man.
"I have a library as well." The man said with a teasing smirk. "So perhaps we could swap books. Mine probably need a bit of dusting though, I'm afraid." He said, a bit of mock-embarrassment crossing his face. He gave it an easy laugh a moment later, and then remembered her hesitant kiss earlier.
Letting the silence grow between them, he eyed the woman for a moment, as though debating how to approach a difficult subject. "Larkin... is anything from last night coming back to you, my dear?" He asked, a gentle hand moving to cradle her chin as he looked into her big eyes. Knowing already that her response would be a negative one, he didn't give her much time to answer before he moved in and returned her kiss, except less hesitant and lasting longer, letting his lips brush and linger against hers until she decided to move away on her own accord.
"Anything?" Khaal asked softly, blue eyes studying her in a worried manner.

He spoke of her abilities, of the potential it could have and Larkin listened with interest. "I usually just use it to get books from high shelves." She nearly whispered. Feeling that somehow he would be disappointed that she hadn't exercised it more. She didn't like disappointing people. Even strangers. But she was quickly growing to consider Khaal a friend of hers. He was kind and wise. Patient despite her naivety. He was somewhat in Felix in that way. Felix...he has always been so patient with her even when she was horribly confused about this or that. The memory of Felix sent a streak of pain straight to her heart that made her blue eyes close for a moment as she weathered the blow. "It would be nice to learn more." She said after a long pause.
He said he didn't have any of the tea she so coveted and Larkin quickly nodded but then shook her head at the mention of an adventure. "I-its ok. I wouldn't ask that of you." She reasoned with a small smile. She didn't want to put him out any more than she had already. And according to Khaal she had practically thrown herself at him the night before. Although the idea of a bit of adventure was intriguing.
He had said he would be her friend and the little hybrid smiled, obviously thrilled. She wriggled against him contentedly. Her hands free since she had sat the tray and her drink off to the side she let her fingers toy with the fabric of his shirt. A bit of a habit of hers. Something she had probably annoyed Felix with time and time again. "We should!" She chirped. "Dust doesn't hurt anything, it just means it will be new again when you read it."
The previous night was mentioned again, his voice sounding almost concerned. Larkin bit her lip and started to shake her head 'no' until his fingers caught her chin. She looked up at him until his lips pressed against hers, a movement that made her eyes close and her little body lean into his touch. It wasn't like with Felix. She didn't feel that fire in her veins from being with someone she loved so deeply. But it was pleasant none the less, a connection that a being like the hybrid desired. She thrived on contact whether it be of the more sexual nature or something much less carnal.
But something felt...wrong. Like she was doing something wrong by enjoying the kiss. As if she were cheating on Felix. But she wasn't...right? He had been the one who returned smelling of someone else. The one who wanted her gone. So why was she the one who had to carry the guilt? Her lips moved against his own, her fingers curling into the fabric of his shirt to hold him close. But there was a hesitance to her movements as if she was waiting to be reprimanded or just for something horrible to happen. Her kiss had been light, like one might give a friend. This one though was deeper and left her toes tingling. This one made her think of no so innocent things.
Slowly she broke away from the kiss by increments, her cheeks were burning and her body felt warm. His question made her blue eyes open. Rolling her lips in between her teeth she shook her head ever so slightly. "No...I am sorry." She would place a soft kiss against his neck before curling against his chest, pulling her knees up onto his lap in the process. "Are you upset with me? I don't know why I cant remember it..."
