♚ She was grateful that he didn’t make a comment about her confusion when it came to hunger. Rather just suggesting that she try and see. She stared at him a moment then nodded. A small smile on her lips as she turned her gaze to the table before her. Something sweet. Lux couldn’t recall what she liked and didn’t like very well. But a sweet drink sounded nice.
He sat down at the table as well, pouring different drinks into the two glasses. Lux had taken the one that was her own and sipped it. Her nose wrinkling immediately. At the toast she held her glass out and looked a little unsure, but he fumbled for words and it made her smile. She lifted the glass a little higher. ”To us.” He said something then, a little phrase that made her pause before she mimicked his movement and took a drink. Again her nose wrinkled and she cleared her throat before sitting it on the table. Maybe she just needed a little time to get accustomed to something other than water.
”Yes, compared to humans.” She clarified. The way he spoke made her wonder how long it had been since he was around another of his own kind. How could he not know the speed they healed? Was he raised away from other dragons? She had so many questions but they all felt rude to ask. ”I see.” She said quietly. She fiddled with her glass, running her finger around the rim as a question rose on her lips that didn’t seem too intrusive. ”How long has it been since you were in that form?” A slight tilt of her head. ”Do you avoid it out of fear? I..I don’t mean any offense by that. But I think everyone knows how viciously your people were hunted.”
She had taken a shot at a joke then but didn’t expect it to be twisted back around to her. “Would it impress you if I bragged about my scars?” She stared at him with a confused expression. She didn’t know how to take it. Not that she was offended but rather if it was meant as a joke, perhaps asking to see how another woman might take it, or if it was an actual question posed to her. She looked down at her drink then as she tried to figure out just what to say. Surely it wasn’t meant the way someone would normally assume. Lux was…she was aware that what she was now would not be appealing. She was broken, used, and jaded. She had already frustrated him a few times and she had only been in his presence for a few short hours. ”…I don’t see why you would want to impress me.” She said eventually, the words obviously a bit of a struggle for her.
He spoke again about scars but this time his words were not so lighthearted. She watched him, holding her breath although she wasn’t aware of it. When she was certain he was done speaking she replied. ”Is that how you see yours?” She reached out to take another sip of the drink. Finding that it tasted a little less overwhelming now than before. ”….I see them as constant reminders of my pain. If I could make them disappear I would…these are not memories I want. But I am stuck with them and all the questions they will bring. The embarrassment and shame of being looked at with pity. It is…hard. To see them in any positive light. At least right now.” The future could hold new things, experiences, feelings. She might not feel so harshly about them in a few years time.
He asked of her time there, something he had avoided for the most part. She hesitated before answering. Bringing the drink to her lips and taking another swallow that warmed her stomach. ”There were others. Everyone had different uses based on what they could or couldn’t do. They…always died, eventually.” Her hands clutched around the glass until her knuckles turned white. ”….that’s the same as you. Isn’t it? You watched everyone around you disappear as well.” Or so she gathered from his vague story.
