Eitri’s head raised as Warin woke, watching the man with interest. He rose to his feet, forked tongue flicking out to taste the air as the man barely kept himself from pure panic. As cool steel and solid hinges greeted Warin’s fingers, the canine stalked toward Warin, his head low and his movements a sinuous. As he came up to the cage, his tongue flicked out again, tasting the air, and a hissing whine came from him. Without intending to, Warin had showed a weakness that was far too much for the animal to resist. His fear turned him prey, and Eitri was starting to get hungry. Prey meant food. Though, surely Warin was large prey… The canine let out that hissing whine again, the sound somehow more dangerous than distressed. Saliva collected and drool began to drip from his jaws as he stalked around the cage. Venom filled his fangs as he “hunted” around the cage, looking for a way in.

Shimmer’s initial experiments and tests with the vial of blood she had taken from Warin had been promising. It left the mage in a good mood. Her concoction of herbs and magic might actually help speed up the changing process, if it did the same thing to his body as it did to the blood. Carefully, she finished making a note in her large tome, a book of studies and notes, a book that most of her colleagues would probably be happy to burn. Once finished, she took a vial that was distinctly two colors of red and set it aside. The bloods refused to mix. She would have to fiddle with it and make it work later.
For now, it was time to check upon her unwitting test subject. With the test of her change-potion being promising, she wanted to test it upon a living creature. Unfortunately, for Warin, he was her subject. Her good mood had her smiling as she left her workroom, vial in hand, with Suma faithfully at her heels. On her way to the dungeon, she picked up some bread and cheese, along with a skin of water. Perhaps a bit of kindness would help pave the way, though she was sure she had set herself rather far back by abducting the man.
But knowledge did not pave the way upon this route. She had to clear it herself, and that meant that some would have to make sacrifices. Hopefully, not her. She was already risking life and limb, because in the end, it would be her own body being shifted.
As she reached the darker halls, she summoned a small ball of magelight. Suma began to get restless, tongue flicking out as they approached the prison that held Warin. By the time she stepped into the doorway, Suma was stalking forward as if hunting, and her eyes looked over the room. Warin was awake. Quicker than expected but that was no real surprise. As it was she had dosed him heavier than she would have a normal human. Eitri stalked around his cage, hunting for a way in, and Shimmer frowned, that would not do.
She snapped two commands in a guttural language, sending both canines sulking to the side. They wove around each other as they moved to the left of her, and she approached the cage with the arrogant confidence that only a mixture of youth and power combined could support. ”I trust that you didn’t allow Eitri to bite you, Warin. That would be… unfortunate.”
