keep words away from my mouth // nothing i say now // will help Renoth crossed his arms and leaned against the wall. He'd been sent by his father to sell some of their crop at the market. Spinach, mostly, since the winter was only just beginning to come to an end. He doubted anyone would want to buy spinach, so he'd brought along some seeds in the hopes that someone would want to start a garden of their own. He had flower seeds and vegetable and fruit seeds, things he knew well and could give instructions on when to plant and how much to water. These were the last things on his mind; the air was cold, so he was cold. Farmer's clothes were scratchy and even though they were wool, he still felt the chill. He'd untied his hair long ago to protect his ears. The raven locks curled around his youthful face and frizzed up with the humidity in the air.
He'd offer a smile to anyone who looked his way, even if the smile didn't reach his eyes. Occasionally he would stare off into space, wishing he could go home already. But he wasn't to return until after dark. At least there'd be a fire when he returned. Finally someone came along and bought a pouch of seeds and some spinach, probably because he felt sorry for Renoth. The distraction was welcome as he counted the coin and interacted with someone. Soon enough, though, he was back to standing around, waiting.TAG: @open | WORDS: #241 | NOTES: ...

Ah it was good to be back in Cendra. Well, good and bad. Good to see old friends, but bad to continuously have to say no to invitations for a robbery or a con. Yes yes, I'm sure it would be fun, no I'm still not interested, hugs and kisses all around.
Karan scampered through the streets. She was doing well lately, despite her fairly low profit occupation, and was going to show her fond feelings for her old friends by doing something honest for them that they would appreciate. No one could turn down a well made stew after all, even if all the ingredients were bought and not stolen. It was her money after all, she would use it as she pleased! Besides, she was doing it for the youngsters who always looked scrawny in the winter.
Singing a lively tune to herself she skipped down the street, her pack filled with food items pressed against her equipment. Now and then she wondered to herself if she would have done better to buy herself a winter cloak or coat, but, meh, food for the people she considered family was more her speed. Besides, winter was nearly over, she had survived this long, albeit often in extreme discomfort, she could manage the next month.
Pausing mid skip, she back pedaled a few paces to get a better look at the somewhat forlorn figure leaning against a wall, some produce about him.
"You look like you could use a smile, some cheering up, one might say," she commented, head tilted to one side, her fingers pointing to her smiling face, "And I could use some vegetables. Shall we exchange money for goods, and have us some conversation to brighten this otherwise dreary day?"
Gods knew she could use some conversation with a normal law abiding citizen for a change of pace from the gang.

keep words away from my mouth // nothing i say now // will help The skipping girl in front of the stall certainly seemed to brighten the day, if only a little. He cracked a smile and pushed off from the wall. "Yes, I suppose I could use a smile. What sort of produce are you looking for?" He leaned forward on the stall. The pickings were slim and he knew it, but he didn't bother pointing out the obvious.
No, he took the time to look her over instead. Finally, someone younger than him. Reddish hair and a generally cheery appearance. He smiled again, almost genuinely. Apparently she had a better job than he did. Why else would she be in such a damned good mood?

Positive reaction! One small victory already! Yes!
She tried to think of something clever to bounce of the question, but everything that zipped through her brain did not quite cut it. so Karan went with being straight forward.
"Mostly anything good in a stew," she said with a smile, trotting over to get a closer look, "but I can improvise like no-man's business, so whatever you got, I'm sure I can turn into something appropriate. Mm, vegetables!" she finished, sounding as if such things were the most exciting things in the world, and at the moment, with her head full of recipes, ingredients, and the thought of the gang enjoying her impressive cooking(if she did say so herself!), they were very exciting indeed.

keep words away from my mouth // nothing i say now // will help Renoth bit his lip and offered an apologetic smirk. "Well, I have, er, spinach. Not much else, I'm afraid, with this winter." He paused to think about how his mother might improvise a meal out of what he had for sale. "Though I think you might be able to boil it. Could be something like boiled cabbage." He shrugged. "My mother does all the cooking. I'm useless in a kitchen."TAG: Karan Wanderer | WORDS: ### | NOTES: I'm sorry it's terrible I threw it together :-(

Karan laughed out loud, "Oh you silly man!" she grinned with a playfully patronizing pat on his shoulder, "Don't know the first thing about hearty cooking. Real shame, you men don't know what an adventure you're missing. Of course spinach can go in a stew!" she paused to make a disgusted face as she continued, "Now, boiled by itself, it is a dish I wouldn't serve to my enemies, 'though some strange people seem to think it tastes great with... vinegar, eeewww," eyes brightening again she finished with a flourish, "But put it with some beef, or chicken, carrots, taters and the magical plants of the botanical world known as spices, you can make a meal the king himself would be amazed at! Which I did in fact, once. Although I didn't know he was king until after he proposed to me on account of my fine stew." she added the fib in good fun, to see if she could get a rise or a smile out of him.
