Sammy was in great spirits. His fingertips seemed to hold his excitement and his grin was barely held in, with a solemn frown replacing the smile that wanted to break out. Sammy's footsteps seemed quite loud on the deck of the ship as he marched towards the Navigators room. Any pirate that dared look at him would think that he was on a mission, that someone was in trouble with him or the captain. This wasn’t the case, but he certainly made it look like it. If he seemed like he was mad at Roland, maybe they wouldn’t suspect that he was about to suggest that they go a pub crawl together. The others would certainly want to come along and he didn't want that at all. Tonight was just going to be about him and his good mate Roland getting drunk and spending all of their hard-earned money. He knew the captain had some crazy idea for their next journey and he was pumped, but he also wanted to bid farewell to Cendra City.
Sam shook his head at himself as if to clear his thoughts and rapped his knuckles on Roland’s door. Before he got a response he opened the door. "Good evening Roland! The time has come to drink good alcohol and flirt with wedded women. Our first destination: Geralds Inn." he was joking of course, but he closed the door behind him quietly. He knew it depended on Roland's mood whether Sammy would have to spend time trying to convince him to come along. "The Captain has already given us the night off, so what better way to spend it?" He would admit that Brigham hadn't exactly been the easiest man on earth to convince, but he had told the captain that no one needed either of them when the ship was anchored. The captain was on the ship and all of the supplies were ordered, so the First Mate was not necessarily needed and the navigator was useless when they had their next adventure mapped out already.
Sammy's expression was hopeful as he gazed at Roland. "You coming?"

Roland was supremely bored. He had already worked out where they were going on their next venture and had since retired to his room. However, he was not nearly tired enough to go to sleep, and was instead laying in bed with his head propped on his arms, staring at the ceiling. He was about to get up and get some food from the kitchens belowdeck, when he heard a knock on his door. He opened his mouth to speak but the door opened and revealed the first mate, Sammy. Roland grinned at his friend; the two had joined the ship around the same time and had since grown fond of one another. As Sammy spoke, Roland grinned. "You got the captain to let us off, I guess?" he asked with a teasing smile. He sat up and scratched his chin. "Oh, well, I don't know... I'm kind of slammed with work..." He clearly wasn't; otherwise, he wouldn't be lazing about. Roland's face resolved into a grin and he laughed. "Of course I'll go with you, ye lout. Let me just get ready." Within a few seconds, Roland had gathered his money in a coinpurse and clothed himself in something more decent. Then, he turned to his friend, gesturing. "Lead the way." Sammy Thayer

Sammy's grin seemed to get impossibly larger, even as his friend pretended to be busy. He knew what the answer was going to be in the end, and he also knew how sarcastic Roland was. "Of course. Slammed with work. That's why you have to come drinking with me," he answered, throwing his head back to laugh. He turned on a dime as soon as Roland asked him to lead the way, "Aye aye cap'in." He opened the door, strolling out, not even bothering to cover the smile on his face. Now that they were leaving, no one would bother them...he hoped. He glanced back at his friend, walking towards the dock. "Aren't you supposed to be the navigator? You're supposed to know where everything is,” he teased quietly, his eyes sparkling with amusement. He was a pirate but he honestly couldn’t remember the last time he had gone out on the town and drank himself silly. He knew he would regret it in the morning but what was the fun in being sober on the last night in town?
He quickly walked across the board the separated the ship and the dock, jumping down to the more stable wood. “Gerald’s Inn should be only a block or two away, straight and to the right,” Sammy told the other pirate, reaching down to press at the hidden pocket where he hid his gold, silver, and copper. It paid well to be pirate, and he appreciated that. Even if he wasn’t as wealthy as he would have been in the elf kingdom, he had spent almost as much time on the open seas. He was starting to believe he would never get of seeing the view of just ocean, stretched across the horizon. It seemed to calm even his soul and he couldn't wait to get back onto the ship and sail away. He loved the position of First Mate, but he did kind of miss all the more anonymity of a crew member. At least now that he had known Brigham for so long that he could sort of reason with the captain. He shook himself out of his thoughts, addressing Roland. “Now what are the goals tonight?”
