Appearance:
Warin is tall and rugged with brown hair and green eyes. His looks tend to make people think he's earthy and solid, though if they paid attention his body language would give lie to that. His movements tend to be quite graceful and light despite his size with the occassional sudden, sharp motion if he is startled or distracted. Interspersed are moments of stillness. He has a swimmer's frame with strong shoulders and trim hips. His tanned skin is marked here and there scars, nothing that would be unexpected for someone who spend a good portion of their life in war. To those who know what to look for, it's obvious that he was a soldier for a long time.

In his were form he is a large, sleek black swan. Like all of his species he appears near solid black at rest with a brilliant red beak. Three spots of white run up the top side of his beak from the tip to about halfway up the length. When in flight, his wings show an array of stunning white flight feathers. Though a particularly large example of his species, he could pass for a wild black swan easily for his coloring is nothing peculiar.

Personality:
Warin is passionate. He cares deeply about the world he lives in and the people in it. Highly opinionated and apparently fearless he defies anyone who believes fate rules the world. He rails against the inevitable and works hard to initiate change where he thinks it should happen. There is an air about him that inspired people. He is a brilliant orator though he doesn't always think through what he says before it leaves his mouth. This has gotten him in trouble. A lot. He believes strongly in the sanctity of family but also that family is a -choice-. Perhaps better put, he believes that everything in life is a choice. Loyal to a fault to his friend and relentless in pursuit of his enemies, Warin doesn't really know how to give less than his all. He would work himself to death for something he believed in. These days he has a tendency to try and destroy reputations rather than go after people physically but he still believes in being physically ready in case violence should break out. He is particularly active in voicing his opinion about the human king and his rumored thirst for battle.

History:
Like many, Warin grew up knowing only war. Both his parents were soldiers and he was raised more by non-combatants than by them. Still he liked and admired them, especially his mother who held an officer's position in the company they fought with. They both died in the line of duty, as was expected of soldiers. He followed in their footsteps, eventually gaining an officer's position of his own. Once ordered to set fire to a village who happened to be on the wrong side, he refused. He was made an example of and only managed to escape execution by the loyalty of the soldiers he had led. They left the way open for him to escape though they could not help much further.

A few years later, the war was coming to an end. He did what he could to help the peace treaty along, guarding couriers with important messages and diplomats as they crossed into the realms of their recent enemies. Eventually he tired of the sell-sword work. The land was quiet again. He sought a home and fell in with a group largely composed of other swans. They were highly conservative in their views, something that didn't really bother him on the fringes. But he built friendships, traveled, and tried to educate himself on the politics outside his little bubble of understanding. There he met a mate-bonded couple, man and woman. They became good friends and in time more than friends. He cherished them both deeply, and they him. This relationship did not suit the more conservative clan leadership and they butted heads over it often. Eventually the man died. When the leaders realized that he and the woman intended to continue their relationship they were outraged, believing that she was disgracing the mating bond. Under the threat of them both being turned out and her much older than he, Warin chose to leave. Though it hurt them both, she suffered from failing health and required the safety of the clan.

Through the years Warin has seen many people who have a mating bond- or claim to. He has seen the beautiful relationship that come of it. More often however he has seen the ruin it has brought on previously happy homes, on people who have no reason to care about each other besides a magic bond cherished by their leaders. He has even seen children orphaned because a human woman refused to leave her family when a were claimed mating bond with her. He does not innately believe the mating bond is a bad thing but equally he does not think it is good nor even a proper measure of a relationship's potential.
