Frey moved slowly and quietly to the edge of the lake. The sound of the waterfall crashed into his sensitive ears, disguising any predators that would be around. He bent down to take a sip of the water, his ears pricked for any sound. He knew that his empathy would sense anything before he heard anything, but it was better to be safe than dead. Frey had just begun his journey to the Grand Library in the Aelfmenn Kingdom and had decided to take the river route. He had been there for far too long for his tastes and he believed that it was time for a change. He liked having the access to the water to drink so he didn’t become dehydrated as that made the trip uncomfortable, so he took the rive route despite it being longer than some other trecks. He knew that he would have to bypass Lledrith School for water in a few days but was in no rush to get to the Grand Library. It would still be there if he got there later than planned. It wasn’t like anyone was waiting for him there.
His tail wiggled slightly as he enjoyed the taste of the circulated water, thinking that it was sweeter than the water in Mirthal. Their water was from a well nearby or carried from Mere en Watervalle and Frey reckoned that it tasted like the dirt. After spending so much time in Mirthal, he much prefered the sweet taste of the cold rushing river. The little charms on his antlers were knocked around by the small breeze that brushed passed and he felt serene and at peace. Frey was at home in the forest, with the chirping of the birds and the scurrying sounds of the small animals. There were no predators in his immediate vicinity that could harm him, so he felt himself relax even more. There was no danger that he had to prepare himself for and he just continued to slowly lap at the water. He lifted his head and began to walk upstream to the river. His hooves barely made a sound as he moved, the earth rich with the nutrients it needed, being soft and pliable under his large hooves.
His ears perked up, his connection to the earth picking up that a creature was approaching. He couldn’t tell what it was, but it didn’t feel wrong so he didn’t investigate it further. Frey just continued to walk, his eyes alert for the unknown creature. Just because it wasn’t unnatural didn’t mean that it couldn’t harm him. He sensed the creature before he finally saw it- rather- her. She was a doe, and was a lot smaller than him. Her features were quite different to the usual colouring and he sniffed the air. He blinked in surprise, another breeze picking up his charms and trinkets on his antlers. If his sense of smell was correct, another weredeer was standing in front of him. He stopped where he was as to not frighten her away, his black tail swishing side to side

The rays and breeze of the sun felt good on her speckled coat. Large ears flipped idly on her skull, tail twitching behind her as her head remained lowered. Today she had an inkling for some veggie food and since she didn’t really have money she had to deal with what she found out in wildlife. Having found a patch of clover, she nibbled on it cautiously attempting to feel the world around her. A deer with their head down was incredibly dangerous and though she could spring away at a moment notice it didn’t make her feel all that safe.
Her doe form stood out like a sore thumb. Her coat white with speckles of brown causing her to stand out against her brown and green environment. It was her very form that caused her mother to not even want her leaving her alone in the woods were luckily a colony of rabbit shifters had taken pity on her. Most of them lived in their animal form as it was how their colony survived but she, of course, didn’t mind. So she perhaps had a rabbit mentality in a doe’s body.
Lifting her head when she heard the soft jiggling of charms in the wind, she stared in the direction. It was soft and sweet sounding and almost beckoning. Part of her knew that traps were a big thing here in the woods. Hunters looking for game whether it was the wildlife or a shifter, to them, it didn’t matter. But the sound was soft barely just above hearing level. She stood munching on the clover she had in her mouth before her hooves took on a mind of their own carrying her forward towards the sound. Rushing water was another thing that quickly made its presence known the closer she grew barely just hiding the soft tinkling of the charms. That was when she spotted him.
He was a tall beast with a large headset upon his crown. Her heart pitter patter against her chest cavity as she froze, staring with wide eyes as ears pushed forwards listening. Was this a wild deer? Well, there couldn’t have been anyway since there were these odd charms that hung from his antlers. That must have been what she was hearing. Her wet black nose twitched nervously as she tested the air but she was finding it a little hard to focus on breathing. He was impressive whether he was a werebeast or a wild. ”Hello.” she said entering the others mind with her soft-spoken words. ”You have very lovely charms.” Awkward perhaps but she didn’t claim to be anything else.
Awkward might as well be her middle name. Frey Oisin

Frey curiously looked at her bespeckled coat, wondering why her colouring was so odd but was not rude enough to voice his curiosities. He was still as the doe seemed to almost want to leap away. He sensed her nervousness and was interested in her reaction. Most deer were not frightened by his appearance, rather they were wary and suspicious of him. He sniffed softly, smelling the very soft scent of elves and humans on her and a realisation struck him that she must be a werebeast. That explained her first reaction to him a bit better, even if he didn’t have the whole story.
Frey was not surprised by the soft feminine voice that entered his mind, instead he listened to her greeting and compliment. He sent a gentle wave of warm via the mind link and shook his head a little, so the charms chimed again. “Thank you, they are very important to me. I am glad that others can appreciate them,” Frey replied, taking a very small step forwards, trying his best to appear nonthreatening. He didn’t particularly have a goal in mind, but being friendly with another weredeer would be nice. He internally wondered if she also harboured the ridicule of her parent for the form she took, especially with her colouring as it made her stand out against the forest.
His ears flickered towards the tree nearby, hearing a scurrying and he directed his magic towards it. It alerted him of the playfulness of the two creatures and Frey’s tension eased immediately as he realised it was just two squirrels. He leaned down to scratch an itch on his leg, using his teeth to get at it, a little annoyed at himself for being so jumpy. He always got a little more nervous while in deer form which was ridiculous since he was stronger in this form. He straightened himself up again, realising that he had gone too long without saying anything. “I’m Frey Oisin.”
